Badou's in trouble again. He's found some of the "Lost Children," rare genetic experiments left from the past--but so has the mafia. It's up to Heine to bail him out, but the Stray Dog has his own problems now that the enigmatic Giovanni is back on the scene. Meanwhile, Naoto comes to the Underground searching for the killer who wields the same strange black sword as hers. And so their paths begin to converge in the dark and dangerous heart of the city...
The author of this book is Shirow Miwa. He is Japanese author. I have read manga which mean Japanese comic. The title of book of this comic is " Dogs: Bullets and Carnage". The gender of this book are action, sci- fi and mature because it has violence. I have read before volume zero and it is linked to the volume 1 that I have finished now. This book about one man who has supernatural power. That he can not die what every he done. The government of his country did some non-inhumanely projects on the people bodies. Those people who done on them this project called " Lost children".The main characters on this manga is Haine. Also there is some of his friends Naoto, Badou and Nill. All of them are also " Lost children. Having supernatural power. In this volume most part was that Haine wanted to rescue his frind Nill from gangs. She has a special wings on her back.
A young teen recommended this title to me, while we both grieved the loss of Border's-especially our local one had great manga selections. So I thought I would try it. Just been in a manga mood-since I found a site that you can read manga on for free-also anime. I really wanting an Ipad or nook color now. There is a series I read on-line, I just have to have for its art "Bride's stories". Written by the person that created "Emma". It is is such a travel book to another culture and time. It is a must own!
I will admit that I had no clue this was a mature mangaka meant for adults only.
I bought it and read it anyways. 🤩
Really interesting story, gave me cool sci-fi vibes and futuristic mafia feelings, can't wait to read the next one.
I was a little confused about many things, but that's usually normal for the first volume of a new mangaka series, so I'm highly anticipating some good answers in the sequel.
I hate to bring up The Promised Neverland (since I'm not a fan of it), but this gave me nostalgia of it, maybe 'cause of how Heine was a test subject?
MEGA Matrix vibes. Maybe cooler.
Also, why did I have to find out that there was an entire mangaka series based before this that I have to read??? 😤 God.
As much as I would like to own the rest of these, the content within is too graphic to have just lying around my house, and I already have too many other books that I'm currently hiding, so...
THE CHARACTERS- W O W
I am officially impressed! (takes out iPad to start drawing them right away) 😁😁😁
Bought this one because it looked interesting and because I remember reading positive reviews about it somewhere. Main focus is on action. The action part is bit overwhelming. The plot and background info are given like tiny bread crumbs. I have read 2 volumes and I still have no idea how anything works here. All I know is that people are living underground with many gangs present and the main characters are looking for the level below it, each of their own personal reason. Nothing about the governing body, although we are shown 2 policemen(who don't really do much considering how many gun fights happen every few pages) and a passing mention of lazy bureaucrats. It does have few tropes that I find annoying in a manga. Overall it was okay. Not that exciting but interesting enough to make me continue reading.
Very action-packed, interesting story although not really developped (which is usual for a manga's first volume), love the graphics, and will definitely buy the next volume.
Dogs is a pretty solid, mature, action series full of intense, stylized fight scenes. The story is set in a city divided into the upper world, and the underground where the city's misfits and "monsters" gather. The characters we follow are those who have struggled to survive; they are victims of the violence and perversity of this place, who have become monsters in their own right. Heine, a test subject carrying a spine of Cerberus, and Naoto, a woman raised in the way of the sword after her parents brutal murder, are the central figures. Both have secrets hidden to their pasts, and it is their thirst to know that ultimately provides the hook for the plot. Twists and a twisted game between the rulers of the upper and lower world will sate the thirst for a good thriller. As a side note, volume zero can be read at any point. It is only a standalone that fleshes out the characters.
I think the drawing were cool and some of the fight scenes well executed and clear but the story felt too basic for me: the bad guy, Giovanny, with the 2 girls (childish) twins were so cliche and the storyline of some of them being experimented on when they were younger feel a bit overused. The 3 main characters didn’t have that much personality either: the “funny” careless one, the one who is haunted by his past because he can turn into a monster and a girl, sword master, who’s looking for revenge.. It was still a fun read but I am not sure I am interested enough to continue with it.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Great premise and decent characters, my only qualm woth this book is the amount of action. I dont say this often, but i feel like it had too much action, and it was honestly just confusing trying to make out what was happening each panel. Additionally, i do feel that reading Volume 0 is important before reading Volume 1, as it fleshes out the characters more and gives some back story. I read V. 1 first and i definitely regret it as i had basically no idea what was happening the entire time. Interesting story though, fun to read.
Great character design. All the characters look really cool and all are quite memorable.
At the same time, this reminds me a lot of Black Cat. From the dialogue, to the action. (Almost if someone wanted to make Black Cat a little more gritty.)
While these are both good things to note, the way the exposition is handled doesn't really keep me interested in the world and the way the plot has developed doesn't keep me interested in the characters.
So I got this book over a year ago from a library book sale and the concept is interesting, but the execution didn’t land for me. There was too many moving parts, almost too MUCH action, and I didn’t really feel any connection to these characters. Since this is such an older series as well, I don’t feel like tracking down the other volumes, so I don’t see myself reading the later volumes (or apparently the prequel volume which is the ACTUAL start of the series. Which would explain some of my confusion, I assume).
Dogs: Bullets & Carnage, Volume 1 This was a perfect read during Halloween night. I've wanted to read this series for many many years but always waited until I'd get to the recommended age range to read it. The wait was totally worth it.Wonderful graphics, engaging, energetic story line, and a blend of some fantasy elements with an intense cyberpunk-mafia atmosphere, this was awesome. And the title and idea of the dog in the spine is by far one of the most original things I've come across in an action manga. Totally loved it, and can't wait to see what happens next.
Dogs was a really good book with lots of action, like it's predecessor, it did get a little explicit at times, it still has a good story line. What i liked was that, as usual, the lazy guy who just wanted to sleep/drink got really good when he was mad, and though there wasn't any bombs, it still had all of the blood, guns, swords and stuff.
A good dose of horror, this manga is good though a bit slow but the characters are crazy loose canons living in a post apocalictic city running away from terrifying past and some cases running to find those monsters that kill their parents. Pretty good story, sometimes it suffers from poor execution but its mostly because Miwa is a newcomer to the manga scene. Really good characters.
Mroczna i brutalna. Klimat gangów, podziemia i barku skrupułów. Świat i państwa właściwie nie istnieją. Gwałtowa i interesująca, a przedewszytkim jest dla mnie świetną odskocznią, bo jest totalnie inna niż to co ostatnio czytałam.
apparently I bought this volume w/ vol. 0. Too bad thatthe short story I thought was weak is the main story focus. I won't continue the series. Not enough of story & character appeal for me to continue or probably even keep.
action gets a bit dull tbh but naoto's storyline continues to hold my interest. probably haine and badou's would too if the volume put a little more time into their stories as opposed to their fight scenes. 3 stars
