From multiple-time Amazon #1 bestselling author of over 40 books, Iain Rob Wright comes a squeamish, twisting tale of family, courage, and survival.
It's spreading...
When Ryan Cartwright and his closest friends hire a rural cottage in the windswept Scottish Highlands to celebrate his upcoming wedding, they get more excitement than they bargained for. Along with the deathly chill and unforgiving landscape, they are about to discover something unimaginably ancient and unbelievably wicked out in the hills.
With the party heating up, Ryan's childhood friend, 'Mad fer it' Sean, fills his body with lager and pills, pushing everybody's patience to their limits, but the real party is yet to begin. You see, something else has gotten inside of Sean's bloodstream, something far more toxic than the booze and drugs. Something that is at first invisible, but slowly begins to grow... and spread.. and kill.
If you love claustrophobic horror with an unhealthy dose of body-horror, then 'The Spread' will knock your socks off. Get the complete 6 book collection now and enjoy the entire story.

One of Horror's most respected authors, Iain Rob Wright is the writer of more than forty books, many of them bestsellers. A previous Kindle All-Star and a mainstay in the horror charts, he is a prolific producer of unique and original stories. From his apocalyptic saga The Gates to his claustrophobic revenge thriller ASBO, Iain writes across a broad spectrum of sub genres, creating both beloved series and standalone titles.
With work available in several languages and in audio, Iain Rob Wright is one of the fastest rising stars in horror, but when not writing he is a dedicated family man. Father to Jack and Molly, and husband to Sally, he is often seen sharing his family memories with his fans on Facebook.
This is a great series but I’m not going to lie and say it didn’t hurt to read. Lots of friends were made and died throughout the books. I admit I cried once or twice.
A Chilling, Addictive Apocalypse You Can’t Look Away From!
The Spread by Iain Rob Wright is everything I love in a horror-thriller — fast-paced, disturbing, and utterly impossible to put down. From the very first chapter, Wright hooks you with a terrifying concept: a mysterious infection spreading faster than anyone can contain it. What follows is a gut-punch of tension, chaos, and raw human survival.
The characters feel real and flawed, the kind of people you can imagine being trapped beside when the world starts to fall apart. I especially appreciated how Wright balances gruesome horror with emotional depth — it’s not just about monsters and gore, but about fear, morality, and what it truly means to stay human when everything goes to hell.
The writing is sharp, cinematic, and darkly addictive. Each page ramps up the dread until you can almost feel the infection crawling off the page. If you’re a fan of The Last of Us, 28 Days Later, or The Stand, this is absolutely a must-read.
Highly recommend for anyone who loves apocalyptic horror with heart-pounding suspense and a wicked sense of realism. I’m already diving into the next in the series!
I received an ARC copy and this is my honest review.
I absolutely love end of the world, apocalypse books that are set in Britain, and boy this was is a stunner, especially when they came to my part of England, Birmingham and Cannon hill which I know well, the characters are mostly likable even the annoying ones you come to care about, my favourite was Cameron and while I understand and agree with the writer with his reasons for killing him off it was still so sad, I wish the writer would carry on with emphasis on the blue aliens as I don't believe it will be peace and harmony with them and the human race, it would be great but no, . I haven't gone into the story much you must read it yourself, I will just say it's definitely a cut above eotwawki books I've read in my 60 odd years.
It starts out in the Scottish highlands. A small group of friends in a cabin for the weekend to party Ryan’s upcoming marriage. Things start going sideways almost immediately with a horrible, earth shuddering explosion. What they find at the top of the hill is the beginning of a nightmare, the beginning of the end. This is basically one young man’s journey trying to do the right thing, trying to get home to his mother. His fight, his friends, his revelations make for an extraordinary story of courage, love, sacrifice and battles that will keep you on the edge,of your chair. I wholeheartedly recommend you give this a go!
I truly enjoyed reading this series and it was awfully hard to put down at night in order to get some danged sleep! I loved all the characters and both brothers were great and I liked how the younger brother finally stepped up when it seemed his older brother had died…he finally came into his own man and faced his challenges as they came up. Good for him! Even the other characters grew up along the way…they all ended up helping one another and I liked that!
This started off with a group of friends who seemed to fall apart when faced with adversity. I wasn't sure how many of these books I'd read but found them more engrossing as I went through the series. They were bleak, seemingly hopeless at times, and the view of humanity portrayed in here wasn't flattering. Nevertheless, I found the story compelling and really enjoyed it. If it had been better edited/proofread I'd have scored it five stars but it just seemed a little sloppy in places. 4.5 stars
What a story ! The characters draw you in and what begins as something you would never see happening ends as something beautiful. The strength and passion of each one of them makes them see as real as someone you know. A member of your family. Your best friend and what you would do if man kind came upon something equally as devastating. Hats off to you for writing this. I will be re reading these ….. amd I have never ever wanted to re read anything before.
