This is the dedication: “To Rachel, who chose not to forgive him, and that’s okay” Good for you Rachel!!! 🫶
This book is only 119 pages. We can’t see the first 5 months after she asked for the divorce where he really starts to change. He goes to therapy, become celibate and realize that he not only cheated but was abusive and toxic towards her. I think that part should have been seen. At least a couple of scenes of him with his therapist talking about why he did what he did during that many years.
We get to see an email that the heroine sent to her lover (the guy that she cheated with that started all of this) and honestly I felt bad for the Hero (I never thought l will say that) She said that she was always thinking about him. Even during those 6 years that she was married and happy with H. And that she couldn’t stop to imagine what it will be like if he was the one with who she had her kids. She was postpartum depression but it was pretty fucked up anyway what she said. We can’t forget that she cheated physically too. So I will get in a toxic way that he wanted to revenge cheat but the thing is that 15 fucking years it’s a long long long time.
A thing I did like was when he found her with OM after she asked for the divorce and he can see that they just have sex. OM kissed h a goodbye kiss and when OM left H went and begged h on his knee for another chance. He said that she could continue to f OM and whoever she wanted and do what she wanted but to come back to his life in whatever form. I love a man begging on his knees.
Also, their kid (the H of purity) send him a picture of h dressed for a date with OM and he suffered. I liked that one too.
Another thing that I liked was that he was suffering. During all the book.
Things I didn’t like:
-There are things that are not resolve. Like does she come back to study? What happened with OM? She cheated to OM with H but she never felt wrong about it just bad that she gave H false hope. Did H continue to go to therapy?
-A think I didn’t like was that they never talked about safety info. Did he use condoms always with other women? Because in this book they have sex without protection without talking about it. Also, she slept with another man in this book (her divorce attorney) and we don’t know either if they were safe. Only that she regretted because it was too soon for her 😑
-He hardly had any interaction with the kids in this book. He used the kids and the kids saw the way he treated their mom. One of their kids (a Hero in another book) was pretty fucked up because of it. I think it should talked about. I don’t think he learnt in that regard. In fact, he said that heroine took care of the kids during the week while the kids took care of him during the weekend.
-There is a time jump. She decided to give him a date and then 6 months later(like an epilogue) she decides to forgive him. We don’t get to see what happened during those 6 months to make her forgive him.
-More talk about toxic masculinity. He grow up in a toxic masculinity household. It’s mention his dad cheated bc he thought he could because he was the one making the money. H compared himself to him but heroine thought it was not the same that H was less bad. Imo he is the same or pretty close. He thought he could cheat and should cheat because he was the one hurting, the one betrayed. He didn’t care about hurting his kids in the process. I mean his kid found him f some woman on a trip that he went with. And he continues to sleep with other women even after all of that.
So, do I think that he is going to cheat again? Not likely. Does he have grown as a person? Maybe a little bit. Is he still toxic, a bit manipulative and very selfish? I will say yes.
OPINION ABOUT THE EXTRA EPILOGUE:
The extra starts with H asking their kids for their mother’s hand. Apparently, the kids know about the 15 years of cheating because the older brother (H of purity) told them about it because H wanted them to know (honestly don’t get why H will want their kids to know that shit) Anyway, they are mad with him for hurting their sweet naive angel of a mother but will give the blessing if that’s what their mother wants. (The older kid was going to tell them about the mother cheating first but H didn’t want them to know) I mean I guess that’s supposed to be romantic, he assuming all the fault but honestly I don’t like the h either. And she was wrong for doing that. She didn’t deserve all the abuse and cheating that she suffered later on but she was wrong when she cheated on H first. And then when she used OM too. So I don’t think she’s a saint.
The part that I laughed was when their daughter said:
"You're our parents. We want you to be together. My biggest problem is that I don't trust you. I can't believe you had affairs, Dad." She grimaces. “It's so gross. Only creepy guys do that." Maddy's words wrap like a coil around my heart, squeezing it so hard it's hard to take a breath. God, I can't imagine what she must have felt when she found out. Her own father stomped all over her angel of a mother for fifteen years.
Yes, the kid called them AFFAIRS not ONS. Because that’s what he had. He was seeing some of them a lot of times.
So, the kids told H that they prefer their mother to him bc she always put them first so they put her first now too. After that the next scene is them in Hawaii sun bathing. AND THEN the Om (that h’s ex that she cheated with on the H) appears. The H acts not mad about it and doesn’t care (on the outside) about it. H obv cares but thinks that he won bc she is sleeping with him at the end of the day. H asked h if she has feeling for him and that he will understand her if she did bc it was a part of her life. She says no. And asks h to marry him again (this time with a ring that h will like not a big diamond ring that was not her style)

