Burger lovers - this one's for you!

Almost every type of bun, bread or wrap was used or suggested for the tons of recipes in this beautifully illustrated cookbook. The burgers looked so delicious!

The author does provide some recipes for the different sauces he lists in his recipes, but you can also use store-bought mayonnaise, BBQ and Teriyaki sauce..

The Hawaiian Pineapple Smash Burger has simple enough ingredients.: two pineapple ring slices, some mayonnaise, Teriyaki sauce and ground beef - plus some basic condiments - will result in a feast for your eyes and your stomach!

The Texas BBQ Smash Burger lists Texas Toast Bread, Monterey Jack Cheese and 4 large onion rings as a few of the ingredients for this towering masterpiece! (It looked downright yummy!)

For you health conscious burger eaters, the California Smash Burger with Avocado, Bacon, and Ranch dressing should hit the spot! (In my opinion, bacon is not necessarily high on my list of healthy foods, but... whatever!) This looked and sounded fantastic!

Want some more tantalizing burger suggestions? Try the French Dip Smash Burger, the Onion Soup Mix Smash Burger, the Italian Smash Burger (WIth, you guessed it, PIZZA SAUCE!), the Lettuce "Wrapped" Smash Burger (for the NO CARB'ers out there), the Donut Smash Burger (using two glazed donuts!!! Hmmmm!), the Bacon Guacamole Smash Burger, PEANUT BUTTER SMASH BURGER!!! - which has you adding a tablespoon of creamy peanut butter, bacon AND 4 dill pickle chips!!! Oie! The Mac'n'Cheese and the Cheddar on Rye Smash Burgers both sounded tame by comparison, but I was grateful for the tamer ingredients! There is even a Copycat Big Mac - Smash Burger Style recipe!

The author also ventures into pressed paninis and wraps: there is even a Cheesy Vegetarian Pressed Sandwich recipe that will save the day for that unexpected vegetarian guest!

. This is a very versatile, often entertaining, cookbook: your mouth will definitely water a time or two - or three! Highly recommended! My thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for an ARC of this cookbook in exchange for an honest review.

This book is right up my street!!

The photography in this book is spot on! Makes every item of food look amazing, and makes me want to eat it! There is not one dudd in here. I just wish there was more photography... ideally for each burger/sandwich mentioned.

I thought the 'copycat' sauce idea was brilliant, and although i haven't yet tried it myself I can't wait to try the big mac version!

Really great ideas in here!

The cookbook Smashed caught my eye as I've seen more online about cooking burgers on a flattop vs grilling and we recently just bought a flattop to go on our grill. The book contains only 60 recipes (the ebook was only 146 pages long) and the majority are a variation of the basic smash burger recipe they have, with each new recipe only having variations in toppings, sauces, cheese varieties or buns. The remainder of the recipes were for basic grilled/deli sandwiches, wraps and chicken sandwiches (which were similar to the beef burgers but chicken). This might be a very good choice for a very beginner cook, but a more experienced, creative cook will already know how to change up toppings/sauces/buns/cheese on a basic burger and might not find this cookbook as useful. . The pictures were wonderful as were the explanations for how to do the "SMASH" on the flattop.

This is a book you can just drool over the pictures! Who doesn’t love burgers or wraps? You are given so many variations and even given ideas on sauces and fillings that you will be happy for many quick meals to come. Just give it a try you won’t regret it.
Thank you NetGalley and (publisher) for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.

I had never heard of Adam and Brett Walton before I downloaded Smashed: 60 Epic Smash Burgers and Sandwiches for Dinner, for Lunch, and Even for Breakfast – for Your Outdoor Griddle, Grill, or Skillet. They have an outdoor grilling YouTube channel called the Waltwins. I’ve watched a few of their most popular videos and they are fine. They are fine and so is their cookbook.

The bulk of the cookbook is beef burgers and I’m going to tell you a secret – anything you can do with ground beef you can also do with other ground meats. I bring this up because they have a robust selection of beef burgers and an anemic selection of chicken and pork burgers. It does a pretty good job of explaining how to make a basic smash burger and then it mostly riffs on toppings and size. The Molly Smash Burger is the most interesting burger in the book. The recipe comes from another YouTube grilling show, The Gallery Backyard BBQ.

