V.F.Mason always loved reading books and had quite a few fights with her mama over the genre she liked (romance, duh!) She studied filmmaking and thought that would feed her desire for stories, but that didn't happen.
Finally, when she was tired of all those voices in her head, she sat down and wrote a book. It was a huge decision to make and she thanks her friends and family for supporting her in it.

Fantastic conclusion to the duet! Heart of the Villain picked up exactly where the previous book left off in it's crazy cliffhanger. This book is a little slower paced than the first one, but provided us with a lot of background and insight into Rush's life and how he became the person he is. Aileen and Rush work so well together because she is the light to his dark and they balance each other perfectly. VF Mason fans will be thrilled to see cameos of a lot of our favorite heroes in this book as well. Can't wait for the next one!

ONE WORD. AMAZING. I’ve been waiting this story for a year! And it’s finally here and i read two books and it’s so freakin romantic 😍😍😍😍 I always said to myself I’m thankful to be able to find this author cause the novels that this author write is so freakin great! Just like I wanted😍😍
↔️THIS REVIEW WILL BE ABOUT THE FIRST AND SECOND BOOK.↔️
THE FIRST BOOK is more of a introduction about the heroine and hero and how they meet for the first time and how they get to know one another so it’s more about their first history… THE SECOND BOOK is more about the rest of their history together and how their future is going to be like and how they’ve come through…
I LOVE HOW THIS STORY explains and it written is well… not too confusing and not too boring… So even though this book contains a few violence and dark past and dark history about the hero and the heroine’s father, it explains so well in a way you really understand without be like “yeah yeah we get it already”. If you know what I mean lol. That’s why I don’t get bored when I read from this author… cause i easily get bored when the writing of the book is too confusing or too much, but from this author i never get that. It’s always so fun, addicting and made me more curious than ever….
It’s a dark love story but to me it’s not too dark though, it’s also a slow burn not too annoying and not too long….

The hero is not a manwhor3…. The hero’s personality is very complicated one, not too complicated just very though. But not too annoyingly complicated… He has a very very dark past in his childhood time and of course he suffer from it. But even though he been through all of that hell, he always treat the heroine physically and mentally so romantic… He never brings up his past a lot to the heroine, only when she wants to or ask to or the situation demands… The hero stalk the heroine for quite some time even when the heroine was dating someone else. He stalk her and put cameras on her room, hack to her phone and knows everything she’s doing with her phone and almost everything he really stalk her on that 😂
‼️‼️‼️THE HEROINE is a dancer and very very smart beautiful human being. She’s very nice person and friendly.. not too sassy tho. She is well known to be very smart since she’s a child and almost like a nerd sometimes. But not too much lol. The heroine got into college when she was fourteen years old and that’s how smart she is… I love it when the author made the heroine like this because it’s very refreshing unique the character is to be like that😍 And also the heroine can speak many languages, she’s studying psychology and she loves learning history😍
Before the hero officially date the heroine, the heroine was dating with someone else in two years. But they never have s3x tho, never even made each other come. It was weird but I’m glad that happened🤣 Her ex was a great guy too, and they made appearances only like two-three times… Not too much so don’t worry.

Heart of a Villain is an angsty and action-filled finale to this beauty and the beast inspired love story. This duet is full of vengeance and tension, and a lot of past baggage- just how will these at-odds characters figure out how to make it work?
Our story begins right where we left off- with Aileen captured by Rush's enigmatic but potentially nefarious twin brother. Despite the complications of his feelings, he has to come to terms with the tensions and vengeance of his lust for her in order to bring her home and pave the path forward with her and against his enemies. Along the way, we get to see these two discover more about the truth of the past, lean into their feelings, and discover all the truths amid a few twists.
This book definitely had a bit more momentum than the former, though we have what felt to be an inordinately amount of length flashback sequences that while I believe intended to be illuminating and character defining, at times feel more like lengthy distractions from the pivotal moments in the present- and ultimately started to feel a bit repetitive once we understood more of the trauma. This is a new to me author, so I'm not sure if this narrative choice is a common one, but the balance of flashback and present felt a bit off kilter. Rush and Aileen also gave me a bit of whiplash in their relationship, but I also loved that we got more substance to him. I did like the evolution of them as characters, and the twist and finale action was all super entertaining. All in all, a couple I rooted for- and the epilogue was just really, really adorable, perhaps the most rewarding part of the story.