REVIEW OF PART ONE OF THIS DUET WITH SAFETY INFO:
I wrote a review with all the spoilers and don’t know how it was eliminated all. This app need some adjusting. Anyway, long story short:
She cheated with ex fiancé after 7 years married to H. It was after the last birth of their kids. It lasted 2 months and maybe a little more because they started talking first. H and h married super fast and he knew she was still pinning for OM. He is 6 years older than her. She was depressed after birth and have a little problem with self esteemed. Doesn’t justify it. Just giving facts.
She told him and after that he cheated on her during 15 years with a lot of ow. Super young ow. Everyone knows about this. Even their son. He found him with ow in a trip for the two of them. This son is the H of purity and he is pretty messed out for this dynamic. He doesn’t know until later that his mom cheated first. H even has a beach house to make the cheating easier and told h how he would NEVER sleep with someone of their circle. BUT she found him a couple of times with ow in bed (not in scene) and even found him with a young ow in a supermarket buying h’s almond milk. SO, he is not hiding himself that well.
She asked for divorce after the milk incident and because their young child is almost 18. He doesn’t believe her but after a little bit. He realizes that he has pushed her too much and is leaving. He feels bad because he hasn’t been able to forgive. He told h that if she doesn’t divorce him he would stay faithful. She has had enough. They have sex sometimes BUT only in the almost last chapter she asked him if he is clean. He told her that he was checked the next day after she ask for the divorce. After that he hasn’t been with anyone.
IF HE LEAVES ANY OW PREGNANT IM OUT. Hope he uses protection but that is not even 100% so…

SPOILERS OF PURITY:
Their son was making out with ow and was going to have sex but she realizes that he is H’s son bc H brought her to their house to have sex. This ow has the same age as his son. And had sex with her in their house. Maybe in h and H’s bed in the 15th anniversary of the day that h told him about affair.

I have read some rumors that h was going to have a bf in the next book. Probably the hot divorce lawyer that we met in this book. I’m here for it. There is a scene where H kissed h in front of this lawyer. He acts like a caveman.
We don’t know what happened with her ex fiancé. He was going to talk with him after she told him about it.
Also, the author has said that we are going to have some painful flashbacks scenes of H and ow. I think they are flashbacks because if he touches another after trying to bring her back. I’m out.
I found super disgusting all of the ow drama especially knowing that they are super young and that has also been super painful for her self esteem. With all this, we have to add that she doesn’t have a job and doesn’t have an income because he didn’t want that. Everyone knows about him cheating and feel petty for h. EVEN THEIR KIDS. He has messed out his own kids with all this instead of breaking up and divorcing. He thinks she doesn’t love him until the last scene where after they have sex (and he called her whore btw) and she told him about seeing him with ow in supermarket and how much her heart was breaking. How she didn’t have any heart left because he just took and took. He realizes that she loves/loved him but is leaving. He broke down and started to cry and beg but she leaves.
About the whore thing, he always thought she was an angel and all that crap. After the after he calls her whore and stopped calling her his darling girl. He called her that when they were having sex and he started to think of her with OM. It’s not the first time that he does this. She permits this during the times that they have sex. Didn’t use protection but she asked him about being clean. Does he use protection with ow?
I don’t really understand why he would sleep with so many ow. He even says that he doesn’t know why he did it. He could have avoid it. But he kept doing it over and over again. He is selfish and they are super toxic. This story explains perfectly why sometimes divorce parents are better for kids that to have to live with this dynamic just to “be a family”
For me, the worst is that all this messed up their kids, her self esteem and could have been avoid. He wants to be the only one to have her and is super mad at her.

This is book 2 of a duology, the first one is called faithless
The despair descends over me suddenly. It’s so potent I fall to my knees and wrap my arms around her thighs.
His eyes shine as he stares up at me. The mixture of adoration and despair on his face is so overwhelming I want to run away.
But I can’t. I’m locked in place.

I swallow to loosen the knot in my throat. “Mark…”
“Please. Oh God. I’m begging you. I’ll do absolutely anything.” Streams of water fall down his cheek, glistening under the porch light. “I can’t bear this. It will kill me.”

