Is there life on Mars? No.-- Could there be one day? That is what this book is all about - a little science a little science fiction with a futuristic vision of life on Mars.
Which would be interesting - The Martian atmosphere is much thinner than our atmosphere. Most of it is a gas called carbon dioxide. The planet is cold - about 70 degrees Fahrenheit below zero. (p19)
This is a Stage 2 Let's Read and Find Out Science book which is designed to explore more challenging concepts for children in primary grades.
ACTIVITY: Did you notice the end pages with all the moon rocks that have been given names. What would you name a moon rock? How about ten rocks.
ACTIVITY: Design a small living space that could exist on Mars.- keep in mind that you need lots of heat, oxygen, and food.
This book is very cool! It starts out with a forward from Neil Armstrong (the first man to walk on the moon). In his forward, he talks about how people thought life was on Mars, but as far as different rovers can tell, there has been no life activity. He encourages his readers to follow their dreams and they may be the first human to walk on Mars! This book explains how flight to Mars is even possible and how Astronauts will adapt to the environment there. This book could be used for creative/imaginative learning. It could also be used for a unit on Space exploration. Cute book, cool illustrations!
A great book for kids who are interested in space travel. The book tells about how a Mars manned mission would go and it is much like the set up of the mission in the novel The Martian, so somewhere there is a plan to go to Mars already set up and planned, but I guess there is not enough money to actually do it. This book encourages kids to think about their place in the universe and where their grandchildren might end up. Fun illustrations.
Second graders got really excited that the forward was by Neil Armstrong. They thought he wrote the whole book. A good little book lesson for them.
Imagines what the first human mission to Mars might be like. My one complaint is that written in that tense, the book is a bit confusing for students about whether or not this has already been done.
This was pretty accessible, and is a nice introduction of Mars for kids. The book goes through the process of what astronauts do back and forth from and on Mars, and how that differs from our life on Earth. With an introduction from Neil Armstrong and a touch of inspiration for what's to come in the future, kids interested in space exploration would definitely benefit from this.
I used this book to introduce my preschoolers to the planet mars and our solar system. It is written and illustrated with children in mind and they were truly engaged as we explored its pages. It statyed on our bookshelf for all the time that we explored the solar system and the preschoolers would often be seen exploring it independantly.
A very interesting book about missions to mars and what is happening in the solar system. It talks about all the different technology that is needed for the mission and what needs to be accomplished. (non-fiction, picture)
I adored the illustrations and the beginning (I'll say rather unique, the forward from Neil Armstrong). My eight-year-old enjoyed it as much as I did. 5 stars for depicting what it might be a life outside the Earth on Mars. Space travel may just become a regular thing!
