Still waters...stormy passion...

If Andrew Morrow knows anything, it's his own mind. He has no intention of following through on an arranged marriage to merchant's daughter, Jacinda Blanchett—especially when he loves another. He'll set out for India to make his fortune.

But eight years later, returning to England the captain of a ship, victorious, wealthy, and expecting to wed the woman he left behind, he finds his father living in poverty, his "beloved" married, and his unwanted fiancée missing under mysterious circumstances.

His rash decision was the first link in a chain of misfortune, but he's determined to break it—and when he tracks down Jacinda, he knows it won't be easy. For she is as stubborn as he, and too alluring to resist.

Suddenly, marrying this bold young woman is the only fate he will consider—as long as he can convince her that the passion flaring between them is proof of love.

Andrew Morrow's father is heavily in debt and decides the way out of debt is to betroth Andrew to the young daughter of a merchant. Andrew is in love with another young woman and runs away and does not want to marry the sickly looking Jacinda Blanchett. Jacinda's father is killed the same night as the betrothal contract and is forced to run off into the night. Years later, Jacinda is pretending to be a boy and runs into the now Captain Andrew Morrow. She saves him from the press gangs and in return, he gives her a job at his father's home which also happens to be next to her former home. Eventually Andrew finds out Jacinda is female and his betrothed bride and they hatch a plan to ferret out her father's killer and the person who still wants her dead.

Some portions of this book were good. I enjoyed the hunt for the killer. My problem was, this didn't really seem like a romance book. Sure there is a marriage and happily ever after, but there is hardly any romance. The main characters are suddenly in love with each other with little or no lead up to it. I just don't buy them being in love. In fact, now that I think about it, there is really hardly any interaction at all between the two main characters. Andrew leaves because he is so in love with this other female, he cannot bear the thought of marrying Jacinda, yet he forgets her easily and she is barely mentioned again.

I don't know what it is about this book. It is not that the story wasn't interesting, it just wasn't a romance.

Delightful

A rather delightfully mixed tale sure to keep you turning pages. An old fashioned Regency romance with a splash of mystery and a bit of Gothic flavoring make for an enjoyable story.

This book is well thought out and has a great mystery plot as well as the romantic one. It really keeps you guessing as to who the murderer is and what exactly is going on. Jacinda is a fabulously stubborn woman, though she is still feminine. Drew is a great character and his developing love is one of the best parts of the story. The side characters are a little confusing at times, but they get sorted out in your head after a bit. Nice change from your standard regency romance.

This was an okay read. It had some good parts, but the writing could have been better. It's about a girl who flees her home after someone killed her father and tries to kill her and many years later comes back to find out who the murderer is with the help of her betrothed from eight years earlier.
