After claiming my demigod power, I expected smooth sailing with my training. Instead, I’m better at blowing things up and worse at keeping myself and my friends alive.
Now, thanks to me, angry ghosts are taking over the city.
With universal travel shut down, another one of my cousins on my heels, and the city crumbling down around our ears, it’s up to me and a streaking werewolf to keep it together.
Really enjoyed the second book of the series and looking forward to the third. The main character Dmitry is well-rounded and we found out a lot more about him and his backstory in this book. There are similarities to the early Iron Druid books, but I like these better. The characters are more relatable and real, with faults and everything! None of that annoying Mary Sue, always doing/saying/thinking the "right" thing. Not that Dmitry is an anti-hero or a jerk, he's just, well, normal.. for a demigod of the harvest. Ready for book 3 now please.
Dmitry has accepted his demigod status, but things are not going well at all. Besides his cousins coming after him, he cannot make his mother's weapo0ns work as they should, nor even work as well as they did before he accepted his station. In addition, travel from Earth to the pantheon realms has been shut down and the entire system is under attack.
The author has thrown far more than Slavic mythology into the mix here. The combination is quite interesting, but the parts don't always make a lot of sense together. I absolutely loved the lone vegan werewolf story. And the resolution of his mother's tools/weapons was truly excellent.
Wow! Bound kept me spellbound. Dmitry's story is slightly profane and positively humorous. The clever-hip language and the visual descriptions made me smile and totally helped me connect with Dmitry and his pals. I want to hang with these cool kids in squares ville Salt Lake City, minus of course the baddies. Come on Sobel give us another Dmitry saga. This is a hit.
3.5 stars Dimitri gets drawn into a fight with another of his cousins when she causes the pipelines between Earth and the various pantheons to clog up and cause havoc. He learns more about his abilities and how to use the needles he inherited from his mother.
I'm enjoying these books, but I do wish the author would spend just a little more time on the mythology these books are based on.
Demigod powers? More like unable to hire a helper or get a date powers. Dimitri stumbles his way through another adventure with some help from his friends, with an assist by an evil cousin. And in the end, he might get a date. Tom out
Liked the first book of this series, but I liked the second even more. Fun characters with a lot of quirks, from werewolves to an interdimensional plumber, and Dmitriy is as sassy as ever. A fun escape and a real page-turner.