And here’s where my real complaining begins – If you do not already know how to grill or cook, you still need to do further research or watch videos on their channel. Even if you do know, they include some directions that are either not explained or described incorrectly. For example, The Molly Smash Burger (named after a dog, not MDMA). The Molly is a stacked smash burger with griddled onions and cheese. The burger meat is rolled in brown sugar so the smashed patty will have a sweet, crispy crust. The recipe includes three ingredients that are used differently depending on if you read the book or watch the video on the original creator’s site.

2 teaspoons salt (to taste)

2 teaspoons pepper (to taste)

2 teaspoons garlic powder

When your edges start to brown, flip and season with the salt, pepper, and garlic powder.

This recipe is two smashed burger stacked on top of each other and makes one burger. If you follow the recipe as written, you are sprinkling a teaspoon of salt, pepper, and garlic powder on each patty. That is a lot. And even if you use less salt and pepper, because the directions say “to taste,” you are still directed to put a lot of garlic powder on each patty. That seemed odd, so I went to Tommy Scarano’s video. He seasons the onions with a pinch or two of a mixture of salt, pepper, and garlic. That’s a very different process and is going to give you a much more pleasant outcome than a layer of garlic powder on your burger patty.

In the intro to the Oklahoma Onion Smash Burger (I have a difference of opinion about how these should be made, but nobody asked me), they say that steaming the bun while the meat and onion cook makes a better burger, but then they don’t describe how to steam a bun. They do describe how to toast a bun. Because I looked it up, I know that steaming and toasting are two different things. Is this something you would know if you watched the Waltwins channel? I don’t know. I do know that you won’t learn how from this cookbook.

The authors clearly love their beef burgers. I do wish they had been more thorough in their explanations and directions, and more imaginative in their non beef recipes. Ok, I’m going to make one more complaint. The Texas BBQ Burger is just a burger with bbq sauce. Texas bbq is primarily about the smoke, not the sauce. So a smoked burger would have been more appropriate, or a pressed sandwich with smoked brisket. It’s not really important.

I received this as an advance reader copy from Quarto Publishing and NetGalley. My opinions are my own, freely and honestly given.

Looking for a fun cookbook full of smashed burgers and sandwiches? Smashed: 60 Epic Smash Burgers and Sandwiches for Dinner, for Lunch, and Even for Breakfast―For Your Outdoor Griddle, Grill, or Skillet by identical twins and popular You Tubers, Adam and Brett Walton is one such book that will have your mouth watering.

Anyone who loves burgers will want to make almost every burger in this cookbook. While it also has chicken burgers, chicken sandwiches, and paninis. The introduction explains how to “smash” the meat and use it in delicious burgers and sandwiches. The authors have good imaginations, and have come up with sandwiches that will appeal to everyone. The recipes are written in the traditional manner with the ingredients listed first, followed by step-by-step instructions that are easy to follow and can be successfully made by both beginning and advanced cooks. Most of the recipes are fairly simple and easy. The notes preceding the recipes are helpful and also show the humor and personalities of the authors which makes the book fun to read even if you’re not presently cooking.

The cookbook includes beautiful, professional photographs of almost all of the recipes, making it difficult to decide which recipe to make. Sandwich lovers will be kept busy making yummy smashed dishes for months. This one is highly recommended and will be used often.

Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.

This is a fun cookbook for making smashed burgers. About 2/3 of the book are variations of smashed burgers and the rest are smashed chicken burgers, wraps, breakfasts and such. There are photos of about half of the recipes. No nutritional information is provided. Some recipes are given for various sauces. It’s not well suited for people with special dietary needs other than a token recipe or two.

The elephant in the room is that most of these are incredibly unhealthy. The authors are twin men in their thirties whose family apparently loved these kinds of recipes and from the way they talk, they’ve already lost both parents. I speak as someone who’s lost a lot of loved ones too soon from diseases like diabetes and heart disease. Perhaps it’s time to stop being quite so preoccupied as a society with fixating on tasty but harmful foods. Just because you can make a smashed bacon cheeseburger with glazed donuts as the bun doesn’t mean you should.

That said, it’s a well done cookbook and the smashing technique is well explained.

I read a temporary digital review copy of this book via NetGalley.

