From the author of The Harbingers Duet comes Pain & Possession a dark mafia romance with an end of the world twist...
When a person faces death they react in all sorts of ways, some cry and grovel. Others sit back and wait for a peace they've longed for their entire lives. I was ready to die when I went home with him that night, I never expected to wake up and face the consequences that come with sleeping with a monster. He's everything I hate, evil and cruel. Laced with venom that infected me from the moment his hands touched my skin. He brings out the worst in me, and I can't escape him.
I'm a glutton for pain, and Olive Hayes is exactly the kind of woman that can hurt me. -Noè
He's the worst kind of man, a murderer. The kind of person who doesn’t feel things. Not things like love anyway, but he says he’s fallen for me. All because we thought the world was ending. - Olive
Pain & Possession is a dark romance, some of the events discussed and portrayed beyond this cover could be upsetting for some readers. Always heed all courtesy warnings and read with care. I'll give you your happily ever after but you’ll have to get your hands dirty first.
Callie Moss is an indie author. She published her first book Surviving December in January 2022. Callie has overcome a lot after being diagnosed with Graves Disease at twenty-three. She's a chronic daydreamer, lover of dark gritty romance that makes you clutch your pearls and forsake well rounded men. She's a married, stay-at-home mom, surrogate, and cosplayer that likes to spend her time reading, writing, and listening to true crime podcasts. She grew up in the Midwest, where she always felt like an outcast. Never quite fitting in with the kids at school, she was bullied for her macabre tastes. Relentless imagination and her obsession with a particular sparkling vampire. She found solace in escapism and learned the profound effect a good story can have on someone. She wants to give her readers the same experience, creating worlds you can lose yourself in, if only for a moment.
was loving this book until it went down hill and it wad all Olive fault.
These two had a sorta one night stand because the world was ending but it didn't end. So awkward morning after and when you go home with the head of the mob you really wanna go away but Noe was already obessed with her like he wanted her to stay make her his wifey. Olive fought him every step of the way which was annoying once or twice okay but over and over and over just got annoying.
And she did hurt him she went on a date and let the guy kiss her. To bad he died from Noe hands. Her other mistake was when Noe edged her and left her bright idea was to go get laid by some random guy, man got to eat her out with Noe watching them and shot him after he gave her a orgasm. I wanted to dnf but I was 60% in already so I did skim sometimes. But when a ex mafia princess puts on moves on Noe she gets jelouse and angry and pushes him away even more? Make it make sense baby.
Beside that mess I love Noe he was FAITHFUL and only wanted her no person was ever on his mind. He deserved better. Family wars is what happens since he wanted no one else but Olive and there is Blood and drama.
Low angst, Om drama (h lets a guy eat her out), cheating (they arent together but they already did stuff and he wanted her)secondary characters, drama, sexy times, virgin gal and no manwhore

3.25 🌟 I was going to give this a 4 star until the last drama Olive pulled like girlll you dumb or what? Why they tryna act brave suddenly despite just facing a consequence. You’re going to protect a Mafia man who’s been killing since he’s a kid, suddenly you’re gonna protect him lollll. Ma’am you are causing more trouble, use some of your brain cells please thank you. That’s my mini rant, I swear to god, these h’s suddenly want to be like the person to go out first in a horror movie just gets on my nerves.
Olive was just fine I didn’t particularly like her. But Noe was THE hero. I really liked him. I went into the book blind and it didn’t disappoint. 🌟
Rating: ⭐️⭐️/5 Spice: 🌶️.5/ MFC: Hated Olive. MMC(s): Noè deserved better. Plot: 2/5 Book cover: 2/5 Would I buy a physical copy?: No.
*sigh* I was sucked in by a quote from TikTok. I should’ve known better.
I hated Olive, literally from the first chapter. She was a brat (not in a good way) and so ungrateful. Acting like she was the only person who wanted to die. 🙄 Noè would’ve given her everything, hell he DID give her everything even after she hurt him!! Noè opened up to her, brought her around his family, who are incredibly important to him, tried to make her feel wanted and he dealt with so much bullshit from Olive it wasn’t even funny!
