Hunter Greene had big plans for his senior year of high school. Graduate with a higher GPA than his twin sister, Em, get into college with his girlfriend, Abi, and build a future away from his small town. Everything was laid out perfectly. All he needed to do was to survive one more year of classes and teachers, but when the authorities arrive at Hunter’s home asking about Abi’s whereabouts the day after a fight with her father, something doesn’t feel right.
They say everything’s fine. They’re sure she’ll return in a few days after blowing off some steam, but she's has never been one to up and disappear without a word. After days go by with calls and texts going unanswered, Hunter is informed that she's been deemed a runaway and the search is coming to an end.
Deciding it’s time to take matters into his own hands, Hunter enlists Em and Abi's younger sister, Maddi, to help figure out what happened. However, nothing could’ve prepared them for the twists and turns they find along the way. With the discovery of secret meetings and hidden notes, Hunter and his friends find themselves in a race against the clock to bring Abi home safely.
From its opening line, we are pulled into the mysterious disappearance of Abi and the frantic search her boyfriend, Hunter, undertakes to find her... hopefully alive. Bates's writing seems effortless, and they keep you enthralled in the story, turning every page to discover what happened to Abi. I look forward to reading future installments in this new series.
I read it in less than a day. Couldn't put it down (actually got mad at my husband for interrupting) Plenty of twists and turns. Great characters and a story that rocked me. Writing this from the floor in my husband office just reeling over this book. Anyway 10/10 would recommend
The only thing wrong with this book is I wanted it to be longer so I could keep reading. It's a cozy mystery with an interesting cast you love and root for. They are teens who think and act like teenagers. The prose is minimalist and immersive and I can't wait to read more from Bates.
This book felt like a timeless mystery of whodunit. It was short enough to consistently keep you on the edge of your seat but in-depth enough to really connect you to the main characters. The final twist definitely ripped my heart out in the best way. I highly recommend for anyone looking for a quick read with a great storyline and great characters. I can’t wait to see more from this author!
