"Mom, I need your help. Please call—" That's it. The call cuts off in midsentence. No static. Nothing.

Just an overwhelming silence.

Long Island single mom Jane Hartley is frantic when her sixteen-year-old daughter, Kelly, a survivor of childhood leukemia, disappears from her bedroom one night. To Jane's frustration, the police believe that Kelly ran off willingly with her boyfriend, Seth. Unaware that her daughter even had a boyfriend, Jane soon discovers that Seth is no boy. He is an adult—a man who, after meeting Kelly on the Internet, took the teenager on one thrill-seeking ride after another. From motorcycles to skydiving, Jane's little girl has been hiding some dangerous secrets.

Like mother, like daughter.

Adamant that Kelly is not a runaway but, rather, is being held against her will, Jane hires ex-FBI agent Randall Shane to follow the trail of her missing child. But every step brings them closer to a cold-blooded predator lurking in the shadows… coiled around Jane's shameful secret…waiting to strike.

Can you trust your own daughter?

Jane is a single mom to her 16 year old daughter. They have an open relationship. At least it's what she thinks... But one day when Jane is stuck in the traffic she sees a guy on a motorbike drive by with a girl and that girl looks very familiar. To her horror she realizes it's her own daughter, Kelly. Jane gets disappointed and worried 'cause her daughter has never told her anything about that guy. Her daughter survived cancer as a kid and that's why Jane thinks it's her right to know everything about her daughter and have an open relationship. Later the same evening Jane tries to talk with her daughter to find out who Kelly got a ride with. But instead Kelly stays in her room and the morning after the bedroom is empty. Kelly is gone. After a short and disturbing call from her daughter, Jane is sure that Kelly is in trouble. But who will believe her when the police only thinks she has run away with her boyfriend? But luckily a former FBI -agent, Randall Shane, believes her and together they try their best to find Kelly.

This is a thriller I've never heard of before but when I discovered the cover it made me really curious. The cover is pretty cool! And I hope the inside of the covers would be a cool read as well. But that was a bummer. The author is a man but to me the writing style sounds very femaleish (it's probably not even a word but I hope you know what I mean...). The book felt like a part of it was a journal and sometime wasn't. Kind of like a mix. And the book also gave this chick lit atmosphere that I'm not a fan of.

The plot itself wasn't very original either. I've read many similar stories before and it's easy to figure out what's gonna happen but I did like Randall Shane a lot. A big and warm guy who really cares about other people. I just wish he ended up in a better story than this one.

Trapped is a relaxing "thriller" to get through. I missed the intensity and the surprises that never showed up. And in big parts of the book it was very slow paced. But it's an okay read if you don't want anything advanced. I'll probably gonna read more books by Chris Jordan even though I'm not impressed but it's not gonna happen right away.

When Jane Hartley’s daughter Kelly, a leukemia survivor goes missing from her bedroom, Jane is frantic.
Kelly takes off in a plane with her new boyfriend, Seth.
But things aren’t what they seem and an ex-FBI cop is Jane’s only hope to find her daughter and Seth who apparently have been kidnapped when landing in Florida’s airport.
This was a great intense book of survival.

The point of a thriller is to, well, thrill. And this one doesn't really. Sold as a bit of a Harlan Coben story, where a girl goes missing and the more we read, the more gets peeled away. Or not in this case.

16 year old goes missing and frantic mother brings in an ex-FBI investigator to help her. She seems to be mixed up with a bunch of dodgy Native Americans. Can thet find her in time? etc etc.

Utterly underwhelming with no clever plot twists or reveals. You keep waiting for something clever to happen and blow you away, but this is very much a what you see is what you get novel. And you don't get nearly as much as you would hope to.

This is the second book in the Randall Shane series. I actually liked this better than the first book (Torn). It was easy to read and the characters were described very well so that you could empathise with them.

I confess. I only got 25 pages into this before I decided that the writing was so bad that I had no interest in finding out where the plot was going.