I kept reading in hopes she would come around but nope, she was terrible throughout the whole thing. Should’ve DNF’d. 🙃
Wow I just finished this ARC and wow I am completely speechless! This is the second book I have read by this author and I am obsessed! I will read anything she writes.
Please check TW before reading this book because it is dark!
Once I started reading about Noè and Olive I could not get enough of them. Everyone was supposed to die so Olive and her friend Laney went to the place she worked so they could be together when everyone died. Funny thing is most people would be terrified to die but not Olive she didn't mind. She would rather it happen so it can just end already. She doesn't expect to go home with a stranger but does because why not!?
Noè was watching her the entire night in the club he couldn't take his eyes off her. He was immediately interested in Olive and wanted her. Once he was with her the next morning he knew that wouldn't be enough. He wanted her forever, and he wasn't going to let her go.
The push and pull between Olive and Noè was everything, I could not get enough of it. The spicy scenes between them were everything, I could not get enough of them! I loved how he was a hard ass but he was a softie for Olive and only her. I could not put this book down because it was so good and I was hooked.
I think i’m having a moment for tormented yet utterly WHIPPED H’s because Noè was delicious.
There is something to be said about waking up next to a stranger the morning after the world was supposed to end, but it is a lovely way to start a romance.
Olive really tested my patience when she was pushing Noè away, but i’m extremely hypocritical when it comes to OM drama and I fully support women’s wrongs 😂 Noè always taking her next to dead bodies was not something i anticipated loving so much hahahaha
They were really made for each other and the darkness inside both of them matched and there is NOTHING i love more than an unhinged couple.
I can’t say enough good things about Noè! He was trying so hard to impress her and was so confused when she didn’t respond well to him bringing her corpses. It really made me want to cuddle him 🥹

I liked the fact for once the ‘pain’ bit was something our MMC enjoyed, our FMC is an independent lady who knows what she wants except a certain mafia man isn’t accepting this fact even though he spouts about equals 🤣 he is just trying to keep her safe. 🌶️🩸🔪
Perhaps the ugliness I always saw in myself was never on the outside. It wasn't the excess pudge by my stomach, or my pale skin. My upturned nose and round eyes. My unusually small doll-like appearance. The ugliness I have long hated grew from inside me, planted there long ago. Taking root long before I was old enough to realize the monster I've always hated was me. That benign darkness that clung to chaos, that thrived when things were fucked up and wrong. The darkness that drew in a man like Noè Arcuri, a moth to the flame.
When news broke out about the impending end to the world, Olive Hayes and best friend Laney are ready for one final amazing night together. Coming to a bar in the heart of Mafia territory, Laney is eyeing the bartender Hock while Olive is staring down the head of one of the most notorious crime families in the area. Noè Arcuri, a man haunted for years by the act of murdering his father, find himself feeling things he's never felt before as the shy woman at the bar keeps catching his eye. Never taking no for an answer, the two are tipsy when he brought her home, determined to spend their last hour alive in one another's clutches. Losing her virginity to him, all caution was tossed to the wind in terms of condoms and protection, each strongly believing it won't matter anyway. Upon waking up to discover themselves still alive, she now fears she made the biggest mistake of her life by sleeping with the most dangerous man in the state. Quickly falling for her, he doesn't want to let her go and resorts to stalking and following her to keep tabs on her. Trying to pull her into the family and the Compound, she fought back temporarily as she struggled to explain her own feelings with him.
"You keep telling me no, Olive, running from me. Playing with my feelings for you. That has consequences. You are mine and I do not share my things."
I was prepared to die; an entire nation was prepared to die.
She keeps denying me, lying to me, playing with me. I'll chain you to these walls and fuck you until you're a blubbering mess if you make me. For you I'd become the worst of monsters.
