The She-Devil With A Sword has battled barbaians, scuffled with sorcerers, and mangled magical creatures of all sizes. But when a collective of superheroes from THE PROJECT enter her world, will Sonja know how to adjust to their foreign ways, before they all kill each other?
...and be sure to pick up the parallel story, VAMPIRELLA: THE DARK POWERS!
Red Sonja meets up with Dynamite's version of a super team. I'd never seen any of them before and it seemed very much like a generic Superfriends. I could be very wrong and this might be my introduction to my favorite team of all time. Who knows? For now, I'm not terribly impressed.
The gist is that this group of super pals run across Big Red and end up taking her up to their space station to see if she can be recruited as the newest member of their team. I should mention that they are tasked with policing Dynamite's version of the multiverse. I forget what they call their multiverse, but that's what it is. There's a crossover with my girl Vampirella that doesn't make much sense outside of two heroes fighting each other. I mean, that's a reason...right? Right.
Honestly, the tipping point was that Sonja's translator (or whatever) make her sound dumb. She sounded like a caveman. Sonja angry. Sonja not understand. Sonja like food. Ugh. Knock it off. I'm probably not going to read more of this but never say never. If this gets good, someone let me know.
A bit of a generic story about Red Sonja joining the Dynamite’s superpowers team. It’s a few issues of her getting acquainted with the team and then she fights Vampirella for some reason.
A fun take on the multiverse concept with our very own favourite chainmail bikini wearing sword-swinging she-devil getting caught up in the exploits of an ersatz Justice League and, eventually, even tangling with the equally scantily clad Vampirella. Fun times!
Very practical attire for saving all of existence, I am assured.
I know absolutely nothing about Project Superpowers except the ad I have seen and I'm not too sure if I want Sonja joining them, but still, this made a good and fun reading. But then again, Abnett is a good storyteller. The art is a bit rough around the edges, but that works too.
I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. It was an interesting concept of taking Red Sonja out of her element. Into the multiverse I am interested to see what happens next in in parallel.
Sonja has taken a job to kill a wizard. She has taken the mark of a witch. However what happens when heroes of the multiverse turn up with "technology" that is greater then any magic Sonja has ever imagined.
This is brutal brawn over brains book. I do like how Sonja is truly authentic to herself and everyone else will just have get used to it. This book runs in parallel with a Vampirella book of the same series. The book finishes with a variant cover gallery.
This is a fun, but not super impactful multiverse story featuring Red Sonja. The book follows "Vampirella: The Dark Powers Collection" and provides much needed background explaining Red Sonja's introduction in that work. There are some good sequences in which the technologically advanced superheroes who recruit Sonja for there multiversal superhero team get taken down a few pegs by the Redheaded barbarian. However, besides showing that Sonja is nowhere as weak and feral as her recruiters would believe there is not a lot to this story and the promised team up with Vampirella is underpowered and cut shot by by an abrupt ending.
More two-and-a-half star after its open ending leading into another crossover. Abnett's a capable enough writer to keep the action flowing, let the characters stand out amongst each other because of personality traits rather than costume design, and adds in the adorable touch of having Sonja speak broken English (he's not the first, but so far the best to do it).
Thus concludes my voyage through my Humble Bundle of Red Sonja!
I've read several Red Sonja books and enjoyed them. Not really familiar with the Superpowers but this was absolutely a fun ride. Sonja's cursing is poetic and the bad words flow plentiful (although they are *mostly* covered/obscured. Final installment in this pairs her off against Vampirella so it definitely left me wanting more of the storyline. *Downloaded via Hoopla's Bonus Reads in May*
What a nice modern reintroduction into some Golden Age comic book heroes! A culture clash ensues as Sonja encounters visitors from another world and begrudgingly works with them to save her world from an evil sorcerer.
A fun but flawed red sonja and project superpowers crossover comic, also Vampirella shows up at the end for some reason!
Not sure what the ending of its about seems like its leading into another story-line or something, but this still a fun romp of a comic book crossover!
An effective and compelling placement of a fantasy figure into a superhero structure. I would still recommend What If #13 or Marvel Team-Up #79 as the definitive fantasy into modern day examples, this was excellent and worth the time of even the most casual of fans of either genre.
A fun story about Red Sonja joining a group of super heroes to help them fight off evil. Her interactions with her teammates are very entertaining. The art style is very well done and the dialogue is quite funny.
