GENRE - FICTION / KIDS CLASSIC / DRAMA.

Mark Twain has been one of those writer's whose work I always wanted to read and finally I did get a chance to do so! I wasn't left disappointed 😃

About the Book :-

The book is about Tom Canty who lives in poverty and of Edward Tudor who were born on the same day and shared similar features.
One fine day fate brings about a meeting between the ragged boy and the splendid prince, the 2 boys decided to change their attire for a few minutes of fun not knowing that their fate would would cast them out into each other's world what follows since is a spree of events which entertains you to the fullest!!!

A higly recommended read specially for kids as the book shares a great message as it ends.....🙂

This was a really great and quick read. I wish I had read this when I was younger, I would have gotten a lot out of it. The story reminded me a lot of Oliver Twist and David Copperfield by Charles Dickens. This is a great classic and is a great read for kids because it has a great message. I love that everything is resolved at the end and everyone gets what they deserve.

The Prince and the Pauper is a classic tale that follows the life of two identical boys born in to very different lives. Tom is born a pauper, while Edward is born a Prince and future Kind of England. By chance Tom finds himself in the Palace talking with Prince Edward, Edward suggest it would be fun to swap clothes, after swapping clothes know one believe Edward when he claims to be the true prince, consequently, he finds himself alone, cold and wandering the dark streets of London. Suddenly Toms father finds him and drags him back to their dirty, cold, uncomfortable home. Weeks pass and both boys are miserable, each feeling lonely and isolated in their new worlds. On Coronation day the real Prince Edward storms the ceremony and demands to be made King, both Tom and Edward are relieved and happy to resume their rightful roles. The real Prince Edward is crowned King of England and rescues Tom, his siblings and mother from their miserable life of poverty and invites them all to live with him in the Palace.

The story raises some serious issues, such as poverty and violence towards children. The father is noted to beat his children regularly. As violence is a sensitive issues, the teacher would have to know the background of their students before reading the story to them, so as not to distress any of the children.

I have read this text to a year one class as part of fiction week, the lexis would be too complex for independent reading. Whilst reading I did have to stop and explain a number of words such as “coronation” and “banquet”. The text has proved popular in drama lessons. As a class we did hot seating for the first time, exploring the different characters the Prince and the Pauper. As part of our drama lesson we also worked on improvisation exploring how a Prince and Pauper might walk.

There was a poor boy and a prince who switched places. The prince goes on adventures with a servant. The poor boy (now acting as prince) is making up laws and not thinking about the prince. The prince doesn't know the poor boy is impersonating him.

I liked the book because it is fun to imagine switching places with someone. I like that they were helping each other. It is fun to see how much things changed for them. The poor boy is used to picking up his shoes, but the servant did that for him. He doesn't know where stuff is and he doesn't know what he is supposed to do, so people think he is sick. The rich boy had everything done for him and is used to telling people what to do, so people think he is crazy.

Another highly enjoyable GIC book. As with all of the books in this series, it's a great way to introduce young readers to classic literature. Some of the playfulness and humor of Twain's prose is lost in adaptation, but my 8 year old son absolutely loved it.

This book is about a boy named Tom who is poor that was borned at the same of the future king of England prince Edward the poor boy wanted to meet the prince so he went to the palace and saw the prince in the castle but when he touched the gate the guards pulled him away and started to laugh. But then the king opened the gate and let Tom in. He saw Tom he was terrified. Edward asked Tom were he was from they talked while eating. Tom said I am poor and if I don' get money I can't have dinner and my sisters have to get ready by them selves. Edward was terrified even more. But then the prince said that he wanted to feel Toms life so then Edward became Tom and Tom became Edward. They looked similar they were twins. But when Edward went back home he wanted to regret his words. He was being hit it was madness. Mean in the palace Tom was having a nice time he had servants every were. “I am now king,” Edward said quietly. He looked at the cheering crowd around him. “I am now King Edward. Isn’t it strange that no one can see me?”

The story follows two young boy, Tom Canty and Prince Edward who lived a greatly contrast life. One is a poor, insignificant kid that no one pays attention to, and one is a soon-to-be King of England who held the future of people in his little hand. Unbeknownst to anyone, both of them desired each other's life.

