Immortal Rogues #1

My Lord Vampire

Rate this book
While the ton dances and gossips, another kind of society altogether claims the London night as its own. By the light of the moon, three noble vampires entrusted with the protection of their kind will discover that human desire is far from lost to them—and that love may be the only thing they long for more than life everlasting...

Midnight Kiss

When an old gypsy woman gives Sally Jenkins a mysterious amulet—promising much happiness if she safeguards it, and doom if she gives it to another—Sally is intrigued. Born on the wrong side of the coverlet, and currently her half sister's drudge, Sally has never had anything of value to call her own. Then a tragic carriage accident en route to London suddenly presents Sally with the chance to live her near twin's life.

Masquerading as Simone Gilbert, Sally is soon the toast of the ton, hosting dazzling parties and cozy salons—and the object of two men's dogged courtship. Sally senses a dangerous hunger beneath Tristan Soltern's smooth-mannered interest that repulses her, but she is drawn to elegant, black-eyed Gideon Ravel—and tempted to prove to him that she is exactly what she seems.

It's a risky game—especially when she discovers that Gideon himself is something other than the refined gentleman she believes him to be, something far more dangerous and unbearably seductive...

This is one of those books that has a decent premise and interesting characters but simply was not flushed out enough to allow readers to fully connect to the story; it needed more detail, more depth in order to bring out the strength of the characters and the content in the storyline... I thought both the hero and heroine were likable characters that had strong potential to be completely mesmerizing, but their personalities remained surfaced leading their connection feeling somewhat superficial.... I could see the potential in the writing and understand this is an early novel for this author; I would be intrigued to see how her writing becomes more expressive in future novels... 3 Stars:)

I really enjoy Alexandra Ivy’s Guardians of Eternity vampire series, so when I was offered this book for review I jumped on it! It’s not the same series, in fact it’s an older book she re-vamped (pardon my vampire pun), but it’s set in the same world, and we see cross-over characters.

I did like the book, but I don’t feel it really hooked me the same way her other series did. My biggest complaint is that the hero is sent from behind the veil (where the vampires have gone to devote their lives to becoming more enlightened) to the human realm. One of their own is slaughtering humans like the days of old, and Gideon was chosen to stop him. This was my main complaint. Gideon feels he can reason with his serial killer. He’ll just explain how hunting humans is wrong and his buddy will go peacefully back behind the veil. Ummm. No. It’s not logical. Maybe at first, but then once he faced off with Tristan for the first time and realized what a monster he really was? I don’t know, for such an enlightened vampire, it didn’t make sense. I didn't like how Gideon kept wanting to avoid harming other vampires when the enemy is a psycho who's leaving him "gifts" in the form of mutilated women.

Now what I did like was the heroine. I really liked her. A lot. Her spirit, her secret, her personality, I feel she really made the book. Her gowns and the reason she made them herself was a nice touch. I also never guessed her past, so the mystery is really good.

This book was enjoyable and easy, you don’t have to be current in her other series to read and like this one. The Immortal Rogues series has something else going for it; it’s Historical Paranormal. My favorite thing about this book is that it’s Regency, it’s vampires, it’s a great mix!

A quick regency vampire romance. Enjoyable and easy.

This is a new author for me, and her books have been on my wishlist for quite some time now. So when I saw that My Lord Vampire was in my local library, I decided to try this one out, especially since it is the first installment in the series. One of my favorite things that I enjoyed about this one, is that not only is a paranormal themed romance, but it is set in a historical setting. Now anyone who even knows my favorite types of books are Historical's. So My Lord Vampire was a delightful surprise for me. I found myself being captivated by this story. I will say that it started out a bit slow, and at first I didn't know if I would like the heroine or not. She seemed to be a bit of a snob at first, but as the story slowly progresses we see that she is anything but. I enjoyed seeing this couple first interaction....and second, third and fourth. LOL There was instant sparks, and I swear, despite the hot hot summer we are having, I almost felt like I was on fire. Such sizzling compatibility that Tristan and Simone had. There is quite a bit of a intense and mysterious aspect to the story that only added to the romance even more. I will say that I can't wait to read more from this author, I don't know why it has taken me so long to read her before now, however her books are going to be bumped up my list. A thrilling tale of passion, adventure and intensity bound to curl your toes.

The story had a good start, but it never seemed to get off the ground. Dragged in parts, I ended up skipping paragraphs. Normally I wouldn’t finish a book that doesn’t keep my interest, but since this is only about 150 ebook pages (and I was hoping something would happen) I finished it.

