When the monster that a small boy and girl have drawn on a wall comes suddenly alive and pursues them, it is a race to get back to the wall to erase the troublesome monster.
John Wellington "Jack" Kent (1920 – 1985) was an American cartoonist and prolific author-illustrator of children's books. He is perhaps best known as the creator of the comic strip King Aroo. In addition to his own books, he illustrated more than twenty books by other authors.
The Scribble Monster, by Jack Kent, is a book of illustrations. The story is that two children are passing a white wall, with a sign(the only words in the book) saying "no graffiti." This prompts them of course to immediately write with red marker on the clean walls. They make some stick figures and a dog and a cat, before making what looks to be a monster. As they are walking away, the monster takes after them and chases them until their other drawings come to life and help them. This tell children a couple of things, for example, it could be a positive message, that their artwork can come to life and support the arts. And it also tells students to listen to the rules, such as, no graffiti, and to follow them or the consequences may be severe(such as being chased by a monster!). They eventually erase the monster, and since the sign says no graffiti, they erase their other drawings as well. This book can help kids to understand rules while also being a fun way to explain them!
