The Court of Secrets

Rate this book
Darkness can only survive in the hearts of the wicked.

I was brought back from the edge of death by Morgana so I could reign. But whilst there, something had latched onto me, and it had no plans on leaving. With each passing day, I feel my heart growing darker and it becoming stronger. Struggling to suppress the beast within, I lose myself in the scandals and politics of my kingdom. Caught between the high priest-Vahaga-and the lords of the land, being in power has never seemed more difficult.

The threats of war with Berovia looming on the horizon means I need to remain strong for my people. My coronation nears, but with the mystery surrounding my father’s death coming under scrutiny, being back at court has never been so dangerous. Especially for a queen.

Oh my heart!!! I wish I could go back and experience these books for the first time all over again. This book exceeded every expectation I had for it. Rebecca Garcia truly went above and beyond to deliver us an epic finale for the Fate of Crowns books.

I’m so proud of Winter. Seeing her grow as a character from beginning to end was phenomenal and I can safely say she is one of my favorite female characters. And Blaise, I had high hopes for him ever since I met his grumpy self in The Fate of Crowns. Let’s just say Blaise has landed himself a spot in my top favorite book husbands of all time. ;)

Now that the series is finished I can’t wait to have all the physical copies of these books on my shelf. Thank you Rebecca for this wonderful series.

The Court of Secrets, Rebecca L. Garcia’s final book in The Fate of Crowns series is a nail-biting conclusion, and I loved every second of it!

Winter has grown and changed so much throughout the trilogy, and I love her character arc. Winter learns so much about what it takes to be a ruler – learning to compromise, asserting herself when necessary, and thinking of the greater good. With a darkness growing inside of her and a kingdom to run, she has heavy burdens, and so many people are not looking out for her best interests. It seems as if every time Winter takes a positive step forward, she ends up being pushed two steps back, and I wondered if it would be possible for her to achieve her goals, help her people see the truth, protect those she loved, and end the corruption in her world.

There are several shocking revelations in the book, and Winter is faced with betrayal, deceit, and so many manipulative people that it’s impossible for her to trust almost everyone. And, for a time, the ones she knows she can trust are not with her. However, Winter isn’t easily daunted, and she repeatedly shows what a strong woman and leader she is. Seeing Winter rise to become the leader she never planned to be is fantastic.

And Blaise! I just love him! Talk about a tortured hero! Like many of the characters throughout the series, Blaise’s intentions seem questionable. However, he proves where his love and loyalty lies in this story, and I loved it! He is more honest and forthcoming with his feelings, and he fights for what he wants. Blaise is desperate to get rid of the curse cast upon him, and he and Winter do everything in their power to make this happen. Of course, many obstacles stand in their way. They need to hunt down several objects to break the curse. They also have to go on some dangerous journeys and deal with many precarious situations. Through it all, Blaise fights for his future and the future of his people. His character is so well-developed, and his actions and words are positively swoon-worthy!

Throughout the trilogy, there was a bit of a love triangle, which I don’t generally love. However, in this series, it totally worked. Winter is torn between two very different men, and she ultimately has to make a choice. Some really shocking things happen that make Winter’s choice much easier. However, her relationships with these men are complicated. Curses, pain, lies, prejudice, miscommunication, and more affect her feelings, but deep down, Winter knows there is only one that she truly loves. Once she makes her choice, the romance is wonderful, passionate, and everything I hoped for.

This story is action-packed, and there’s never a dull moment. From finding out about the lies in her kingdom, betrayals coming from every direction, the threat of war, the attempted murders, the surprising revelation about magic, and the love triangle, this story will keep you at the edge of your seat. I read it in one sitting and didn’t come up for air the entire time. I couldn’t wait to find out what happened next, and I was so satisfied with the conclusion. There are great messages about power, corruption, and love, and more.

This is a fantastic conclusion to a fantastic series, and I can’t wait to read more by Rebecca L. Garcia. As this is the third book in the series, I would definitely recommend reading the first two books before you read this one. This isn’t really a standalone. That being said, I highly recommend the series, especially if you like fantasy with strong female protagonists, great world-building, a ton of action, and an epic romance!