This is a heartwarming tale with a deep message, as it tells social issues through the eyes of innocent boys whom never imagined that there are any other way of living a life apart from their own. There are so many things that a reader, not limited to young ones, could learn from this story. At the end of the book, you will feel glad and pleased with how the story unfold and maybe, just maybe, you'll feel some kind of gratitude that you have long forgotten. It's a pleasant reading experience and I definitely will read this to my future children (haha).

Sometimes, people can overlook facts and details when it means that they can see only what they percieve as rational. For example, when the prince and the pauper switch, people overlook details that would prove, when looked over, that they switched. people overlooked these facts because they needed to keep a rational train of thought. At the end, where everything returns to normal whan the king interrrupts the innauguration day parade, only then do people come back to oddities they had made theirself not notice.

Another excellent adaptation for kids. Ms. Bogart kept the important points from the original tale and presented them without having to talk down to kids or the parents who read the book to their kids.

If you have never read one the GIC books, you really should. They are a great way to bring the classics to kids and there are always a few on the shelves at your favorite used book store to try out first if you aren't sure about them.

Find them for your sons, daughter, nieces and nephews! Buy them! Read them!

I really liked this book and how it shows two perspectives. I think this benefited them both a lot and King Edward was really about to be a better king for his people and that Tom helped him get to that point and continue to get there.

Una lectura muy fácil de llevar ( la use para practicar mi inglés) en lo personal encontré la historia muy entretenida y bastante distinta a adaptaciones cinematográficas que he visto. Lo recomiendo.

Not Twain's finest, but not bad either. Full of great language, imaginative scenes, and apparently (based on the footnotes) chock-full of actual history.

It is a classic masterpiece
If I were in Tom's shoes(the pauper) I would have the real prince beheaded so that I could seize the throne with that much wealth and power

I remember this edition back in high school and now I decided to collect this even secondhand ones. It can be read in one sitting and it is a great start for more readings.

The story is definitely classic - relatable and intense with a touch of reality. I learned in the book that rulers can make wiser decisions if they experience, if not, understand the grassroots’ circumstance and perspective- the word is empathy. More so, it pays to be kind because one can reap its fruits at the right time, at the right moments.

I also love the story of friendship here - Edward Tutor w/ Tom Canty and Edward Tutor w/ Miles Hendon. At first, I was a bit skeptical with the former because Tom Canty might enjoy so much of the royalty; the latter I wish I have a friend like Miles Hendon - understanding and protective. In the end, the author was able to wrap it well and every character got what they deserve.

I am beginning to really like Mark Twain's writings. He just has such a way with words and is a good story teller. It says it's for young readers but I would not recommend this for too young of a reader. It has a lot of big, uncommon words, speaks of things most kids might not understand and has a few short scenes involving some violence - beatings, women burned at the stake, abuse, attempted murder. The author doesn't go into detail, just mentions these incidents, but they do play an important part in the story. All in all, I found it to be a good read with a good moral to the story & would recommend it!

I liked this book. It was fun, cool and quick. Since it is in a Specially Adapted Version of The Prince and The Pauper by the amazing Mark Twain (i have not read the original) it felt like it was missing stuff and not to mention its was short book with Pictures! Anyways the characters were cool and fun. The ending was satisfying and i always like a short book. and especially stories about how the past used to be

The book talks about a prince and a pauper that changed places because they looked alike and they changed clothes. The prince got taken care of by Miles Hendon in a wood cabin. The pauper was disguised as a prince. In the end the prince promised the pauper to be treated better. I like the book because there are some mysteries involved in the book.

Lincoln was not a fan of this book at all and didn’t want to hear it most nights at bedtime. He gave it a big thumbs down and zero stars because he found it boring.

Parker thought it was alright and gave it 3.5 stars though. He enjoyed it in the beginning but didn’t like how it got violent as the book went on.

Oh how I enjoyed this one in my youth. Who doesn't dream of becoming royalty? Though this story has much harshness and sadness in it, I think it was good. Sweet even, the naivety of these two young boys and their adventures in each others places.
