Amid the flames, nothing ignites me like Avery Claire.
She’s stubborn, strong, sexy as hell, and my best friend.
She also has no idea that I’m in love with her.
But Colorado is calling me home, needing every Legacy-born firefighter to successfully rebuild our fathers’ team.

But she’s tied to Alaska and my future is in Colorado.

And what my heart can’t live without.

4 - "I've never looked into my future and not seen you in it." Stars!

The second novella in Rebecca Yarros’ Legacy series, offers up another well-loved and personal favorite with the trope; best-friends-to-lovers.

Amazon US - www.amazon.com/Ignite-Legacy-Rebecca-...
Amazon UK - www.amazon.co.uk/Ignite-Legacy-Rebecc...

Seven years of being friends with secret crushes on each other suddenly turns into something when River Maldonado decides to relocate from Alaska back to his hometown of Legacy to be on the reformed Hotshot crew, thing is he wants to take his best friend Avery Claire with him.

"I want to explore these mountains with you, talk to you, laugh with you, make love to you…"

But things get sticky pretty quickly when it becomes apparent that Avery’s familial responsibilities are not going to make it easy for her to just up sticks and relocate to Colorado, and the drama plays out kind of as you would expect in that regard.

"I remember everything when it comes to you."

I really enjoyed Ignite, the author took a trope that I on the whole enjoy and delivered up a sexy and extremely sweet story about two people, both with responsibilities that could essentially take them away from each other. I have to admit I am not a fan of familial drama , and the basis of Avery’s issues was deeply rooted in this area, but Rebecca kept it steady, and just managed to keep it from being over-the-top, towards the end.

"From now on no head, just heart."

We get to see a little more of the other characters from Legacy, that were introduced in the first novella in the series as well, and I can’t lie, so far these two tasty treats have left me pretty satisfied, in relation to characterizations and general plot development. I am pretty certain that when the full length books start rolling out I am going to be absolutely blown away (as usual) by this authors stellar story-telling skills when it comes to her men and women and the relationships they are building between them, and I cannot wait!

Yep, another awesome read by Rebecca Yarros, loved Ignite.

From the first page I was taken in with River and Avery's love story.
It warmed my heart watching them move from best friends to lovers. I loved their passion, their strong friendship and their love for their family. These two were just perfect for each other.
And did I forget to mention how hot these two were together? **fans self**

Another winning addition to the Legacy series, Ignite introduces us to Avery Claire and River Maldonado and their realisation that the love they have for one another is much more than that of best-friends.

description

This series is really hitting the spot and Avery and River are another fabulous couple who bring passion and a little angst to the table. But Rebecca Yarros does a great job in balancing it with their blossoming romance, and the drama is necessary, but not overplayed.

"I’ve never looked into my future and not seen you in it."

If the two introductory novellas are anything to go by the Legacy series is one to watch and I'm so looking forward to the full-length additions to the series.

A short novella about River and Avery set in the Legacy world.
It's a SIPOC friends to lovers, first responder, small town romance.
I liked it quite a bit. I especially appreciated Avery's story who was struggling to deal with a verbally abusive addicted father.

4.5 stars!

This is the second novella in the Legacy series, a dramatic and heartfelt best-friends-to-lovers romance that is full of emotion, and I loved it!

This book takes please during the same timeframe as the first novella in the series, Point of Origin. And while you could read this as a standalone, I’d definitely recommend starting with the first book, which fully sets the scene for the series to come.

This is River’s story. He and his brother moved to Alaska from their small home town in Colorado to follow in their late father’s footsteps and become firefighters. It’s a job they’re both passionate about, and they have created good lives for themselves. And River’s life wouldn’t be complete without his best friend, Avery. They are as close as could be, and are secretly in love with each other, but neither of them have ever even tried to make a move.

These two are so freaking cute! They are fun and playful together, all up in each other’s lives, and it’s clear that they care for each other deeply. We (and pretty much everybody else in their lives) can immediately see that there’s so much more to them than just friendship. All it takes is one spark to change everything.

“You kissed me and I stopped being best-friend Avery and turned into…I don’t even know. Kissable Avery?”
He stalked forward until he stood just a breath away, close enough to touch, but not. “You have always been kissable Avery, I’ve just never been allowed to kiss you like I wanted. You’re also fuckable Avery.”

The shift from friends to more is effortless for them. And though it may come as a bit of a shock, it’s natural, and I love how they happily follow their hearts to explore everything they could be together.

