This issue slows the pace down quite a bit, after the action packed and plot enriched first issue. There is a distinct lack of visceral action sequences present on the first issue. There isn't much presence of the titular character of 'Predator' as well.

Rather the author focuses more time building on the character of Theta, adding depth into both her inner struggles as well as her attempt of surviving the unforgiving and harsh conditions of the planet that she crashed on in the previous issue. The ending does set up next month's issue to have one intense battle though.

Despite liking some aspects of the issue which make this an enjoyable science fiction story, my main problem is that this doesn't really feel like a Predator comic at all. The sense of horror and intensity characteristic of fictions associated with the unique hunter species is distinctly absent here.

The drawing and coloring do the job admirably with depicting the desolate atmosphere of the planet as well as the desperation and turmoil the protagonist goes through. But I will be much more interested to see the action sequences drawn by these two in the future issues.

Like the first issue, I will give this one 3.5 out of 5 stars once again.

Not as enthralling as issue 1 but a nice followup and a great cliffhanger.

So, I said my piece about how I hate the timeline for this book last issue, so won't be going over that again here. One thing I will say, though, is that with that kind of not being a big thing this issue the series suddenly feels a lot more enjoyable.

Last issue we ended with Theta crashing her ship on an ice planet, trying to reach an outpost so that she can get more supplies and keep her ship running. Unfortunately, having crashed more than a hundred miles away, she's got days of walking across the frozen tundra before she can even get there. Thus begins a journey across the planet that sees her having to fight just to survive.

Not long into her trip, Theta gets attacked by a couple of scavengers who've stolen a hover bike from the outpost. Alien scavengers. I was honestly not expecting there to be non Yautja aliens in this series, but it looks like humanity found more than one species in the galaxy waiting for them when they left Earth. This kind of makes the condensed timeline feel a bit better, and it means that colonies, stations, and outposts that come up may not necessarily be human in origin, and thus could have existed a lot longer. It makes things sit a little better for me at least.

Theta takes the hover bike and uses it to cover the rest of her journey, reaching the outpost; where she finds no sign of life, blood on the floors, and headless bodies hanging. There's a Yautja here. Checking the security monitors, she manages to find a shot of the creature; one that shows it holding a familiar weapon.

So this issue really helped me to settle into this new world and story, and built the tension nicely as it set the stage for what's sure to be the main confrontation of Theta's journey. We get to know Theta a bit better on her journey across the ice, seeing her surviving in a harsh environment, and we get an insight into her head thanks to her pretty messed up nightmares.

But things are at their best once she reaches the outpost, and even though we're only there for a few pages the tension is palpable, with the cold, dark halls and empty rooms with small signs of combat reminiscent of the marines searching through the colony in Aliens. We know something bad has to be coming, and you're almost waiting for it to come around every corner.

It seems like this series has the potential to be really good, and this issue does show that. Hopefully, with conflict looking like it's going to be kicking off pretty quickly next issue, that's something that we'll get to see more of.

Another fun instalment. I am seeing a pattern with the other Extra Terrestrials. They are all a little too goofy looking for how I picture this universe.
That's quite the cliffhanger though. Can't wait to get my hands on #3 when it's out .

Filling up the gaps

story:
"Predator" by Ed Brisson continues with Theta gathering ship parts on Outpost Medway. But danger is never far and it might be even closer than possible...

rating:
Following up on the brilliant first issue the second issue is a small letdown but a necessary one. It's building up new ideas and archs wrapped in a pretty boring story of Theta trekking through the snowy fields of Tusket. Especially the ending will surprise you but the rest doesn't offer anything new or remotely interesting. Issue no. 2 really just fills up a gap and that's it. Art is pretty great yet again but can't really shine in the unitely white snow winds.

conclusion:
An issue made to fill up a gap which could be narrated within two sentences in a book. 2/5

This series is really drawing me in. I like the MC and her quest for revenge. The world is fun and hostile. The ending was great and has me eager for issue 3. The art is solid. As someone who hasn't invested in Predator beyond the original movie, this is doing its job and making me want to read more.

Another good one

The author is doing a great job here. It's been awhile since a comic series has had me on the edge of my seat.
