A Secret Baby Paranormal Romance

Mav disappeared before I could ever tell him about the child I carried. I’ve had years to get over him, and I’ve tried. But the second I see him again my heart lurches and it’s like all that time evaporates. I still burn for him, even though I know it’s a bad idea.

I try to remind myself about the bad things: his possessiveness, his quick temper...but he’s different now. More mature. Protective. Settled. And hiding something.

Something bigger than the child we share…

The story revolves around alpha dragons who are discovering their fated mates, which have traditionally been human females. However, humans are unaware of the dragons' existence and do not feel a bond with them. Thus, dragons can only reveal themselves if they are certain that the woman is the one their fate intended for them.

As these women learn about the new world around them and what it means to be fated, the narrative becomes rich with tension. Each woman also grapples with her own personal challenges, and the dragons will do anything to keep their mates safe.

Emotions run high as the characters confront their circumstances, navigating conflicting feelings of fear, hope, and longing. The presence of strong alpha males adds another layer of complexity to the story.

Amid these challenges, there is an undercurrent of playful interactions. Overall, the narrative is a captivating blend of love, action, and adventure that keeps readers engaged from beginning to end.

So I mostly read paranormal reverse harem and omegaverse books, okay it's really like 98% of my reading. However, between Roxie's book covers, the titles, and descriptions I got curious and I do read some MF so why not? Her Dragon Daddy is the second book I've read by Roxie and I really enjoyed the paranormal second chance romance that has things like complicated histories, divorces, and children, it's different from what I normally read and now I'm hooked.

Ava is a single mother who will do anything for her two children, the bond she has with them is so sweet and the kids are the best and one of them is a teenager, shocking. Not only is she a good mom she's also a very forgiving person, more than most in her situation and she's open enough to possibilities for the future.

It seems that Maverick has always been a good person, circumstances and bad decisions kept them apart but his determination to win her back was strong. He was also adorable with the kids, even when one of them didn't belong to him by blood. Maverick didn't learn from his past and made another bad decision but things worked out.

The plot wasn't super complicated, it was a feel-good read with characters I liked, a little drama, strong family ties, and dragons. I like when a shifter's human and animal forms have separate personalities and readers get their perspective of the animal as well. If done right usually the animal is sassy and funny and that was Maverick's dragon, Zephyr, for sure. I loved hearing from Zeph and I found the little details about the dragon shifters in this book interesting, and slightly different than what I'm used to.

Her Dragon Daddy was a great read it had a strong sense of family, complicated dynamics, steam, and even a little excitement that I enjoyed. Her Dragon Daddy is the first book in the Dragons of Black Claw and from the ending, I have a feeling I know the characters that the second book will be focused on and I will be most definitely checking it out.

Get a Better Editor

So this is a book that is made up of several smaller stories they are supposed to build on one another as the book goes on each of the stories is cute and a little trophy but overall in general a good read. My biggest issue is the lack of continuity between one story and the next and serious lack of editing. Examples are in the first two stories two individuals are linked by one being uncle and one being the nephew later stories their cousins. During written conversation at the beginning of the conversation it's between these two individuals later in the conversation it seems to have switched to being between two other individuals and then switches back. There are details in earlier stories that are contradicted in later stories. It's just really ridiculous and very frustrating. So if you can get past all of those things totally read.

Duuuude, what?! This fucking book...THIS FUCKING BOOK!! I absolutely loved this. Because of the title, cover and everything I was expecting a bunch of hot dragon fucking, spice at every corner and needing a cold shower afterwards. What I got instead was one of the best heartfelt, sweet stories I've read in awhile. Like holy shit balls. And there is spice and the spice be spicing!! You get romance, epic love, pulls at the heartstrings, and an epic fight/battle. Just read this book. It's worth it.

I got the paperback for my bookshelf and will display it with pride. I fucking loved this book.

"...they wouldn’t have abandoned me without cause."

Ava has always believed there must have been a good reason why Maverick and his family disappeared... but their suddenly reappearing in her life doesn't mean she's forgotten eighteen years of being left behind.

Maverick's entire life changed one night. He'd love to say he made one bad decision, but it's more a case of he forgot to decide, to think, to stay in control, and it cost him everything. Now he's got a second chance and he's going to do everything he can think of to get it right.

