While this is Tanner and Eva's story, Becky was the star of the show. Becky is Tanner's daughter and her sweet personality shines through the cheerless reservations that Tanner and Eva each hold about moving forward in life. Becky brings people together with her lightness and purity and is the bonding link for the two main characters. With that said, all the characters were well drawn but I'm not fully convinced of the romantic connection between Tanner and Eva. Something was missing to take it from friendship and respect for one another to attraction and love for each other.

The Florida setting was a nice change from the usual country setting in Amish stories as well as the associated jobs that such a locale supports.

I see three possible avenues the series could take with secondary characters but I am most looking forward to seeing if Ramona will be featured in upcoming installments.

Eva Miller comes to her aunt Ramona in Pinecraft, Florida because of her health. The doctor has prescribed fresh air and sunshine which she is not getting where she lives in Campion Creek Pennsylvania. When she left there it had been snowing. Eva sees this is an opportunity to break free of her mother‘s smothering love and gain some independence.
Almost immediately she starts a job working part time for Amish shop owner Tanner Dawson and ends up looking after his eight year old daughter Becky at times as well. She doesn’t tell her mother any of this because Eva knows she will worry and try and tell her it’s all too much for her and demand she come home. But Eva is feeling a lot better since she came to Florida. Allergies and sniffles seem to have disappeared and so have the panic attacks. Tanner Dawson is an overprotective single father reminding Eva of her mother‘s treatment of her. But then Eva begins to see there is another side to him and she begins to care not just for Tanner and Becky but she desires to stay longer in this community in Pinecraft.
This is a sweet and enjoyable read. At times some of Tanner’s reasoning times leaves a bit to be desired. However, both main characters are complex, likable, and easy to empathise with. Aenti Ramona is a sweetie and so is Eva‘s friend Teresa. Also Martha who works for and helps Tanner. I love the sense of community with Tanner‘s neighbours and family.
Predictable to a certain extent but engaging because the characters got to me. Becky is an absolute sweetheart.

Pinecraft Refuge is definitely an uplifting story. Lenora Worth has done an excellent job with this book. I just happen to come across it, while looking through my library's Amish Books. I'm so glad I picked it & read it!!
This story involves a young woman in her early 20's, named Eva,, who has suffered from health issues, since she was a very young girl. She suffers from respiratory/breathing issues, along with becoming tired, as well.
Her doctor decides that it would do her some goid to go south to Pinecraft, where it's warm, since it's cold in Campton Creek, where she currently lives with her mother. Her aunt, mom's sister, lives in Pinecraft, so it makes perfect sense for her to go & get away, as well as to heal some per doctor orders.
Eva gets on a bus and heads to Florida. She arrives around 15 hrs later after their stops, during the trip, around 1 a.m. She wanders around the bus station looking for her aunt Ramona, but doesn't see her. Instead, her aunt sent a friend to pick Eva up. She sent Tanner Dawson. Eva & Tanner are both strong willed personalities, that seem to clash right away😂. She thinks Tanner is grumpy and he feels she's rude!
From the 1st day the two of them meet, things get crazy from there, but sorta comical too.
Eva meets another young lady, named Teresa, and they become good friends, and Teresa shows Eva around the Village. This trip is the 1st ever for Eva, and especially by herself. While these 2 are out & about, tgey run across a community board with different posts about events, jobs, and so forth. So, Eva decides to get a part time job so that her aunt Ramona doesn't have to foot her entire bill while she is there. She was kind enough to let her stay, so she figured she should help out by paying for food & other things too. Eva's aunt is such a true blessing for her. She's much different than her mom is. Her mom is a smothering, hovering mom. However, her aunt believes it's because of her health issues, as well as the fact that her dad has passed away when she was young. Eva's mom is a worrier, big time!

***This story is such an amazingly written one with great details, to the point you can picture what you read. I love these type of books. This story revolves around Eva, Ramona, Teresa, Tanner, Tanner's daughter, Becky, Tanner's cousins, who help out, Dawson's Department Store, Ramona's High Tea Business, out of her home, and many, many more things.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK! IF YOU ENJOY A GOOD, CLEAN, AMISH ROMANCE STORY, THEN YOU WILL ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS BOOK❤️❤️.***

PINECRAFT REFUGE by Lenora Worth is the first book in the Pinecraft Seasons series. It’s the fabulous story of Eva Miller, her trip to Pinecraft, FL and her new job working for Tanner Dawson.

