Okay this was better. It had Maz and Dex and no hand of the open path that phase ii is so obsessed with…yet.

With the new phase of the High Republic starting we have also been graced with a new phase of comics to complement the storylines and enrich the overall plot.

Considering how short this new phase will be, I don't know how much these new issues will expand or add to the world but I am always curious, and ready, to read more Star Wars.

It's like that we find ourselves following the story of Sav Malagan a Padawan with a particularly strong connection to the force and a growing restlessness with the Jedi Order that drives her to find refuge in the bowels of Maz Kanata's castle.

The concept that is being explored with her is pretty interesting and I quite like it; however, as interesting as that one concept is I have a hard time liking the main character.

Regardless, plot-wise, this story seems like it'll be a ton of fun, and, well, we will have more time to expend with Maz and that is pretty great in itself.

Let's go on a space pirate's adventure!

Back in 2020 my podcast Delayed Replay, I thought it'd be fun for Dexter Jettster to appear in The High Republic Phase 1, but now here he is! And I'm glad we're getting more of Maz Kanata's adventures in the past. It's cool seeing a new character trying to be a pirate.

"You are without a doubt the worst pirate I’ve ever heard of"

Relaunch of the "High Republic Adventures" series starts as a small letdown. Sav Malagan entertained me in another High Republic story but that's also the problem here: Whoever read the other story kinda knows how this new series is going to end (PROBABLY ofc I'm up for surprises along the way). Besides her rebellious side against the Jedi order Sav's whole personality consists of "I WANT...". The entrance of a fan favorite character saved the two stars rating in an otherwise boring story. Decent yet mediocre artwork. Let's hope for the other issues to deliver. 3/5
