In the first episode of the anime, they made jokes about the 'differences in media', discussing how the light novel is different to the anime. So, purely out of curiousity, I decided to read the first volume. Having only seen the first episode of the anime, it's hard to say which is funnier. Although, the light novel is, without a doubt, hilarious. I did wonder how well pure comedy would do in a light novel and now I'm convinced that it can be great. With such animated and ridiculous characters that bounce off each other so well, it's hilarious throughout. There's barely a moment taken seriously, and I mean that in the best way possible. The dialogue has so much flow and energy and is by far the book's greatest strength. The straight man, funny man dynamic is the bread and butter of the comedy and works so well no matter how many times it's used. Now, the light novel doesn't have many volumes translated, so I'm going to go back to the anime. But I'm glad to have read the first volume and it'll be interesting to further observe the 'differences in media'.

After re-reading:
Just as funny as I remembered it. I re-read this volume because a) I don't think volume 2 has an official translation and b) I'm writing something shamelessly similar so I wanted to study the comedy. Honestly, I still don't really understand what makes it so funny and the characters so likable. But there were a few things I learned here and there that I'll use myself. Also, it's just really funny and enjoyable---so there's that.

Oh. I forgot to mention---this is actually the first book I've re-read. That's pretty cool.
