I never intended to bond with a dragon.
I definitely didn’t intend to become his wife.
Now I must wed the Crown Prince, a man who is as cruel as he is handsome.
Yet as soon as my dragon and I are presented to the king and queen, we are rejected.
My dragon is not big enough, not good enough, and neither am I.
So I’m shoved into the dragon rider corps to train to be a royal rider
And told to find a husband among them.
I know who I want. The four men who rescued me from ruin, who’ve protected me the entire time.
And I don’t want to take just one.
The problem is dragons are power in this country and the last time a woman took four riders as consorts, she was queen.
And Draven would never allow such a threat to his future reign exist.

This is a dragon rider fantasy romance.

I have mixed feelings about this book.
I can’t say that I loved it. Neither the writing nor the romance were particularly good, and the characters were rather bland, but at the same time, it was kind of trashy and entertaining, and I find myself curious to see what happens in the next book… And hope it will be better developed. But at the same time, I am not invested enough to truly care about the characters and what happens to them.

This book starts as a Cinderella retelling. Pip has been outcasted by her stepmother and stepsister after her father’s death, and she has to try her best to survive while being continuously abused by them until she is saved by a dashing prince, or in this case, 4 dashing dragon riders. Pip is discovered to be the one they’ve been waiting for, the one who hatched the future Dragon Queen egg, thus making Pip the Queen-in-waiting, destined to marry the Prince and rule by his side when the time comes. Pip wants none of it and is even a little relieved when the current Queen rejects her and her dragon until she finds herself forced to enroll and train with the cadet dragon rider, as the only woman among hundreds of men.

The writing is simplistic, and the plot very straightforward. It is all very linear and predictable, with no big surprises. Pip was faced with a problem, she found a solution and moved forward, again and again and again. There was not much complexity to the plot or even subplots. There are also a few typos, or weird and repetitive sentences (such as “To make clear Queen Gloriana’s failures were made clear.”), and an overuse of the word “pearl” (iykyk).

“She’s yours now, and you are hers. You’ll feel what she feels, sense what she senses. As she gets older, stronger, when she can see and think of more than her belly, you’ll feel that too.”

If you enjoy dragons, this might be a good book for you. There is an Eragon vibe here (there is even a character named Brom). In this world, dragons are clever, can communicate mentally with their riders, and even read the minds of people around them. Riders can feel their dragon’s emotions, and there is a deep connection between rider and dragon from the moment the egg hatches.

Pippin, or Pip, is a good main character at first but gets less interesting as the story progresses. Her growth was not consistent. She shows again and again how strong and resilient she is, and how she refuses to let people walk over her ever again, yet she started to have “some feelings” for the prince after he’d been a jerk to her, simply because he had one or two nice moments or conversations with her. She was also raised as a lady, up until she was banned from her home, but that still means that she was sheltered when it comes to sexuality, and she said herself that she had never been kissed at 19 years old. Still, she went from being shocked and uneasy because one of the riders would touch her leg or her hip, to asking them how to properly suck them off. I am all for sexual freedom and confidence, but it seemed like a huge step, going from having never been touched, to being so willing and confident a few days or weeks later .

This is a reverse harem, but sadly it was an insta-attraction type of RH. I am not a fan of insta-love and insta-attraction. I understand the insta-attraction, that’s not my issue. My issue is when the character has known the love interests for a few days only and is already unable to control herself around them, and reacts to the smallest touch. The same goes for the men, they knew nothing about Pip, but were all so obviously attracted to her and had this protective side that came out for her, and I couldn’t help but wonder why. While I liked Pip in the first half of the book, they didn’t know anything about her, but they couldn’t stay away from her.

The love interests were also rather bland and they all felt interchangeable. Pip meets Soren, Flynn, Geb, and Brom early in the book, but it took me a while to even be able to differentiate them all. They have no layers or depth, and they all feel the same, except for Geb who seems to be the youngster, the more reckless one, and Brom and Soren who are the more mature ones… But that’s about it. I struggle to get invested in RH when all the guys feel the same. They need distinct personalities for me to care about them all, and understand how they all fit with the main character too.