Determined to finally set his abused mother free from his father's cruelty, he would put a bullet in his father's head, his uncle, and the father of Camilla Riveria all for that one shot of freedom. Pregnant with his baby sister Charlotte, his mother gratefully takes her freedom at the cost of so much pain. Groomed from a you g child to become his father, he fought against it constantly, using pain and self infliction to soothe his broken soul. Until he laid eyes on Olive and found just her presence was enough for him. Falling pregnant with twins, the two battle constant heartache to get to where they gotten, leaving them with beautiful baby boys Gio and Felix. Ready to finally embrace life with him, she's fully ready for whatever it takes, even murder.
Again. I'm grateful it stopped, but trading one pain for another is hardly salvation.
Read to me by Alexa 3.75⭐️ - I’m being picky. The book needed some more editing and the plot was a bit corny and contrived at times. But still thoroughly enjoyable 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ - for frequency, description
I think this is a greater starter dark romance or for readers that want something a little more edgy without horrific things happening to the MC’s particularly the FMC who tends to be the victim in dark romance.
The book starts with the world literally on the brink of collapse due to a nuclear threat. Olive is celebrating the literal end of the world with her friends when she meets Noe and they decide to spend their last few hours on earth together…… shocking…. The world does not end….. and now they’re both left to deal with what should have been the one night stands to end all one night stands but has turned into “we’re still alive so what now?”
Noe is the very definition. of touch her die vibes. He una lives people so casually that it’s a bit jarring at first but her NEVER hurts Olive. He’s OTT J/P and an alpha. But he’s not an alphahole. He’s practically a marshmallow for her while still bring that hot dominance to the relationship.
Olive has a pretty messed up past (some CSA, I skipped the flash backs but I don’t think it’s terribly detailed) and so she has some trauma that prevents her from being as open to Noe as we would like. She has moments that feels like she’s being difficult for the sake of driving the plot ( which I hate) but then I remember that she’s damaged so lashing out seems on par given her past.
We get a HEA and a bit more in the epilogue. The author does a good job of providing conflict between the couple that keeps things interesting and moving forward without making it feel forced and without making us wait until 70% before we get any action or romance.
It’s dark, there’s violence, spice, age -gap, mafia, dub con, breeding kink, and OTT J/P MMC.
Mild OM drama.
Honestly this book has almost everything I want from a dark romance. I wish the editing was a bit better, that Noe was just a LITTLE less soft with Olive ( but honestly I think I’m nitpicking this point, her was probably a perfect balance), and I would just like more 😈. I wouldn’t have minded if this was a seriesZ I think I need more Noe in my life
🫀Review🫀 --- Pain and Possession by Callie Moss --- 5⭐ 4 🌶️ read for me --- Tropes💋 -- 🔫 Mafia 🩸Blood play ☠️ Touch her and die 🍼 Breeding --- Triggers ⚠️ -- Graphic Sex Murder Themes of Humiliation Kidnapping Stalking Forced Proximity Non-Con Dub Con Blood & Knife Play Masochism Self-Harm Flashbacks of Childhood Sexual Trauma & Abuse (Non-Graphic) --- 📚 Summary -- Olive was ready to have the world end. But when she opens her eyes she realizes the world did not end and now Noe has decided he wants to keep her for himself. One night will be er be enough and he will make sure she sees things his way. But being with Noe means she will be thrown into the craziness of the Mafia and the rivals that want to take him down. -- 🔥This book has everything I want in my dark romance including the male main character being absolutely unhinged and in love with the female main character that he does desperate things to win her. Any time Noe bites Olive I melt 🫠. He's so primal and needy to have her and mark her in all ways he can. Including getting her pregnant. Olive was very back and forth on him but when she finally came around she was all in and was willing to push his limits that he set for her to ensure he saw her as his equal.
Pain and Possession is a dark mafia romance. Make sure to check the trigger warning.
I was hooked from the start!!!
The world is about to end and Olive and her best friend, Lane, head out to a bar to go out with a bang. Olive isn't afraid to die, she is ready for it to happen. When a hot stranger asks Olive to go home with him, she doesnt resist. They only have 4 hours left, so they are gonna enjoy their night together. Olive doesn't know his name, but is glad she won't be alone.