The Heart of a Villain is the second book in the Beauty and the Villain series, a mafia retelling of Beauty and the Beast.
When it comes to writing and pacing, I prefer the first book because it is much more engaging. When compared to this one, the thrilling emotions and angst are much stronger.
I wouldn't say I was particularly impressed here, but I did feel that it dragged most of the time.
The ending also felt anticlimactic to me, as did most of the rest of the film, which is inconsistent in its storytelling.
Overall, I believe this was a letdown.

Great conclusion to this duet.
I loved Aileen and Rush's story. The way that the first book ended left me eager for this book to get my answers. It was as suspense-filled as the previous book, if not more so. This book picked up where the other one ended and just kept picking up steam.
I have to say that my fears of a major confrontation between Rush and Lachlan had me on pins and needles. How would I choose between these two men? I couldn't wrap my head around how things could get so convoluted that Rush would believe that Lachlan could do what it was that Rush was seeking vengeance for. I, realize that Lachlan is not a good man by society's standards but in the same breath, he is by ridding the world of unsavory scum. The pieces all fall into place and things make sense. I am not saying that this was an easy ride because it wasn't. There was one point in the story when I gasped and had to hold my heart because of what happened. It GUTTED me. It will take a while before I forgive the author for doing that to my already struggling heart!
There were great cameos of old characters in this one. They make me want to go back and read their stories again. There were also hints of what is to come and I am 1000% ready for that. My only complaint in this book (besides the near heart attack) was the flashback scenes. They helped the story and made the pieces fall into place but it was at times jarring how long these flashbacks were and how often.

Loved this dark, raw, emotional and intense story filled with suspense, secrets, betrayal, lies and love, which all leads to a steamy and all-consuming riveting page turner. 4.5 stars!

I fell in love with Rush in book one and book two broke me. My poor Rush. I love everything he has become. And I will say that this book helped me understand Aileen much better. I absolutely love these two together. Can I say Lavender is probably one of my favorite characters! Oh and let’s not forget Raphael.
This book kept my interest much better then book one. I couldn’t put it down. Grab a copy and tell me what you think!!

The Heart of a Villain brings the drama filled, emotional and action packed conclusion to Rush and Aileen's story. While the first book set the stage, this one is all about finding all the pieces of puzzles.
Aileen has been taken away by her once upon a time best friend aka crush Rush because he now thinks her father is the enemy and he had to take his revenge. At the end of book one, she got into the evil clutches of Rush's twin. Rush slowly gets to know that his vengeance may not be the whole truth.
This book had a bit of the same issue as book one..that is going back into the past repeatedly to show the cause and effect. It was taking away the tension. I loved Rush even more in this story. What a beautiful and twisted antihero. If broken and deviant alphas are your jam, it is for you. The age gap makes Aileen look a bit immature but I like how her innocence stands in contrast to Rush's darkness. I felt bad that she got caught into the complex web of lies and deceits. But she grew a lot as a character. The chemistry was definitely there and the angst was even better that book one. It was a good combination of passion, angst and suspense.

Nothing like a smut filled Beauty and the Beast retelling to begin the year! Lots of action, great plot and angst. Of course, can't forget the spice. Rush thought he could use Aileen for avenge his mother's death. But not all he knows is true. Plot twists changes the course of his actions but can Aileen and Rush live HEA?!