Prince Draven ended up being more intriguing and complex than the love interests. Now, while I enjoyed discovering that he was more complex than I first thought and that he was playing the political game instead of simply being a jerk for no reason, I don’t understand why the f*ck Pip’s feelings toward him would change so suddenly and drastically. First of all, Draven was an utter ass to Pip, humiliating her and being nasty for no apparent reason, then he did a 180-degree turn and decided to help her, and that was enough for her to stop being repulsed by him and hate him and start having fantasies of what it would be like living in the countryside with him. It was one hell of a whiplash to go from one extreme to the other in a day or two (again, insta-attraction).

There is politics, but once again, it was not the best developed or complex political plot. The villain is villain just because they’re power-hungry apparently, and the whole “mind reading and mind controlling” aspect of it felt too easy. It was thrown there, barely explained, and it felt like a cheap plot device to justify the villain’s power.

Finally, I have to ask myself who tf is on the cover?! Pip is described as having “nut brown skin”, and shaved hair, yet that girl is as white as my legs in winter and has insanely long and luscious hair. She wears men’s clothes and the author stresses so many times that she has a boyish or manly figure. Also, Pip’s dragon, Glimmer, is also a baby and golden, not a huge black and red dragon, so I can’t help but wonder what’s happening with the cover… It’s a tiny detail, but every time I would read another information about Pip’s physique, I would look at the cover and wonder what happened.

While a part of me is a little curious to see what happens in the next book, I do not think I will read it, because rereading the review I just wrote, I realize just how many things annoyed me in this book, and my TBR is too long for me to waste my time with the sequel.

1st person POV - FMC Pippa

This newest release from Sam Hall is a slow burn why-choose full of court politics, dismantling purity culture and the double standard between men and women's virtue, and finding an identity outside of the boxes society places you in at birth all packaged neatly in a Cinderella retelling, except this time, the evil stepmother and stepsister actually get what they deserve and instead of a glass slipper, it's a dragons egg. However, while I enjoyed this, it was way too long. Each day is described in detail and the one time there is a time jump (only a few hours but like I said, other than sleeping, the days are described in detail so this was a big deal to the author I guess), there's a note of "a few hours later in the dining hall" as if we wouldn't be able to come to that conclusion on our own 🙄

But other than my frustration with the pacing, I enjoyed the plot and I really liked the guys and getting to know them. Ged and Flynn are my favorites so far though. I'm not sure if there's going to be a redemption arc for Draven but it seems like there will be, so I hope he can redeem himself. He hasn't done anything inherently heartless, just thrown out some hurtful words and doled out some punishments, as his duty requires. The more we learn about his circumstances (which, granted, isn't a lot so far), the more we can infer his motives and while they may seem cruel on the surface, I'm wondering if there's a deeper, more sinister plot we aren't aware of yet. I loved Pippa's growth and how emotionally intelligent she is, even though she's only 19. Her character arc even from just this first book is so great to see and I'm sure there's still more to come. No cliffhanger, pretty great editing, and interesting epilogue (from Draven's POV)... I'm looking forward to book 2!

I loved the way women was portrayed in this book. There was no “I’m not like other girls” or looking down on other women. No calling other women “whores” or other women treating her bad because she was friends with the “popular” guys. It was refreshing.

My problem with this story was that the characters had no depth. I barely even remember the names of all the love interests. They had no personality at all. The only character with depth was the mc, whom I actually really liked. Draven also had something in his story. The other guys are still basically like strangers.

The book was still enjoyable, though.

Quick Summary
Love the initial Cinderella vibes and the world brimming with fierce queens. The swoon-worthy MMCs in this story had me hooked. Draven’s a total ass (but something is irresistible), the villain is pure narcissist, and I can’t wait to uncover more in the next book.

Reading Thoughts
📙Loved the start of this book and the similarity to Cinderella.
📙Draven is a big ass but then there is something about him that pulls me in …
📙Glimmer is the definition of fierce and knows her lot in life…little queen!!
📙The MMC’s are sooo drool worthy and love the different personas a lot.
📙Loved the innocence when it came to what she was feeling with her body when the men were close.
📙Hating on the villain in this story a lot and the forced control she has instilled.
📙There is so much more to uncover in this world and cannot wait to read the next one.

