Rate this book
No more quiet, obedient Rose Hallowell. Every witch knows the rules—and I've broken them all to save myself and win my happiness.

I thought my troubles would be over once I had my magic and my men by my side. Apparently I was a little too optimistic. My stepmother left me with a seed of doubt I can't shake. I may have more enemies in my home than I ever imagined.

My guys say they'll do anything for me, but they couldn't have been prepared for the twisted secrets of the witching world. Or for an old friend to unexpectedly show up in town, with who knows what complications for our newfound connection.

The thorns are closing in around us. Will my unpracticed magic and my consorts' love be enough to guide us through?

I don't think that this series is for me. While the first book held my interest enough to continue to the second, this one fell very flat for me.

After the events of the first book, Rose has fully come into her powers with the help of her four consorts. But she's still keeping this a secret from her father because she's not sure how deep the betrayal goes. Also, the elusive fifth childhood boy friend also comes back into town throwing their little gang out of whack for a bit.

I think I just wanted more substance here. Rose still seemed very childish and very unwilling to step up and claim her birthright. For all of the talk about how she will expose secrets and lies, she hid from conflict at every chance she got. And because of this, drama just kept cropping up where it really didn't need to be.

Another issue I had was with the boys. While in the first book they were easy to keep separate and each had their own personality, they all really blended together in this one. There was nothing individual about them and this was even made worse by the arrival of Gabriel. He was kind of the worst and really all for nothing because any conflict that could have happened from his arrival was glossed over in lieu of family drama. And I felt no connection between any of the consorts and Rose. It literally just became her using the boys for sex to get power. And I'm just not here for that.

I think this is where this series and I part ways.

I am interested in the magic aspect so I will continue and see how that goes

That's what I said before I read book two but at this point i'm tired, the good stuff seems to always happen at the end and since I don't really enjoy the book I don't have the energy to be strung along so at this time I am going to quit. Toodles.

I'm enjoying listening to this series, honestly, though I'm not sure if I'd feel as interested if I was reading it.

The FMC has been foiling plots against her to control her and steal her magic. She spends most of this book trying to figure out if her father is truly in on the contracts her stepmother and fiancee consort had drawn up to control her once she came into her magic. Jokes on them though seeing as she's already come into her magic by taking four of her human lovers as consorts.

Now she has to try and figure out how to take control over her family estate without the Council and her father learning she has taken consorts and sparked her magic. Lots of plots and planning to outwit one another in this series.

Rose Halliwell has her consorts, her magic and now Gabriel is here closing up her circle of childhood friends. The only thing left to do is figure out how tangled her father is in Celestine's plot to enslave Rose's magic.

While I enjoyed this continuation, it felt like the smut overpowered the plot in this one. I enjoy smut, but not when it's substituted for character development or plot. I'm still curious enough to see what Rose and her guys will do next. Especially with how rude that ending was. Cliffhanger much?

I do enjoy seeing the guys working on their relationships with Rose. Damon is definitely the "bad boy" and in this one we see this cause tension between him and Rose. I liked that Rose isn't trying to change him, but also won't let him do ridiculous things on her behalf. I hope we get similar development between Rose and the other guys. Also Seth fixing up a house for all of them was so sweet.

Well I enjoyed the first book I did find this to be a lot better. I loved that the gang is finally back together after the first book. Hearing about one of the missing members and this time around he comes home and I must say I really do like him. I like how the heroine tries to make up for her family‘s faults over the years and is doing her best to pay back her men for the misfortunes that her family brought them. I still don’t know for sure who is involved with wanting to control her magic. I mean it’s clear her fathers up to something but personally I didn’t get any flashing signs that he was guilty. And then with that cliffhanger ending who knows what’s next. The ending of the last book ended with a happy for now so I assumed the same of this one. I was way wrong lol. All points lead that way until the last second when they were all calm thinking things were working out that shit hit the fan. I’m looking forward to hearing more on the soul binding they can do and seeing how powerful she turns out being. Sure this council thinks they have the high ground but I think everyone is underestimating Rose and she’ll show them. Looking forward to it 😈

Something didnt sit right with me with this book. The ending did not seem genuine. The author made a point to tell us how much she loves her father, but the way she disposes of him is ruthless. Also, she sent her fathers wife away and without a thought of their relationship. I understand she thought her step mother was horrid and a threat, but she banished her father's wife without him knowing, banned her from ever being able to contact him again, and then lied about it and played innocent when he was concerned about her.

She can not be as innocent and duplicitous as the author wants her to be at the same time and still be a convincing character.

