Captain Sloan did something he shouldn’t have. Now he has to make amends. That turns out to be more of a job than anyone would have thought. Watch him and the crew of the Armstrong as they work to make things right.
Bob thought they had the Boatmen safe from the cats, and in places where they could live peacefully. Turns out the cats have a purpose, and the fleet made a mistake. Little Becky gets hurt finding that out.
I’m a house husband. I keep things together while my wonderful wife makes our living. I’ve worked as a machinist, short order cook, electronics assembly tech, and several other jobs. My hobbies include vehicle maintenance, (I’ve had the transmission out of my truck. Twice) free flight airplanes, electronics, and shooting. I was born and raised in the Ozarks, and now live in Mid-Missouri.
I love this series and tend to reread the books in it sooner than a year. This volume is one of the better ones in the series. The first half follows Dingus as he investigates the origin of the sleeper ship. The second half follows Bob who has returned from rescuing Zelda. I’m looking forward to seeing more of the Boatmen.
I giggled like a little girl when I saw that this Book 28 wasrtt available. The first part is told from Dingus' viewpoint, and the second part us from Bob's. (Am I the only person who sees and hears the actor Sam Elliott when visualizing Dingus? I suspect not.)
The storyline is entertaining and keeps the overarching plot tight and moving along. Obviously, I highly recommend this addition to the series and look forward to the next book.
The first half of this was great with lots of action, some suspense and new themes. Unfortunately the Admiral's story has fallen into a rut. By book 28 we all know his routine and while the story takes some twists and turns most of the writing is the repetitive routine of the Admiral's day. I almost didn't buy this installment due to the last few books being repetitive on the Admiral's day but glad I did. The first half was worth it.
First I am not a grammar or expert on writing, but I am a fan of these books. I had noticed in some of the last few books the author using the technique of saying the characters name and the word said a lot. This book didn’t do it nearly as often and the dialogue just flowed so much better. Whether it was the author improving or the editors or proof readers, I really liked the improvement. Good job on keeping track of the growing fleet and story line too!
I truly love this series. I actually cheered today when I saw this book was out! Of course the wife just rolled her eyes.... Okay on to the review, Rogue got himself in trouble, and found a much larger problem that took creative thinking by the crew to solve. Murphy paid an unscheduled visit, complicating Bob and his ships efforts to take care of the folks on the stasis ship. All in all another great job by the BSR crews. If you haven't started this series yet, do yourself a favor. You'll enjoy it!
I love these books and have reread them in a major binge. I am not a fan of having Dingus's story be such a big part of them . They are Bob and Nikki books, that's who I want to read about.
Another Great addition to the bob and Nikki storyline! I enjoy the way you are adding views of the different crew members and hope to see more of it! Keep up the Great work!!!
The Bob and Nikki books are just a fun easy read, Jerry Boyd has refined his style of writing and characters to make each book a nice chat with some good friends. Its a fun run of science and fiction, with some down home goodness added in.
I started this series just before this book came out. I’m addicted. If you are looking for a good series to get lost in, this may be the one for you. A good ’ol boy from Missouri finds a hot alien chick working on her space ship in his garage and it rolls from there. With an amazing cast of characters, easy to understand tech, outer space has never been more fun. Each and every book introduces you to new ways Murphy can ruin your day and the ways Bob and his crew gets things done. WARNING-If you are a grammar hound, set it aside as you read this series, it’s worth it. From the first book to this one Jerry’s writing has improved greatly. No one said you have to have an English major to write a great book/series. In fact, living for a while in Missouri, his writing style reminds me of my ex-husband (yes we’re still friends) telling a story. Hang on to your seat, it’s gonna be a wild ride. This last part is for our esteemed author Jerry Boyd. Your brain is a marvelous place to hang out. I loved reading the adventures of the other characters. If you wrote short stories of the others adventures that would be awesome.
Steady progress on multiple plots this installment.
The number of characters keeps increasing so the overall progress is slowing down. The plots are rich and threads are more like a tapestry than a scarf at this point. Read the entire series to have a chance of understanding the nuances and direction the books are headed. This time the story split into three parallel tracks to cover the time with each group's perspective. It worked quite well! You'll enjoy the read start to finish.