I’m a big fan of Alexandra Ivy, but this was not my cup of tea.

There was something missing in this book. It was well written but it wasn’t as good as her other series.
It wasn’t bad, I liked it well enough. I would say that it lacked substance.

Lady Gilbert, Simone's life was going along as she planned. Her party invitations were the most sought after invitations in London. She was very selective about who she invited. Men from all ages did their best to entice the young widow to their side. Gideon was once again thrust back into the mortal world. After 200 years, he was able to feel the desires, passions and emotions once again. He was sent by the Council to protect one of the three maidens who held a part of the Medallion. He never dreamed that Simone would be so beautiful and desirable though. Together Simone and Gideon must stop one of the renegade vampires from the Veil.

Historical romance with a twist. I like it!! The story seems to be a little lightweight until you get further into the book. Then you learn all the secrets and stories behind the scenes. Well told and not so deep and dark you can't relate to it, this book gives you a nice vacation from the norm. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

I didn't find anything wrong. It was an easy read and fun to see how things turned out.

I gave this one 5 out of 5 books because I'm liking me some vampire stories.

Blah blah blah, vampire hungering for a woman who he wants to possess blah blah

I really loved the Guardians of eternity series by Alexandra Ivy. It has action, adventure and some romance sprinkled in.

This was different. It was slow and it contains one of the patterns I can't stand in vampire romance: Alpha male, trying to control and dominate the damsel. He wasn't too obvious about it, but it still bugged me

This is the first of a trilogy. Of course if it's by Ms. Ivy I have to read it. I wasn't disappointed. Gideon Ravel who hasn't been among humans for many centuries is sent to protect Simone, Lady Gilbert. He and two of his brethren have been charged to make sure powerful Vampire traitors from beyond the veil do't get position of an ancient amulet.

Nefri the Queen of the Vampire's had separated it into three pieces and had put them around three maidens necks. They couldn't be taken from the maidens they could only be given willingly. Ancient vampires have many tricks and Lady Simone will die if Gideon can't get her trust.
Lady Simone is a beautiful woman with secrets of her own and doesn't trust easily especially the beautiful stranger that just appeared into her life.

My Thoughts

Alexandra Ivy’s first novel in the Immortal Rogues series is a passionate tale of good vs. evil. Two hundred years ago, the Vampires moved from the mortal plane to live Behind the Veil – a place created where vampires could live in peace and safety and not be plagued with basic urges or bloodlust.

The greatest vampire of all, Nefri, created the Veil using an ancient Medallion. Since the Medallion is so powerful and could also be used for many purposes and even to destroy the Veil, she hid its whereabouts by separating it into three parts and giving each one to three maidens on earth to protect. Those maidens had no idea the powerful artifact they were protecting. They only knew that it was a gift from a gypsy woman who told them never to part with it.

Since the vampires considered themselves superior to mortals, it was assumed that no vampire would want to go live in the mortal world. The Medallion should have been safe. However, three vampires who were unhappy with the restricted life in the Veil escaped and fled to the mortal world. The Vampire Council was certain the traitors would seek out the Medallion and if discovered, would give them power to destroy the Veil and much worse.

The Council decided to send three vampires (Gideon, Lucien & Sebastian) to protect the maidens that were guarding the Medallions, capture the traitors and either convince them to return to the Veil or kill them if necessary - as long as the Medallions were protected.

The first story in the series revolves around Gideon and Simone – one of the guardians of the Medallion.

________________________________________

Simone is part of London’s elite society and the wealthy widow of Lord Gilbert. She has many suitors and has managed to evade them all with no intention of becoming attached. Despite her icy façade, she is actually very nice. Throughout the novel, we know she has a secret that could destroy her and I found myself hoping no one ever finds out what it is so she would be safe.

Gideon is our gorgeous hero that is arrogant in thinking he is above mortals since he is not burdened with silly human passions and desires. Until he meets Simone. She is not at all what he expected and challenges him at every turn. Since the story is told in third person, we get to see inside his head as well and I was glad to see that Simone was getting to him as much as he was she.

The author has created a great hero and heroine and developed them artfully so that we cared about what happened to them. Besides Gideon, Simone and Tristan (the villain), there were very few other characters involved in the story. And really, we didn’t see much depth to the villain. We only know that he wanted power but not really his motives. The story and plot could have been enriched if it had more supporting characters.