This book! The ending was just perfect and I'm in so much awe with how well the story grew and developed from book 1 to book 3. I really feel like I've been on an epic journey and I'm so glad I was able to experience it.

Winter has the most amazing character growth and I can't help but be so proud of the way she handled things and showed what a true queen she can be. She's a morally grey character but inevitably she makes the decisions that will save her people.

There is adventure, sacrifice, magic, heartbreaking moments but ultimately there is love. And Blaise has exceeded all my expectations and has earned a spot as one of my fave book hubbies.

Overall, this series was amazing and I can't wait to get all the physical copies so I can reread the whole series again. Thank you Rebecca for writing this series!

I have received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The Court of Secrets is the third book in The Fate of Crowns series. Now this entire series has been so much from from the beginning to the end. Each character, storyline, betrayal and twist made this series so easy to devour. I also feel like Winter is such a likable character because she hates being underestimated by people. Whether they are on her side or not. She will always give you hell and prove everyone wrong.

Besides Winter, there's Blaise! Oh man! I loved him and have loved him ever since the very beginning. At first, I was very suspicious.. but then again - I'm suspicious to anyone and everyone in any book. So when he kept trying to prove himself to her, well, I couldn't help but root for him. On top of all that, well, a curse of a sort. Which definitely made things very interesting and made this book a complete page turner.

When any book has a court, there's bound to be a ton of betrayal. So when a high priest is behind it all... well, I got a 3 musketeer's vibes. Which definitely made this even more interesting and entertaining. Throw in a possible love triangle and you throw me off. Sorry, not sorry, but I'm not a huge fan of those.

In the end, I'm so happy that I got the chance to dive into this book and I can't wait for the next book that Rebecca writes!

ARC received from the Next Step PR. Voluntarily reviewing and all opinions are objective and my own.

HOOKED. I was HOOKED when I read this. Hardly put it down. I got so invested into the characters, and especially with her romance. If I had to compare the interesting multiple relationships in this book to any other, it would be The Court of Thorns and Roses, in which I liked Tamlin, but then I liked Rhys more. I liked Blaise, but then I didn’t. I liked Cedric, but then I liked Blase more. Holy, the plot with Cedric there…! I was freaking out! In the end I’m glad she got the ending she did, although I did get a bit of whiplash there.

Very satisfying book. I think it tied everything up very nicely. This series is such an adventure for Winter and quite an enjoyable one to read about.

If it wasn’t for the writing, this would 100% be 5 stars. I found a lot of telling in places I would have loved to be shown, but still all in all, extremely solid story!

WOW! Rebecca has written yet another amazing book! I actually started rereading the first two books and the novella to experience the whole series in one blow. And WOW, Rebecca did not disappoint! Reading the whole series together really showed the growth Winter has had throughout the series.
The story is AMAZING! Once I started reading it, I had to keep reading to see what happens next!
We get to revisit some characters from the past books. And I do wish we got to see some more of a "certain" character but other than that it was Great! The ending is just AMAZING! Don't want to go TOO into it because you will want to experience this book on your own. And I hope you like this book and the rest of the series as much as I do or more! ;)

Thank You, Rebecca, the Next Step Pr, and Netgalley for an eARC to the book!!!

It took me a few days to get over the fact that the series is over now.

It was a great finale with shocking revelations, thrilling plot twists and beautiful romance. I thought the book would rather focus on the plot but the romance, but this book contained the absolutely sweetest moments and I was over the moon with Winter and... well, you’ll have to see for yourself ;)

I loved the series from the beginning and I can’t wait to hold the hardback copies in my hand. Thank you Rebecca for such a lovely series with such amazing (complex) characters.

The Court Of Secrets is the epical ending to the Fate of Crowns fantasy series. Oh My Heart what a explosive climax and ending to this perfect series.

What I loved:
Well detailed world building descriptions and settings.
Multifariousness of characters
Compelling characters
Writing style
Unparagoned plot
Bombshell Revelations
Romance and Love
Never a dim-witted moment
The ending is perfection!

A perfect blend of ingredients to create this wonderful series including betrayal, curses, magic, love triangle that works well (I'm not a fan of love triangles but this works as it enhanced the story), and endangerment.

