Born and raised in the Southeast, award-winning author Patrice Michelle gave up her financial calculator for a keyboard and never looked back. Thanks to an open-minded family who taught her that life isn't as black and white as we're conditioned to believe, she pens her novels with the belief that various shades of gray are a lot more interesting. She's a natural with a point-and-shoot camera, likes to fiddle with graphic design and, to the relief of her family, strums her guitar to an audience of one.

Well, that's the condensed, back-of-the-book bio about moi, anyway. :o)

As for becoming a writer...I wasn't one of those writers scribbling stories as soon as I could write, but I was a voracious reader. At the age of fifteen, I told my mom after I'd finished reading a book, "One day, I want to be the one who writes the kind of books readers think about long after they've closed it."

As Patrice Michelle, I write dark, sexy, action-packed paranormal and contemporary romances.

As P.T. Michelle, I write dark paranormal YA books. My first P.T. Michelle book is coming in July: BRIGHTEST KIND OF DARKNESS.

Hmmm. Read this one while also reading one of Ward's BDB books. Bad decision, as this one suffered greatly by comparison. Ward does the whole vamp world much better; more descriptive, more character depth, and more convincing. The best part WOULD have been the dream sequences where the hero was really "servicing" the heroine in her sleep, but even those scenes paled in comparison to V's and Jane's in the OTHER story I'm reading. Another problem for me - the length; a scant 170 pages in fairly big print. Cost? $9.99! (Although I didn't buy it, I feel for the person who did!) This would have been far more appropriate in an anthology with a couple of other, stronger authors of PN romantica, and THEN it might have been worth 10 dollars! I suppose it would be a good book for a newbie to the genre to give them a brief glimpse at the possibilities. If you're a Ward fan, particularly, you'll be disappointed. And bored.

(This book has been given to me by the author to review it)

“A Taste For Passion” is the first book in the Kendrian Vampires series by Patrice Michelle and I have to say that it’s a powerful start! Fast-paced and erotic as hell, this book knows how to arouse the senses!

The story is about Rana, a young woman who recently lost her beloved grandfather and Lucian, a vampire who has lost his mate many years ago and now he’s expecting her reincarnation. One day Rana bought a ring which belonged to his dead mate and he now he believes that he found again his mate. But the truth is that he found something more. The true love!

Rana is an amazing character! She is a good person and through the story she had to deal with a lot! Her grief over the death of her grandfather made her gone wild for a while and then when Lucian made his appearance she realized that she needs to feel more carefree. It seems that she had a lonely life, because after the life with her abusive father, she didn’t really trust anyone except her grandfather.

The vampire on every woman’s dreams?? That’s Lucian! He is sexy as hell, very protective, smart and successful! But what I liked the most? Although it seems at the beginning that he will believe that his dead mate is now Rana, that’s not the case! He knows from the start the Rana is another person and he loves her for that. He had to deal with many things also. Lucian isn’t just a vampire, he is the one who will be the leader of all the vampires and some of the vampires aren’t very comfortable with the idea and they are dangerous. But he knows how to deal with them and how to protect what he loves the most!

A very good romance story, very well-written, fast-paced and with amazing characters! I totally recommend this book!

Short. Quick. Sexy.

A very entertaining and hot quick read. Lucian was a sweet guy, though his alpha dominant side did come out at times to persuade Rana - the sweet, innocent and naive yet headstrong girl. Their chemistry was enticing and very arousing for the readers.

Extremely enjoyable light read! There's nothing better than reading hot sex starring a hot alpha vampire and a sweet beautiful human woman!

Racked with grief over her grandfathers death, the last thing Rana wants is a relationship. Lucian has been waiting over 70 years for the reincarnation of his last love to be born again. It just so happens that person is Rana...

Enjoyable and quite entertaining read with interesting characters.
Not quite a fan of Rana as I felt she could have been more honest with Luc in what was happening but I can understand how strange it would have sounded.
Read through KU but I had read these years ago.

This was ok. The writing didn’t flow particularly well but I was engaged enough to keep going. It was also quite cheesy at times. I won’t be continuing with the series.

I had a difficult time continuing to read this book. I kept getting bored and wandering off.

For some reason, even though the premise would indicate a story that I'd like, the execution fell short. Part of it was due to details that made me stop and blink, jolting me out of involvement in the story.

There are quite a few sex scenes, but I didn't find them all that compelling, probobly because I had dificulty connecting with the characters.

At any rate, two stars are as much as I can muster for this one, even after the revision.

Lucian has waited decades for the reincarnation of his beloved Elizabeth to appear. And just when the desolate vampire was about to give up hope, he meets Rana. He is drawn to her right away, but her identity is confirmed as his lost love when she makes a connection to the spelled ring that once belonged to Elizabeth.

Rana is mourning the death of her grandfather and fears at first that her attraction to Lucian is really just a way to fill the emotional void in her life. But every night when she closes her eyes, Lucian is there to fulfill her desires. And that makes it harder and harder to resist him in the flesh.

In the meantime, Lucian has decided to take his place as the vampire leader. But his nemesis Kraid wants the position for himself and plans to gain it at any cost --including going through Rana. Kraid's actions have serious consequences that I can't get into without spoiling the story. But I will say that for their severity, the repercussions were laid out too quickly and without enough explanation for me. It's never made clear who or what is responsible for mitigating the fallout and, later, why and how the rules were able to change.

I felt like we had to take a lot of the book at face value and that the story did not have a chance to be terribly deep. While some scenes were rich with detail (mostly the steamy ones,) it just seemed like some elements were addressed too superficially. The book was closer to novella sized than a full length novel and maybe that had something to do with it.

