This is fine, right?

Asking for a friend.

It started as a fun read (again) but by the end I was crying. Hit me right in the feels 😭💔

“I wasn’t a reflection of her deepest, darkest curiosities, or a death wish. Vivien truly wanted me for me. The truth and reverence in her eyes rocked me to my core. Death finally had a wish of his own. To keep her by my side for the rest of eternity.” ❣️💀

This second book was just as engrossing as its predecessor. This starts in the aftermath of Grimm and Vivian’s blood bond and she isn’t dealing well with the implications of being controlled by the blood bond she now shares with a certain hold of the dead.

Vivian is still fighting her feelings tooth and nail whilst Grimm has had somewhat of an epiphany and wants her to accept the inevitable as though she affects his control and makes him vulnerable he knows she’s a gift.

There’s also the little problem of unknown persons targeting the current hierarchy and Vivian being allowed to exist brings all sorts of agendas out of hiding and when a certain soul-eating god is stolen putting Grimm’s existence in peril if they don’t retrieve it in time to save him the race is on.

This was again filled with humour as well as danger. I did want Vivian to stop being so stubborn in regards to her turbulent feelings but she got there in the end and her background does cause her to react this way so I recognised why she struggled with her current situation.

When Vivian and her god finally seal the deal it was all I had anticipated. They both have delicious chemistry and it was worth the wait. This ends on a HFN with plenty of anticipation and breadcrumbs revealed for the upcoming final instalment.

It’s again well written and again an easy read and it managed to keep the momentum going throughout another winner that was very enjoyable and I’m happy to recommend reading this series.

Ya this book missed the mark. I was excited after how the last book ended and jumped right into this one but it just wasn't the same. I still think the plot is cool and interesting its just the characters for this book just seemed different than the first book. Not planning to read the third book in this series.

No. Just no. What in the heck did I just read? Is this even the same author??

I. Kid. You. Not. I started this novel IMMEDIATELY after finishing book 1. I didn’t even bother waiting until the next day to start it after shamelessly swallowing the first one down whole.

I adored the first novel. I gave it 5 stars!! I wrote a long and heartfelt review as to why I had fallen so deeply in love with it and how the characters had me totally enamored and thrilled to tag along for their journey. I waxed poetically about the first one SHAMELESSLY bc I loved it so much! 💗💗💗

So wtf is this?

Who even are these characters anymore? Where am I? What the h€ll happened to all of the things I gushed about in my review of the first one that was supposed to make this series amazing for me? Why. Why. Why!

So let’s talk.

This was a hollow, fast fashion, cheap Chinese chachki churn-out of a novel. This, was garbage.

The FL’s wit and humor and scathing comments were juvenile and missed the mark dang near 90% of the time. In the first book yes, she had a very childish and juvenile sense of humor there too but it was spot on, and revealing, and perfectly on point, and HILARIOUS. Book 2? There were very few times I so much as smirked at a charm I had very much come to love and expect from the FL like she had done in the last book.

I’m not even sure if I’m describing this right, but in book 1 she was shameless, fearless, crass, brash, and sharp as a whip. So how is it in book 2 she feels only childish and empty? In book 1, I felt she had been written perfectly, a beautiful balance of chaos, youth, audacity and charm. In book 2 she felt unsure and completely off base from what should have been the land markers for her character.

In this book she constantly felt less and less like her independent, never wants to do what she’s told, only does as she likes, character. She stopped fighting for her independence. She ACCEPTED another person- even the one she loved- had complete control over her without really, REALLY railing against it except for a little bit at the start. That, right there, was the largest transgression to be asked to go with and the biggest crock of bullsh*t to swallow by far in this book.

Look, I hated this book. To me, this lost EVERYTHING I had raved about it practically frothing with rabbid fangirl. This was an awful mashing of things seen and done before. This novel felt “safe” where the other felt like it had really taken its time so that before you knew it you were helplessly addicted to the characters it painted. Book 2 felt nothing at all like that.