“What happens when a Villain falls for the one woman he shouldn’t?”
The cliffhanger of the first book left me speechless and desperate to know what the fate of the heroine will be. Thankfully it’s not a long wait for the second book and we are given a lot of things to dwell in this action-packed conclusion. Rush Wright, The Hero who he claims himself the villain, must face his estranged twin for him to save Aileen, the heroine. In this book, we are enlightened on what went wrong to Rush, his relationship to his twin brother, his family and why does he need to seek revenge towards Aileen’s Father. There are a lot of flashbacks, stories told when he was young. The hardships, the cruelty he had faced and how he survived all of it. It was revealed that Rush is not aware of the real villain in the story and his anger and vengeance was misplaced.
Aileen’s childhood crush to Rush blooms into intense attraction given the fact of Rush seducing ways. She’s young but has knowledge and logic in mind to know what went wrong and she used it to survive and to save his father from Rush’s wrath. Aileen learned that her father has a dark past and was involved in Rush’s Life. Although her father’s actions are justified, still it made her question a lot of things, still she chose to believe her Family over Love. The first half of the book is quite a slow burn full of emotional conflicts that involves Rush’s feelings. He is conflicted as he is falling for Aileen, but his revenge outweighs it. Will he give up Aileen or still go with his plan.
When everything was revealed, the second part of the book is just so exciting to read and I want to know more about the Dark Proteges, Rush’s twin and his unwilling wife. This Dark romance book is filled with a lot of emotions, realizations, drama, twist, and surprises that will make you crave to read more. The author made me cry and gasp at that devastating moment, which I cannot divulged but thankfully it's not a sad one, she got me there good! Another thing that I love about this book is how the author made the morally grey character shine and to make things right for love by providing a delectable grovel scenes. I'm so glad for that epilogue.
Overall, such a great Beauty and the Beast inspired story.

Now it's up to him to save the woman he is warming up to , all the while still searching for the answers that have been plaguing him right from the start. What happened all those years ago? And is the man he has spent on hating for all these years , really not that involved in everything? I guess time will tell.
Overall Opinion :
The second book of this duet is here! I have been waiting for this second part forever. The cliffhanger of the last part completely shook me and I wanted to read what happened next so bad! Lachlan also played such an important role in this duet. He was an amazing character as always. This duet has been amazing and I loved the ending a lot because it totally made me a bit nostalgic. Not to mention the fact that a side character of this series will be getting a book too! So excited for that one! Definitely recommending this one to all the dark romance loving people out there.

V.F. Mason is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. I am so happy I decided to read this duet. The story picks up right where book #1, Beauty and the Villain, ended and the was non-stop until the very end. There were some tear jerker moments as the author loves to tease her audience with moments of despair and heartbreak. Rush absolutely stole my heart and he is now one of my favorite anti-heros. I did enjoy the first book better than the conclusion, however it still filled with scenes of darkness, spice, and gut-wrenching moments.

This is the conclusion of Aileen and Rush's story so be sure to read Beauty and the Villain first. This book quickly had me sucked right back in and totally captivated. The combination of fierce emotions, juicy drama, thick tension, sultry steam, delicious darkness and tantalizing twists was intoxicating and irresistible. So good! I am independently posting an impartial review.

This was a great conclusion to the Beauty and the Villain duet. I couldn’t wait to find out what was going to happen in Rush and Aileen’s story. This story is dark, emotional, and intense and I was hooked on this story! You learn a lot more about the characters and why they are the way they are. I would highly recommend!

Best book she's written so far. This was so good. I've been waiting for this duet to release ever since she announced it and as usual I was blown away. This kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. Pulse pounding, nervous wreck of a good time. I cannot wait for her next release.

