Life has a funny habit of throwing the most peculiar curveballs at you. Up until now I thought my life was fairly ordinary, but I was so wrong. After losing my parents two years ago, I found it hard to believe in anything. Then I met him… Oscar Campbell. He has changed my entire perspective on life and the world around me. The supernatural world exists and it’s closer than any of us realize. Oscar has awakened something inside of me that I didn’t know was there. I just don’t know if I’m ready for this new life.
I am an author currently based on the South Coast of England. I write sweet, fun, action-packed fantasy. My characters are clever, fearless, and adventurous but in real life, I spend all of my time curled up with a book in my hands, daydreaming. Let's face it. I wouldn't last five minutes in one of my books.
REJECTING THE ALPHA was a fun YA boarding academy shifter romance. Amelia lost both of her parents recently and when she gets a mysterious letter from a magical academy, she realizes they were keeping secrets about her origins. I loved the scenes of her at magical school, taking archery classes, in magical history. She has an instant connection with a wolf shifter named Oscar, but being new to the world, is confused about how to handle her feelings and doesn’t understand how fated mates work. The book is written in alternating POV from Amelia’s perspective and Oscar’s. It’s a quick read and does end on a bit of a cliffhanger which only left me anticipating book two more! 5/5 stars.
“It has taken a lot to get you here, Amelia.” I looked at the man, confusion clear on my face. “My apologies. I should have introduced myself. Johnathan Shire. But most of the students have taken to calling me Shire. I’m not sure why.” “Your [sic] who was trying to get me here? I don’t understand why?” He looked at me as though it was simple, and I just wasn’t getting it. I’m not normally this slow.
You can’t get more than two stars out of me if you mix up your and you’re in the first 20% of the novel, NGL. Book starts off painful with a dead-parent backstory that makes you want to call Child Protective Services and a barely-legal FMC who gets violently sexually assaulted in the very first scene, making you want to throw the whole thing out the window. But I didn’t DNF until 15% when the professor character, who knew her address and sent her letters, said this:
“Your father was my eldest friend; I knew he wanted to tell you all about this world himself but unfortunately he never got the chance. I have been searching for you ever since.” He looked away from my gaze. His eyes shining with unshed tears as he talked about my father.
This was a nice quick read that kept a fast moving pace and ended on a cliff hanger. Its what I imagined Twilight to be if it was written in a faster-paced environment, a less self-obsessed FMC, and werewolf based instead of vampire.
I loved how the instant connection between the FMC and MMC was there but not fully played into so that it pulled more into a slow-burn. The integration of more than just two supernatural beings is great and I hope that we continue to see this develop and more characters get their chance to shine as main characters within the series.
If you want a fast read that has the following tropes, you found your next read: - Slow Burn - Touch her and die - She falls first but he falls harder - fated mates - semi-forced proximity - supernatural beings
This is by far disappointing. It had great potential but sadly fell flat. The whole story is like skimming through an actual story itself. So much is left out skimmed over or actual not there. The speeding through events actually hurts the whole of the story. Perhaps if they were more elaborated and expanded then it would be a more enjoyable read. As it stands I will not be reading further into this series.
I liked the story. It was the perfect academy for supernaturals storyline. I was severely unwhelmed with the romance between Oscar and Amelia. One of the first chapters explaining who was Amelia's mate confused me and made it seem as if Sam was her mate. I really liked the friend group that Amelia surrounded herself in. I like the world lore and I will be reading the conclusion to this book and don't mind the $2.99 price tag.
New author, lookinf forward to more from her. The story was amazing and kept you wanting more. The mystery behind the main character is mesmerizing and keeps you guessing.
Amelia lost her family but has been given a fresh start at a new school but not everything is as it seems. This is a love story at the heart of the book with two people who just want to be needed and loved. This is a good start to the series. I can’t wait to read the next book.
This was a ready quick read but super interesting. There are a few errors but nothing too bad. It kept me on the edge of my seat and some of the plot twists had me so mad but thrilled to find out more.
I liked this book. It was a quick read. But a good story. I do wish the questions were answered in a more timely manor. Why invite her to a school so persistently then not follow up?
Not a super fan of cliffhangers but I’m glad the next one is on KU. Borrowing to read now.
This book took me just a few hours to read, loved that it was short yet also wished it was longer. Can't wait to read book two and hopefully get some more Sam moments, he's just too adorable.