If I was upset about the FL, I assure you, the ML was no better. Grim also felt as if he had regressed as a character. In book 1 he understood himself well enough to know Viv was dangerous for him bc he liked her immediately but he tried to fight it and play it off and not succumb and remember his duty all while getting to know her. You can literally read from chapter to chapter in his POV how he’s forced to admit, he respects and admires the heck out of this girl. In book 2 he no longer read like a man who genuinely considered this woman to be his peer, but like this repetitive back and forth wave of, ‘I want her, I need her. Responsibilities. I can’t stop thinking about her. Responsibilities. She makes me weak. Responsibilities.’ and it’s not at all where I wanted him to be.

He admits- HE. ADMITS!!! To Blood Bonding them for purely selfish reasons and that in terms of cost, for the life of Jamal, the bond was at a far greater price. That fact is easily glanced over tho and never examined again. He is WRECKED when she refuses to go near him- but bounces back so fast like everything’s fine again when she finally does. To me, he should be doing everything to woo, grovel, and show earnest distress bc he understand EXACTLY the position he put her in. But he never does. Both of them are just, business as usual and then eventually they make up enough to sleep with each other.

Neither of these characters to me felt like they properly stewed over the messed up sht of their situations. Neither of them felt like they truly grieved or mourned the loss of who they were before as they came to grips with the new reality of their now, officially well and truly bonded. And tossing that chance for raw emotion and angst out in favor of barreling through to a blunder of a plot? I felt completely robbed as a reader and betrayed as a budding fan.

Last thing I swear, that sht with the uncle at the end? I skipped ahead at like, the 67% marker so I have no idea what happened between that and the last chapter but the uncle twist felt like an upchucked and recycled, FL obsession plot device from the first book. You remember the master right? Ugh. And that’s the last thing I say before Goodreads decides to put a letter limit on these reviews. 💀💀💀

Book one was one hell of a ride and this second book is every bit as good! It’s a fantastic read that’s fun, got humour, it’s got steam and great chemistry and some action. We also get some back story and our female mc Vivian continues to be snarky and a little sassy and our male mc Grim well he’s just a totally hot alpha! It’s a great addition to this incredible series and I’m ready for book three!

Spicy content 🌶🌶🌶/5

I am thoroughly enjoying this series. Oh my goodness.

I love the fact that Grim is Anubus! I am obsessed with the bather between Vivian and Grim, and the world building and drama are fantastic. And couple that with the fact that it isn't a super long read and you got yourself a fantastic book!

I am so ingrossed in it that I just want to start the next book, so that's what I'm gonna do. So love ya bye, haha

But seriously, go pick this series up! And add it to your tbr!

Again, not a bad book but not a great one either.

The story continues from the first, and Vivien is as annoying and wattpad snarky if not more. We get it, she doesn’t need to breath and she loves her right boob 🙄

Grim has changed quite a bit, losing a lot of his intimidation and becoming a big softy, which was nice to see but it happened so drastically it made my head spin a little.

We got more insight to Vivien’s past and it gave her character a chance at some depth but the author didn’t use the opportunity as much as she could have, leaving her a very basic and ‘sassy woman’.

I’m going to read the final installment of the trilogy to see how it all ends, the last part of this book reeled me back in, it brought some drama and great plot points together to add much needed depth into the story.

The writing is still very wattpad style and i’ve gradually managed to accept it as it is, it’s an easy read 🤷🏻‍♀️

I brushed a thumb against her cheek. “You don’t have to say it back,” I assured her. “But to me, you stick out as a bright sun in what has been eons of gloom and heaviness. I can wait for as long as you need to sort out your feelings.”

omg to be in love with Grim the way I am 😩

Overall: 4.4/5
I'm still loving this series but I will say Viv had some especially dumb moments. Even so, her continuous snark and watching Grim finally seeing some happiness and even goading her back was great. The characters are fun and Viv's use of humor to cope keeps it from getting too dark. Jumping straight into the next one.