A mouth-watering collection of easy to replicate smash burgers. The photographs are beautiful and a great reference for what the final product should look like. I just wish there was a photo for each recipe. Each recipe uses easy to find ingredients and can be made either outside on a griddle or in your kitchen in a skillet, making them accessible for any cook. The introduction explains that using two spatulas can be substituted for the burger smasher so no additional equipment is required (unless you don’t own two spatulas or a skillet). I’m always a fan of a list of tools and staples needed at the beginning of cookbooks so you can be prepared for your first try. There is nothing overly difficult but some recipes require more prep work than others, particularly the Poutine Smash Burger, but this might still be the one I try first (I love poutine!). Bonus points for including chicken burgers, burritos, and a few vegetarian options. Perfect book for the upcoming summer to wow friends at the BBQ but easy enough to make for a weekday dinner.

I received a copy from #NetGalley for an honest review.

Thank you NetGalley for this E-arc in exchange of my review.
Actually I shouldn’t thank you at all, as I am sure to put 20 kilos after wanting to try and eat all the recipes ! I could have eaten the book if it was not on digital ;). The pictures looked really appealing. I have to say I absolutely love smashed burger and always looking for the best ones to eat. When I saw this book, I thought that I had to have it and I had to try it. I am at the review phase, didn’t try yet but not going to be long before I pick one of the awesome recipe.I have to say I am also curious about some recipe like the donut smashed burger. The recipes look fairly easy to do and has a good variety of ingredients and combinations of taste, that make the recipe looking really good !
If you are like me and will be happy to sell your soul in exchange of a smash burger this book is for you !
I really can’t wait to try the recipe and also I think it could be a nice book to offer to people, I already have some people in mind.

Smashed is a cookbook with many different recipes for super thin burgers or sandwiches. The authors even included some breakfast recipes! Dessert was the only thing missing There are tons of amazing photos included. I appreciated that the weight measurements are in metric along with imperial.

I plan to make at least a few of these recipes, and they sound like they could easily become favorites. The three I’m most excited to try are the taco smashed burger, the ultimate grilled cheese pressed sandwich, and the pressed breakfast burrito. They are not the only ones that made my stomach growl, but those three made it growl loudest!

I’d recommend this to any home cook that loves thin burgers with loads of flavor. The only possible special equipment one might need would be a griddle, but a large heavy skillet could be substituted, or a couple large spatulas to smash the meat or sandwich.

I was given a copy of this book for an honest review by Netgalley

I was lucky enough to read this through NetGalley as a bookseller.
I tell you what… run, don’t walk - run to your bookshop to pick up a copy (or order one).

The recipes in Smashed are not only mouth watering but so easy to follow. If you’re just starting out, like great burgers or you’re a 5 star chef, I truely believe this is a cook book for every cook & every kitchen.
There is such a wide amazing variety of burgers, sandwiches, wraps etc etc with so many great tips & tricks to achieving the best outcomes!

I’m in Australia & I was a little unsure if this would be in imperial measurements but was happily surprised to find it’s in both imperial & metric. Another great feature is the clear pictures - we all love a cookbook with pictures right? This is another tick on the list for great cookbooks!

Who does not love a good smashed burger with those delicious crispy edges. I love them and wished that I could make them at home too. This cookbook, teaches you how to smash burgers at home. It includes four different chapters with easy to follow instructions. It is also a fun design.

As I mentioned, the recipe instructions are easy to follow. The recipes include tips. They also include fun descriptions for each burger, which is nice but I would have preferred pictures. When I am looking at a cookbook for recipes, I like to look at the pictures first and then if it looks good then I like to read the recipe. This book had some pictures, but not a lot. Another thing I wished that it had was nutrition. Burgers can vary wildly depending on the toppings, so it would be nice to have some nutrition to review.

Lots of awesome recipes in this book -- I just wish they had more photos to go with those recipes. I don't understand folks putting together cookbooks and not including full color photos of each recipe. I want to SEE the finished product.

That being said, this book was great -- lots of fun and interesting recipes, easy to follow recipes, normal ingredients not a lot of crazy stuff not in your pantry already. I've tried the Texas BBQ Smash Burger as a chicken sandwich and it's so good! I'm planning to try the Pressed Monte Cristo French Toast Sandwich next.