One-Click this young adult fantasy series for your pleasure you will not be disappointed.

Wow! This novel was a great read! More action, adventure, romance, betrayal, and magic! Winter has survived much from the first two novels and is now ready to queen of Magaelor. However, Winter carries with her secrets that if discovered will cause her to lose her throne and kingdom. Just as there were threats outside of her kingdom, there are threats from within. Battle an evil within her has her seeking out Blaise, the fae that is occupying her thoughts, not matter how much she wants to deny it. Winter discovers much within her own court and the secrets kept from her, including the high priest. She will have to make difficult choices for the sake of her kingdom, risking those she cares deeply for. The evil within continues to grow and if she does not find a way to stop it, it will consume her.
I received this novel as an ARC from net galley and the publisher. Thank you! All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Epic conclusion to a fantastic series! The Court of Secrets went above and beyond any expectations that I had for the final book in this amazing series. Since the first time I picked up book one, I haven’t been able to put this series down.

Winter Mortis is a strong female character who grows exponentially in this series from a frivolous teenager to a powerful queen. She makes decisions to truly help her people thrive and fix the mistakes of the past. I have also enjoyed watching her relationships bloom, especially with Blaise!

This is one of the best character growth and romantic stories I have read in a long time and I highly recommend the entire series.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Talk about an epic conclusion!

Winter's incredible journey back to her court will leave you dazzled. I couldn't imagine trying to be a someone worthy of holding the title, Queen, and doing it with half as much grace as she has. She's fearless in her pursuit of making the kingdom better and providing for her people. And then, when she finally does allow herself some semblance of happiness, it's constantly being ripped away from her, yet, she still remains strong. She uses her mishaps, tragedies, pain, and heartbreak to be a better person for her people and for herself.

Winter is an inspiring character who continues to push forward, no matter where the journey takes her.

The Court of Secrets blew me away by the tension, betrayal, and forthcoming love. Through the blood and curses, Winter strives to be a light in the darkness for everyone, including herself.

The Fate of Crowns series is an incredible addiction that keeps you peeking around every corner, wondering what will happen next. Definitely a 5-Star Must Read!

This truly was the perfect book to conclude this amazing trilogy (unless you count the Prequel RUIN ;) ) The emotions were raw several times and the attention to detail amazing. I throughly enjoyed the book.
The Queen had to be a true queen and everything she did was not just survival for herself but for her whole kingdom in so many ways.

The Court of Secrets by Rebbeca L. Garcia is the third book in The Fate of Crown trilogy, and is a YA paranormal/fantasy romance.

The Court of Secrets is right!! Dang the secrets in this one are detrimental!!

Like with the first two, this book is constant, always moving and full of action and twists and heartache.

Fantastic conclusion to a wonderfully magical trilogy.

This marvelous story comes to an end in this gripping finale. You learn so much in book 3 and it is indeed a court full of secrets. Blaise is still my favorite and he’s the perfect book boyfriend. It’s hard to believe that the spirit realm is a hoax. It was also pretty hard to find out Cedric and Winters relationship was built on secrets and deception. Winter and Blaise are such a perfect couple I always knew they belonged together. I couldn’t stop reading this final book. I read this book in a matter of hours and anyone who’s drawn into this world will absolutely love book 3. This author is AMAZING and has once again captured my heart with her whimsical magical stories.

I'm so happy with this conclusion! There were still tons of twists and turns and action/fast-moving plot from beginning to end. After the last book (The Princess of Nothing-book 2) and Winter's love square, I was really wondering how this giant spider's web was going to be untangled in time for the ending.

I couldn't read it fast enough! I am happy with the way it ended. My questions were answered and explained well in a way that was unique and made sense. Winter is not 100% ok because of all she's been through in these books but, she'll have some help recovering.

I'd love to return to this world and maybe a story from another character's perspective or in another kingdom or maybe from the perspective of one of the merpeople. I feel the kingdom and magical creatures were well-explored but I'd still love to read more.

I'll definitely be re-reading when the audiobook comes out because the narrator-Amanda Stribling-is excellent in Book 1.