Words that linger
🍷We have no wives, no sweethearts, because we can only give a woman a small slice of our hearts. (Brom)
🍷Yes Beauty. Beautiful enough to draw man’s eye, have you moving closer, wanting to catch your scent in his nose, to fill your shiver beneath him, because you’re a terrible thing, Lady Pippa. (Brom)
🍷I realised that one didn’t need to be queen-in-waiting to help change the world. (Pippa)
🍷 “You’d been through all that shit and it never broke you for a second.” (Soren)
🍷He stared into my eyes and I stared back. This felt like a… test of sorts, but I had no idea how it worked and Flynn wasn’t going to tell me, instead brushing his thumb against my now tingling bottom ...

I always get happy when I randomly pick a book from my massive TBR list and it winds up being a good one.

The story starts out like a Cinderella historical romance, with the FMC Pippin who has been disowned and abused by the step mother and step sister. Pippa is strong and in survival mode when the kingdom’s queen dragon lays an egg that requires a human to bond with. Of course Pippin is the chosen one, but she is rejected by the human queen and her son, and sent to train as a dragon rider. There we have our four MMC, all very sweet and protective over Pippin.

There is a lot of court like drama and politics in this book. Again reminding me of a historical romance in the best ways. I’m curious enough to want to see how the series goes. Is the broody prince friend or foe? I’m hoping book two keeps this pace.

I was lucky enough to be chosen to receive an eARC of, not only the first book in this series, but also the entire omnibus! All 3 books! The omnibus also features special artwork throughout and I found it super enjoyable while reading. I am currently halfway through book 2.

Now to the book. First off...it's a Cinderella retelling with dragons and why-choose all twisted in! And Ok, now I know there will be a few comparisons to Fourth Wing. I have been in THE MOOD for dragons and this one is quite good at giving you the dragons. As well as a cute little golden one that our FMC bonds with basically before this little golden one hatches. The dragons have a strong bond with their humans and I have always loved that about any romantasy/fantasy book that involves them.

You follow Pippa and Glimmer as they grow together and discover they are both destined for Queendom. NOT without its obstacles though! A certain someone wants them dead but these regal ladies have plenty of protectors that would give their souls for them. Literally. Talk about 'There's Something About Mary' vibes! I mean everyone and their dragon wants these two! I found it quite fun and funny watching literally everyone try to win her hand.

It's a very slow burn, why-choose romantasy that's an extremely easy read! If you're not into a huge world building type book where there's tons to learn?...this one is perfect! Especially if you're just in the mood for dragons and mates and bonds. I'm starting to wonder if there will be more mates added into the mix by then end of this series! 🤔😂

Spice level is 3/5 🌶️ but I hear the next books get spicier!

Thank you Hambright PR and Sam Hall for the honor of receiving the OMNIBUS of this series with the amazing artwork (yes, even in the ebook!) in exchange for my honest review!

Okay FIRSTLY. This cover is LIES, Pippa is bald for 80% of the book and even when she does have hair it doesn’t look like that on the cover. Secondly, omg I don’t know how I actually got through this book. How did it get an average rating of 4 stars? It must be the dragons because if I’m honest with myself that’s why I didn’t DNF it either. Pippa drove me nuts, she constantly doubts herself, ALLOWS frickin Draven to be sooo misogynistic and she does NOTHING. She literally just takes it and practically says “yeah I know being a woman is a disadvantage and all I need to do is have children but I’ll try my best to please you” UGH. Overall the plot had so much potential and it waffled on so much and I just got sick of it. The only good thing in this book are the dragons and I feel sorry for their names *facepalm* I mean really…. Glacier? For a Dragon?! Really??

5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I highly recommend to any fantasy reader, particularly those who love a good dragon rider story, action-packed sequences, and detailed world-building. It's an exciting read that delivers on all the promises of epic fantasy. The book balances action, character development, and plot twists, all leading to a brilliant and high-stakes climax that will leave you breathless. A promising cliffhanger ending means you'll be eager for the next installment. This was book one in a three-part series.

Blurb for Book 1:

Omg, this book! Looks like Sam Hall has another hit Fantasy on her hands with Dragon Found, the first book in her Dragon Queen series. While this is my first dragon rider book I knew I was gonna love it because of Sam and I was beyond right, this book devoured me, mind, heart, and soul.

