The stories are excellent, but a bit obvious; mostly the kind of material horror fans will have read before and therefore expect from an anthology like this. There are also two Sherlock Holmes mysteries which, while excellent, feel out of place in what is meant to be a horror anthology. If you're going to include Conan Doyle, why not one of his non-Holmes horror tales, like The Case of Lady Sannox? Or, if you have to include Holmes, why not something like The Hound of the Baskervilles, which at least carries Gothic vibes?
Overall, this collection is recommended for young readers who want an introduction to literary horror, but there’s not much here for those already well-versed in the genre.