Sigh * I actually have no words, I'm just speechless, still trying to compose myself. This book shook me!! And it's not about Aileen and Rush, it's about Lachlan and His love for his little princess!! God I'm tearing up wiritng this review, I have never read anything like this before where the author wrote and expressed so beautifully about the unconditional love between a Parent and his Child!!! *Sighing in contentment* 😍❤️ Lachlan's Love, his fierce protectiveness, his strict dad Mode, the way he cared about his babygirl!! Ughh! I just can't! I'm becoming very emotional!!
While I loved Aileen and Rush, but in this story Lachlan Won My Heart Through and Through!! He is the best Fictional Dad I've ever read about. When He was injured, I almost died, I thought He died! God 😭 if our author killed him then I don't think, I would have pulled myself together ever!! It was the worst pain I experienced in my life!! And I don't wanna remember it ever!! Horrible!! 🥺❤️🩹✨
Anyways!! Coming to the story Rush wasn't my ideal hero, I'm only giving the duet 5 stars because of its beautiful full of secrets and mysterious plot, all the interesting Hot as hell side characters , and our Lachlan obviously!!!
Aileen 's character was the perfect mix of strong, innocent and intelligent! It was well portrayed, only if Rush were a little bit more possessive of her and accepted his feelings for her sooner, except he kept on denying his feelings ended up hurting Aileen back to back! I didn't like that!!
Apart from this, the story was perfect, when I was reading it, I actually felt myself being a part of their world, it was like a movie!! So so good! All of it the story the plot the secrets the actual villain and Aileen 's family!! 🔥 🥵 😏 🥺❤️
Perhaps that's why I was so heartbroken and sobbed like a baby in the middle of the night when Lachlan got injured badly!! I thought I was gonna die, the pain was worst. But in the end everything and everyone Got their Happy Ending including our Hot as fuck Villain.😘
Lastly I'm requesting our Author, to write Dante and Caroline, Levi and Lavender 's story asapppp.

Wow!! I loved the conclusion to this duet. The first book was more of a build up and very little pay off...but with this book we finally get down to business with backstories, shocking truths and revelations.
I was hooked from start to finish. Rush & Aileen’s romance was beautiful, their intimate moments were fire and made my belly flutter. The plot surrounding Rush’s backstory and his family was dark and upsetting. So much pain, torture and death. Be warned, this book has dark themes. So if you’re not into that then this ain’t for you.
Even tho this is short duet, both books didn’t feel fast paced, the consistency stayed throughout and no time was wasted.
Overall I think I prefer book 2 to book 1 but as a complete story I’d give them a solid 4.5/5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!!!

This is the second and conclusion part of Aileen and Rush’s journey. This is a well written tantalizing story, which is dark, raw, gritty, and with angst, drama, family, twists, vengeance, emotions, and love, which leads to a compelling and addictive delicious page turner.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

This is the second book of a duet so Beauty and the Villain must be read first.
The Heart of a Villain shredded me to pieces. My heart was broken and my soul shattered.
I cried ugly tears and was crushed with what I was reading.
So much pain and anguish and destruction brought to innocent souls by vile despicable people.
So yes I’m glad there is a group of men in a world Ms. Mason brings to life that delivers their own form of justice. It is just saddening though that they had to live through their own anguish to do so.
Aileen is caught in the middle of so much mayhem and chaos. Which brings her life swirling out of control. Different parts of her warring within herself. What is right, what is wrong has her in a tailspin.
Rush’s decisions and his plans years in the making spiral out of control. His one purpose in his life to avenge the death of his beloved mother and rain hellfire on the one responsible.
But he’s so blinded by his vengeance he doesn’t see what’s clearly in front of him.
I absolutely loved Aileen and Rush.
Both are strong incredible characters.
Aileen’s strength comes from being her father’s daughter.
And Rush’s comes from all he lived through and survived.
Both determined and set to have the outcome they desire which leads them to always budding heads.
But what is undeniable is the connection they have for one another.
It’s intense and fierce. It’s electrifying and has an energy that is like a living entity.
Their lust cannot be contained no matter how hard they try.
No matter that she is the enemies daughter and he wants to kill her beloved father.
Their chemistry sizzles and ignites like an uncontainable explosive fire.
The passion for one another is steamy and sensual and a once in a lifetime type of thing.
What the villain never thought he’d find. And where beauty least expected it.
Their tale is one forged in fire and baptized in an unquenchable desire.