There was a lot of world building in this book and seen setting there were a lot of points where I wish I would’ve just gotten to the gist of the story but it felt like we were going around in circles and there was a lot of repetition or a lot of detail which of course I do enjoy seeing the picture in my head is clearly as possible however there were some details that were sold to the point that I think it was just too much for me to focus on all at once and I think that some people would enjoy this thoroughly especially if they like to know every single detail of every single moment and seen in the book but for me at the time I would would’ve just like to get to the point of the story because I did enjoy the plot of the book and the storyline of the book it was just a lot of information to take in all at once.

It was pretty much what I thought it would be - Jane was a teenage mom whose daughter survived childhood leukemia and is now a 16 years old and keeping some dangerous secrets from her. Kelly ends up disappearing and a phone call saying that she is in trouble sends Jane to a retired FBI agent, Shane, who helps find missing kids. It felt very improbable when it's revealed that Shane can't sleep when he's on a case (he's been studied for it, so it's legit - note, my eyes rolling here). I would like to note that after he explains this to her, he does ends up sleeping. The bad guy was kind of improbable and I'm not sure how designations are made for new tribes of Native Americans, but I'm guessing it's not that easy. I also felt like Shane and Jane wanted to get together, but they never did.

Kinda long, boring, took forever to get to the main event. I skipped many pages to see the final result. I won’t be sharing this book with my friends

I think I've come to the conclusion that I'm not a great fan of American (or any other nationality) 'thriller' novels which I would class this. It was ok. It was an enjoyable story but I want more from a book than that. I want to finish a book left thinking about the story, the atmosphere, the characters. To me this was the equivalent of an action movie which aren't my favourite types of films. There were some police, FBI, baddies, goodies, guns, explosions all in the space of a few days.

It was partly told from the point of view of the mother as if she was talking casually to the reader so there were lots of sentences that started with "Heck, I..." or "Whatever,..." or "Ok, so..." as if she was having a conversation with us but I don't like chit chat and would rather have more substance.

I did like the elements surrounding the Native American reserve and the Everglades.

This was an ok book....It looks interesting from the cover though as that is what grabbed my attn first. The book was only ok though - alot of extra things inclded that I didnt feel were necessary to the story line and only drew out the ending more. I have his other book "Taken" and will read that as well.... but not anything to stay up later reading and certainly took me much longer then I thought it would to finish....

I really like this story! I really liked listening to it! I like how the story was read by two people. A woman and a man.

My first time hearing about the main character Randall Shane. A guy I would not mind meeting if I he was real. Mr. Shane helps a desperate mother find her missing 16 year old daughter. The police do not seem to care about the mother so her only hope is Shane.

A lot of twists and turns but everything works out.

This was a quick-read thriller. For some reason the author thought it would be a good idea to give every male character a name that started with an R….Randall, Roy, Ricky ugh.

I did like the setting of the Florida swamps, for something different. It wasn’t terrible, about what you’d expect from this type of genre - that is the pages were easily turned. I don’t think there was anything shocking that readers of thrillers haven’t read before in this one.

3 / 5 🌟

Fairly interesting plot. Mom's angst over missing girl sometimes becomes boring, but the Mom character is more restrained than in many novels, so not too bad. Mom helps search for girl with former FBI agent. However, Mom generally follows his advice and doesn't blaze around him thinking she knows better than everyone else, which I like. I'd read another by author.

This is the usual thriller book that you can buy at Wallgreens for $3. I liked this book because it's an easy read when I can't sleep at night. I have 3 pages left! Read it if you want cheezy-ness in your life!

I would actually give this 3 and a half stars, as I found it compelling, even though the story was far fetched. I found the Florida stuff very intersting - just a quick vacation type read - worth it, I thought.

This book starts out with the really interesting plot: a girl and a guy have been kidnapped for reasons unknown. The hunt has lots of twists and turns. But without revealing the end, for me the story fizzled out. Tbe ending was blah and what had seemed to be important is actually not.
