Polyvagal-Informed EMDR: A Neuro-Informed Approach to Healing

Rate this book
Linking two cutting-edge approaches to form a robust healing model. Polyvagal Theory and EMDR are two well-respected theoretical and practical models with immense implications for therapeutic practice. Polyvagal-Informed EMDR outlines a comprehensive approach for integrating Polyvagal Theory into EMDR Therapy. Individually, each model offers powerful pathways to healing. Combined, these models supercharge therapy and the recovery process. The integration of Polyvagal Theory within the eight phases of EMDR Therapy offers the psychotherapist a robust, dynamic, neuro-informed framework for case conceptualization, treatment planning, and client transformation. The approach applies not only to work with trauma and PTSD, but also in the treatment of addictions, anxiety, depression, grief, chronic pain, and adjustment disorders. EMDR therapists will find a method that maintains fidelity to the evidence-based practice of EMDR and aligns with current neuroscience research. Topics covered include the nervous system and toxic stress, neuroception, adaptive memory networks and autonomic resiliency, neuro-informed history taking, and the importance of therapeutic presence. Clinical interventions, scripts, and handouts are included for all eight phases of EMDR, as well as case examples and opportunities for experiential practice. This is the first book to treat these topics assessing complex material and presenting it in an approachable, engaging manner. 7 black-and-white illustrations

Perhaps the best book on EMDR I have ever read. Kase writes with expertise, insight, sensitivity, and gentleness. Reading this book reminded me of the high honor of being able to use EMDR (and co-regulation) with clients and get a front-row seat to a potentially life-changing experience. I got to be trained by Rebecca Kase for my own EMDR orientation. She’s the real deal. This book is the closest experience to getting to personally pick her brain about how to be an effective therapist with clients. I highly recommend!

This book is superb and the best EMDR book I have read. Kase is concise, clear, and direct. She brings EMDR and Polyvagal Theory together seamlessly while providing an outline for practical application. This has already impacted the work I do with clients and I look forward to integrating this more deeply into my practice.

I wish I could give this book 10 stars. It is absolutely the most helpful book on EMDR I have come across. I love the practical suggestions on how to apply PVT, but am most grateful for the way it deepened my understanding of EMDR....even more helpful than any consultation I have had since finishing my training. Fantastic book!

Rebecca‘s integration of Polyvagal theory with EMDR is brilliant! Her clinical depth and pragmatic insights weave a nuanced understanding of how to safely cultivate inner healing. This book is as significant as Porges and Shapiro’s clinical contributions, and should be necessary reading for any trauma informed clinician. Bravo and thank you Rebecca!

This is one of the best EMDR books I’ve read! Totally changed the way I think about EMDR and therapy in general. I was able to listen to the whole thing without getting bored or losing focus. Highly recommend to any clinicians in the EMDR community!

Combining Emdr with Polyvagal theory ie. healing in memory storage and in our body (sympathetic nervous system). I’ve gotta say I learned more about the nervous system in this book than in my entire reading repertoire in this career so far. Thank you Rebecca Kase!

This is a great book clearly combining the two modalities with theoretical underpinnings as well as practical applications. Very digestible and immediately useful.