I loved the characters in this series. They were so well thought out and written that I felt their losses and achievements, their love and grief as if I were in the story with them. The journey they took was hard but they managed to form strong bonds of friendship and eventually family. Couldn’t put the boxset down, I loved each and every story as much as the last and even though the end nearly broke me, it was an amazing ending and I don’t think it could have been better
This series grabbed me from the very start. Alien invasion of earth unlike any other sci-fi series. Set in recent times, believable and quite scary. The writing is first class, the characters very believable. I became so invested in them that I found it almost impossible to stop reading at the end of chapters. I read the whole six books in ten days!!! First time I have read this author, but now a huge fan I would recommend books to anyone who enjoys a good nailbiting read.
The spread the complete infection books 1,2,3,4,5,6.
This was an amazing read from start to finish. Each character was unique and special in their own way and although this is just a fictional story, I found myself wondering how we as a society would have survive if something like this ever did happen. Would we pull together or hasten our demise. In all a highly recommended read
I was recommended this series and wasn’t sure I was going to enjoy it. I like my HEA romantic paranormal stories, not horrors, but I must say I couldn’t wait to find out what happened next. It was gory, painful and heartbreakingly sad in parts, but I’m so glad to have been introduced to this author, really looking forward to reading another of his series.
This series had me so emotional, on the edge of my seat and binge reading like you wouldn’t believe. I did have to take breaks here and there but I kept pushing through the hard parts. So worth the hours I put in. Thank you Mr Wright for writing such an amazing series! I will be finding more of your work asap!
I really enjoyed this series but i will warn readers: do not take anything for granted. Anything can happen and probably will. Characters, even the ones who did not stay long were well developped. Being the alien lover that I am, i have to say that Helper was my favorite character.
.... fantastic series !!! There was never a dull chapter, much less a dull page !!!! All of the characters really came to life, whether they were human or alien. If you're looking for a great SF series, you've found it here !!! My whole hearted Thanks to Iain Rob Wright, for continuing to keep us, his fans, so well entertained !!! Thanks, I.R.W. !!!! 🤓
A low-key and entertaining read. Don't expect anything solid or well-built though. This story was full of deus ex machinas and very thick plot armour. Some plot points felt emotionally manipulative, but they hit hard regardless. The hill: ⭐⭐ The Village: ⭐⭐⭐ The Stand:⭐⭐⭐ The Road:⭐⭐⭐ Turning Point: ⭐⭐(⭐) Annihilation: ⭐⭐⭐
I haven't read a book about a virus is at least 10 years, no particular reason really. I stumbled across this series on a recommended list and gave it a shot and I'm so glad I did! I fell in love with the characters and the plot is just too good! I loved every bit of this and have already recommended it to some friends. Going to check out Sea Sick next!
I was a little skeptical when I first started reading, but then the story just sucked me in , for those we lost. It is saddening. I hope those left behind will rebuild. And make the future better for all. I highly recommend this series and Author
A brilliant riveting rollercoaster read of action, remorse, horror, love, humanity, pain and survival. I have immersive read this saga and it was like I was visually watching a movie. Highly recommended saga to read. I shall be reading more of Iain Rob Wright's other books as this was my first read.
Enjoyed this book very much. The twists and turns kept taking me down the story roads I least expected. I was devastated when Cam died at the end. And was ecstatic when Ryan survived. I was kept guessing until the last page…..sorry to see the ending….
I loved the people in this series so much. Not gonna lie Cameron was my favorite. Just the hero needed in this story. I loved all of nearly as much though. You couldn't help but see a bit of yourself in all of them.
Book is steady pace with lots of action. Would love to see it in a movie. But movie wouldn't be as good as w hat I pictured. Feel in love with the characters. I laughed, cried a few times and I couldn't wait to see what happens next.
I absolutely love Iain Rob Wright’s writing style, story-telling, and his way of getting me to love his characters. I highly recommend all of his stories. The Gates Series is another phenomenal read!
I couldn't put this series down. Every book got better and better. At times, I found it to be ano nail-biting experience! Fantastic writer!!! I tell everyone who will listen to me what a superb writer you are!!! Now on to the next books!!!
I recommend this book to any horror fan, if you like Stephen King you will definitely like Ian Rob Wright. I have read many of his books so far all are good.