Thank you for the free eARC NetGalley, The Next Step PR, and Rebecca L. Garcia. It was my choice to read and I'm leaving this review voluntarily.

I got the ARC from Netgalley and Rebecca's team and I want to thank everyone for it ❤️

Dear Rebecca, I have just finished this book and I really... I want to shout for joy.

Winter is my favorite female heroine, I like the growth process she has, in the first book we saw her fail, but with each book her evolution has been fantastic.
Morgana 😭😭😭😭😭(I'm still heartbroken)
Cedric became one of my favourite characters, and now I say: I need to know more about his fate, I wish we had a little book about what became of him 🥺❤️.
And Blaise.... The love of my life (and the life of Winter) , from the beginning I was team Blaise and I cried with the ending, one that lets you know that not everything will be perfect but it won't be bad either.

Thank you Rebecca, you are the best author🥺❤️, I can't wait to read more in the future.

The Court Of Secrets is Rebecca L Garcia at her best!!....the whole series has been completely captivating and truly brilliant but the court of secrets is the perfect showcase of talent Garcia has!

"There is a lot of gray area between heroes and villians, Winter. You fall somewhere in between, and it only makes you human"

And absolutely fantastic conclusion to a brilliant series!
Instantly swept back into this magical world , the story continues where we left off, Winter must now embark on the fight of her life not just for her kingdom but for her soul too, with betrayal around every corner and heartache galore can she hang on to her crown and her sanity before darkness wins the final epic battle.

Such an exciting read , I've loved being lost in this wonderful world from the very beginning, Rebecca L Garcia has such a beautiful writing style, the stories she creates are so detailed you are completely captivated ,the character development throughout has been a joy to read and I don't think I'll be the only one that's sad to say goodbye.

And I cant finish without a mention of my favourite character, Blaise, he stole my heart from the very start and see his journey along with the rest has made my heart happy ❤

"I'd die for you and live for you, over a thousand lifetimes"

I cannot recommend this series or this authors books enough, I cant wait for whatever is to come next!

Big thanks to Netgalley and Rebecca Garcia for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Disclaimer ** I did not have a chance to read the first 2 (actually there is 3 before this one including the prequal)

Winter is the Queen only because her brother, the original heir, died. She must navigate her world and bring peace between her kingdom and the fae kingdoms. This is difficult, in part, due to animosity toward the separate races.

So... again this was the 3rd in a trilogy, and I didn't get to read the first two so there is some lacking relationship information that was likely given in detail in the previous books. Winter starts off with the light fae being her boyfriend but it very quickly dissolves and she immediately is with the dark fae so she can remove the curse he has to feel no love.

There wasn't a lot of tension, the relationships were just .... done. I'm a fan of the bad boy troupe so she picked the right one anyway! Other than being a bit brooding, and wincing once in a while, the curse seemed to be not that terrible. He clearly loved her so...

Over all I'm giving this one 4.5 stars... having a bit of background (reading the first 2) should have been a priority of mine. (maybe later!)

What a marvellous conclusion to Winters story as Queen of Magaelor, I couldn't put the book down as I needed to know what was happening at all times.

The writing was magnificent and the story was what kept me hooked. Winter is such a strong person but I love the fact that she leans on others when she needs them and knows who to turn to and when to use their strengths. I'll definitely be recommending this series to others. Can't wait to see what Rebecca L. Garcia does next.

The Court of Secrets was an amazing conclusion to The Fate of Crowns series. I completely loved how this series evolved and kept was just a fantastic read from start to finish. As this novel is part of a series, it is highly suggested that you read the first two before beginning this one. Although I read all three back to back, there is enough information to remind the reader of previous events as a recap without going overboard with repeating information. From book one to book three; the reader has been taken on an epic journey alongside the characters. There was so much development over the three novels that this was the perfect conclusion and I cannot wait to reread the series all over again!

