Sweet and funny but thoughtful, Lee Dong-gun's story was originally released as a webtoon with episodes appearing over a period close to five years. The central figure Kim Yumi is an office worker in her 30s who's been brought low by a disastrous relationship but now three years later she's ready to try dating again. Her story is told both externally and, in a wonderfully quirky twist, internally through the actions of her various cells. The cells are characters in their own right from Yumi's once-triumphant but now battered Love cell to demanding, giant Hunger. The cells live together in an enclosed city where they debate how to deal with Yumi's responses to the people and events around her, sometimes their actions are frowned upon by the collective - at the outset Fashion has been confined to solitary for prompting Yumi to buy an outfit that led to a cascade of purchases that drained her savings.
Although on the surface this is very much a rom com, it's not as strictly focused on romance as might be expected, it's as much about a broader process of working out a way forward in life, what desires are important, what specific decisions might lead to. The narrative follows Yumi through various tangled relationships as she works out how to have a healthy relationship with herself, one which then leads to drastic changes. Lee's brightly-coloured artwork is uncluttered and easy to follow. I'm a huge fan of the two-season, K-drama adaptation of the same name, and this suffered a little by comparison partly because the contrast between the live-action scenes featuring Yumi and the animated ones featuring the cells works so well in the K-drama version. But the K-drama also tweaked Lee's ideas and left out elements that resolved Yumi's journey and I wanted to find out what happened to her later - these scenes might have been included in a third season but that's definitely not happening now.
I really loved this series. It has just ended and I was in complete tears. I will miss the fun characters, the drama, the humor, all of it. This was such a creative way to tell a story and lay the character's feelings bare. The author did such a good job explaining motivation for each character and pulling you into their own personal view. I will miss this series sincerely.

This was one wholesome webtoon! So realistic yet funny and so engaging! I love the Cells so much like will they ever stop being precious!? 😭 I firmly believe my prime cell is my hunger cell fused with sleeping cell after reading this webtoon.
We all shouldn't forget that the title of this manhwa is 'Yumi's Cells'
Yumi is the main protagonist of this novel. It wasn't about her and Woong or her and Babi but mainly just about her.
I definitely understand why things turned out the way they did with Babi. It's a bit disappointing because:
However I understand why Yumi decided to call things off.
I honestly don't think there was one victim or one person to blame. Obviously, the part timer arc was a catalyst but to be honest, their relationship just didn't seem that fleshed out. It felt like they were both trying to show each other only perfect sides and they weren't really being honest or forthcoming with each other about how they felt.
Anyway.... It's been great so far and I appreciate the realism that Donggun is trying to portray in his manhwa. Though I'm a bit said, I'm also looking forward to seeing what Donggun has in store for Yumi.
유미야, 고생했고 수고했어요 ♥️
------------------------------------------------ Read up till Chapter 349
So...the author is going on a break
This is one of the few mangas I continue to keep up with. It's so light and easy to read.
Yumi's relationship with Babi is still going strong and and I love who they are with each other. We've been seeing a few shots of Woong here and there and he is looking finnnnnneeeeee. [Why do exes always get a glow up after you've broken up?].
Overall, the quality is pretty consistent. Looking forward to future updates. ------------------------------------------------
Read up till Chapter 303
I'm really liking Yumi's relationship with Babi. I love that she's been able to look at her past relationship with Woong and learn from the mistakes she made to prevent then from happening with Babi. It shows huge character growth.
It was hard seeing Woong feel regretful over the break up and even though a small part of me still ships Yumi and Woong, I'm very happy that he has prioritized himself and will be moving on.

I love the manhwa. The cells are so adorable and it's really funny to see them try to fulfil their individual agendas. It's still ongoing so I don't know how things will end but I hope Yumi stays with Yu Babi and also maintains her friendship with Ida.
After much consideration, I don’t want to finish catching up as of now. The main plot is going in a way I don’t like. I put a lot of emotional investment into this and now I’m just done. It was fun and really interesting, until this new event happened.