The next morning, that wasnt supposed to happen, Olive wakes up next to Noé Arcuri, head of the Arcuri crime family. She doesn't want to be a part of that kind of life due to what happened in her past, so she just wants to leave what happened between them as a hook up. But, what Noé wants, he takes, and he wants Olive. She might fight it and deny it, but she wants him too.
I love Callies writing!! Olive and Noé may be complete opposites but are so alike!! I love Noé, that man is FINE!!!! Olive is so much stronger than she thinks she is and i love how they bring different things out in each other.
Noé is your favorite kind of book boyfriend, possessive and obsessive in the best ways. And the spice is 🔥🔥🔥🔥!!!
If you havent read any of Callies books yet, go do it now!!! Youre missing out on some AMAZINGNESS!!!
Oh, my word, I absolutely loved this gorgeous dark love story, I'm flabbergasted... Mind-blowing start to this tremendous plot, it's fiery and steamy hot. Omg, I couldn't come away from this remarkable, enticing story, I need more from this writer, asap.
Olive is fiery, a broken beautiful girl who is tormented by traumatic memories and Noè is so direct, intense, and powerful and takes what he wants, I love that man! He is so possessive of Olive, however, they were also each other anchors and they balanced each other off. I loved the way how this brilliant writer showed their feelings and connection. They were both broken and both needed each other. It also captured me how Olive's vulnerability was presented and the constant reassurance of Noè toward her, so heart-warming their interactions with each other. And, to add to this their monologues were gripping as well. However, I must mention that this is not for the faint of heart, there are some triggers that are not for everyone's taste. Yet, I felt spoiled by having the immense pleasure of reading this story and it's definitely worth it!
This tremendous long book is packed with action and if you are into hot dark, possessive stalker mafia romance then this is for you, and I 100% recommend it!
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
3.5 stars Not bad, but there there are lots of grammar and editing errors that disrupt the reading flow. Normally I can get past this, but there are too many to ignore in this story.
Spoilers… Be warned this is an age-gap insta love type of story, but the initial plot line is unique. How they hooked up as a result of the world ending, but the world kept going, resulting in them having to face each other afterwards was different; but afterwards it became your standard mafia story. I wasn’t a big fan of the FMC; by the end of the story Olive’s character didn’t stay true to how she was originally portrayed. You can’t act like someone is wholesome and good and yet they bring innocent people into situations knowing it’ll get them killed; and they don’t even care about their deaths.
The fact that she got not one, but two people killed, albeit the first one was not her fault, she showed no remorse. I’m not a fan of stories in which innocent people are intentionally used as pawns, knowing getting them involved will result in their death. So I actually stopped liking olive’s character as a result of this. I also am not a fan of pregnancy stories (it’s just not my thing). So why this one started strong, I found myself bored about halfway through and forcing myself to finish the last 20%. This was all due to Olive, Noe stayed true to his character throughout.

So the minute I started read the book I was hooked because come on the end of the world is coming within a few hours who wouldn’t be drawn in to see what happens. Plus our heroine is a virgin and who’s going to die a virgin at her age lol I really liked Noe and Olive. While they may seem opposites they share many similarities and circumstances. Noe is an alpha extremely possessive man. Rich, powerful with an alluring magnetic quality ti him. He’s also the head of the Arcuri mafia family. So add deadly, merciless and ruthless to his list of attributes. Olive has had a difficult upbringing and an intense tragedy in her life. When the end of the world is announced she has no problems or qualms about it. I found Olive to be strong and determined, which she doesn’t give herself enough credit for. And Noe has such a different side to himself when it comes to Olive. They together somehow bring balance and a calm to one another. But also bring out sides that are hidden and unfamiliar to them. I won’t spoil what they are but I was surprised and would not have thought it possible. And holy smokes their sexual tension and attraction is intense and sizzling hot! Their story is gripping, raw and edgy.
I've been in a book slump since last year and I've had a hard time finishing anything I start lately. But this book, I couldn't put it down!
