I've had this coffee table book for a long time and finally decided to read it. I am glad I did because it has a bunch of detailed information, interesting archival images, and engaging narration about the war. My rating here has more to do with my disappointment in the proofreading job, as misspelled words and typos take away from the professionalism and credibility of this book.

A very informative book about the Civil War. It certainly includes stuff that is not in an average high school American History book, so I think it would definitely be a good addition to any high school student's library for studying the Civil War. It was sad reading about Abraham Lincoln's assassination, even though I have read several different accounts about it. Definitely check out The Haunting of America if you want to learn about some VERY spooky things that happened before Lincoln's assassination. Nevertheless, he had definitely been warned not to go to the theater that night, but Lincoln refused to live in fear. The man got death threats every day but he feared no man. That is probably why he fared so well as Commander in Chief during the Civil War, though as we later learn he was removed from the post of General in Chief. The book includes Lincoln's famous Gettysburg Address and some interesting pictures from the battlefields. In one picture, it looks like there is a ghost! Interesting how there were two presidents at the same time during this time in history. I am glad I read this book. I learned more about the Civil War than what was covered in high school!