Trigger warnings? Explicit sex scenes, child abuse (non-descriptive).

Ok, first I have to say that Holly’s blurbs are just the best. There’s no way you read that synopsis and don’t want to be that friend Vivien is asking for.
“Everybody thinks it’s every woman’s dream to find the perfect man. Actually, every woman’s dream is to eat anything she wants and not get fat.”
With that quote this book was already on my favorites list.

So, Vivien drank Grim’s blood for saving Jamal, Miranda’s son. Seemed like a good idea until she found out she became his slave. We follow Vivien while she tries to stay aliv…I mean undead and learns to live with the idea of having a blood bond with Grim. We all know she had small-more-like-ultra-little-almost-non-existent feelings for Grim, but he can control her will now. And she’s not that dumb for believing he won’t use that power eventually. So now she has no interest in him, other than being her lunch…

Of course Vivien, like we believe a word of that.

This book is as funny as the first one, maybe even more. And we have a HIGH level of romantic tension. That later develops in a super steamy book.
“You think I’m afraid?” My laugh came out a bark. “I’m not scared of anything.” I’d survived on the streets as a vampire for two weeks on my own without killing anyone, destroyed the master vampire, and literally laughed in Death’s face. I was straight-up badass. No, I was Taylor Swift— Fearless.
This series is the first steamy one that I read consciously, as it’s not my style. Book 1 was just sexual tension, so it was fine for me, but this one goes to another level.

I still loved it though, as most of the book flowed with the story and I didn’t get that feeling of sex scenes added anywhere with no sense that is my problem with most “adult” books.
The hurry to join with her fell away as I kissed her with all the reverence I could muster. I may be a god, but it was my turn to worship another.
Also, I have to admit I’m super biased with this book. I somehow managed to get myself inside this book! I’m an extra in a scene with Dawn, another Hellion, and is the best scene in the book! Ok… maybe not the best, but one of those.

I’ve always been one of those night owls who like to read at night, but I’ve been trying to be a “responsible adult” for a long time and I don’t stay until thaaaat late. But with this one, I just couldn’t control myself and more than once I couldn’t stop reading. Vivien could be my best friend, if it wasn’t because I’m completely in love with Grim.
You, who have confronted all the torments, desires, tragedies, deaths, and endings of all beings. You can’t stand to look into this sekhor’s face without wanting to fall on your knees before her, apologizing for the injustices she’s faced.
Oh, special mention to my favorite character, Jenkins 😂. I’m pretty sure I have someone like him in my brain.
Jenkins, did you hear that? She’s got a target on her back.
Sir, I heard. We are royally screwed. What are we going to do about it?
Hit the lever to switch her focus. Get it onto anything else. If she thinks about it too long, her head will pop, and we’ll be out of a job.
Roger that, sir.
So, final verdict: Infinitely recommended for having a great time but also a super awesome background story, and some interesting turns I didn’t see coming.

SPOILER DAQUI PRA FRENTE HEIN

Follow that statue!

Vivien is not happy. Her deal was supposed to save Jamal, and it did. She just didn't realize that at the time Grim would have control over her for the rest of her immortal life. She'd escaped her controlling aunt and uncle. She'd escaped the master vampire's clutches. She didn't intend to stay under Grim's thumb any longer than she had to. But then Amit was stolen and now she has to work with the jerk to find him. Because if they don't, Grim has to hold those souls in himself. But a balloon only holds so much before it pops. And this balloon will pop like a nuclear bomb... in the middle of Vegas.

Spoilers ahead.
Ok, this book was good but it needs some trigger warnings. Major trigger warnings. You do NOT put child sexual assault in a book and not warn readers about it in the blurb. Vivien's uncle was a sick jerk. And he and her aunt have a foster daughter. Sexual assault of any kind needs a warning but especially to children. So automatic 2 star deduction. Outside of that glaring issue the book was great. Vivien is her zany self while learning new things every day. Grim is still growing, evolving. The list of allies grows, as does the list of enemies. We learn more about the sehkor/god bonds and history. And relationships, all kinds, are blooming, adapting and forming. And, we get a really sweet glimpse of a chance meeting that led to an endearing promise that was fulfilled in the most unusual way. But I'm still not happy at the lack of trigger warnings. I expect bloodshed, battle losses, and more than a little gore when you discuss vampires and a war between immortal beings that can take a lot of damage and not die.