The Heart of a Villain is the spellbinding conclusion to the Beauty and the Villain duet and I could not put it down! Picking up right where the previous book left off, I found myself fully immersed in the story and eager to just what would happen next. This novel is fast paced and full of action, suspense, steam, and romance. Be prepared as it is a dark romance, a trope that this author excels at. There are some surprising revelations and while I figured out the main plot twist early on due to the breadcrumbs the author wove throughout the story, I was still on the edge of my seat and reveling in how it all played out.
In this novel, the author pulls Rush’s layers back and reveals his unique and heartbreaking backstory. He remains a possessive and obsessive anti-hero shrouded in darkness and he burrowed his way into my heart! I really enjoyed seeing his character growth as the book progressed. Trust me, you will find yourself swooning! As his character was further developed and with learning more about his past, I connected with him much more compared to Book 1.
Aileen still has moments where I want to talk some sense into her, but I feel the author did an excellent job of illustrating that while she is mature in many ways, she is also young and was somewhat sheltered. This is what makes it so difficult for her to grapple with her feelings of things that occurred throughout the story. Nonetheless, she is a relatively strong and likable heroine that matured in many ways.
As a couple, Aileen and Rush seem unlikely with his darkness contrasting with her light along with the significant age gap and yet they are perfect together! The evolution of their relationship was well done and there were several scorching hot scenes between them! This duet can be read as a standalone, but I do recommend reading Lachlan’s Protege as that will enhance the reading experience (Lachlan is Aileen’s father). If you’ve read this author’s other works, you will be thrilled with all some of her other characters making appearances. While I enjoyed Book 1, Beauty and the Villain, I absolutely loved The Heart of a Villain.

Lots to Unpack
In The Heart of a Villian, V.F. Mason picks up right where the first book left off. This review may contain spoilers for book one.
“A twin who has no regard for the law, and the other who follows it to a dot.”
Aileen finds herself in a precarious situation with Rush’s twin and now she’s got to figure out a way to escape, but back to Rush? The whole thing is messy and you can tell it was going to get messier before V.F. Mason could clean it up for us.
This time around instead of letters, we went back into the past with the twins to really find out what happened with their parents. Why Rush hated Aileen’s father so much he wants him to pay with her suffering and what we find is eye opening.
“My desire for you will be my greatest downfall.”
While I still wasn’t a fan of Aileen’s character, I did keep reminding myself of her age and that because she’s a brainiac, that didn’t necessarily mature her. This villain has his hands full dealing with a sheltered girl that technically isn’t ready for this kind of relationship he is envisioning. Rush grew on me a bit more, as did his twin and of course George and Willian. I don’t know why, but I loved them as supporting characters.
The book is well written and I like to categorize it as heavy on my shelves rather than dark. As a fan of the dark genre, this isn’t it, however also isn’t a sunshine and rainbows book others may appreciate. There is some humor and plenty of sexy to balance out the storyline as we head towards the end. While predictable, it was a crazy ride with these two and we get a nice epilogue to wrap things up.

This story continued to surprise me. I thought I had figured out who the real villain was by the end of the first story but quickly realised that I was mistaken. It took a bit longer but I figured out who the real villain was in this tale. However I was surprised by the depravity and extent that this character went to in order to win. There were several other surprises along the way and it kept me entranced the whole time. It wasn't surprising to see why Rush became who he was but he let revenge cloud his judgement. And it almost cost him everything. Aileen was placed in a difficult situation but at the heart of it she wanted to find a way for both men she loved to live. So much happens in this tale that I'll let you experience it for yourself. Some brilliant and heart warming moments, heart stopping ones and lots of steam await you. Not to mention glimpses of the other characters and their lives. It only makes you crave their stories to understand how it all unfolded. This was a great duet with a villain realising that while darkness consumed him, light set him free.

Aileen has a new mission as she awaits rescue. New questions are revealed as she searches for answers. Emotions get more entangled as the Villain considers opening his heart. I don't want to give anything else away but this duet has made me a fan of VF Mason for life. I am dying to dive into her backlist!
One thing I know for sure, Aileen and Rush will stay with me for some time. The pulse-pounding action, addictive plot, angst I crave and serious heat made for one hell of a ride from start to finish. I am so excited for Rafael's book coming next year. I couldn’t recommend this duet more but only for dark romance fans. This is my honest opinion, freely given.