This kindle unlimited quick read is the first book in a series, introducing a Dragon Clan, a small town, interesting characters, and a way of life where family is meaningful, and important. Where those bonds offer strength, and help with burdens we traditionally think we carry alone. This story delves into family by blood, chosen families, and how we can be adopted into families, whether we realize it or not.

Ava and Mav's Story . . .

Maverick Kingston (“Mav”) disappeared without knowing that Ava just discovered she was pregnant with his child. Mav was an alpha dragon shifter who had trouble sometimes controlling his temper and had put a kid in the hospital during a fight. The family moved away overnight, and Mav didn’t look for her later since he figured she had moved on with her life.

Now 18 years later, Ava runs into Mav in the grocery store. She had moved back to town recently with her son and daughter after her divorce. Mav’s family had moved back a few years ago, but she hadn’t known that. The moment her son walked up to her in the grocery store and saw the man who looked exactly like him, they knew who each other had to be – but said nothing. That evening at dinner, Ava told them they would move if this was too awkward.

Throughout the story line, the strong sense of love and family could easily be felt. This time, Mav (and his dragon, Zephyr) knew that Ava was his fated mate and he would have to convince her that she could love and trust him. And there were additional “complications”. Ava was human and had not known Mav was a dragon shifter. And soon, their son would need to deal with his own shift and needed his father to teach him about being a dragon. Would Ava, Maddox, and Hailey be ready for this revelation? Would there be a HEA for the family? Or was it too late to forget the past?

six books in one and the stories overlap

This is the story of the Kingston clan in Black Claw Colorado. Maverick is the Alpha. James the sheriff and father to Maverick,Alex, and Jury. All are dragon shifters and in the PD. Ava and Mavericks story are second chance romance with Maddox a teenager when Maverick finds out he’s a father.Alex is the older brother but he’s not the alpha and his romance is with Charlotte, Ava’s best friend. During the first book we meet Steffen a rouge dragon looking for a home who ultimately gets adopted by the Kingston. His romance is with Harley who during her book discovers who she really is and meets a half sister Abby. Abby becomes involved with Jury the youngest son of James. Jury has special talents. Maddox grows up in the course of the story and falls for Bethany a friend of Abby’s. Bethany rents houses and flips houses with her friend Kara. Rico is an Arizona cousin who needs to find himself and mature under the tutelage of the Black Claw Kingston clan. In the process he meets Kara. Everyone is related and their stories continue even in the next book. It’s a fun read just to see the romances bloom and the crisis they go through to all their happy endings. It’s cute, endearing, and fun. All the dragons are sensitive, caring and respectful, loyal and protective. And some of the dragons are downright cute.

Mav & Ava dated when they were younger. But then Mav's mood's started to change and his family left town suddenly. Not long after, Ava found out she was pregnant. She stayed in town hoping that Mav would return, but when years pass and he doesn't she ends up moving away and getting married.
Years later she returns to town after getting a divorce with her 2 kids in tow, but doesn't realise that Mav and his family have moved back until she bumps into him in the local store. Mav didn't know that Ava was pregnant when he left, but its not hard to recognise that her oldest child is his son, as they look exactly the same.
However, what Mav never told Ava before is that he is a dragon shifter, which was the reason he left years ago. He was having trouble controlling his dragon and had to leave to deal it. Now he knows he has to say something because its likely his son will be a shifter too. How will Ava react to this new discovery, will she be able to forgive Mav for leaving her before and will she give their relationship a second chance.

This is a shifter romance, second chance at love story. I enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it.

Ava is a human woman that had her heart broken by the only man she truly loved at an early age. She was pregnant with his child when she found out that he and his family had packed up overnight and left without her ever getting the chance to tell him. Maverick is a dragonshifter alpha. When he was younger, he struggled to control his anger. His family packed up and left, leaving behind the only woman he ever loved. Convinced that Ava had moved on, Maverick never looked for her, but when she moved back to town with her children, he knew she was his fated mate. When Maverick came face to face with his son, and the woman he loved, nothing will stop him from claiming his family, not even a revenge full shifter.
I loved this second chance story. Ava and Maverick are fated mates, but he still had to show her he was serious about being around. I liked Maverick's parents, they're very supportive and loving and so was his brothers. There's plenty of drama, danger and steam in this book.