Bottom Line
If you’re looking for a well-written easy read with good characters, this will work for you. Ivy is an expert at delivery and detail, and this historical PNR keeps interest and makes you care about what happens with the characters. Despite its simplicity in characters, it is a good read. Even though I’ve only rated it a 3, I’m still anxious to read Book #2 – My Lord Eternity - when it comes out in December 2012.

Happy Reading!!

MY LORD VAMPIRE (Immortal Rogues #1) by Alexandra Ivy
(originally published in 2003 under the author name: Debbie Raleigh)

MY LORD VAMPIRE by Alexandra Ivy is the February 2012 re-issue of her original work released under the author name Debbie Raleigh. In the trilogy, 3 vampires are placed in a precarious position in the moral realm, to protect and defend the ‘human’ females in possession (1/3 each) of a powerful magical Medallion. My Lord Vampires is Gideon Ravel and Lady Simone Gilbert’s story.

Gideon Ravel is one of three vampires commissioned to locate and protect (one of the three) medallions placed in the care of human females in the mortal realm. Hidden behind the “Veil” for over 200 years, vampires no longer hunt or feed from humans. But rogue vampires have started to cross between the realms in search of new blood and power. And the power of the Medallion is the lure. But the heat between Gideon and his target is unexpected and unwelcome. He is in the mortal world to protect and defend, not to become emotionally involved with a beautiful human female.

Lady Simone Gilbert is a woman desired by many men in the Ton (upper class society of historical England). Wealthy, beautiful and intriguing, Simone has been labeled the ‘Wicked Temptress’- although titles are not necessarily earned or merited. And Simone buries a secret or two so deep she would die before revealing the knowledge or source. But a recent social function has introduced the mysterious Gideon Ravel and he too, has some secrets he is not willing to share with Lady Simone.

Tristan is a rogue vampire who has crossed the ‘Veil’ into the mortal realm. The lure of the Medallion has blinded Tristan to the orders of the Council. Uncaring and without conscience, Tristan intends to reek havoc amongst the humans, hoping to distract Gideon Ravel from his charge-the Lady Gilbert. But Tristan did not count on Gideon becoming personally involved with his assignment. But secrets have a way of surfacing and blackmail becomes the weapon of choice, when Tristan makes an offer to Simone that could ruin her reputation amongst the elite of England’s high society.

My Lord Vampire is an easy read. There is no sex, foul language and the violence is minimal (as minimal as a vampire novel allows). The attraction between the couple is evident from the start, but both refuse to give in to their desires or the heat of the moment. The relationship is slow to build, but in the end, the pleasure of the HEA is not unexpected or unwelcome.

This book was previously published under Alexandra Ivy's other name Deborah Raleigh in 2003. You can for sure tell the difference between this work and her "Guardians of Eternity" series. There is no comparison. I did like this book but it is not near as captivating as her newer series.
The story begins with Gideon Ravel, a vampire who is one of three men chosen to leave "the Veil" and seek the woman who hold a powerful amulet. If this amulet is given away freely by the woman who holds it there will be disastrous results. Gideon finds the holder of the amulet, who is Simone or Lady Gilbert. She is also known to the Ton as "The Wicked Temptress" and she gives Gideon a surprise with her determination, sensuality, and even her stubborness. He becomes so taken with her and she with him, that they develop an emotional bond that strengthens as time goes on. Simone is being stalked by an evil vampire who will do everything in his power to get his hands on the amulet and destroy Simone in the process. Gideon becomes extremely protective over her and he hopes that she will trust him enough to help her overcome the villian. What Gideon doesn't know is that Simone has a secret of her own. Will he eventually discover it, and when he does will it drive the couple apart or keep them close and working together?
The story has a great plot and it sets us up for the next two books in the trilogy as well. We don't get to meet the other two vampires and the two other women holding the amulets but they are mentioned. The writing is cleanly written and very descriptive and flows nicely. I was never bored and I enjoyed the interactions between Gideon and Simone. I was a bit disappointed in the lack of sex in the book. I do enjoy a good love scene; but sadly this book did not have any. The story did have some sexual tension, but that is as far as that went! I will read the next two reissues when they come out; but truthfully Alexandra Ivy's newer books are the ones that hold my affection the most! It is plain to see that she has come a long way in her writing, and it was good back then; but now she is 100% better!