I did enjoy the romance, though. The sex is hot and because of the reincarnation element, the quick attachment between Lucian and Rana didn't bother me. I also liked that the story featured a smattering of well developed secondary characters, which we'll see more of in future installments of the series.

Overall, it was a short and sexy read, but one I may have enjoyed more with a little more fleshing out. 3 stars.

I really liked this but i just wanted more all around from it
Heroine:I liked her well enough she didnt do any tstl stuff or any other obnoxious things. I wouldve liked to see her be a little less tragic though and a little more tough. Her grief over losing her father was fine and an important plot point but the other stuff that she just did "woe is me" over for half the book got a little old
Hero:he got so close to perfect. But right as i was thinking how he had hit the perfect balance between dominant and domineering he crossed the line. It wasnt bad enough or big enough to make me hate his character but it did make me like him a little less. He was really sweet for the most part with the heroine though and i loved those scenes. I really wanted to see more development of his background though just to understand him a bit better.
Romance: the couple was great together and I wouldnt say the relationship quite developed too fast, but i would say that the romance could have greatly benefited from more development
Sex scenes: very well done and incredibly sensual...i do think though the dream scenes were better than the actual sex scenes.
Plot: Nothing very unique but interesting nonetheless. Again though it needed more development to be great. It felt like everything just happened too fast to be totally enjoyable.
Writing: Overall quite good I didnt notice any errors or bad writing. Again though I wanted more. More mythology, more background, more development.
Bottom line: I really enjoyed this and will definitely be checking out the next book in the series but it read more like a full length book that was cut short than a novella (or whatever you call something of this length). Definitely recommend though

Read in the "Love's First Bite" anthology

A Taste for Passion by Patrice Michelle - 3 Stars
Rana is mourning the death of her beloved grandfather. She finds a ring in an antique store that intrigues her and seems to emit a fragrance only she can smell.
Lucien, a vamipire has pined for his lost fiancé who died 80 years ago, before he could convert her. The ring was designed to find his mate should she ever be reincarnated.
Once Lucien finds Rana he begins to slowly seduce her and she is completely attracted to him, still unaware of what he is.

Lucien is seriously sexy and hot, and the love scenes were smoking.

Rana frustrated me sometimes with her inconsistency, she was so back and forth about her feelings for Luc sometimes even within the same paragraph. Example: When she finds out Luc is a vampire she's hurt and angry but it never really gets discussed and is brushed under the carpet. Also, (without being too spoilerish) when something major happens in the story a new character appears, she just believes everything he tells her without batting an eye and later she never says anything about it to Luc except a vague reference in passing.

Still and all, I really liked the story and would read more from this author.

Loved it!! Great story, kept my full attention at all times. I cound't put it down.
I love how, I wouldn't necessarily say how they meet, but I love how their relationship comes to fruition. I love stories that have the element of magic and mystery of past lives and how two people will eventually find each other if they are destined to be together. I love Rana!! I love her character, her interests everything about her. And Lucien, mmmmmm he is absolutely deliciuos! Love his determination to get the woman he loves, and what he will do keep her his and safe. The story is really well written and the descrition of events and characters is really great. This is a great start for a series and I cannot wait to read more.

This one was frustrating in that it had all the right ingredients but they just weren't arranged in the dish to make it exciting. All three stars are for the erotic elements. Ms. Michelle knows how to deliver a sex scene with a punch. The story potential didn't quite get there for me HOWEVER I plan to read the next one because I think the potential might show up. Ms. Michelle has some skills so I am going to assume there were execution problems in this first book. What can I say, hope floats.

BTW, this is pretty much paranormal romance not UF or Fantasy Romance.

I read this book a long time ago, when Ellora's Cave published it. I went back to read it again because I'd enjoyed it so much. I love how the hero in this book is such a romantic. He's waiting for the return of his love and is willing to give the heroine time to get to know him. He's lost love once. He has no intention of losing it again. If you like heroes who have no trouble expressing their feelings, then you'll enjoy this book.

Another Great Story

I enjoyed reading this book. The story line moved at a nice paste. The girl and the guy are both very likable. The guy is really sweet and completely smitten but the girl is not as easily swayed. I read the series out of order but I don’t think it really made a difference. I wish there were more.

An early book I think!

I have read the Mister Black trilogy by this author. After enjoying those books I searched for more, and arrived at this book. I enjoy vampire romance but I think this may have been an early attempt at writing for this author, as it was a struggle for me to persevere to the end.

Cheap download for the Nook. Not bad, not great, but I wouldn't mind reading more, some of the background characters intrigued me and I would like to learn more about them. Felt a more like an old school romance novel, sweet love story.

When Patrice first wrote the story, she had a poll on a website asking what the title should be. I suggested A TASTE FOR PASSION, and it stuck!

Very good, sensual, romance. You will not be dissapointed in Patrice's writing. And keep a lookout for a young, troubled girl named Trish!!

I liked it, but felt it was lacking somehow. Things were just so rushed. BUT, I did enjoy the idea of the story and the characters all have potential. I'll look into the next book though. Mainly to see how she'll deal with her bookshop now that she's not herself anymore.

Sad that Lucian & Rana's story couldnt be the size of a full novel, but Im feeling they will be "dominant" characters in the series.

I really enjoyed Rana and Lucian's story. I love how Patrice Michelle portrayed her version of vampirism. I liked the powers Lucien had. They were fun.