Rose is a great character, and whilst it took me a while to get truly into this, about 40%, it was well worth the wait. The relationships and characters take some time to develop, and the sexual action doesn’t take a front seat, which is my preference in a good, solid reverse harem novel.

I am definitely continuing on to the next book.

I normally don't mind my no binge reading policy. I'm very happy to dive into a few other worlds before returning to a world I liked. However, with this book the wait felt long. I liked the first book a lot, especially the characters and the magic system, and therefore I couldn't wait to dive into the sequel and to see where it would head. Especially because, even though we already had four amazing guys, a fifth guy showed up on the last few pages.

And not once did this book let me down! I love how much time there is for conversations and character interactions and growth. The book isn't very action packed, but I really feel like I know these characters, like they are my friends and we have spent a lot of time together. I care about them and what happens to them and since there are three more books in this series, this keeps me on the edge of my seat. I don't want bad things to happen to them, but bad things will happen to them.

The story continues right where the previous book stopped. And just like the first book Rose spends most of her time trying to figure out what's really going on. The more she discovers, the more she realizes that this entire thing is so much bigger than just her stepmom and I love how we therefore get to see much more of the witching world. We learn a little more about the politics, the rules and the society. However, there are also a lot of unanswered questions and the plot keeps on getting bigger and bigger!

Since there is a lot of politics and planning and scheming in this book, the characters have to be intelligent to make this story work. I guess that's one of the biggest reasons why I like Eva's work. The characters aren't stupid. When they do something stupid they acknowledge it as such or it's really well explained why they're losing their cool and temper. And intelligence is one of my turn-ons, something I really like in characters.

So, now the long waiting for next week is starting. Especially because this cliffhanger is much more brutal than the first one!

MINOR SPOILERS THROUGHOUT:
I liked this book just as much as the first one... until the end. Everything was going great and I was really enjoying it until the very last page. The one thing I did not want to happen, happened and it ruined the book for me. I don't even think I will be continuing the series after that.

I know this was a short review but I have one final comment... Where did Phil go? She wasn't really in this book at all?! She was one of my favorite characters and she all but went away in this book. And when she did appear, her normal snark and the hilarity of her character just wasn't there.

Lines are being drawn...

Rose is starting to come into her power now that she’s illegally consorted, she knows her boys are with her even though their lives are now at stake. Who can she trust anymore besides them? From the sounds of things, no one. I like the fact that the sex is great, but also secondary to the main storyline. We discovered more of everyone’s wants in and out of the bedroom in this book in consideration of all the scheming and underhanded plots, it seemed necessary to get that out of the way. The book left on a huge cliffhanger,so I can’t wait to see what’s next.

Hoping for more interpersonal drama

So it’s obviously Rose and boys against the world, which is great and all. But how have all the interpersonal issues been so minor? Having a RH is a big deal when you’ve never planned on it. Like ever.
Parts of the plot were a bit predictable, and one part was downright disappointing. But I’m still hopeful for things to pick up.

2 (1.5?)/5 - It just, really isn't good. The most interesting part was the very end, but of course it is because they want you to read the next one. I will not be reading the next one. Also, all the dudes just feel like they are all the same character. Their only real definition is their jobs, but their "personalities," if you want to call it that, are all the same. The spice is terribly lacking, and the story is predictable. We all know how the last book will end, so I will not bother

Okay a few thing happened but the book seemed to be dragged out. The main question whether or not her father was involved in her suitor problem was never answers. We know he was up to something but we don't know what. I found it hard to read this but with the ending I can't not continue either.

Something Wicked This Way Comes

A Little Recap...
Now that her Wicked Stepmother is out of the way, Rose and her boys have two major missions left: get rid of Derek, the sketchy fiancé with wandering hands, and figure out if Celestine was telling the truth when she said Rose’s father helped mastermind the plot to control Rose’s magic.

In the midst of all this drama, Rose and the boys have to keep their consorting, and the love that’s binding them together, a secret.

Not only is it taboo to have a relationship with an unsparked, but, as Rose and the boys are discovering, their secret could have deadly consequences.

My Thoughts...
At first I wasn’t sure how there would be more books after Consort of Thorns; it seemed like the two big conflicts would be wrapped up, and then where would we go next?

However, Chase went way beyond my expectations and turned this sequel into an important book that lays out several BIG conflicts and questions for the future of the series.

As readers of Secrets will know, witching society’s power literally lies in the core of its women. You’d think this would give them the upper hand, but there’s bitterness and secrets lurking beneath the surface.

As the boys help Rose try and uncover whether there have been other unsparked consorts, whether there have been unions with multiple consorts, they start to uncover hidden files that show a larger conspiracy might be at hand, files that question the structure and integrity of witching society and it’s ruling body.

