Timothy Paul Jones is an American evangelical scholar known for his work in apologetics and family ministry. He serves as the C. Edwin Gheens Professor of Christian Family Ministry at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Jones has authored influential texts defending the historical reliability of the New Testament and has promoted a model of “family-equipping ministry,” which balances family discipleship with age-specific church programs. His apologetics have evolved from evidential to presuppositional approaches, emphasizing the role of the church’s moral witness and care for the marginalized. He has been recognized for books such as Misquoting Truth, How We Got the Bible, and In Church as It Is in Heaven, the latter promoting multiethnic church communities. Jones is a member of the Evangelical Theological Society and has been praised as a leading voice in engaging both secular critics and intra-faith debates. He and his wife Rayann have four adopted children.
This book was quite humorous, and pretty good for a broad overview of Christianity throughout the past centuries. This will definitely whet your appetite on church history! I’m excited to dive deeper in some of the historical things and people that were apparent and mentioned in this book. If you have 0 church history or Christian history knowledge, I would advise you to read this. Very easy read and pretty short.
Excellent book on the history of Christianity. I really enjoyed reading this well written, well researched book. I have other books on Christian history that are not as enjoyable to read, but Timothy Paul Jones wrote this in such a way that it is easy to read and understand. I borrowed this book from my church library, but I liked it so much I bought myself a copy
Not a bad book, but somewhat simplistic. If Christian history were the content of a magazine for teens, it’d be this book. The personal anecdotes and modern analogies are of putting. Still, has some helpful charts and timelines.
If you’re looking for an exhaustive treatment of Christian history, this is not the book you want. But if you’re looking for a readable introduction to the topic I feel this is an excellent choice. Or as J.I. Packer says on the cover, “Here you have a beautifully simple, beginner-friendly telling of Christian history, a precious heritage.”
This book seriously helped me to build a greater foundational understanding of where my faith comes from, who has influenced it, and has started my interest in apologetic thought!
This is a good concise introduction to Church History, from the time of the Apostles to modern times. It could be called "Christian History Oversimplified", but that's a good thing as the author accomplished his goal of writing to the average reader. The book is written by an evangelical, but does a fair job of presenting issues from Catholic history, and is respectful in it's tone throughout the book. Easily readable at 188 pages. I highly recommend to anyone wanting a basic knowledge of the history of Christianity.
A great book for anyone who wants an easy to read history of Christianity. It was recommended by my Pastor and it was extremely eye-opening and full of knowledge. A great way to start investigating the history.