Winter Mortis, now 19 years old, is the Queen of Maegelor, but things in the kingdom are still in shambles after events from the previous two novels plus new dangers that are presented. Her coronation is coming up and Winter has a need to prove herself worthy to the lords and to the people that she is meant to rule. Although she was a strong female character before, she has grown a lot and has become a force to be reckoned with. She no longer blindly trusts those around her and thinks that what she was previously taught is the only option. Instead, she has become a lot more open-minded and just wants what is best for her kingdom and its people, even if it is not the popular option. I was honestly a fan of her when I first started reading the series and now she has become one of my top characters. Her character growth was very well done and none of it, to me, felt forced. All of her learning along the way felt natural and I loved that she was not perfect, so she felt very relatable.

There is a lot happening in this novel as everything, including Winter’s love life, are wrapped up and there are a lot of secrets and new dangers presented. The writing does sometimes tell instead of show, which might not be for every reader. For me, I did not mind it in this series as it seemed to fit and not seem as if it was forced. (Other readers may feel differently.) The shocking revelations, the betrayals, the secrets, and the action itself were all well done and kept me captivated. I actually ended up reading this in a single sitting as I wanted to see what will happen next. The plot is very complex as there are a lot of pieces at play at the same time. Many of the puzzle pieces that fit together from the previous novels remained as-is or were broken due to some secret. It made the plot itself very dynamic as many problems needed maintenance and were not fixed and forgotten.

The characters in this novel are well-done and I found myself invested into all of them. There were many characters that were good and evil with many morally grey characters, so the overall field was very realistic as there is always a mix in any group. King Blaise, a Dark Fae of Niferum and Prince Cedric, Light Fae of Berovia have a lot of secrets that come out in this novel and it is very interesting to see how it all plays out as individual characters and as love interests for Winter. I suspected who Winter would be with by the end and the way it was written was very well done. I would love a spin-off for both of them, whether it be tangent stories to accompany this series, prequels, or even sequels as I loved both characters. For me, it did not matter if Winter ended up with one, the other, or neither, as I just loved the dynamics and also adored each of the characters. Morgana was excellent and I loved her character as she was just fantastic all around. I loved how many of the secondary characters that were featured along the way were all brought back in one way or another as it gave a lot of closure to them. Some got a lot more closure than others, but it still was refreshing to see most of them have some type of ending as many novels tend to leave them out in favor of only wrapping up the plots for the main characters.

Overall, I am thrilled that I took the time to read this series as it was well worth it, although it is very difficult to believe that it is over. As I am tried to keep this review as spoiler free as possible, there is still a lot more that went through my mind regarding this novel and series. The book’s only downfall was that I wanted more and I could have read more novels featuring all of the different characters. Again, I would love spin off novels for almost all the characters, including Aquarius, Cedric, Blaise, and Morgana (honestly I would take any character) as I thought they were all complex and well-written. The novel balanced the adventure, character growth, romance, and mystery well without leaning too far in one direction, which I appreciated. The entire series went above and beyond my expectations and I absolutely cannot wait to see what the author comes up with next!

**I want to give a special thank you to Netgalley, the publisher, and the author for a review copy of this fantastic novel. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.**

Received in exchange for a honest review.

First and foremost if you have not read the first two books, you will be completely and utterly lost in this one. You need those books to follow this story and plotline. The Court of Secrets picks up where The Princess of Nothing left off.

Our characters have grown in each book more and more. For Winter, she has had her eyes open to everything around her and even more in this book. She doesn’t see things the way she did and she has had to fight to get back to where she is. She is strong and stubborn but also more fair and real. In this book, her eyes are opened more and she is at a crossroads. One that makes you see how much she has matures and shows you she will be a great queen. She does what is right for her people and doesn’t care about the consequences to her. She sacrifices for what is best even if it hurts her.

Her relationship with Blaise I wasn’t one that wanted it at first. I was not a big Blaise fan I tell you. To me he was ruthless at times and just not in my radar of one to get all happy about. I was all for Cedric I really was. He helped Winter open her eyes to things and he was kind and understanding. That is until the truth came out and then I was all Cedric you are not a good person.I get the whole it was for my family thing but seriously that was not nice. And Blaise after that started to blip on my radar because no matter what he was honest and real. He didn’t sugarcoat or hide things. And you could truly see the love he had for Winter and how that love pained him and yet he still stood by her side and fought with her for her people. You got to see that he wasn’t a bad person, he just did what he had to for his people and for Winter. Winter you get to see her cunning ways as she navigates the politics at court at does what is best for her people. She makes you proud. Blaise you see he is a great guy and that curse just had him be a turd.