Noè and Olive meet in a an unconventional way. It was a really unique way to start a book, with the threat of a nuclear war. It has no bearing on the story except that its what brings these two together.
Noè is pretty enthralled with Olive from the start. Olive is less convinced they belong together. But that is what made this story so fun. I LOVED watching Noè bulldoze his way into her life. He is a masochist so I think he sort enjoyed her rejections a bit for a while there.
There were some editing issues and some things I had to suspend my disbelief for - like him flying from NYC to LA taking care of business and flying back to NYC and still getting there in time to get her from the club that she decided to go to after he dropped her off at her apartment that evening right before he flew to LA. Yeah, that was a bit unbelievable. Or Olive remembering a phrase he said in Italian once and was able to repeat it weeks later verbatim. BUT I didn't care, because I loved this book so much.
As soon as I started reading this, I knew it was going to be an incredible read. Callie draws you in instantly within the first page, that you won't be able to put this book down once you start.
Olive and Noė are definitely a book couple you'll be rooting for. Noė is your typical alpha male, head of a mafia family but his character development is incredible. You get to see so much of his strength and his vulnerability, and also the male being the masochist?! Haven't read that in anything yet, which I loved! Olive, is a strong FMC, she keeps fighting her feelings for Noė until the very end and when these two fully commit to eachother, their enemies definitely pay. Oh and the spicy scenes between these two, are definitely some of my favourites I've read!
If you haven't read anything by Callie yet, I can't say this enough, but you're missing out. Go read her books.
I received this book free as an ARC reader. Moss is an absolute goddess when it comes to dark romance. I have read all her other books that are out (the day they’re out 🥰) and while I absolute love the others, this one is my favorite so far. The beginning was completely unexpected but so good.
With Callie Moss’ books, you are going to realize that you may have more kinks than you initially thought…like a guy murdering someone for kissing you and then showing you their dead body and then screwing you in the same room as the body.
Olives so stubborn when it came to Noe wanting to be with her but to be fair he was kind of stalking her 😂 .
Noe is so amazing to Olive and I love it. He worships her and his family love her almost immediately. They all would protect her at all costs.
So not only is this dark and twisted but also very sweet.

So basically the world is ending when the book opens and Noe and Olive eat at his club on the supposed last night before a missile strikes. Olive is a v and is looking to loose it before dying.
Noe is possessive of her right off the bat when they meet. They spend the night together and when they surprisingly wake up (in his house-which is apocalypse proof) she instantly looses it. He is in the mafia and she dislikes that. She instantly want to leave, he doesn't want to let her go. She accidentally yells at him in front of his men. he empties the room and they have smex. (this series has serious non-con and more dub-con themes)
She goes home, they don't meet. He makes it clear he wants her. He has her meet his family.... EVEN THEN when she's left alone the first chance she gets she goes out and finds a guy and just as she is riding him (his face) Noe comes, she tries to kick him out. He stays, he makes them finish and the shoots the guy. this is the second guy this dude has k*lled for her and SHE STILL DOUBTS his devotion to her......! I swear she is TSTL. (this is the only OM drama in this book) I FELT BAD FOR THE H.
She does have feeling for him and she hates imagining him with a woman (in her mind but it never happens) but denies both of them. It is actually ridiculous. the title is accurate, reading this was pain. Overall a good read. The writing is still underdeveloped.... so don't go into it with high expectations
triggers: there are mentions/flashbacks of her being r*ped
With only a few hours to go before the world ends Olive decides to go out and lose her vCard . She sees a guy staring at her but she decides to ignore him and carry on with her night until he’s there dancing with her and asking her to go home with him. When Noè sees Olive he wants her as she tries to ignore him she keeps giving sly glances when she thinks he’s not looking , he approaches her and they end up going back to his home. They both think they will die together but when they both wake up the next day Olive regrets everything and runs but by then Noè is obsessed with her and there’s no way he’s going to let her go . This is my second book from Callie and she’s fast become a favourite author and I can’t wait to see what she brings next.
