Thank you Goodreads giveaways team and author Bert Murray for a kindle copy of New York City Crime Stories: Book One

This is my review.

This book can be tagged under True crime, NYC, short stories, mystery, thriller, and suspense.
Since it’s only 98 pages it’s a short review.
This is book one of three.
Each chapter has a different crime and aftermath.
I found myself yelling out loud no or OMG. So I was invested. As soon as I got into the stories the book was over.
I would read more by this author in the future.

What the hell 😂 ok this was a goodreads giveaway winner and I was excited about this because I love true crime - the overused phrases “are you crazy?” And “stupid ass” are nearly in every story which makes me think this isn’t true crime and these seem more made up. The author clearly has it out for NYC and the crime going on there - it’s mentioned in nearly every ending sentence. This was a flop. 👎🏻

I was debating between 3 or 4 stars. I chose 4 for the book itself. These are very short stories which each follow the pattern: A-Set the scene B-Describe crime C-Emergency services D-Results/effects of crime event. Everything was laid out in a nice neat summarized description of the circumstantial persons/events/evidence, and the crime including psychological behavior, mode and means.
It read almost like an attenuated crime report.
The only downfall was the Virtual Voice.
The text is necessarily blunt and a reader with proper inflections would really help (would do it myself but not sure of how). Bringing to final level of point: I live a ways from Manhattan, almost like a different world out here in Idaho. Nonetheless helpful for me to see what happens in the cities.
I have only read New York City Crime Stories, book 1, but I also have book 2, and plan on taking a look at your other material.
Good Luck on this new beginning, God be with you!

Interesting Subject Matter

Only gave 4 stars because YOU NEVER KILL THE DOG!!! It’s all gut wrenching enough to watch or read news lately. This Covid crap has really got everyone out of sorts. Very sad to read everything going on in New York and larger cities throughout the county.

Short stories about crimes committed in New York City. Each has its own story behind the crime that effected the person that was victimized. Most of the victims said they thought where they lived was safe . But since then decided to move away because to many bad things happened there now.

This sounded like a little kid wrote some reports. Then before putting these papers together for this "book" he threw in a lot of four-letter words in the threats and demands so we could realize these were "bad guys" who these innocent people tried to just tell to go away and leave them alone, to let them live their normal lives. But these helpless people were then robbed, beaten, stabbed or shot. The author advises it is no longer safe to go anywhere anymore as crime runs rampant in New York City.

Rounding up from 2.5 stars

This book of short stories is very mundane. The crimes depicted in this book are just simple muggings and a physical assault or two. When they said that these crimes were from the headlines, I was hoping for more noteworthy stories.

Won this book as a Goodreads Giveaway. Interesting book to read, series of stories talking about crime in New York City. I enjoyed the way the stories were written without adding a lot of filler to lengthen them, was like reading a police report. Rounded this up from three and half stars.