I found that incredibly interesting because it turned Rose’s conflict from a personal situation into something much deeper, with higher stakes than she and the consorts ever could’ve predicted.

As Rose starts to question who she can trust and what she must do to keep her consorts, and her spark, safe, she begins to flirt with the line between light and dark magic and intentions. Even though there are many moments where she relies on her consorts, Rose must also be the strong one, guiding the men through a world in which they’re sorely outclassed.

Thorns gives us the opportunity to see the consorts grow into their role as Rose’s lovers but also as a unified “team”. Thorns continues in the narration of Secrets, giving us chapters in Rose and each of the consort’s points of view.

I really enjoy the chance to see into their minds, and I think there’s a lot of development for both Seth and Damon- they might be my favorites at the moment. Both men make some big decisions that show they’re really prioritizing Rose and their partnership with each other.

In terms of steam and chemistry, there’s a lot more physicality between Rose and the men in Thorns both as single partner and group encounters. Those who like a little more...romance...in your books will definitely be pleased, and, if nothing else, this shows that they’re really strengthening and cementing their relationship to one another.

If you’re more of a slow burn fan, you’ll still get a taste of that with Gabriel as he and Rose have a bit of a “will they? Won’t they?” as he sorts through his own drama and figures out if he can commit to them all.

Overall, Thorns was more than I was expecting and sets up a big cliffhanger to take us into book three. It’s a worthwhile read, and a “must” if you plan to continue Rose and the boys’ story!

Note: I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review and this doesn't in any way influence my opinion on it.

It's amazing to find books with strong female characters. If you think about older books and events in the past not to many characters were female leads and certainly not the fierce sassy women we read and see today. I love it when women can jump in and save the day or be the genius that solves problems. I happened upon A Consort of Secrets by Eva Chase because I was looking for a reverse harem (rh) books. Let me tell you The Witch's Consorts is a really good series so far and Rose is such a strong female character and it continues in A Consort of Thorns.

Eva has created a world where women have the power. Rose is a witch and she will gain access to her magical powers when she turns twenty-five. Now in the world only women have magic, males in witching families have no magic and no really power in the witching community. In this series it's the women who have the really power and supposedly control everything and that is a refreshing aspect of the story. Each guy is different and offers different things to Rose and fills in something that she needed but only they can give. Daemon is cunning, Seth caring, Kyler, inquisitive, Jin creative and Gabriel is somehow a combination of the four. Together they offer the support that Rose needs in her life because everything is about to go to complete shit.

The guys all get at least two chapters that are told from their povs and I love that. Because of the guys pov I got to learn more about their personalities and them in general, this is a pretty crazy world and it's new to them and I appreciated seeing things from their perspective. Although I do think that the guys would react a little differently about the whole use of magic and are a little shocked and some of the things that Rose can actually do. I feel that could have been expressed a little better.

I flew through the pages of this book, I mean it had my complete attention and I couldn't wait to see how the story was going to play out. Here is a warning, this book is for eighteen and older and if you have a problem with sex scenes then this is not your book.

A Consort of Thorns is new adult novel not only has sexy fun times but it has a real mystery behind it as Rose discovers the people who are plotting behind her back and finally finds out just how deep this conspiracy goes. With the help of her consorts Rose will find the answers she is looking for and those answers will completely shock her. I had so much anxiety by the last one-fourth of this book. The whole time the story was building up to something I could just feel it and I knew the other shoe was going to drop and boy did it. The end left on such a cliffhanger and I can't believe now I have to wait for the next book, I mean come on. I can't wait to see how Rose is going to get herself out of this mess.

3.5⭐️

Tropes:
Why Choose / Reverse Harem
Unique Magic System
Forbidden Love
Childhood Friends
Different Worlds

Rose has come into her magic, and she has four consorts when other witches only have one.

Her magic is intense and her spark is burning so bright in her chest that she is overflowing with power. She is no longer quiet and obedient.

She has broken almost every rule that exists in her society in an effort to find her own happiness. Happiness that was threatened to be stolen from her by her family.

She thought that once she bonded with her consorts and her stepmother was out of the way, her troubles would fade. She thought wrong.

Her stepmother caused a seed of doubt to burrow underneath Rose’s skin as she was facing a possibility of her father being the main conspirator against her.

Her guys want to do anything they can to keep her safe, but they are in over their heads as they face a world they hadn’t even known existed.

Rose finds her reality closing in on her as she faces problems con all sides. Having her magic wasn’t the fix all that she expected it to be, especially as she is unpracticed. Her love for her guys and the power burning within won’t be enough to save them.

