Tsuda (津田雅美) is a tea-loving, crazy manga-ka who lives in Japan. Her most famous work that has been translated into several languages is Kare Kano (or His and Her Circumstances).

Tsuda likes operas, historical sites, and classic children's tales.

What if the Meiji Restoration never happened? Bakufu still holds sway, the class system has never been abolished, and there is no westernization. The story is set in modern-era Edo, which had never been renamed to Tokyo, where people go to Kabuki for entertainment and hang out at pancake house. It centers around a daughter of an elite Tokugawa shogun who goes to school with the eccentric son of the ruling Tokugawa clan's Mito family.

Now, to tell you the truth, I bought this manga because I thought it contains some fighting scene, samurai-style. Oh! How I was so wrong.

This confusing Kisah Edo di Abad 21 Vol.1 is basically a manga for girls, where teenage girl dressed up as a boy and a teenage boy dressed up and treated as a girl. Alas, he was also called Michelle!!!

In an alternative history setting of modern day Japan, the tomboyish bastard (I guess) daughter of a high ranking samurai and government official befriends a feminine boy, who is one of the potential successors of the Shogun.

While this sounds rather interesting to me, unfortunately "Chotto Edo made" turned out to be another feel-good Slice-of-Life series, which is to say, light and fluffy entertainment with no real substance. The characters are meh, not annoying, but quite boring and typical and the plot is non-existent. The jokes aren't really to my liking either.

The art is pretty basic, rather flat and with little detail. Scenes involving movement look weird and the facial expressions are lacking imho. I was quite surprised when I realized that this is by the same author as Kare Kano, since from the drawings I would have expected the author to be a beginner.

"Chotto Edo made" can appeal to fans of the genre, who like cute characters and can do without a real story. For me it was total boredom and I won't be continuing this series.

I wanted to give this 4 stars. After all, we know how much I love this mangaka thanks to Kare Kano, but there's just not enough information yet. Based on this volume only, I like this better than eensy weensy monster, which was regurgitated and less awesome Kare Kano, but this is, at least, something different. That said, the modern era Edo thing is, at best, a gimmick, and this first volume is just plain and simple fluff. Really cute, chubby, round-faced fluff. I have no idea where this is going, but the inner visualization of Soubi as a puppy definitely makes me feel warm and fuzzy?

This is the weirdest historical manga I've ever read. But it's fun and very cute!
