"Disappointment is a Wave (Emotion Series) by Lauren Martin is an educational picture book for young children. Disappointment is a common emotion we all feel regularly. Unfortunately, children feel it too. There's no need for concern because Lauren Martin is back with another in her series, this one dealing specifically with disappointment. Like some of Lauren's other books, this one focuses on teaching children that they are in control when it comes to their emotions. They will learn how to see things differently and be provided with the tools they need to combat negative feelings. Don't delay in purchasing this useful book as it will help your child enormously. Disappointment is a Wave (Emotion Series) impressed me from the very first page. It's no secret that I have had the enjoyment of reading some of Lauren Martin's other books, and I can confidently say that with each one I have read, they have only become better. Lauren has a way of grabbing the reader's attention from the moment they see the front cover. As soon as I saw her name, I didn't hesitate in choosing to read it. I always enjoy reading Lauren's work and she has some seriously awesome illustrative skills that children will love and appreciate. I hope that she continues to write these important and entertaining books for children to learn from, and I look forward to reading them." Reviewed by Amy Louise Hill for Readers’ Favorite

Disappointment is a part of life--growing up and living! What a great lesson to learn as a child, and more importantly learn the lesson that disappointment can be a setback or an opportunity. It is all in how one chooses to see it and respond. Well illustrated, the author shows disappointment as a wave. You can allow it to crash and crush you, or you can choose to ride it to new places and new heights. Teaching children that what appears to be negative can be turned into something positive is a lesson that will serve them well throughout life. The author offer exercises that can be repeatedly used.

Ride The Wave

I am fast becoming a fan of Lauren Martin's emotion series. The books talk to the inner child inside all of us that we need to quell and redirect with insight. Positively loving this series.

What a wonderful resource for children and parents!

This simple and beautifully illustrated book explains how we can choose to react in different ways and change our lives for the better even as a child. I loved the simple explanations and examples of how we can choose how we react to disappointment, turning our dismay into something positive to look forward to.
This would be great to read to a five or six year old child.
Fabulous resource for parents and the rest of the series looks great too!

Excellent analogy!

This is a great book to teach kids how to deal with disappointment. It could be read alone or with a parent/teacher who can also explain the pictures and what is happening- why the little girl is disappointed- what can she control? What can she not control? How can she make the best of her situation.

The analogy of disappointment to a wave is a concept that kids will understand. The book is short and to the point and will keep the attention of children.

Great Read for Adults & Kids

I love the way the author showed both sides of different disappointing situations. I can do this ... or I can do that. It reminds me of the question: Do you see the glass half full or the glass half empty?
It's a wonderful reminder for even adults on how we often look at things in a negative way instead of trying to turn out into a positive.

A Great Message

“Disappointment is a Wave” by Lauren Martin uses a great analogy to remind children of a better way to handle situations that don’t please them. Seeing the wave from both perspectives is a smart move, allowing kids to make choices. The illustrations aren’t the best, but the message wins out in this story.

Lesson for kids and their parents

It’s super easy to get caught up in something that is disappointing. I like how the book illustrates how you can turn that disappointment into something positive and maybe learn something new in the process. Great lesson for kids and adults.

basic concept, better illustrations

The illustrations in the book were fun and well done. The story itself is pretty simple and really didn’t keep my child’s attention. Probably not going to be a book that gets a lot of repeat reading.
