Amazing Aussie Dogs

Rate this book
Some say Australia was built on the sheep’s back, but it’s just as true to say our nation was built in the dog kennel – after all, it was the dogs that were rounding up the sheep.
Australians love their dogs – we’re home to more than 4 million pet pooches – and they love us right back. These are the stories of some of our most remarkable canine companions, embodying the spirit of hard work, mateship and larrikinism.
Dogs like DJ the border collie, who survived for days after falling into floodwater near Lismore. Kimmy the kelpie, who sold for a record-breaking amount at a working-dog auction. Basil the Rottweiler, who defied the misconceptions about his breed and saved a drowning child. And Lexi the Jack Russell terrier, who learned to ‘drive’ a ute through the paddocks on her farm.
Our faithful four-legged friends save us from peril, inspire works of art and offer unwavering loyalty. In Amazing Aussie Dogs, Laura Greaves brings to life these inspirational true stories of our homegrown heroes.

LOVED IT!

Dogs are simply a gift we do not deserve. In this book, there are fourteen canines that are all amazing for one reason or another like Frankie the German Shepherd who walked 4000 kilometres to help his owner recover from a drug addiction.

I found the history of the kelpie dog in this book rather interesting and informative as well as the history of the town of Caserton in southwest Victoria. The first dog to be called a kelpie was born on Warrock Station, just north of Caserton in 1872. Her parents were two collie-like sheepdogs descendants of dogs brought to Australia from Britain in the early parts of the the nineteenth century.

I LOVED reading all of these stories, but the one that truly broke my heart was Grover the Border Collie. Aussie author Laura Greaves has once again written a beautiful book of wonderful dog stories including interesting history. Highly recommended.

Very well written and beautifully told. Stories about dogs will always be uplifting because I am a dog lover. This one is happy and sad, making me cry many times. I recently lost my constant companion Banjo who was such a special dog. I miss him so much. I will get another dog but it's going to take a long time to get over him. There will never be another dog quite like him

I listened to the audiobook which is narrated by the author and loved every minute. Perfect road trip book as it’s broken into multiple stories about different amazing Aussie dogs, as the title suggests. Just make sure you pack some tissues!

Dogs are amazing. The wide and varied amazing dog stories shared in this book each touched my heart. They had me nodding at behaviours that rung true in my own dogs and shedding tears as stories of loss reminded me of my own goodbye stories.

As always I really enjoyed reading another dog book by Laura Greaves. The stories shared make me happy and sad (and bring tears) but always because there are amazing dogs and wonderful people out there who love and appreciate them.