The story of her relationship with her mother was nice. We saw that she matured and her mother did as well. They learned the truth and stood together in the fight for what was right.

Overall the story really keeps you on your toes. There are pirates, betrayals, romance and forgiveness. There is sacrifice and growth of characters. We see loyalty and honesty as well. Winter grows so much and her relationship with Blaise is one that has you smile as they grow and work together and support one another no matter what. They go through some tough decisions and hardships and both make sacrifices for their people. Winter shows that she is what her people need in a queen in this action packed book full of romance and tough choices. This was really well written and a great way to end the series. I do hope though that we get to see these characters at other points in a book or two to see how things are going because you get invested in these characters and want to know how their kingdoms and they are doing.

A rich and fascinating trilogy in an original and well-constructed dreamlike universe. Winter, Blaise and Cédric offer us an adventure full of twists and turns, dangers and magic. Feelings, betrayals and other political strategies further spice up the reading. We find it difficult to leave this world and its characters to which we have become attached but it is for the best ...

The Court of Secrets
The Fate of Crowns #3
Rebecca L. Garcia
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Winter Mortis has been brought back from death by Morgana so she could reign as Queen, but something evil has latched onto her, and wants to control her. Now with each passing day, Winter feels her heart growing darker. She's struggling to suppress the beast that lives within her as she loses herself in the politics and scandals of her kingdom, but she's caught between the high priest who wants to see her fail and the Lords of the land.
Being a Queen is alot more difficult then it may seem.

There are threats of war with Berovia and that means she has be strong for the sake of the kingdom. As her coronation nears the mystery of her fathers death is being examined like a bug under a microscope and being back at court has never been more dangerous. Especially now that Winter is Queen.

Rebecca Garcia is fabulous. She takes you to fictional lands that are chalked full of the fae and that means some are bad and some are good. From the minute I started reading this book it consumed me. I was transported to these lands and felt like I was right there. This was an epic ending to a wonderful series. Ms. Garcia you always know exactly what your readers want and I can't wait to see what you come up with next.

OMFG!!!! Can this story get any better? From the very first book Fate of Crowns to this final book, I was hooked and I am even more addicted that ever. Court of Secrets is all about Winter and her journey to rule her kingdom, but the challenges she has to overcome to get there has been gruelling and maddening. This final installment of the series gives us the polital side with Winter having to find her place in her Kingdom, to stand up for herself and to make people hear her. I am so very impressed by her and her strength is undeniable. SHe is truly a survivor and my hero. We cannot forget to talk about the love interests in Fate of Crowns, it was epic and every good story needs a good twisted tale of romance and betrayal.

One of the things I enjoyed most from the series is how Rebecca puts so much effort into detail. It was the detail and the characters that hooked me. The worlds she described were beautiful and magical. The characters had depth and meaning. I will forever have WInter in my heart and this series will reqire rereads for years to come. Breathtaking and Magical, a must read for all ages.

It was ok…..however those fellow readers who are also in the Sarah J. Maas family will find this series lacking subsistence. There’s no hearty steak, potatoes, and big piece of chocolate cake with this; it’s a small salad and water. But if you go into it with low expectations, just wanting something to read to pass the time….this will work.

This book was received as an ARC from Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

Having read Fate of Crowns and Princess of Nothing and how exciting they were, I expected nothing less of The Court of Secrets and I must say....Rebecca Garcia saved the best for last. The ending was so jaw dropping that I literally dropped the book out of my hands. The journey, the voyage and of course the victory all left me breathless. Watching all of the friendships and relationships evolving was such a treat and such an honor to experience as a reader. I am always a fan of a remarkable trilogy and since it has been a while since I have read Fate of Crowns and Princess of Nothing, I think it's about time to re-read all three and relive the journey, yes it was that good. I can't wait to do a special edition of the teen book club featuring this series and see the thoughts and discussions that will arise.

We will consider adding this title to our YA collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.