Thank you to NetGalley, the authors and publisher for a digital, temporary ARC in return for my review. I wasn't aware of these authors prior to reading this cookbook, but I'll be watching for more from them!.

"We knew that if you simply SMASHED EVERYTHING, there'd be something for everyone to enjoy!" This from the books introduction seems to be the main concept of this wonderful cookbook.

It has a plethora of variations on the popular Smash Burger but goes beyond that with burritos, panini and wraps, with lots of drool-worthy pictures.

The Walton twins give advise on tools and tips you will need to make the best smashed foods to feed yourself and impress others.

I received this ARC from Quarto Publishing Group – Harvard Common Press and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review, thank you so much.

I received an ebook copy from NetGalley in exchange for a fair review.

Smashed is a cookbook you probably didn’t know you needed! I mean, how hard is it to cook a hamburger?

But really, this book is super thorough- there are so many interesting combinations of toppings, buns, sauces, and other cooking techniques that it’s definitely worth checking out. I love the idea of the Molly smash burger (made with brown sugar), and the breakfast smash! There are also panini, burritos, wraps, and other sandwiches that will get your mouth watering, with lots of interesting sauce and seasoning ideas to up your grilling game. Definitely recommend it if you want to experiment with burgers and grilling!

You should never look at a cookbook when you're hungry…

I'm so overwhelmed because I want one of everything!

Surf & Turf Burger? Yep, please!

Peanut Butter Burger? Weirdly intrigued!

Monte Cristo? Yes, yes, and yes!

And, yes, I'm aware the last one isn't a burger, tho it could be. Can we put in a request for the next cookbook?

But the beauty of this particular book is that it takes you on an adventure with several classic sandwich recipes added in.

If you're a fan of bread concoctions, this is the cookbook for you.

Smash burgers are the new trend if cooking. You may be familiar with the Walton twins from their YouTube videos of smash burgers. This is their cookbook to take smash burgers to the next level. The only thing missing from this book is smellivision because I wish I could smell them on the grill. The pictures are beautiful enough to make your mouth water. There is a smash burger for every taste, and not include ground beef. You might like the smashed pastrami melt or even the chicken ceasar wrap. Whatever you chose to try you will not be disappointed.

I thought this was such a great cookbook. I am always wanting new ways to do burgers and sandwiches. I like how they have recipes for outdoor griddle, grill and the skillet. Not everyone has a grill and only can use their stove and it is nice to see that. I like how there are recipes. for not only the burgers, but sandwiches. And that there are recipes for any time of day. I highly recommend this for anyone who loves burgers and sandwiches.

This is a great and unconventional collection of smashed burgers, sandwiches, paninis and pressed wraps. The combination tend to be fun and interesting, if not unconventional at times. Bacon and peanut butter don't really sound like an appetizing mix but to each their own. Otherwise, these are great meal ideas and there is even a section for breakfast recipes. It is an enjoyable collection of recipes.

If you like or want to try smash burgers, get this book. If you like easy, tasty recipes that include breakfast, lunch and dinner...get this book! Ever thought about making a poutine smash burger, it's in there, too. The best thing is that you probably have most, if not all, the ingredients already. This is a great book -get it.

A wonderful book full of easy recipes to follow and pictures to go along with most of the creations. I really did not find anything to dislike about this book at least for me. Everything was done step by step and really straightforward forward and even some of the sauces that they used were easy to make as well. A very good book for grilling smashed or if you have a panini and also breakfast sandwiches as well. I received this book from Netgalley.com

Pure Deliciousness!

The cover of this book is pure deliciousness and it hooked me on the book! The recipes were inspiring but approachable which made me feel as though I could make them and be successful. The recipe instructions were easy to follow and well-defined. But, I felt there should have been more pictures. Still, within three days of getting an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review, I was inspired to make my own smash burgers…and they were good!

Smash burgers are definitely enjoying a 'moment' currently and it's trend I can get behind, especially with all of the variety and delicious recipes in Smashed! I like the inclusion of classics to quirky twist, that will give a recipe for everyone. It's helpful to have the equipment list at the start as I definitely will need some of these to cook these dishes perfectly. I can't wait to make the Hawaiian teriyaki burger for sure!
