Een hoeveelheid namen van mensen, goden, halfgoden, steden en streken zodanig dat je er duizelig van wordt. Het aantal moorden, valstrikken, wraakneming is minstens zo imposant. Niet helemaal mijn straatje.
Kort samengevat: na een oorlog van jaren brengt het Paard van Troje in het laatste hoofdstuk de ommekeer en daardoor de overwinning voor de Grieken op Ilios.

Enerzijds erg leuk, heel toegankelijk opgeschreven, vlot leesbaar met een beetje humor. Anderzijds een wirwar van namen, ik werd er gek van! Driekwart gelezen, geen zin meer in, heb nog zoveel liggen wat ik wil lezen.

Great adaptation of the story of the Trojan War. The biggest focus of course on the Iliad, but it also tells us of the fall of Troy and the death of Achilles. The adaptation is made for children (12-14+?), but is very amusing to read for grown-ups. I encountered this book somewhere when I was 13, and it was a good introduction to the myths of the Trojan war. Enough about that.... on to the story!

What you won't expect... the story is told from Ares' point of view. He guides you through the many events, complete with witty/sarcastic comments on actions of the main prota-/antagonists. That's quite an original take on the story. Of course there's also the usual quarreling gods, discussing/fighting over the fate of their beloved mortals.
Also in this book there's no clear preference of the author for either side, though obviously Ares' story-telling makes it a bit more pro-Trojan than pro-Achaea.

This adaptation is really amusing and good to keep up your mythical knowledge. You'll be surprised how accurate some passages are to the original. Definitely job well done by Imme Dros!
If you don't feel like reading the entire Iliad by Homer, give this one a go and you probably won't be disappointed :)

Ik had de originele Ilias al in het Grieks gelezen op school en dan valt deze - toch wat kinderlijke - uitvoering wat tegen.

Veel leuker dan het andere deel. Beter geschreven. Ik heb het in één dag gelezen. Schrijfstijl is een beetje dramatisch en moet er aan wennen. Leuk verteld!