I love characters both human and dragon with all of my heart. Cruel and greedy people have spent their time trying to push Pippin into the muck but she rises above it. They didn't couldn't brake her, Pip is made of stronger stuff while keeping her beautiful heart. Pippin holds her own, is a hard worker, had empathy, and is intelligent, throughout this story she becomes a bit of a rebel. I utterly adore her.T

Dragon riders are a new concept for me, usually, I read stories with dragon shifters none the less I really enjoyed it. The guys are the defenders of the kingdom, basically, they are in the army and have to give up all other connections except with each other. They form a tight brotherhood and from there they form smaller groups called wings and they basically become family. Brom is the leader, the quiet and responsible one, Soren has that big "D" energy but is also a protector and teacher. Then there's Flynn who is the sweet one while Ged is the flirty, persistent, and completely devoted. All the guys are fantastic men, each one is patient, understanding, caring, thoughtful, and possessive of Pip and loves who she is without trying to change her, they just want to ensure her survival. The guys have formed a sort of family and Pip fits right in like she was made for them.

The plot starts as a Cinderella retelling with Lady Pippa (Pippin or Pip) Wentworth having everything stripped from her by an evil stepmother and stepsister and subject to servitude with themes of cruelty, greed, and life-altering events but then evolves into something more. Highly intelligent dragons that have bonds with their human riders, a woman overcoming the labels that others want to put on her, fascinating dragon history, and a group of kind and decent warriors caring for those in their charge, all of it creates an incredibly alluring story.

Most stories have an evil queen and Regina is a whopper. The royal is devious to her core, plotting, manipulating, and working the ultimate power grab, and will stop at nothing until she gets what she wants. She is pure evil. There were plenty of surprises, one, in particular, being Prince Draven, who comes off as a jerk but apparently things are very complicated when it comes to him and I wonder when things go down what his play is gonna be.

My favorite part is the dragons, which are magnificent creatures with their own distinct personalities. The dragons are highly intelligent and they share their emotions and thoughts with their bonded, the relationship between the two is unlike anything I've ever seen. The dragons are old souls, good to the core, and can see into the deepest part of a human's soul and tell literally everything about them, a unique twist to dragon lore that makes the story. They gossip have meaningful relationships, gossip, and have family drama similar to humans.

Sam has hit her grove with fantasy. Dragon Found was outstanding, not only was the plot captivating but I adored the characters both human and dragon. I went through the gambit of feelings only for it all to accumulate in an ending that had me happy, fearful, inquisitive and feeling all kinds of fury. A lot more is to come, this is only the beginning for the Dragon Queen and I can't for the next book in Pip's story.

Holy mother of dragons… This book did not disappoint!! I was hooked from the beginning and could not stop reading. I don’t read many fantasy books so this was a wonderful treat.

This is book one in the series so it does focus more on world building and character development but it absolutely does not take away from the action that comes with dragons!

Pip is such a strong and resilient character and I found myself admiring her very quickly. The story flows seamlessly as she navigates her new place in the world. The guys are super lovable (mostly) 😉 I’m really hoping Draven comes around!

This book has become one of my favorites this year and I am so excited to see where the story takes us next!! Sam continues to blow my mind with every new story.

Please check trigger warnings as this book has a few.

Dragonriders of Pern was one of my favorite fantasy series as a child, and I was so excited to see one of my favorite authors write their own spin on telepathic dragon riders with a dash of fairy tale, intrigue, and reverse harem. It was quite the exciting read with some unexpected twists, and I look forward to seeing how the planned trilogy will end!

When I saw Sam Hall was writing a RH with dragon riders, I knew I needed to get on board. I read this entire book with the giddiest feeling inside my chest (even the angsty parts) because it was as if my favorite books growing up had been specially made into a reverse harem story just for me! I got the biggest Dragonriders of Pern vibes from this story, and I could not be happier. Sam did a fantastic job with this one!

The FMC, Pippin, has a Cinderella-story start, kicked out of her home by her evil stepmother and stepsister. She is found, and their crimes are brought to light. When the next queen dragon’s egg breaks for her and she bonds with the baby queen, she’s unwillingly pulled into the world of political games. Rejected by the reigning queen and her intended prince, she begins training as a dragon rider. There are real rejected mates and enemies to lovers vibes between her and the crown prince, but his rejection makes her available to explore the budding relationships with the dragon riders who saved her.