Although there were more Killing in this book( vs for the love of layla), some for innocent people, but some were justified. Overall , the story took you into 3 phases and somehow you kind of miss the development, you are there and only when you think back, you wonder how you reached this stage.. The hero was more consistent ( although he was a bit soft when it comes to her. Which was manifested in ignoring her rejection by moving on with the conversation in a sweet way), it was her who witnessed the biggest change. I guess her street smart from 15 had a role, yet we didn't really see it, so we didn't relate yet it was kind of the only justification to her strength at the end. It was a new read yet fun.

The world was ending, so Olive and her friend had the idea Olive should go and lose her virginity. She found her guy and he took her home. When they woke up in the morning, the world didn’t end.
Olive wanted to go home, but Noe was all obsessed about her and even though Olive kept fighting him, he didn’t stop pursuing him. Olive was quite annoying as she kept leading him on and then she would send him away. She also got some people killed because of her stupidity.
Noe wanted Olive and he did everything in his power to achieve that.
After some time a daughter of another mob head appeared and she got all jealous of Olive which made things complicated for everyone….
Noe' meets Olive at a bar on the night before the nuclear holocaust. Olive is more than happy to sleep with him and die with him but when the world is saved at the last minute she is really disappointed. He decides he can't live without her and he will have her whether she wants him or not.
I loved his brutality that never fades. But I also adore his affection for his loved ones.
The book was good but the lack of commas and semi colons made it hard to make sense of some sentences and was distracting. I'm not sure but I think the blurb said it had been edited for errors. If so, it needs more editing.
Female character did not do it for me. I’m a huge mafia book reader and Olive was such a brat… her attitude, her personality and just how she was written does not at all fit the mafia world. I get that she has trauma, but to act like a bratty child the whole book, it was too much. I wished Noe would’ve just let her go instead of continuing to pursuit her. Noe fit the role well, it was just Olive who definitely made reading this book painful, I don’t know how I managed to finish the book.. I really thought there would be development from Olive but it turned from being a brat to a brat throwing tantrums.
The cover played a role in reading this book, but the concept of the world ending and being a dark mafia romance drew me in. I knew Author Callie Moss could pull this off.
Olive, who is 21, captures the attention of Noé, 35, a mafia boss. They spend the last night together before the world goes kaput and go wild with each other. However, to their surprise, they woke up alive the next day. Though Olive attempts to move on, Noé doesn’t want to let her go and gets OTT quickly.
I enjoyed reading this story. It was different than other mafia romances. Several dark themes are woven into the story, which makes Olive and Noé a perfect match.
Love love love Olive and Noè! If you like dark, spice, mafia, and drama, read this! Once again, Callie Moss has written top tier dark romance that I’m ravenous for. The characters are funny and messed up and just like normal people, save for the mafia boss thing. The end of the world twist was the perfect beginning for this couple and the ending is even better! I would do ungodly things for this kind of love! As always, check trigger warnings because you really do have to suffer for this HEA! I was lucky enough to get an ARC in exchange for an honest review!
My heart is still beating rapidly. Some misspelling, words left out, but trust me you will get the point. Love the possessive way the H goes for the h. Both thought one night was it, but found out differently the next morning. The h really got on my nerve at first but once she realized H was the real thing it changed. Afterwards story plot got really good. Wondering if there will be a follow up for H sister and h friend. If you like a fast pace, edge of your seat and heart pounding story, purchase this book.
Or is it? The world is supposed to be ending, and Olive's best friend refuses to let Olive die a virgin. So they did themselves at the closest bar. Only Olive doesn't just find any hot guy, she finds the blazingly hot, head of the baddest mob family in town. And the world doesn't end. What follows is the most painfully beautiful start to a new life. This booked wrecked me and I loved every second!
First I want to say that Callie Moss has a gift for writing Over the top Obsessive and possessive Heroes. The way she writes “touch her and die” vibes is outstanding. I enjoyed reading this book because I really loved Noa, but for some reason I HATED Olive. She was way too annoying and did things that blew my mind and wanted me to yell at her. I would love more of Noa though.
