Graveyard Girls is such a fun middle grade series! Scream for the Camera jumps right in where book one left off, but I think you could pick this book up and dive right in. This read was a perfect mix of mystery, spooky elements, and friendship.

The pacing of this book is quick and there is always something going on to keep your attention. This book switches between multiple points of view allowing for each character to get their spotlight moment.

The spooky parts of this book were kind of gory, but still age appropriate for middle graders. The fun, humor, and drama help balance out this horror read.

Thank you to the publisher for sending me a copy for an honest review.

“Come, ghost,
Come, monster,
Come, devilkin,
Tonight’s story is about to begin.”
The Graveyard Girls are trying to make contact with Silas Hoke, Misery Falls infamous murderer. The mystery surrounding him was amped up when they recently found his grave. His empty grave.
A missing corpse that had yet to be un-missing.
They tried reaching him via Ouija board and they made contact, just not with Silas.

I like all of the Graveyard Girls but enjoy spending time with them even more when they’re all together. That’s when we get to hear their scary stories, after all. The story in this book is photography based, ‘Scream for the Camera’, and it’s a fun, creepy one.

Each girl is dealing with something difficult in this book.
Something weird is happening.
Sophie has a crush. Although I’m not anti bad boy, I was very anti the way he was treating Sophie and not the hugest fan of how this part of the story resolved.

Gemma is busy working off her G-Tone mistake.

Whisper is on the hunt for a grave robber. Her investigation begins at home.

Frannie dreams of stardom. It’s a shame about the theatre curse.

Zuzu’s old friends don’t know about her new friends yet but that’s the least of her problems. It’s very possible that she’s possessed.

I love the focus on friendship and the overarching mystery, which I’m guessing will continue over the course of the series. Gemma’s story was my favourite in this book.

I would have absolutely adored this series as a kid and, to be honest, probably would have found it scary at times. I’m keen to see how the individual stories and the mystery surrounding Silas Hoke play out.

Favourite no context quote:
“We don’t have time to be eaten by a plant!”

Middle school drama mixes with spooks, chilling moments, mystery, and a wonderful dose of friendship for a fun read.

The tale takes off right away, and while building from where book one left off, it's not too hard to sink right into this one. I would, however, recommend starting at the beginning of this series so all the information sits.

These girls might have a bit of experience thanks to the first adventure, but there's so much they aren't ready for...and that hits even in the first pages. The switch between girls and their perspectives runs smoothly and is never confusing. Instead, each personality shines and gives insight into what's going on. This is a fun group with tons of spunk.

Edging into spooky, there's a well-balanced mix of thrills, humor, and drama. It edges on scary but manages to remain in the middle grade range. So, those who like creeps and surprises will enjoy it. Friendship also rings high for this group, even when the girls have their own issues to deal with. Of course, the supernatural world is best to handle when they stick together.

It's a fun read with a plot which runs smoothly along. And surprises are guaranteed. I received an ARC and enjoyed the dive into the ghostly realm.

A month ago, the Graveyard girls discovered the infamous killer Silas Hoke’s grave was empty. They’re still wondering what happened when strange things start happening. Gemma breaks her mother’s good luck charm, Whisper sees a skull in spilled milk, Frankie curses the theatre, Sophie’s phone disappears, and Zuzu is possessed by Ginny Baker, who was Silas’s murder victim. The girls have to figure out why these strange things keep happening, while also searching for Silas Hoke’s body and dealing with the everyday challenges of being a preteen.

This was another great Graveyard Girls book! I really like the way the characters are developed. The narrative alternates between each of the five girls, but they are all distinct characters with different lives and challenges. One of the girls in the first and second books tells her own spooky story, which is included in the book. It’s a fun little bonus story that’s connected to the main plot. This story ended on a very good cliffhanger so I hope there will be more books in the series!

Scream for the Camera is a great middle grade story for spooky season!

Thank you Union Square Kids for sending me a copy!

Both me and my kid started reading it and we quickly realized that we should read the first book in the series also.
So, we put this one aside. Got the first book. Read the first book. Enjoyed it a lot. And got back to reading this book.
And we both enjoyed it!
The book is kind of scary. Kind of gory. But very gripping, exciting, fast-paced and absolutely age-appropriate despite it being a horror read.

This one might not have been as spooky or engaging as the first, but I still really enjoyed it. The characters made up for any plot issues I had. I can't wait until the next one to see what happens next!

The mystery continues. It’s been a month since the Graveyard Girls discovered Silas Hoke’s empty grave. Their mission: find out who stole the body. But who can focus on that when there is a curse to break, a crush to date, a store to save, and a ghost to exorcise? Yes, you’ve heard that right. Life isn’t easy when you are 13, but imagine adding the supernatural to the game. Through the eyes of everyone - this is a multi-perspective book - we experience all the individual struggles these wonderful characters have to navigate while keeping their friendship alive, and maybe solving the scary mystery of the missing body of a killer.

I love how different all the girls are in this book and how they unite to form this extraordinary friendship. These connections we forge throughout adolescence teach us to be who we are while accepting others for who they are and how to come together to have each other’s backs. Because life is hard, and we can use every help we can get. All the challenges the Graveyard Girls face - except maybe the grave robber - are relevant, and many girls will see themselves in these characters. Although not for the sensitive mind, the second book in the Graveyard Girls series is an action-packed, fast-paced, and creepy fun read that will become a favourite in many teen girls’ home libraries.

Ps.: Zuzu should consider seeing a psychiatrist…