Continuing with my unhealthy obsession with this duology! I know i know there should pass years before they got back together not a few months!!! BUT THE MAN GROVELS AND AGAIN, I ATE IT UP!!!!! The way he started therapy and worked with himself, he became emotionally open and voneruble, did everything in his power to please her!! Ok you get it, there was my type of crack in these books, the author clearly did it for me!!

So I didn't think it was possible, but Skyler actually had me feeling sorry for Mark, the poor bastard😅
Some things come to light about Whitney's affair with her ex, and it honestly was so painful and gut-wrenching to read. To be honest, after I saw that, all I thought was Mark should have divorced her ass. Instead, he chose to cheat for 15 years because he's toxic AF and can't let go. Which is not ok by any means.
Basically, this is a story of flawed people who decide to forgive and try again. To have a new beginning.
The reason I can't give it more than 3 Star's is because I don't think Whitney's cheating was addressed properly. Her making amends was apparently just letting Mark cheat, which just didn't work for me. Mark was an emotionally abusive asshole who had a ton of ONS. Whitney had an emotional and physical affair with an ex. Some of the things she said to her ex about Mark and their marriage were quite frankly unforgiveable, IMO.
I also felt like their reconciliation was too fast. Whitney held out until the end of the book, so most of their reconciliation was off page. With everything that happened between the two of them, I would have liked to see them maybe going to councling together, dates, and learning to trust each other again. If that happened, I definitely would have bumped it up to 4 stars.

He lives 15 years with a crazy level of rage—is he justified? Probably initially, his pain turns to rage that he can’t let go, until she finally wants a divorce. And then he’s in panic mode. He needs her to forgive him, he wants a real marriage and she’s ready to move on.

I was very disappointed with this book. This book really deserves a one star rating, but since I waited so long to read a novella I bumped it up. This whole relationship was toxic mess from day one. I needed more of something from both characters, the supporting characters, something ! What’s evident though, is “the husband” needed a psychiatric hospital and a diagnosis and medication. I feel this was not a cheating book, he really didn’t get any pleasure from his actions.”The husband” was greatly traumatized by not only “the wife’s “ cheating, but her words. Her email to another man made “the husband” a lunatic. In the end I felt sorry for him, this and the author.

This author writes characters and scenarios where the behavior is unfathomable, yet the emotions behind it are highly understandable. The H has been massively, grotesquely unfaithful to the h for 15 years because of an affair she had 15 years ago. It seems likely that there were hundreds of women. Furthermore, he is cruel to her verbally whenever possible. She accepts it, arguably for the sake of the kids, and then finally she has enough and decides to divorce him. he freaks out because he realizes he has lost her.
That’s where this book begins. The entire second book (the book I am reviewing right now) is about his attempts to win her back. The author does about as good of a job as possible to make this effort believable and plausible, however there really isn’t any good reason for them to stay together. In fact, no one should want to maintain the kind of relationship that they had. Imagine more than a decade of holidays and birthdays where your husband treats you with disdain or active cruelty, dampening your enjoyment of every family holiday, birthday or celebration. Wouldn’t you want an opportunity to create fresh memories apart from the person who did this to you? Also, he lived in a state of seething anger, maliciousness and cruelty. He was never able to get past her affair. What type of person does this? Does she think that he will Suddenly improve now that they’ve made their peace with each other? No, no one who thinks like that will ever be normal or safe to live with.
The same single-mindedness that made this H hell on earth to live with in the previous book is now applied to the pursuit of his ex-wife. That cartoon-character intensity makes his groveling less convincing and enjoyable.
For those of you who are concerned about this, he remains celibate throughout this book and is penitent and often groveling. There are a lot of flashbacks to his affairs, so it’s not safe. In fact, it’s not safe on both ends: She moves on very briefly (one sexual encounter, which she enjoys) although she has many many opportunities, something that drives the H crazy.