DNF @50% - This reads like a Wattpad story and someone said “ohh you should publish this”…

Everything is too easy for these characters. There’s zero conflict. No one has a personality, except the 8yo daughter and the personality is cringe.

One would think with the title “Her Dragon Daddy” this would be a rather dark pnr. Dragon Daddy brings to mind something in the realm of kink — nope not even close.

The secret baby trope lasts for three chapters. Maverick runs into them at the grocery store - omg you look just like me!! Spineless Ava — yep he’s your son… oh sorry son this is your dad”

The steam isn’t written well. It’s rather mild for a paranormal romance which the sub genre usually includes pretty explicit sex scenes.

I don’t care if the back half of the book somehow becomes amazing, with better writing, some kind of show versus having the story told to the reader.

The only reason I read this book was that it was a buddy read. I didn’t pick the book but I gave it a chance. I didn’t like it.

not just one book

Before I review I’m just going to say that this is the second book I’ve attempted to read by this author and have found a theme.
She is advertising one book and then stuffing them with several. You don’t know that until you get into the books.
Personally I am not a fan of this at all. I like to keep track of the books I read and these type of books throw me off.
Both times I’ve tried to read her I haven’t gone past the first book in either stories.

As far as the book goes, this one is okay. I’m not sure I’m a fan of this author. I want a real alpha type hero and these all fall flat to me. I also wish there was more of a relationship shown between the hero and the heroines daughter. All we get is a couple times he says he loves her, but no interaction between the two.
Also sometimes the wording makes it seem like the daughter is just tolerated.
That bothered me. I just wish there was more to these stories. I always feel as if something is missing.

The stories themselves are great. I love that there is no overly drawn out drama between the couple, as well as in the different outside scenarios. The problem I’m having is the discrepancies between the books themselves and in some ways, the lack of continuity in a single book itself.
Examples: girl woke up hungover but remembered drunk dialling her sister only to not know who she drunk dialled 2 paragraphs later.
Guy received college acceptance letter and kept it in his drawer until he knew what he wanted to do but a couple chapters later, it says he only just received it, and digitally at that.
A characters back story included a friend that was killed by a drunk driver, but the next book says he was speeding and went through a guardrail.
There are so so many things like that. Most, if any, don’t actually matter enough to make a difference in the story but, it still takes away from the enjoyment of reading.
I’m hesitant to read more books from this author due to this.

Mav and Ava were together when they were younger, but he disappeared without a word. Ava moved on and now years later she has moved back to town with her son and daughter. When she stops at a store she runs into Mav, and he sees her son. Its not lost on either of them who they are to one another. Mav left before because he couldn't control his dragon and he never told Ava about him being a shifter. However, now that he saw his son everything has changed and needed to talk to her and it was going to have to be soon. Will this be a second chance for them?

This is a great story that will draw you in from beginning to end. This is a well written and very entertaining story. Its a book that any book lover would enjoy.

A Confusing Guilty Read

This book had me a bit confused. To start with, it's actually a complete series of 6 books and the title really doesn't fit any but the first book (& even then they could do better). I thought books 1 & 6 were the best written and plotted, with book 2 almost making to the top. Book 3, 4, & 5 were just okay and all had a few parts that if it had been single stories, I would have probably stopped reading the series. They felt rushed, the dialog was a bit painful, and the more steamy scenes read awkwardly. However, I did read the entire collection and didn't completely hate it. If shifter romances are your thing, maybe you'll enjoy it. This is the second thing I've read by Roxie Ray and I'm not sure if I'll continue exploring their work.

Does this dragon daddy deserve a second chance?

5 star excellence from start to finish. The storyline and plot for Ava & Maverick held my attention from the 1st line to the last line. If you are a lover of dragon shifter romance then let me recommend Her Dragon Daddy. The attraction between Ava & Maverick is still evident after all these years but is she willing to risk her heart again? This dragon wants to claim his mate but is going to have to work hard to gain her trust. Can these two let go of the past for a chance at a HEA or will some rogues destroy it all?
Another fantastic Roxie Ray read.

