First off, i would like to start by saying that i have read and listened to quite a lot of information concerning economics, finance and business over the last few years. So, it is no surprise that this book would be added to that list but the big surprise is that the Principles of Economics by Peter Navarro is by far the most comprehensive and easy to absorb books that i have worked my way through.

I first started down the path of reading and listening to books and other forms of podcasting when I was going to embark upon my honors which never eventuated but did leave me with the understanding that there was a large gap in my knowledge of the social sciences. This book has well and truly stepped into that diminishing void and supplied me with the knowledge i need.

Navarro's delivery is smooth and clean and helps take the audio book to a level that is compelling and not necessarily a burden to listen to even though it is academically orientated and focused. Each chapter is broken down into sections of content which is introduced by a narrator and at the end he mentions exercises which can be completed - obviously i did not do this while driving to work in the car or while i was bottling homebrew.

Throughout the book Navarro, as expected from an academic, builds a scaffold of knowledge and capability into the book with case studies and examples which highlight the importance of the lecture and contextualises the knowledge that has been disseminated in the chapter. Some of these case studies are dated and are now very historical but are easily understood and with a little digging allows the reader to see the repercussions that Professor Navarro so astutely points out and the discusses in depth.

For me personally, the information concerning how businesses whether large or small are able to sustain themselves with a better knowledge of economic principles was an important jump because it was the first time i had moved my interest from the macro to the micro and hadn't felt tempted to skim over the top. I did have a chuckle to myself when he mentions that a lot of management that come from non-economic backgrounds struggle in business leadership roles even though they have science or engineering degrees. I have seen this a lot over the years, and it is good to see that it is a common problem and not directly and or specifically a mining management problem.

Peter Navarro has produced a fantastic audio book explaining economics to the everyday person such as myself and i look forward to reading more of his material as i move forward in my reading, research and economic evolution.

A very good overview. But that is what it is and the maximum that it could be. After all, covering macro and micro economics in seven hours is quite a high level overview,. Nevertheless, it is a good summary and starting point.