Simone, Lady Gilbert, is happy with her London home. Once, for twenty three years, she had been isolated and never thought she would be the Lady she is today. Centuries have passed since Gideon Ravel has had human contact. Now, he has to seduce Simone, Lady Gilbert, in order to get an amulet that is very important to the balance of power in the world.

There are some who would kill Simone to get the amulet or worse. She will have to learn to trust Gideon before she can give him the amulet. Gideon must get the amulet before it’s too late for both of them.

My Lord Vampire, the first book in the Immortal Rogues trilogy by Alexandra Ivy, is a Victorian romance with a twist. Ms. Ivy has thrown magic and paranormal elements into this book which makes this historical take many twists and turns, which I loved.

Gideon hasn’t been around humans for a very long time and he doesn’t have much patience for them either. Learning to act genteel again is almost comical for him. He pulls it off, but just barely; it’s hard to keep the hunter out of the man when it’s been bred into him for so long.

Simone is a woman with street smarts. I liked that even though she’s in an era where women have little to no power, she’s smart, clever and wise beyond the time period she has been born into. She’s actually perfect for Gideon, if they can just stop dancing around the truth long enough to trust each other with their secrets. And there are many secrets!

I really loved the mixing of historical and paranormal elements in this book and I’m really looking forward to the next book in this trilogy.

This book is about a girl named Simone. Her name isn't really Simone she stole her dead sisters name. The girl was always abused by her sister and her sisters husband. So when they were all going on a vacation bandits came and killed her sister and her sisters husband and stole some valuable items. So the girl being alone and poor stole her sisters name and went to live in a huge famous mansion. Simone threw parties because she got what she wanted for being beautiful but things go wrong when vampires come to steal a pendant she got from a gypsy. Then she falls in love with a vampire because he didn't do what she wanted even though she was very pretty. I really liked this book because I like vampires. Of someone wanted to read this book they should like fantasies and mystery and romance. This book has a lot of mystery and romance.

The premise started ok, but

It's interesting that there's . Also, the Regency England setting makes this a bit different to the usual vampire romance. Overall, an OK read.

This book was is a 2003 release under Alexandra Ivy's name, originally published under the author name of Debbie Raleigh. The voice is definitely not as mature as Alexandra Ivy. I had the following 2 books of the re-released series of My Lord Eternity and My Lord Immortality listed as wanted on PaperbackSwap and SwapTree, but after reading this one, I deleted them. I did not finish this book. I got about halfway through, and decided that there was no point in finishing it if I was saying to myself every 5 pages, "man, this is bad."

Rerelease with different author named

I originally purchased this novel in 2003 when it came out in paperback under the Nom de Plume' of Debbie Raleigh as the author. This last week I discovered that it has been released in Kindle format except the author is now listed as Alexandra Ivy. At no place did I find mention that it is the same novel, but the plot line and character names are identical.

As I grow older and weaker in the eyes I have been replacing some books with kindle editions where I can expend the font and change styles to make reading easier. So I took the leap and bought the kindle version which confirms it actually is the same novel published under a different author name in 2003.

Back in 2003 I bought a dozen vampire novels starting with Carmilla and Dracula, the two which made vampire stories a recognized genre of horror fiction, and ending with My Lord Vampire. Vampire stories range from vivid to boring depending on the skill of the author and what rules they use for the vampires powers and vulnerabilities.

For example the 19th century classic vampires were nocturnal and slept by day, but were not particularly harmed by daylight. The vulnerability to sunshine was a Hollywood movie invention to make vampire hunting more believable as a character occupation. Also shape shifting, becoming a wolf, bat or even a mist varies from author to author as well.

Ivy's vampires strike a compromise. So long as they have not feasted on human blood they are immune to sunlight, but they are also limited in their raw strength and ability to change shape. The ability to hypnotize their victims by peering deep into their eyes seems to be the only universal quality.

In this novel an ancient vampire sorceress has divided her most powerful artifact into three pieces and given each piece to a carefully chosen young human woman. Three power hungry vampires have left the home of the vampires to steal the pieces of the artifact and gain their powers and three hero vampires have been sent to protect the maidens. This novel is the story of the first medallion made from the artifact. Most of the graphic horror and all of the sex are set off the page and left to the readers imagination making this book suitable for relatively young high school age readers and older.

