Highlighted by a host of film stills and photographs, this entertaining overview of the great movie thrillers offers detailed descriptions, synopses, and critical analyses of one hundred of the most exciting films of all time, including North by Northwest, Silence of the Lambs, Rosemary's Baby, Rear Window, and Marathon Man. Original.
The master of suspense, Alfred Hitchcock said, "A bomb is under the table, and it explodes: That is surprise. There is a bomb under the tale but it does not explode. That is suspense". And that is what we have here. The 100 books listed in this book don't involve monsters, aliens, etc. which are the meat of the horror film. Instead the author has chosen films that in most cases do keep you on the edge of your seat.
Although this reader wondered why some were included and some omitted, one has to remember that this is the opinion of the author whose choices these were. And for the most part, he hit the nail on the head. The films are not addressed chronologically but are based on the authors love of the films.
Each film contains the cast, credits, the plot (which has spoilers), the film, trivia, and other recommended films which would be good viewing and are similar to the film discussed. His first choice is The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari and runs the gamut from Marathon Man, Se7en, Cat People to Frenzy, The Spiral Staircase, Blood Simple. A great list and a fun read. Recommended for the film lover. BTW, guess what his favorite thriller is........the cover photo should give you a clue.