This is the sequel in the Witch’s Consort series.

My rating here is a hard one as I couldn’t really decide between 4⭐️ or 3⭐️. I enjoyed reading the book, but kept feeling like something was missing. This feeling was a bit confusing for me considering that there wasn’t really any slow spots in the book.

It was filled with action or scenes that pushed the story along, and you got to see a more confident side of Rose. She has stepped into her powers, has her consorts, and is now facing her father as a potential enemy.

It’s filled with mystery and intrigue as she tries to navigate her new powers without being caught and investigate her father to see if he was part of a scheme against her.

I also really enjoyed the development between her guys and seeing how she manages to balance them as well as continue to explore the men they are now.

I didn’t like the way the book kept wanting us to think that her had was apart of the problem without fully confirming it. I know that most things are coincidental but the book never really told us if her father was the problem. It just ends with her doing a horrible thing to him without any sort of confirmation, despite the fact that Rose repeatedly tells us she loves her dad.

And yet, I didn’t come away in love with it. I just feel like it’s okay.

I received an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

Once again, Eva Chase has delivered an intriguing and engaging story filled with twists and turns. It's always good when you find a writer who is capable of maintaining the standard of writing they set in each book they produce, and Eva Chase is one of those authors. Not once did I feel the slightest urge to stop reading. And the comment on society that I noticed in the first book carried through to this one. It's this whole balance of power situation, giving one portion of society more power than the other and seeing how the less powerful react. I can absolutely believe that if this were a real life situation (not the magic part, but women having more power than men in general), the men would try and change that to give them more power in society because it's what's happening today, only the other way around. It's flipping our history on it's head, so instead of men being seen as superior to women and women trying to bridge that gap, women are seen as superior and men are trying to change that. And in doing so, it kind of says that neither should be given more power than the other. Maybe in reading too much into it, but that commentary is definitely there, and that makes it even more intriguing.

Rose is also an interesting character. I did find her a little annoying at times, as she tends to act all 'woe is me', and a large part of her time is spent worrying about 'her guys', which is understandable, but when there's too much starts to grate on the reader. However, she's also willing to take action and to be a part of that action, and that's always good to see in a protagonist. The only thing I didn't like was the amount of steamy content. This is an 18+ read and there are a number of sex scenes, but their inclusion wasn't my issue. There's significantly more in Consort of Thorns than in Consort of Secrets, and because there were so many they all kind of read the same to me. They all sort of started the same way, ended the same way, the same things happened in the same order, they even said the same things during, and it just bored me after a while. But apart from that, I enjoyed Consort of Thorns from start to finish and with that cliffhanger of an ending, I'll definitely be eagerly awaiting the next instalment.

This was a pretty big meh for me. Considering it took me eight months to actually read this book in it’s entirety, I’d say that meh is the understatement of 2020.

I stuck around because Consort of Secrets piqued my interest enough for me grab the second book. The magic and intrigue, Rose rising above her meek beginnings into a woman who took what she wanted, and the help of some very hot unsparked men. Then, it seemed to drag on from there and grow more dull by the page turn.

We started Consort of Thorns off with Gabriel, the last of their childhood group, coming back thanks to Rose’s magical call to him. It’s somewhat awkward because he isn’t part of her consort when he obviously would have been if he had been there. With the uncertainty of who Rose can trust back at her estate and how their consort relationship will work out, there was plenty that Chase could have done to make this book just as great, if not better, than the first. It just didn’t work out. The story moved at a snails pace. Rose seemed just as meek and indecisive as ever in all regards except in relation to her sexual awakening. It all just seemed so bland.

Honestly, the guys had grown so boring and they didn’t have the more vibrant personalities I glimpsed in the first book of the series. It also became abundantly clear that there were gonna be a LOT of sexier scenes and that our girl was going to be giving lots of “whimpers” and “needing to fix her oversight” bullshit. I don’t have a problem with the hotter stuff but it was literally just an overload of the same formula Chase uses with all the consorts. Literally. It also doesn’t help that there’s the weird thing of her just using sex and physical intimacy to gain more power. It’s kind of addressed but there wasn’t that actual depth to the conversation or emotions involved that made it seem remotely okay. I don’t really like anyone being used for their bodies, even if they love the person. It feels gross and manipulative.

I’m not even caught up in the story anymore. I don’t really care what’s going to happen with the rest of the series. The only thing I’ll say I’m sad about is leaving behind Damon cause I love a tough-softie bad boi. Regardless, the rest of the book is so meh that I’m alright with it. So, I feel like this is where I say farewell and, to anyone else attempting to read on, good luck.