This is a sequel to Faithless, you should read that before reading Forgiveness.
I had so much anxiety going into this book. In Faithless we learned that Mark and Whitney have been married for 20+ years. Early in their marriage, Whitney had an affair with her ex-fiancé. As punishment, Mark spent the next 15 years sleeping with various women. Whitney finally realizes she can’t live like that anymore and tells Mark she wants a divorce.
Forgiveness picks up about 5-1/2 months into their separation. Mark has essentially blackmailed Whitney into once a week lunch-dates in exchange for their vacation home. Mark has remained celibate during the separation and has basically fallen apart. Whitney is healing and dating again.
1) Skyler Mason amazes me. She is an indie author and has blown it out of the water with every book she has released so far.
2) The duet was hard to read. Cheating has been a major trigger for me until the past six months or so. While Whitney did something terrible, Mark was just a complete ass for the next 15 years. I like that we saw his perspective in this book and saw that he did have some guilt/remorse for what he was doing.
3) I think this book could create lots of good discussion. I liked that Whitney didn’t really seem to take other people’s opinion into consideration when she was deciding whether to forgive Mark or not (at least on page) Marriage is such a complex and intimate relationship, walking away is hard and choosing to stay and forgive is hard.

This books is missing so much info.
Coming right in from book one, you miss 5 months of him trying to win her back. And he does it by blackmail (by saying he won’t give her her favorite Tahoe house unless she agrees to lunch with him every week for 6 months).
The books is only about 100 pages or so and it was just not enough. In order for me to understand the depth of these piece of shit people I need more then just a 75 then a 100 page duet.
The husband was unforgivable. Narcissistic and creepy.

I did not like it at all and would rate it 0 stars if I could. No person with a backbone would tolerate being cheated on for FIFTEEN YEARS.

And then the light bulb kinda goes off that he's a douche and hes on hands and knees when he sees her ex divorce lawyer turned someone she's seeing coming out of her house 😂😂
Its only 100 pages so I didn't get closure of what happened to her divorce lawyer dude or what changed her mind 😐 but I enjoyed the angst. Also, It was too short! I wished it was longer!

Forgiveness
This was the road to forgiveness. At times I just wanted to strangle Whitney. She says that she didn't want to hurt Mark but that keeps happening. At least she gives him another chance and they find their happiness. One still left wondering how she ended things with Steven. After they slept together he's just not mentioned again.
I did not like the back and forth from past and present.

After Faithless, I so excited for this book because of the expected angst and grovelling but there was barely any and I’m so disappointed. He cheated on her for 15 years and was forgiven so easily ugh.

My rating: 3 stars
What I liked: I liked how Mark(H), at the Christmas Ball, told everyone how he was the one who was the idiot in the relationship and because of that he is losing the love of his life….How he should have never cheated. I also liked how honest they were to each other.
What I didn’t like: I didn’t like the back and forth from past to present. I get that the author wanted us to know that Mark(H) was having a change of heart but he continued doing what he was doing. I also really wished we got more of them working on their relationship. She says yes to giving him a date and BAM we get 6 months later she asking him to move in.
***Major Spoilers/ Details/Triggers: This is the second book and it starts 4 months after she asked for a divorce. H blackmailed the h in giving him 6 months of lunch dates once a week and for her to go with him to the Christmas Ball, if she does she can have their vacation home. We see the H in the past (3 years prior to the h asking for a divorce) with ow just got done having sex and him feeling guilty. Ow calls him out on him cheating and she kicks him out. H comes home and the h asks him about it and him being an ass tells her that his “clients” has nothing to do with her. He then asks her for a kiss which she gives him (knowing what he came from). It jumps to the present where they are eating lunch and h gets a call from om asking for another date and H freaking out and leaving. h has been seeing om, who used to be her lawyer, and can’t wait until the deal with the H is over. Om asks the h to a wedding and h is planning on having sex with him at that time (since she is ready to be with someone). H finds out about the Om from his son’s girlfriend. When H takes h to the Christmas Ball, he lets everyone know how horrible he treated the h and because of that he lost her. That he wished he never cheated and if he could he would change the past. H and h decide to be open and honest about his past and she tells him that it was always him and not her ex fiancé. H tries again and asks her out but she said she can’t. h goes to the wedding with om and they have sex. h wasn’t ready and wished she didn’t. H shows up and begs the h to give him a chance but she tells him to leave. h feeling sick with anxiety calls the H to take their daughter to school. He comes and stays with the h. They have sex. Trashy entertainment. Ate it up, even the parts I didn’t like. I still wish she would’ve gotten with someone else though. Her husband is such a little bitch and I needed him to suffer sooooo much more. And why was this story split into two parts? They’re both so short.
Side note: That song Anna Farris sings in Just Friend keeps getting stuck in my head whenever I see the cover of this book. “Forgiveness… is more than saying sorry.”
