"G.A. Everett bursts onto the scene with a debut which delivers a frighteningly plausible look at the future. Incredibly impressed with this book. A real page turner from start to finish. Recommended to any fans of urban sci-fi (like Charlie Brooker's Black Mirror series)." ★★★★★

"Artificial is a poetically compelling novel, that explores themes of technological totalitarianism and urban rebellion, set in a frighteningly—and increasingly realistic—near future. I write speculative fiction of all kinds. My debut novel Artificial is the first in a futuristic science fiction thriller series that plunges you into a world of artificial intelligence, corruption and rebellion. If you like your adventures a bit more fantastical, then check out my novel Downfall, which features an engaging sword and sorcery fantasy world, filled with battles, backstabbing and morally ambiguous characters aplenty.

It is happening now !!!!

I found this book by chance and I am glad decided to give it a read. The story, wow in an small scale is happening around me. We are controlled and so dependant on technology, I could see myself as one of the characters, so blind by and so much in favour of it all. I couldn’t put the book down. I enjoyed it so much that I have book 2 and 3 lined up for my next read. I hope it does well in the Goodreads and other book charts as it may well be a movie some time soon. Thank you writer for this fantastic read.

LOVED it!

Science fiction is a vast genre. While the movie Idiocracy explored the "dumbing down" of the population due to progressively worse self-indulgence, this story deals with issues of future technology dependence leading to its downfall and the subsequent post-apocalypse. It also confirms current big tech can bribe the citizens with entertainment and opulence in return for total control by a large corporation.
Should the sheeple ever decide to exercise self-control, discipline and moderation in all things, then maybe government and corporations wouldn't have the leverage this story illustrates. Tech should be a tool not a lifestyle, not the center of education and entertainment. This is why throttling internet access for profit from all the citizenry, especially the poor, needs to be eliminated. This is why big government and big business are dangerous without proper checks and balances, without the voice of the people. This is why private space ventures should continue to be encouraged. Elon Musk appears to be on the right track. Large-scale monopolies need to be discouraged. But I do miss Ma Bell as a basic utility.

well written and interesting

I enjoyed this story, mostly due to all the hoopla around AI these days. The writing is excellent and the characters captivating. This is a story I recommend. The only faults I found were an insufficient grasp of how AI works and a lack of schooling on the current state of technology… the Starlink project in particular.

Again though, this is an entertaining story that I enjoyed.

I'm gonna round my 3.5 up to 4 as the book is new and unknown, so deserves to be given a chance. It wasn't to my taste as I'm not a fan of sci-fi however the plot is pretty good and thought-provoking. Worth a read.

Exciting

The world building was good, the characters were strong, the ending was satisfying. It is a series, so the story continues.