Really great second chance story between Ava and Maverick. Ava's heart broke when Maverick and his family moved overnight. She had his child and never heard from Maverick again. When her marriage failed she moves back to her late grandmother's house. She finds out that Maverick moved back as well. She's always loved Maverick so what's going to happen when he comes face to face with his son? There is some suspense, action, danger, secrets, drama, excitement and steam. Will Maverick be able to win Ava's heart again? Can 18 years of hurt be forgiven? Read and check it out.

Ava (h) moves back to Black Claw with her son, Maddox, and daughter, Hailey, after her divorce from Hailey's father. She's surprised to find that Maverick, her high school sweetheart and Maddox's father, has also returned to Black Claw. Maverick, a dragon shifter, is shocked to find that he has a son, Maddox, and that Ava is his fated mated. Maverick and Ava have to get through their past as they try to navigate to an HEA, even as they try to build new family relationships and face challenges. Lovely dragon shifter, second chance, secret baby romance.

Overall, it was a good story

I enjoyed reading this series. It’s 6 books in one, but I feel that the authors should have spent more time proofreading their stories because there were quite a few errors. Not only spelling or grammatical, but continuity as well. One example, the last chapter of the book when the Grampa was officiating, he said as the leader of the Maverick clan. They weren’t the Maverick clan. This was the Kingston clan, and Maverick was the alpha of the Black Claw Kingston clan.

Ok I just can't try and read anymore of these books I just got into book 4 two pages and already it's so damn messed up calling the son of one of the main characters in book one as the brother of his dad and two uncles. I'm sorry I'm not trying to be mean but when ever one of the books in this series has words missing or making the son the cousin, or brother to his dad and uncles plus having him going into a bar when he isn't 21 and buying beer I just can't keep trying to read these. Please get someone who will proof read your work before the rest of us try to read them.

The perfect pair
What a fantastic second chance romance! The author took me completely by surprise when these two reunited. Their connection was so strong that it practically leaped from the pages. I loved the characters! From the youngest to the oldest, they were understanding and supportive of each other. That’s not to say there wasn’t any strife, but that just made it all the sweeter. I enjoyed the hint of danger and the way they would let nothing keep them from saving the ones they loved. I can’t wait to see what happens in book two.

A Bit Too Corny For My Tastes.😕🤦🏻‍♀️🐲
Her Dragon Daddy: Black Claw Dragons, Book 1
By: Roxie Ray
Audiobook 🎧
Narrated by: Phoenix McKay
Length: 6 hrs and 38 mins
(Read Using Kindle Unlimited)

I found this 'new to me' narrator to be a gem.💎 She had great inflexion, emotion, and a wide range of voices.⭐️👏

Overall, this story was a bit predictable and corny for me, and I found the writing style a little blocky. It was still a reasonably enjoyable 6+ hours spent reading and listening when i was in a lot of pain and couldn't sleep, so thank you, Roxie Ray.🙏🏼💕

Good

I really enjoyed this 6 book in one series. I love the small town the author created and all the different characters. Each story had slight differences that kept it interesting. The only downer for me was how intensely the main femal character was about women empowerment. They were sometimes just straight up verbally abusive to there mates and the men were always cowering to it. It got frustrating at times. Over all an amazing book.

Kingston Clan for the Win

Loved all 6 of the stories included in this series. The book covers 6 different couples, coming together and weathering difficulties and falling in love. The head of the family, patriarch James and matriarch Carla, as well as the different grandchildren were interwoven to to create a rich sense of family and family devotion. The writers provided a continuous flow from one story to the next. I highly recommend this book.

It's an easy read at just over 200 pages. I enjoyed the premise and small town setting. It lacked the anst I think people would relate to if a 17 year old had been left to fend for herself when pregnant. I know the idea was that Ava was forgiving, but she was a little too forgiving, in my opinion, especially when Mav backed away a second time.
Still is more a 3.5 Stars for me and I like the family vibe.

I enjoyed everything about this book : the characters, the back story, the romance, the passion, the HEA. I liked the way the shifters are described and how they need each other to feel better and be stronger. It’s a second chance for love between mates but also between a father and son.

I did not expect my emotions to be so engaged! Ava is a strong, self-sufficient woman who loves one man and his family even though they broke her heart. The way Maverick honors her family throughout everything is touching, and when Hailey asks if she'll get grandparents, too...bring on the waterworks! These are characters this reader wishes she knew IRL, and the storyline is so satisfying!