I liked it enough as a paperback to purchase the kindle version. The author is proficient, the scenes are descriptive and the rules of vampirism in this setting are explained. If you buy this book you already know the formula by heart when you get to the tall dark stranger meets blonde bombshell aspect so don't complain about it following the standard formula for a romance adventure story. It is a well written fun little romp, don't expect ground breaking literature and just enjoy it for what it clearly is.

Randomly stumbled upon this going through some ebooks with the word "LORD" in the title. Yes, yes, for the reading challenge I am a part of. This sounded pretty good and I could use some PNR with a vamp. It's been a minute.

The story follows Gideon Ravel and Simone. It has been centuries since Gideon has dwelled among the mortals. Now, he must infiltrate society in order to can the trust of Simone. She has possession of an amulet that has unimaginable power and she has zero idea. He is blindsided by his lust for her. To society, Simone is a sophisticated and worldly widow. The truth, though, would ruin her.

I wish I could say I enjoyed this, but I flat out didn't. I barely cared about Simone or Gideon or even the story. Sometimes I can look past my dislike of the characters and enjoy the story. Or vice versa. I love the characters but the story is meh. Here? I was just bored.

The beginning had promise and I was intrigued, but then after a bit I was yawning.

The story seemed to drag on and on.

The characters were meh. I didn't "hate" them, but they felt really distant to me.

I did finish this just so I could get credit for my reading challenge. If I didn't have the challenge, I would've DNFed it I think.

However, I will say that I was intrigued (a small bit) by learning what Simone's secret was and learning more about the amulet.

In the end, not for me. There was a glimmer of interest in wanting to know Simone's secret and that amulet. The beginning few pages had promise. Other than that, I felt bored by reading this. I'll give it 2 stars.

Centuries have passed since Gideon Ravel dwelled among humans. Now he must infiltrate the cream of London society to earn the trust of one woman. Simone, Lady Gilbert, possesses an amulet of unimaginable power, and no concept of the threat that surrounds her. The ton's gossip prepared him for her beauty and wit. But he is blindsided by her barely disguised sensuality and his growing need to possess her. . .
None of the idle aristocrats who vie for Simone's attentions know about her past. To them, she is the sophisticated, worldly widow known as the "Wicked Temptress." The truth would ruin her, and she has never been tempted to reveal it until now. Yet beneath Gideon's bold, black-eyed stare is a hunger that demands satisfaction and complete surrender. . .and a secret far more dangerous than her own
Not a bad first book. I liked that it was a historical. I thought Simone was a fairly good heroine and Gideon a typical vampire. I felt the characters could have been better fleshed out and the ending was rather anticlimactic, but overall enjoyed the series and will continue reading.

Relieved and excited by My Lord Vampire! I was extremely close to getting rid of the 19 books I recently purchased of Alexandra Ivy's. This is the fifth book in a week I've read of Ivy's. The three prior to My Lord Vampire being less than desirable. One being, my first ever book to put down with no intentions of ever reading another horribly written word!
This book has momentarily saved my prior horrible opinion of this authors ability to write!! Great character building, good spacing of desired information on character(s) background/history, gradual building of relationship, with believable interactions between the two main characters.

One irritating fact that seems to be a common issue for this publisher/book company...they seem to assume the readers won't notice the descriptions of the characters and the models chosen for covers do not resemble each other in the least!!! Out of five books I've read...none of the covers match descriptions of characters in the book. Sad.

i want to appologize in advance for the following pet peeves.

1. You are not told the approx time frame of the book.
2. You can only assume time from from the reference to almacks and carriages etc.
3. The fact that the VAMPIRE GOES OUT IN THE DAY TIME.
He goes out for fittings, taylor, .....
4.THEY GO OUT FOR A PICNIC, A VAMPIRE GOES OUT FOR A PICNIC???
5. his going out during the day is not explained until chapter 10.
6.LACK OF ROMANCE.
7. LACK OF ANY MYSTERY.

i don't know but it might have helped if stephanie laurens, mary balogh or catherine coulter could have consulted on this.

I think I'm in a reading slump. This book was slow, I've experienced some historical romance books being slow, so I get that. As for a vampire historical romance, I thought it would have been better. I felt like we were just thrown into the plot, I was like what is going on? The romance was super underdeveloped and fast paced. UGH. Also hardly any romance. This book needed more details and depth for me to care about the characters and to flesh out the story.

Fun and sexy... without the spice

This was a pretty fun story. I liked the back and forth between the 2 characters. There was a bit of steam... buuuuuuuut I was hoping for actual spice. Great for people that want a steamy vampire adventure.