Eva Miller’s father died when she was just a toddler. Although Eva’s had allergy problems and had a tendency for a simple cold to develop into much worse, her mother’s been extremely over cautious keeping her inside, away from others and even having Eva miss out on even the normal rumspringa period as a teen. Now an adult, Eva feels smothered by her mother’s well-meaning attentions. When her doctor suggested, after her last bout of illness, that she needed fresh air, sunshine and rest, Eva jumped on the idea of visiting her aenti in Pinecraft. Between her mother’s resistance of her going, her mother’s refusal to go along her, and her aenti’s persuasive arguments, Eva finds herself boarding a bus headed to what she hopes is not only a breath of fresh air, but to some freedom to discover herself. All she really wants is the opportunity to be herself – what God intended her to be.

Tanner Dawson seems to meeting himself coming and going these days what with the operations of his shop – Dawson Department Store, tending to the love of his life – his 8-year-old daughter Becky, and the normal events of life like meals and maintaining a home. Tanner had always loved Becky’s Mom, but her Mom had never loved Tanner. Deborah fell in love with an Englisch police officer who was killed in the line of duty. Deborah had approached Tanner as an Amish girl, pregnant and unmarried knowing he would do right by her by marrying her. Sadly, she died shortly after giving birth leaving Tanner as a single parent to her precious child. In his mind, he is Becky’s Dad and always will be. However, he feels his life’s purpose, other than loving Becky and tending to her needs, is to protect her from rumors and prejudices that would arise if the truth ever came out. He’s determined to stay away from women to avoid having his trampled heart from being further damaged. He’s happy the way his life is. He doesn’t need or want anyone else in his life.

When Eva arrives in Pinecraft, she’s met by Tanner, who had been asked by Eva’s Aenti Ramona to greet her and bring her to her home. The first impressions of each other were somewhat startling. Tanner came off as rude and unwelcoming and Eva surprised Tanner by being so straight forward in her talking. Although not being impressed, Eva couldn’t help but noticing how handsome Tanner was while Tanner definitely made note of Eva’s amazing eyes. When Romona won’t refuse a no to her invitation of Tanner joining them for lunch, Tanner wonders is she is once again up to her matchmaking – none of which have came close to succeeding when it came to him, but Lord knows she’s tried.

Eva loves the sunshine and the new friend she’s made in Teresa. After a few days of exploring the area with her new friend, Eva decides she needs to find a job in order to help her aenti with expenses while she’s staying with her as well as to save some back to help her mother. Imagine her surprise when she steps into the store with the sign in front to find out she’s applying to work with none other than Tanner himself. Determined - she’s not deterred and ends up with the job – a job she loves. Even more so when it leads to including helping take care of Becky. The problem is the more she’s around Tanner the more her feeling seem to grow. However, Tanner throws out so many mixed signals that she can’t tell if he thinks she’s doing a good job or if he’s ready to fire her. His mood swings sure go from one extreme to another.

Will Eva be able to make a go in Pinecraft or will she be sent packing back to Campton Creek, PA? Will her feelings grow for both Becky and Tanner? Can she see a bit of herself in Becky? Will she be able to show the similarities to Tanner so he might not become the overbearing parent he’s headed towards? Will a bout of illness be the end of Eva’s time in Pinecraft when her mother demands her to return home? Will Tanner ever learn that there is no thing as a secret that no one knows about? Is it true that the truth can really sit you free? Is he willing to risk irrevocable damage to his heart by opening up to the idea of allowing someone else into his life? Can Helen, Eva’s Mom, find someone else to direct all her concern to? What does it mean when Helen shows up in Pinecraft? Can Eva figure out where God want’s her to live and bloom?

PINECRAFT REFUGE is a story that pulls you in from the first page and holds you to the last making this a can’t put down book. The characters are believable and you will fall in love with all of them from sweet Becky - who often speaks the words plainly on things others hold back on, Tanner – who comes off as a grumpy man but has a heart as big as all outdoors, and Eva – who only wants to be able to live “her” life - the life God intends for her. Lenora Worth writes a story full of faith and inspiration that will fill your heart and leave you smiling. I, for one, can’t wait to read more stories about the characters that reside in Pinecraft. PINECRAFT REFUGE is most definitely a FIVE star book that I highly recommend to everyone! I dare you to read it and not have your heart tugged, your mind entertained and your spirit lifted.

