Fabulous book. One of my all time favourites and have just found an e book to replace the tattered copy I had sadly lost!

Tennis is the topic, but values are the subjects of this book. A fictionalized account of composite characters who moved world class tennis from shamateur to professional sport. Great for those of us who knew something about the names of the people who actually brought about the transition.
The values are pure black and white, but the characters have a rich mixture of strengths and weaknesses. Dedication, loyalty, self discipline, friendship, sportsmanship, prudence, work, respect--these values lead to success in life--according to this book. The details are dated, and the work is didactic; but everyone knows real people who embody the good and bad life lessons captured in this novel. Old fashioned, but fun.