Everything is in turmoil in Vegas again. Amit has been kidnapped from Grim. Amit's job is not one that can be left unattended. Grim must quickly find out who took Amit and get him back.
Meanwhile, Vivien is battling Grim's supposed control over her. Though he has promised not to force her to do anything, she just does not believe him. She must also aid in the search of Amit and try to avoid a group of angry gods who have no use for her.
Opinion
Holly is not my favorite author for any other reason than the way she writes a captivating story. I found myself consumed by this book and was able to devour it much quicker than any other book in recent past. The only advice I'd give her is minor. I would suggest titling each chapter with the character who's perspective that chapter was written in. (After a paragraph, you are able to see but I personally like it at the beginning. Anyway, that is my humble opinion.)
I would highly recommend you read book one before this one. These are not stand alone books. Also, check out her other series. It too is fabulous!
Many thanks to Holly Roberds for providing me with an ARC of this book. For those of you who love to stalk authors, Holly has an awesome group going on in Facebook, Holly's Hellions and even does Tarot readings live for her fans. Check it out, you'll be glad you did and you may just get written into the story like I did :)

So I had trouble getting into the story. I really like the voices in Vivian's head though. They are hilarious and I wish we heard from them more often. I did not like the back and forth with Vivian, but it looks like her ang Grim are finally settling down into couplehood. Not sure if I will read the last book or not.

Vivien is doing everything she can to avoid feeding from Grim. She does not want to be a slave or beholden to ANYONE…much less someone who sends her hormones off the charts~ When Timothy and Miranda come to her disaster of a room…Miranda goes into mom mode and forces Vivien to do what must be done. Grim is beside himself as to why Vivien avoids him. When she finally gives in, things will go much smoother between the two…until outside forces intervene. Meeting and schmoozing with the other gods, goddesses, and demigods is not something that impresses Vivien; the night turns into a crapshoot~ Someone steals Amit, which means Grim will have to house the souls of those who will not cross over into heaven; it is dangerous for Grim as well. Vivien already suspects who has Amit and will do anything to get him back to save Grim. It will be touch and go for the both of them during the experience…but when Vivien’s past literally faces her once again…what will she do? Grim? Will the two survive the current chaos, threats on their lives, and save the world? If they do, what will become of the two and their connection? Another fabulous book written about Vivien and Grim~

I can’t get enough of this series!

I have to say I’m really Loving this series! I just devoured book two and it was just as addicting as the first. Our characters are now trying to uncover truths and fighting to stay alive at every turn, throw in the hot burning chemistry and they are barely surviving! I love this world that Roberds has created, I really enjoy the story she spun and how everything came to be. This story is told with the characters as the main view and everything revolves around them, which I enjoy because there’s very little detail to get bogged down with. It’s all summed up sweet and to the point and to the cause, I think it all wraps up so smoothly. This book finally heats up and boy was I ready! It was all kinds of steamy!!! The ending kinda scared me but once I caught my breath, ahhh! I was fist bumping! Love Vivian to pieces! Can’t wait to see what she gets up to in the third book! Previously I had mentioned that book one there was no determination on who’s point of view it was in, well this book did give you who’s pov at the beginning of the chapter. A nice upgrade.

Grim and Vivien are still racing against time to find out who is behind trying to take over the world. In the midst of this  Ammit...... a god, who is a giant crocodile and responsible for eating the bad souls, is stolen.  His theft is the catalyst to Grim losing it, and Vivien tries everything in her will to save him and the world. The only person capable of such a feat is another god, with so much betrayal and everyone having their own agendas. Our MCs don't know who to really trust.  They knew it would be tricky going in to find out who was behind trying to disturb the peace, but they never expected an attack on Grim of the magnitude of which it was served.