Pippin starts out untouched – but that is just a state of being, not some significant status that must be maintained or celebrated. The spice level builds steadily throughout the story, yielding us the scenes for which Sam is well-known and loved.

I loved the strength of Pippin’s character and how she holds her own despite the hardships she faces. She is unapologetic and loyal. She refuses to fall back on the weakness of her sex – instead, she challenges every step and turn. This is a romance, but damn, it made me really wish I could be bonded to a dragon. Pippin’s relationship with her bonded dragon was so pure – true companionship where they shared one heart.

I cannot wait for the next book in this series. I need more of Pippin, her dragon, and the men who love her.

Well, first things first I was not expecting much from a book I found in the depths of Kindle Unlimited, but I found a five star read out of it!!

Badass FMC ✅
Four (possibly five) MMC’s ✅
Dragons that can communicate with there rider’s telepathically ✅
Fantasy plot driven book with not a lot of spice ✅ (don’t worry there’s spice at the end)

The only things that were a little conflicting with this book was first the woman on the cover looks nothing like the way our FMC is described but I ignored that. Second, I was confused for a while in the beginning of the book trying to decide for the plot, but it came in around 35% mark maybe past that but when it did… I devoured it 🤭 and the last two chapters felt so rushed I got a little disappointed..

Would I recommend this book to anyone who likes a somewhat high fantasy book with a reverse harem and a good plot line? YES 🙌

L O V E D I T 🐉♥️

We have dragons, but not just any dragons… BABY QUEEN DRAGONS bonding with humans and chirping and humming and big alpha dragons… so many dragons 🐉 ♥️🐉♥️. Our FMC is a tough cookie. Our harem of dragon riders (swoon) epitomize all that male alphas should be. World building is spectacular, our cast of characters endearing and our villains worthy of death by fire ants finished off by a flame thrower or dragon fire. Or all three just in case. I was hooked from beginning to end. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I love dragons. I really liked the concept of this book and the world created… that being said , it was wayyy too slow for me and the characters felt very one dimensional except for Pippa. I mean, I read 32% and I wasn’t even at the part where she was rejected by the crown.. which was in the synopsis of this book…

I got an arc, but my rating/review are my own!

I am so in loveee with this seriesss!!!! I am having such a freaking amazing time🤧🤧

in the beginning of the book we get a bit of cinderella vibes and they didn't disappointed.
we get to meet the guys pretty early in the book which i really appreciate because i needed something like that!!

we are in a society were girls need to be girls and be present to society like that but she isn't and it's not like the type "she is not like other girls" is more the type were she is "combating" the social norms, because of things that happen to her and without even "know it". I like how the author made it so simple and still in your face but still not giving our fmc the "she is not like other girls" type.

this book isn't spicy but I do like her first time🤭🤭 and I was not expecting it for her first time👀👀

I like the way this went and how it ended, I couldn't wait and jumped into book 2 as soon as I finished 🤭🤭😅

This should be a book I loved, but it was middle of the road for me. spoilers ahead.

Alright since this book was pretty long I'm gonna do sections to rate it!
Pippin:
I can't be the only one annoyed by how often we go through the looks right! I'm a boy, I have wide shoulders, I'm really tall, I shaved my head. For the first few times I was there, I got it, then it just made me roll my eyes. she has to be obviously attractive with this many men trying to marry her. So can we please lay off this repetitive thinking. It honestly was my major issue with Pippin. Other than that she was just fine. I wish she trained more and learned some actual skills because she obviously is pretty useless in this book, but I can't expect pig farmer to queen in one book.

the guys:
Soren:
I think he gets a lot of facetime in this book, but I wasn't overly attached to him, maybe it's because I'm not a huge fan of age gap, especially when it constantly gets brought up. 🙄 The one thing we can all say about Soren is he's old right? No seriously what else did anyone say about him in this book?
Flynn:
We don't really get a ton of time with him as a character and he comes off as someone who pretends to be light hearted when falling apart and I want to know more. Tell me your trauma Flynn.
Brom:
Stoic sort of leader, who isn't actually the leader because that's draven. That's all I got, he actually got significantly less time than everyone else. I am glad he tried to think of a plan later on rather than going along with the queen.
Ged:
This is Geds book. It's rough with RH because the guy you get to know first is almost bittersweet, they are all not far along in character development and the author decides that you will learn everything about this guy now. Bummer because his light hearted nature really moved this book along in places.
draven:
Girl, you can't describe a standoffish asshole prince with black hair and bright blue eyes then try and tell me they won't get together. please. As soon as this man popped up at the creek we knew she was a goner.