I enjoyed seeing life not only through Yumi’s eyes, but through the eyes of her cells, too. I would say that it’s a mixture of the movie “Inside Out,” the anime/manga series “Cells at work,” and a contemporary rom-com.
The art really reminds me of what I’ve briefly seen of Astroboy. It’s really cartoony. I found it cute and quirky.
Really enjoyable and engaging. The characters are very relatable and the fact that we get an insight into how they make the decisions they do (the constant arguments between the cells) is amazing. Yumi's Cells is humorous and really enjoyable. Throughout the reading of Yumi's Cells, I kept on wondering about the division of labour within my brain cells and the kind of conversations they would have in different situations that I have to navigate. Just the concept is hilarious and it is executed extremely well.
I read this in the webtoon app. Though I was not with this from the start(2015), I joined the wagon a 3-4 years ago and I fucking cried when this ended. It's a cute story about Yumi and her cells. Her cells are assigned to various tasks and they have a mind of their own. There's fashion cell, love cell, hunger cell, writer cell, etc., Who doesn't like seeing the inner workings of our brain represented through cute cells? Watching Yumi adulting, facing various hurdles in her life with a couple or more love stories mixed in? And did I mention the art is so fucking cute?
This hits too close to home cuz my cells be screaming GIRL YOUVE BEEN DOING THE SAME THINGS SINCE COVID STARTED TOO😭😭😭 ~@ chapter idk Will circle back later.
Started reading this because I was too impatient for the adaptation and fell in love with the cuteness. Yumi’s Cells is a manhwa centered around Yumi, and her experiences and growth when it comes to her relationships, her career, and overall development as a person. Yumi goes through plenty of upheavals in her life but manages to deal with them with the help of her cells. Told from Yumi’s point of view, we are introduced to many characters who you come to love, be it her romantic partners or her work colleagues and friends.
This was a great read overall, when I was done with it I felt bittersweet at having to say goodbye to Yumi. It’s mainly humour centric, but covers various existential crisis an adult might go through. Read this if you want something light hearted and fun!
I started reading this because I was bored, but I fell completely in love with it! I love how Yumi can be so relatable and how her cells are just completely adorable!
One of the best comics I've ever read. Hands down a really great interpretation of realistic life with all its ups and downs in relationships and career problems, and generally with finding ones way in life and also finding ones own true self. What made it all even better was the quirky and unique addition of the 'cells'. Basically imagine Side by side panels of the characters as they are, and then bts scenes of the characters' cells (all personality trait cells and body part cells) functioning. So we have rational cell who tries to see logic, emotional cell, love cell, writer cell, a manners cell, and even a cheapskate cell who is stingy on spending too much money. And many many more other cells, with a different variety of the dominant ones in different persons. Sort of like inside out, the movie, but better, dare I say.
Vaya que leer Yumi's Cells fue toda una odisea. Al principio solo queria leerlo por que van a sacar un drama sobre la historia y queria estar informada sobre la historia, aparte que en la reseña en la página si me que había prendido mi interés en la historia. Pensé que iba a tener similitud con Cells at Work.
Gracias
I read from ep 1-512 end. The story is about yumi's life where she went through to find the perfect guy in her relationship n there are times she went through someone she meet & the people she knew. She used to go to her ex - boyfriend to Wong to babi - finally shin dude. ShinXyumi make cute relationship together.

I have started to read this webtoon from mid last year. The synopsis was interesting enough. Functioning life at a cellular level.
In the beginning, the art was meh. But as the story progressed, so did the art. Now, it's so cute and pretty. So refreshing to look at.
The story was in one word R E A L I S T I C. Very realistic, simple yet complex. The story basically revolves around Yumi's love life with arcs of her job, dream and ambitions here and there. The story is never overdramatic. Light-hearted, VERY funny. The cells are so entertaining. My most favourite ones are Naughty Cell, Silky Cell, Emotional and Rational Cell, and Hunger Cell. And of course there were The Endorphins.