Just when all seems lost, the god is retrieved, but it was too late, and Vivien had to make a sacrifice in order to bring Grim back, which in turn caused him to sacrifice as well

By the end, they were both back home healing and basking in each other's love when they were confronted with a "gift" that opened the door to another problem. What will the two face next, and will their few allies/friends be enough to stop the impending doom?

I have to congratate the author on writing another great storyline running within the main tale!
Its not one I've read before and it was fun to read.

Grim and Vivian are again put yo the test as Amit is stolen. This puts Grim in danger as he holds the darker souls that he would normally send to Amit to eat, and puts his very being at risk.

Their relationship is always fun to watch. Abd u love it getting spicier! Holly blames the readers of tikotok... To which I just say thank you!!

I've got an inkling of who our ultimate big bad villain might be but I'm not saying...!!

I'm kinda sad that this is only a trilogy. The characters are so well written - even the mortals! The storylines are jammed full of every type of emotion you could wish for, and the actual writing and telling of the story is spot on!

I was surprised to read the author used to write Buffy books which I used to hoover up! So it comes as no surprise thst I love these book really! Should give you a kind of similarity to what you'll be reading should you make the right choice in picking it up!!

On to, sadly the last one!!

Grim & Vivian: This Couple Just Got Hotter! -5 Stars

Grim and Vivian are on the hunt for a missing god, Amet, who devours dark souls brought in by the reapers. Since he has gone missing, Grim has had to absorb the souls, lest leashing them out into humanity which is a very bad thing. They race against the clock to locate Amet before the souls consume and destroy Grimm.

I am definitely here for Vivian and Grimm in this book! My review of Book One was not as favorable as this one due to world-building, which I hate, but I understand it’s a necessary evil. My affection for this couple and continuing on with the series is because it read like I was watching an episode of LUCIFER, which is my favorite show! I love how these two interact with one another!

The smexy factor was definitely present in this book! It definitely made up for the lack of it in Book One. I loved that we saw a softer side of Grimm and Vivian was funny as ever with her wisecracking. I just love these two.

I enjoyed this book so much I cannot wait to get to Book Three.

Happy reading!

Okay this series started out as a 3 star for me but boy has that changed by the second book! I was a little bummed it didn’t seem like there was going to be any spice throughout the series but was extremely pleasantly surprised that there was in this one! And the spice is spicy lol

Vivian’s internal dialogue seriously had me laughing throughout this entire second book, I love her badass snarky stubborn attitude and it’s exactly what I want out of an FMC. I have loved seeing her grow into an even more badass bounty hunting vampire ninja in this second book and can’t wait for the finale of the trilogy!

I loved grim’s character development in this book as well and it’s been great to see him grow over the course of the last 2 books. I read this entire book in a little over 24 hours it was that good! Sometimes adult vampire romances are a hit or miss but this series is definitely a hit! I definitely recommend reading it.

5/5 ⭐️

I enjoyed the adventure! The romance heats up, but the two main characters do lose a bit of their edge in the process.

A few things contributed to this not being a 5 star book.

The memory of Grim and Vivien’s first meeting when she was a kid? It felt like it got made up on the spot. If this was a thing that happened, why wasn’t it hinted at in the first book? I didn’t hate it, but it also came out of left field.

The uncle? Meh. I could have done without that. In Vivien’s childhood, her abusers were hidden by reputation and closed doors, like real life abusers. In the end of this book, the uncle is ambushing his adult victim with chloroform? It’s comforting to think of child abusers as being crazy and monstrous and easily caught, but her situation felt more realistic without all that.

For the most part, the gods fall a bit flat still. I’m not sure what all these gods are even for. Like when Grim tries to leave Vivien to Fallon in his will. Is Fallon his friend? Who even is Fallon? Why does he think Viv would be well placed with Fallon?