Overall, this book was a little too long and pretty slow moving at times. The FMC is at times incredibly annoying with her lack of conduct and lack of training. I havent decided if I'll be moving on yet because to be fair I was not connected at all at times during this read.

It’s been a HOT minute since I’ve dipped my claws back into a romantasy, but HELLO, this one grabbed me by the collar, yeeted me onto a dragon, and said “strap in, babe.” And honestly? I listened.

This is such a refreshing take on dragon riders, royalty, and the absolute chaos of magical schooling. (Sorry Fourth Wing girlies… but this was way more engaging for me personally. I said what I said.)

We’ve got our golden dragon queen named Glimmer — and YES I squealed because the name is perfection. Big, bad-arse dragons who would quite literally burn the world down for their queen? Inject that level of loyalty straight into my veins.

But the HUMANS? BABE.
Our FMC Pippin is a WHOLE FORCE OF NATURE. Funny, strong, stubborn, tired, traumatised, hopeful — she’s just trying to have a bit of peace and the universe said “lol nah, here’s a plot twist.” And she handles it like an absolute menace in the BEST way.

Sam Hall’s writing? Chef’s kiss with dragon fire.
Immersive, magical, emotional, and absolutely engineered to make you want to fight every royal in the kingdom while simultaneously begging for more. It starts giving Cinderella vibes… and then suddenly we’ve evolved into harem territory because we LOVE a why-choose and Sam Hall DELIVERS.

This is book one, and the way it ends?
The TEASE??
I am fully feral and sprinting to book two like I’m being chased by a dragon in heat. I need book 2 right now, immediately, yesterday.

DRAGON FOUND is the first book in The Dragon Queen series and reminded me (in a good way) of Anne McCaffrey's Dragons of Pern - albeit a whole lot steamier and with more political backstabbing and intrigue.

The male characters all stand on their own, being easily distinguishable from each other. Pippin is just a whole new level. She has been put through hell and come out the other side, determined not to be taken advantage of again. Glimmer is a sweetheart with a backbone of steel. I love Pip and Glimmer together and look forward to seeing where book two takes me.

Oh, and book two? One-clicked and pre-ordered the minute I finished this one. A brilliant story and HIGHLY recommended by me.

Was this the best book I’ve ever read? No.
But I had a good time.
Not as good a time as Pippa had though 😏

Wonderful storytelling!

I loved the characters, both human and dragon, and the slow burn romances entwined with political intrigue. Very well written, with lots of depth and good flow. The author's command of language just keeps improving! Can't wait to read the next one.

This is my first polyamorous novel. I really enjoyed the dragon politics and the in depth bond between riders and dragons. The romance was very spicy and overall, I liked getting to know the quirks about each character. I will definitely read the second book.

If you like fantasies with dragons and riders who are warriors, found family, political intrigue, and death threats, give this series a try. I did, on a whim and without reading reviews, and I am so glad.

The romantic dynamic in this book isn’t one I gravitate towards - in fact I generally avoid it. Fortunately, this story is a story with spice rather than a spicy story, and the story itself kept me reading even when I knew where it was heading. So if that’s something that makes you hesitate, don’t let it be the thing that stops you. Go along for the ride (wink) of Lady Pippa figuring out her place in the world, the romance isn’t as deviant as you might expect.

An amazing fantasy

I love Sam Hall’s writing and this story completely pulled me in! The world she created is fantastic and so well-developed, and I fell for Pippin and her guys immediately! Can’t wait for the next book!

I love how much detail goes into caring for a dragon. 4 stars just for that. It feels like something all other dragon series lack. I like the MFC. I enjoyed getting to know the others. Great start to a series. A lot of foreshadowing I can't wait to see the result of.