This webtoon progresses over 5.5 years(even though I have been only reading it for a year and a half). So you can imagine the time that has been put into this. Over this period, the story developed, the art developed but mostly YUMI DEVELOPED. Her development was so good to see. It's like the readers grew up with her. We got so many lessons from her(and her cells!). And not only from her, we learn a little something from almost all of the characters. Woong, Babi, Ruby, Ctrl Z and of course Soonrok. They were such lovely yet deep characters. But the biggest thing of all is that they are all humans. So realistic and human like. This can be such a relatable story to so many people. (Especially people who love food!). The progression of the story is so natural that you would feel like you are going through Yumi's daily life but with a twist. With an insight to her cells.
This was such a fun and heartwarming story to read. It may be a but long, but trust me, it's worth it. Once you will start reading, you won't be able to stop. So give it a try in LINE WEBTOON.
All in all, an adorable, slice-of-life webtoon about a current office worker/aspiring novelist and her brain cells. The author has a good handle on making the comic relatable and has a tendency to troll as well. The character development makes you care and grow attached to the MC. At least it was hard not to for me given the 500+ episodes where you follow Yumi as she chases her dreams, her heart, and her food cravings. I liked that it was realistic in the sense that your first love won't always be your last and finding fame isn't something that falls in your lap. Although it's one of my favorite webtoons, the lowered rating is because I was a bit disappointed that the later episodes didn't quite have the same level of resonance with me.*Minor Spoiler* I felt that the arc with her husband, Soonrok, wasn't as long as Woong and Babi's. I wanted more time to root for the final couple and while I liked his character, I didn't quite feel as attached to him as Babi, for example.

I remember reading this just before webtoon made it a daily pass. I remember binge reading it before the date since a lot of people recommended it as a classic webtoon that you have to read. In the end, I wasn’t disappointed one bit. The author is very good storyteller that I ended up not being able to guess many things and made me love the characters. I never thought I would find myself loving yumi’s different cells but they all ended up being precious to me in the end. The story also has a lot of great messages in it which I think makes it definitely worth the read. Topics such as relationships and work are brought up. The story is a wonderful slice of life or coming of age story. I just wished there was a physical English release of the comics because I would definitely buy it if there is one :)
i love yumi, this is a special story where you're not viewing the proagonist from a 3rd person pov, but it feels like you're in the passenger's seat, and get to experience every little thing in detail.
i appreciate the thorough character exploration, the sense of humor, the relatability of even the pettiest or most pathetic feelings, the sometimes blunt reality checks.... even the author trolling and breaking the fourth wall. but above all, i love that it reminded us many times that this was a story about yumi, and centering it around other characters that surround her is an inaccurate reading. it yanked us back to reality.
a clever series that made me laugh out loud and sob my eyes out, i did not even want to finish it because it was hard to part from yumi
I can't believe it AGAIN! Yumi's Cells ended....It ended ont the same week(Dec16) as Siren's Lament and Freaking Romance. It was a roller coaster ride with many swirls and heights. There are 511 episodes and it seem alot but the each episode is short. There are many sad things and also happy things. At first the artstyle seem bad but as the years progress the artstyel got much better and "prettier". I like both artstyles though^^
I need to try this again. But I just lost interest as the series went on. Started out great, but then the constant relationship drama, Yumi's personality, and nonsense got to me. I think I am not the audience for this. The artist skills really improved as the comic developed! That is amazing to see. But, I just stopped caring about the characters.
Yumi's Cells is a wonderful webtoon that never fails to lighten my mood. It is reminiscent of the film Inside Out, with inner beings ("cells") representing different emotions like anger, hunger, love, anxiety, and more. These beings debate with one another over Yumi's love life-- what actions she should take next and why-- in a humorous manner.