I love books that feature Pinecraft, Florida and there aren’t that many of them out there so I was thrilled to discover this new series. And over the moon elated to discover it on audible of all places. Not many Love Inspired books make their way into an audio format and I grab up all the ones I can find. It’s usually the Suspense line’s continuity series, so I’m excited to see them branching out. Connie Shabshab’s narration increased my reading enjoyment tenfold.

And what a sweet, compelling love story this is! I could feel Eva’s hope and, honestly, raw courage, to go against her mam’s wishes and take an extended vacation in Florida. There’s such a heartbreaking history between mother and daughter, but, while Eva loves her only parent, she’s craving some independence. Worth captures her wonder and fear perfectly. Sometimes Eva’s spunky nature shines through (like when she’s speaking her mind to Tanner!) and sometimes she wavers with insecurity, ready to second guess all she’s been achieving. And then there’s the pesky attraction to her new boss that she doesn’t know what to do with.

Cue the broody, monosyllabic hero who has endured a world of hurt and doesn’t quite know how to leave it behind. No worries, Eva’s about to show him. 🙂 Love, love, lovvveee, this romance. From the stuttering start to the toe-curling conclusion and all the awkward, funny, infuriating and gasp-out-loud moments in between!

A strong cast of secondary characters, which includes Tanner’s precocious 8-year-old daughter, enhance the story that much more…and provide a solid background for future novels in this series. Lenora Worth can’t write them fast enough for me!

Eva had always been sickly, so at 22, when her doctor says she's need to get from Ohio to some place warm, she heads to Florida to visit her aunt. Once in Florida, she meets Tanner. She doesn't like him at first, though when she finds a job she'd like to apply for, it turns out to be at Tanner's store. The more time she works for him and spends time with him and his daughter, she grows to love both of them. She knows that Becky would love for Eva to be her mother, but she's not sure how Tanner feels about her. She would love to make her permanent home with Tanner and Becky in Florida, but will her mother make her move back to Ohio? Will Tanner admit to his feelings and ask her to stay? I don't read many Amish books, as some I've read seem to have just changed the names of the characters, but this one is definitely a stand out, and I'll read more by Lenora Worth!!

Great story. I love reading about the Pinecraft, Florida Amish. I hope to visit there someday. They sound friendly and willing to acknowledge and even befriend the English that they live around, which is different from the Lancaster Amish who prefer to accept us as tourists but not necessarily as friends. One interesting fact is that Eva has horrible allergies and breathing problems in Pennsylvania. So do I. Since I’ve moved to Fort Lauderdale, FL from Pennsylvania the allergies are almost non existent. My allergy doctor said I’m so much better off away from the pollen and other things in PA that have plagued me my whole life. It’s the first time I’ve seen this fact in a book. Lenora did her research, for sure and certain!

Eva Miller's doctor has prescribed that she goes to Florida to escape the cold weather and help recover her health. While visiting her aunt she decides it is time to gain her independence. She decides to get a job working for Tanner Dawson. As they become closer, she realizes he is hiding important secrets which is important to know as their relationship deepens.

The story is great. The author does a wonderful job pulling you in and making you grow to care about the characters. I really enjoy the Pinecraft, Florida setting and it really makes me imagine what it must be like living there.

Eva has always been a little sickly and her Mother worries about her. She doesn't let her do much because she is afraid she will get sicker.

The Doctor recommends that she move from the cold and goes to visit her Aunt in Florida. While she is there, she tries to do all the things her Mom won't let her do. Really enjoyed the book and think you will too.

I never fully connected with the main male love interest. However, these Amish stories per usual are really sweet. The setting was different but cute. And I loved the extended family especially the little girl.

Loved the Connections

I really enjoyed following Eva and Tanner on their journey. One of the things that made it so enjoyable was the connection between Eva and Becky, and how that played into Eva and Tanner's relationship.
It was a quick and enjoyable read.