And now the series tie-in – the first book of the series tells the story of a man looking to rebuild his late father’s team of hotshot firefighters after they were all killed defending their small Colorado town. River and his older brother are the children of the original Legacy crew, and they've been called home to resurrect and build on their legacy, and in his heart, River knows it’s where he needs to be. And he wants Avery to come with him.

“I want to make a life with you here. It’s not just about leaving my best friend behind, it’s about what we have between us – what we can be if we just give this a chance.”

Avery desperately wants a new life with the man she loves, but she has ties to Alaska and can’t leave. They’re torn between two impossible situations, and will have to dig deep to figure out how they can build the life together that they’re both so desperate to have.

This is another short read in the series, but again, it packs an emotional punch, and I was completely caught up in River and Avery’s story. I love them as characters, I love them even more together, and I loved watching them realise what they have and fight so hard to find their happy.

“I’m completely, madly, whole-heartedly in love with you.”

We get to see the characters that were all introduced in the first book, and I am so freaking excited for this series to continue! This is a great bunch, and I can’t wait to get to know them more.

I loved this one – 4.5 stars!

2022 Reread: I lowered my rating because Avery's reasoning read super dumb and frustrating this time around.

Not as good as Bash and Emmy, but still cute. I expect a book for each character! Keep them coming. Also Avery's dad is awful.

2.5 stars: I picked this up on Kobo+ and didn’t realize it was free when you sign up for the author’s newsletter. I was very invested in this story until the big break up. 🙄 Did I see it coming? Honestly, not really. I thought it was going to be avoided or the two MCs would’ve been mature about it and worked through things together. Nope. The age-old, stupid formulary for romance reigned supreme and made me want to give up. I hated how Avery treated River at that point. The fight was spectacular and I feel like it wrapped up too quickly after she crawled back to him. Of course, he just forgives her within a second and then the book ends. The epilogue wasn’t even that satisfying. Too short to even be called a chapter. I’m only rounding up my rating because I do like this author’s writing.

It felt like this was going to be a nice series of firefighter deliciousness. However, it looks like RY didn’t get any farther than this “prequel” novella and one full length book. I was bummed because I was looking forward to a book for River’s brother Bishop.

Kitty's review posted at Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews

The Legacy series continues and oh what wild ride Rebecca Yarros took us on this time. From Fairbanks, Alaska to Legacy, Colorado Avery and River kept us riveted to our seats waiting to see what would happen between them. River and Avery were explosive when they finally stopped dancing around their feelings. Then, when they did, I think it was one of the hottest fires that burned in Legacy.

River was such a ”man”. Brave, strong, totally in love with the woman who stole his heart from the first time he set eyes on her and, afraid to tell her. She was strong and fearless, loving and caring and had no idea that her best friend was in love with her. When his circumstances change and he is called back to Legacy to follow in his father’s footsteps, he has to come clean and take a chance on losing his best friend. He knows she thinks she has an obligation to stay in Alaska … it’s up to him to show her the life that they could have together. He’ll do and offer anything for her to come home with him and live the rest of their lives together.

Yes, Avery does have a huge obligation in Fairbanks and she’s letting it control her life. When River bears his heart to her, she has a huge decision to make. Walk out on her controlling, over-bearing father and start her life with River or stay there and be miserable. When she takes the chance to be with River, the inevitable happens and her life changes, again. Saying good-bye to him leaves her bitter, mad and absolutely heart—broken. It takes her sister, an over-heard conversation and an Aunt that will not let her waste away for her to see the light and accept that her heart and life are in Legacy beside the man that is her best friend, her lover and the love of her life.

Unfortunately, Ignite is a Novella so it was over quick. Much to quickly for me. But, as usual, Rebecca got to the heart of the matter … made us look at and realize how cruel life can be … gave us complete characters … showed us all sides of the story … then gave us an unbelievable happily-ever-after. She gave us a little bit of fun, a little bit of love and a whole lot of hot firemen.

**Even though Ignite can be read as a stand-alone, I wouldn’t suggest it. Point of Origin starts the Legacy series and introduces you to everyone and gives the whole back-ground story of the original Hot Shot crew along with the people left behind to pick up the pieces.

I am so happy that her story was in this bundle I read because it was probably my favourite from all the authors I discovered in there. Best friends falling for one another are always a big winner for me, but this one really got to me quickly.

From the moment he starts talking about her, I want them together. I want her to be in love with him as well. He shows such a tenderness towards her and he is very patient. Plus, he is just the sweetest towards her kid sister that he just screams PERFECT for me.