Another really fun read from Jerry Boyd. These books are a true series so you would really need to start with the first book Bob's Saucer Repair. In this one, Boyd splits the book into two points of view, starting with Dingus and his crew leading an exhibition to connect with a group of people who call themselves the boatmen. It turns out that they are being adversely effected by a mysterious weed. From there we go back to Bob's point of view of the same events as well as working through his own problems.
coolagainkidd@icloud.com I find myself nearly in a panic.I have finished book 28 " The Boatmen" and can't find book 29 the next book I want and it's not there I've gone back to where the book ended and can't find a referral to the next book and it sets in that it is over and I realized that this has been a really good series. Thanks Jerry Boyd for a good time reading. I'll keep a watch for that huge space ship.
Well I have to admit i'm starting to skip over large sections of text related to day to day occurances to get to the action. On the up side I made it through 26 books to get to this state so that's almost twice as many as the Destroyer series. I have read the Foreigner series twice without skipping a word. I don't need to know how often Bob has sex so that's a skip right there. The communications over lightyears is impossible but this is entertainment.Still a fairly good read.
This continues the storylines started in the previous installment and provides mostly temporary resolution and arrives at a reasonable pause in action, leaving the reader to wait for more. New characters, supported by good development and the current cast members. Still an entertaining series to read.
Jerry has his 2 characters, Bob and Dingus, telling their story that is happening at the same time. First Dingus on his away mission tells his story about alien interaction with calls to Bob. Then Bob tells his story about alien interaction with his end of the calls. The 2 blended together make for a great addition to the Bob and Nikki series.
Did not particularly like how you bounced from one main character to another. Please go back to the other way of introducing the plot. Too much repetitive reading. I've read all 28 & this one I liked the least. Did not recommend it. Concentrate more on earth in the future, that would be fu
I’m the first half of the book Dingus and Dee showed the same characteristics of Bob and Nicki. Their talk and actions were the same even though they are different people. Mr. Boyd needs to think of different personalities for each couple. The books are getting a bit boring.
The stories are great, but the formatting makes it very hard to read. No separation of paragraphs or chapters at all. It was better in book 6 but got worse again. I tried the audible version and the accents were horrible, so I just kept reading. Sometimes it’s hard to figure out who is talking.
The usual complimentary words because I do enjoy the stories in this series.
I've explained previously how much I'm enjoying this Author's writing. This series is so well written and in a style I thoroughly enjoy. I'll continue on with the next book because I expect to enjoy it as much as I've enjoyed all of the previous books in this series.
Interesting new characters. Interesting plot twist. Well defined characters. I really enjoy this author’s work. I bought the whole series, I am on my second read through. And I continue to find things that I never saw before. What a great writer!
Whenever I am on Amazon, I will always search for this author subconsciously hoping another one has been published in the series and this one definitely didn’t disappoint
This book and series are imaginative yet a relaxing enjoyable read. Like life itself, being serious or technical should only be part of the time. These books reflect that with lots of humor.
Trying to solve problems foisted upon them by being nice. Only reason this one got 4 stars was just being a bit bland. Author is still possibly the best with story telling via characters talking a lot.
I always like the mix of fun and action in this series. I appreciate the author's change in style of spreading the stories to include the POV of the other characters, all in one book! Just makes it better!
Another wonderful story that Keri’s me wanting more. We start with Dingus and his mission then pick up Bob and friends the other side. I smile and laugh through the whole book and cannot wait for the next one.
This series of books is by far my favorite reading material at this time. It is both humorous as well as addictive. You hate finishing one book because then you have to wait for the next book to get released.
By far the best series that I have read in years!!! I need more!! It's been fun going from one adventure to another with the BSR Team. I look forward to seeing what happens next.
I really enjoy this series. It is just great entertainment! Bob is always Bob, and I love his interaction with others. He is a great leader, and we could all learn a lot from him. I know he is fictional, and that’s too bad…
Interesting justification of two different viewpoints on similar problems with some really good communication. I enjoy the small people who ran away more than those stayed at the home plan.