3.75 stars reverse harem series she’s a witch the first book ends with 4 men this when she gets her fifth. This book picks up right where the first one ended with Gabriel coming back into town which is the fifth man. This one deals with her trying to find out if her father was in on trying to control her and the guys helping her Gabriel being one of them. She finds out her father was in on it so then it’s the plot on how to reveal that her father was in on it without her revealing that she’s with Dion sparked. Because they did find out that witches that marry men that are not witches do get killed off. And this one Gabriel joins the harem what had me give this one a lower score was that some of these men had no sexual experiences with you as she’s describing them as super handsome and super outgoing so I really didn’t buy that. I bought her being virginal because of her very strict upbringing. Also thinking about it now she has no qualms diving into the whole Minaj thing. This one ended on a big cliffhanger the house that stuff filled they’re all there together and then I guess the witch police Braixen Braixen and charge them with a crime. Will read the next one to find out how the story goes.

This is book #2 in the Consorts series and once again, Eva keeps us spellbound with the intrigue. Rose and her guys must continue to feel their way. The chapters with Kyler, Seth, Jin, Damon, and Gabriel's point of view was very enlightening into how each is coping with the strange, hidden world they are trying to understand while exploring and strengthening their new relationships with Rose.
Rose, for her part, is trying to protect the guys from her kind and their ways, all while still learning herself. There is so much she was never told, never privy to, never observant enough? to realize the mysteries and underground plots? going on under her very nose. This, and the fact that she really is only beginning to grasp the extent of her magical ability - how to wield it, strengthen it, not be overcome by it's power - lead her to begin the rely more heavily on her men.
Can their group remain together and fight the odds? Good question, because the cliffhanger just threw them for another loop!
Very entertaining read

Another great book in this series! I absolutely adore Rose as a main character. She has so much strength and doesn’t let anything bring her down. I love reading a book where the female is the paranormal one and is always ready to protect and defend her guys! It’s awesome to see her come into her powers as a witch and take back what’s rightfully hers! The guys are also totally lovable and they seem to have such a strong foundation and relationship with Rose. The fact that they are childhood friends also brings a cool new aspect to the story and I’m excited to see them all bond as a group more. There was a lot going on in this second installment and I couldn’t put the book down! I really love this series, the characters, and the fact that the group has an established relationship already and are taking on the world together! A must read book!! And the cliffhanger ending...... you’ll be on the edge of your seat waiting for the next book to come out!

Book: Consort of Thorns
Series: The Witch’s Consorts, Book 2
Author: Eva Chase
Completed Series: Yes!
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Format: Audiobook

Storyline/Plot:
Okay, I see you, Eva! That cliffhanger was not very friendly at all! I love how the new characters are introduced. I want to know more about that wand. I have so many questions that won’t make sense to anyone who has read this series, but dang the questions are there! The only thing that didn’t fit with the timeline of the story was Seth and the house. The pace is perfect. There are a lot of people who could be out to get Rose, but I’m curious to see who is at the heart of it!

Favorite Characters:
Gabriel is my favorite. I am drawn to him like the rest of the characters in the book. I know Rose is supposed to be the center, but Gabriel could be the center of the guys too.

Spice:
There is a decent amount of spice. Nothing is too graphic or too crazy for a reverse harem. It’s more on the sweet side than anything else

Rose Hallowell is determined to no longer be obedient - she's already broken all the rules to be happy and safe so how much worse can it be? However her stepmother has put doubt in her mind as to whether she can trust the rest of those in her home. As the thorns close in can her unpractised magic and the love of her consorts be enough to guide them through?

Goodness - just when you think everything has been sorted out something else pops up to make life difficult again. There were plenty of twists and turns in the story and lots of surprises to make sure you had to pay attention to everything that was happening. Well written and easy to understand it was definitely a worthy continuation of the series. As for the twist at the end - wow - the next book cannot come fast enough as I really need to know what happens next.

The witching community has strict rulers, but Rose is not one to follow them. Especially considering her situation in her family, almost forced consorting, and unusual attachments. Now that Gabriel is back in her life, the childhood friends are all together again, but this time, the relationship is definitely different - more intimate, more intense, and more dangerous. Emotions play important role in Rose´s life, and help her spark to flare bright and potent. The ties between the witch and her consorts grow tighter, and with that, the relationships grow, deepen, and develop, changing the involved under the changing situations. Formerly personal conflicts expand to the whole witching community and even touch the humans, although not yet too visibly. The cliffhanger and unanswered questions in the end support the desire to read more as soon as possible, and I definitely did so.