A lot is happening in their lives, not making it easy on them, but I liked that he never really gave up on her no matter how slow she was to finally stand up for herself.

I'm looking forward to read more stories in this series because I feel like I'm going to discover a lot of new couples I will fall for.

Oh this novella! I enjoyed the first in the Legacy series, but I LOVED this one SO freaking hard. I can't even pinpoint what about it made me love it so much, but if I had to say something more than "everything," I guess I'd start with the characters. While the first novella gave me the second chance romance I craved, the second one hit on another of my favorite tropes — friends to lovers. *swoon*

Avery and River gave me the feels. ALL THE FEELS. They pulled me in from the very start with their friendship and then hooked me when they started opening to the possibility that more was happening between them. I cheesy grinned my way through their initial trip to Colorado, where they were dreaming about the life they could have there together. I was devastated when responsibility called and it looked like they just might not wind up with their much-deserved HEA. I loved Avery's strength and dedication to her family, but I also wanted her to take a minute to think about what would make HER life worthwhile. Of course, it's easy for me to say that because I'm not in her shoes. River's determination to have her, to change her mind when things looked the bleakest, made me love him that much more. This one was a bit of a tearjerker, but I ended this story with a HUGE grin on my face.

I'm admittedly a little sad that there are no more Legacy novels to read. I hope there's more coming in the future. There are so many great secondary characters in this series and I really want them to have a chance to have their stories told.

FAVORITE QUOTES

Kissing him hadn't been the awkward first kiss of friends trying out something more. It had been like two magnets finally flipped so they were unable to do anything but collide.

"She looks at you like you're everything she's ever wanted, dipped in chocolate and ready for a tasty bite. Always has."

"I've loved you for seven years. It would take a hell of a lot longer than a month to stop. It would take about seven eternities."

“You are my fairy tale.”

Oh my am I addicted to the fierce family of firefighters Rebecca Yarros has brought to life. The Legacy series continues to wow me! I can’t get enough of the Hotshot crew! Like its title, Ignite burns with heart and heat, intoxicating from beginning to end.

Readers will fall for this heartwarming friends-to-lovers romance starring a hot firefighter hero with a huge heart and the beautiful and bold heroine who melts him. I swooned so hard, swept away by the spell Ignite cast on me. This fierce, fire-hot, and feel worthy love story kept me turning the pages.

River and Avery battle a palpable pull that’s irresistible. I loved the delicious inner thoughts … the glances when the other wasn’t looking … the longing. Oh did I feel the sizzle of their kisses! I adored how sweet River is with Avery, helping her become her best self. I admired Avery’s strength and selflessness when it came to her family. These friends on fire are magical together!

Enlightening, enchanting, and emotionally rich, this love story is a gem that bursts with beauty and brilliance. Its messages of taking risks in life and love, and living life to its fullest hit home for all. Irresistibly charming, this sweet small town romance tore at my heartstrings and never let go. The writing is pure ‘melt-your-heart’ magic. I can’t wait for the next Legacy sensation.

This is my first book from Rebecca Yarros and after this book, I'm definitely going to read the others.
I love this book, even it's short it still can bring a lot of emotions. I got a little teary at some point.
I can feel their pain and loss.
This book is about two people struggling to find their happiness with their responsibilities clouding it. It's about how to put their happiness first, when all their lives they're always put everyone else first.

As for the characters, I love them all.
River. He's a fireman and Omg I love him, he's willing to wait forever for the one he loves. He'll do anything even if it's hard he would do it.
Avery. She's a girl with so many responsibilities since young age, she always put everyone else first, always thinking a lot before making decisions. She puts walls so high around herself so she won't get hurt. Sometimes I want to shake and yell at her to take that risk and chance.

If you love firemen, if you love short book packed with emotions you have to read this one.
Yup you have to try this one.

- Les bestfriends to lovers 🫂

It looks like this is the last in this series, which is too bad. I'd have liked to see how things when once the whole Legacy was back working. The romance part to this one was predictable, yet very enjoyable, right up until Avery had her showdown with her father. Learning was she said made me admire her so much and glad that she got her HEA with River, she deserved it!

heartwarming romance

I love reading novellas that pack us much emotion into 130 ages as a full-length novel. River and Avery are a special couple, best friends who finally take a chance on love, but there are many complications to resolve before they can be together forever. I loved their passion, their devotion, and their tenderness.
