I’ve been a writer for over 15 years now, but it wasn’t planned!
I had a variety of jobs, including secretary, trainee buyer at Harrods, dental nurse, production assistant in a reprographic and printing company and various others.
I began to write after joining a creative writing class. I had no success with article writing, or short stories, or fiction, but the first children’s story I wrote, for a magazine called Twinkle, was accepted for publication. Hooray!!!
Things snowballed and a lot (yes lots and lots) of hard work later I now write full time and have over 50 books published. I still go to the same writing class and we have become a big happy family of writers!
For me, writing is the best job ever. I couldn’t imagine myself doing anything else. I love to create worlds for young children to enjoy and escape into – whether the stories are educational, bedtime, problem solving or just plain good fun. It’s also very exciting to see the first picture roughs, as my wonderful, talented illustrators bring the text to life.
I live on the Essex coast in a lovely two-bed-roomed flat, which I share with my husband, Michael. At long last I have an office to write in, with room for all my books and bits of scribbled on papers.
The seafront is (still) just around the corner, and I find a bracing walk (it gets freezing when the East wind blows from the North Sea!) or gentle stroll when the weather is warmer, is great for clearing my head and mulling over story ideas.
This is a good book because young kids can still relate to it. The duckling is exploring the world and seeing all of his friends, but at the end of the day still goes with his mom. Also, this book incorporates rhyming, so it is a good one for introducing poetry to children.
A sweet little story about a little duck’s daily adventures with its mum and friends. We have the board book version and it’s currently a permanent fixture on the pillow next to my 2.5 year old when he has his lunchtime nap.
A Cuddle for Little Duck by Claire Freedman is about a little duckling who explores her world during the day. She then gets ready for bedtime and cuddles with her mother.
My son and I chose this book for my niece who will be three at the end of this month. This book was purchased at my son's school at the Scholastic Book Fair. Since my son started school, I had made it a tradition to buy for him and my nieces at the book fair--to pass on the love of books.
My son and I thought the book was very cute because it shows similarities of the duckling enjoying her environment like my niece. This is going to be a birthday present.

My Review: This was a cute little story about Duck's busy day. He is clearly exhausted by the end and needs a good cuddle with momma duck. The rhymes of the story are soothing and the illustrations are simple. It is a great bedtime story for little ones.
This book has beautiful pictures and my duck-loving one-year-old loves it. It is also one of the longest books he will sit through.
I'm not a huge fan of rhyming texts. This isn't as bad as many, but I just don't love reading it to him. It's a cute enough book; it's just that for me, the cute is the problem.
I read this to my tummy while I was pregnant and now Charlotte loves it. The rhyming flows perfectly and creates an adorable story about a duckling spending a day with its mom. The illustrations are beautiful too!!!!!
My one year old loves this book. We read it to her at least twice a day. She carries it around the room and just loves the books so much. It has wonderful artwork as well! Her favorite part of the book is when little duck "sticks my tail up in the air and do a little wiggle"!
This is one of Hallie's favorite "grandma" books. For the longest time, she would ask her grandma to read it to her everytime we visited. It was darling.
A cute little story about a Duck's day. The title is a little misleading as there really isn't much in it about getting a cuddle! My 8 month old seemed to enjoy it.
