The stupidest thing a con artist can ever do is fall for the man who’s trying to catch him…

Nordin likes to think of himself as a modern-day Robin Hood, redistributing the wealth from those who don’t deserve it to those who do. It’s fun, it’s exciting, and it makes good use of his talents and gifts.

Unfortunately, not everyone sees it like that, including FBI agent Tavin Donley. He calls Nordin a con artist, which is, like, such a rude term. Worse, he’s determined to catch Nordin.

That in itself is already a problem, but much worse is the fact that the chemistry between them is explosive. It always has been. And even though they’re adversaries, they can’t keep their hands off each other.

But when fire burns that hot, someone will get burned…

Nicked is the fourth book in The Foster Brothers series, a contemporary MM romance series about four men who chose to be brothers that can be read as stand alones. It has an epic game of cat and mouse, two men who can’t keep their hands off each other, a battle for the top, and the sweetest surrender.

Would you like the long or the short version of my bio?

The short? You got it.

I write steamy gay romance books and I love it. I also love reading books. Books are everything.

How was that?

A little more detail? Gotcha.

I started writing my first stories when I was a teen…on a freaking typewriter. I still have these, and they’re adorably romantic. And bad, haha. Fear of failing kept me from following my dream to become a romance author, so you can imagine how proud and ecstatic I am that I finally overcame my fears and self doubt and did it. I adore my genre because I love writing and reading about flawed, strong men who are just a tad broken..but find their happy ever after anyway.

My favorite books to read are pretty much all MM/gay romances as long as it has a happy end. Kink is a plus… Aside from that, I also read a lot of nonfiction and not just books on writing. Popular psychology is a favorite topic of mine and so are self help and sociology.

Hobbies? Ain’t nobody got time for that. Just kidding. I love traveling, spending time near the ocean, and hiking. But I love books more.

“Need you,”
“You have me. You always have me.”

What a beautiful end to this series. Nordin’s story, already teasered a bit in the previous books was so very different from the others, full of longing and sacrifice —starring a con-artist and an FBI agent.

But if you now expect a game of cat and mouse between a criminal and a federal agent you’re mistaken (the blurb is really misleading here!). It is not. This is a love story of two people that shows that it’s not always possible to let go, no matter how many years pass.

Fifteen years ago two boys met for the first time at CPS shortly after their eighteenth birthdays to be released from the foster care system and they decide to celebrate their new freedom together. They have an instant connection. But life goes on for them, in different cities, and we follow them through the years, keeping in touch, meeting on occasion —but always with that spark they have with no one else they meet. Until their chosen careers make it impossible for them to even think about being together.

It was a great story and a great romance. And whatever was missing for me here (I really can’t pinpoint) was made up by the thrill at the end and the wonderful love declarations thereafter.

Wanna do this?”
Nordin nodded. “I’ve only been waiting for this moment for fifteen years…”

♡♡
All the books in this series (with various great tropes) about four men who found each other as kids in a group home in the foster care system and made themselves a family can, despite their deep connection, all be read as standalones.

“The days each of you arrived at the group home were the best days of my life. We may not be related by blood, but we chose each other, and you’re my brothers in every way. […] I just…I love you all so much, and I’m so grateful you’re my brothers.”

The other three moved in, and then they hugged, all four of them, sniffling and holding back their tears. “We love you too,”

**************
The Foster Brothers Series:

Book 0.5 - Marked: Myron - skipped
Book 1 - Jilted: Jaren - skipped
Book 2 - Hired: Hadley - 4.0 stars ♡
Book 3 - Loathed: Lagan - 4.0 stars
Book 4 - Nicked: Nordin - 4.25 stars

My favorite among the four books. I love how Nordin and Tavin took care of each other, the pining, the chemistry they have and the parting that always occurs..broke my heart every time that happened.
This wraps up the series perfectly with glimpses of the other three brothers and their respective partners. Couldn’t put this down, all four books was worth loosing sleep over. Loved this! Can’t wait to read more Nora Phoenix.😍

FBI agent x conman. Bloodied MC showing up at the other's door, near death, all 'I didn't know where else to go.'

This one's the gem of the series, by far.

Nordin's the eldest of the 4 Foster brothers, who has always had to live life outside the lines of the law to ensure the others never had to. Loving them so much that he could never really tell them what he does to keep the small family afloat, he's always felt set apart from them, not quite fitting in.

Until Tavin.

Another foster child that he meets as they both attend their exit interviews shortly after their 18th birthdays.

Immediate attraction. Immediate connection. Nordin doesn't feel the need to hide what he does from Tavin and they have an exceptional night, fully funded by Nordin's profession.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem meant to be, because Tavin's moving to LA, and Nordin's headed to Seattle as soon as his youngest brother finishes high school.

Except.....they can't quite leave each other alone. Texts turn into sexts, which turn into phone calls, which turn into visits.

Not often. Once every few years. But the sex is still explosive and friendship grows into something neither can quite name. A joking pledge to marry each other if neither has someone by 30.

And then Tavin mentions he's going to become a cop.

Suddenly, there's a heaviness between them. They know this has to end at some point.

Still. They keep in touch. They can't quite let the other go, even though neither will say why.

Nordin starts to wonder if there's a world in which he quits what he does and finds something else. Maybe? Maybe.

Then GODDAMNED Jilted Jaren gets.....jilted. And Nordin knows Jaren will be in debt over the wedding expenses. Then he won't be able to put up his half of Lagan and Hadley's tuition. Nordin will need to step up to cover the shortfall.

There's no way he can quit now. He has to stick with it juuuuuuust a little longer.

Years pass. The brothers make it through. They now all have partners. Nordin can start to want things for himself. Maybe he and Tavin can find a way to make it work.

But time's up. Tavin announces he got into the FBI academy. This has to end. Now. After one last night together, they part. Both knowing it may be the last time they see the other.

On completing the program, Tavin asks to be stationed in Seattle. He doesn't mention it to Nordin. He's not doing it for him, really. They don't speak, after all.

He doesn't need to mention it. Nordin's kept tabs. He knows the address of Tavin's home down to the last detail. He won't use the information. He just likes knowing things, is all. He doesn't mention it to Tavin. They don't speak, after all, you know 😂.

Almost a year later, Tavin opens his door to a bleeding Nordin. He's been stabbed twice and lost a lot of blood.

"I didn't know where else to go.", he says.

When I tell you this book is full of clichés, believe me. But it's so gripping that I don't even care.

Invisible string theory WOULD be true for these starcrossed lovers, if I didn't know without a doubt that they wove that shit together themselves, thread by thread.

And by this, I mean that Nordin hacked into Tavin's ring camera.

And Tavin has the password to Nordin's phone. Which is coincidentally the day they met for the first time.

Even when it doesn't make sense, even though it's safer not to, they keep a door open.

Somehow, there's always a way back to each other.

"Nothing compares to you."
"Baby....."
"No more talking. That will only make things worse."

Fifteen fucking years of wrong timing.

😩

So many conversations with the words 'allegedly' and 'hypothetically' 💀

And then.

One of Nordin's jobs overlaps with Tavin's case. And there's no more hiding from the reasons they can't be together.

Nordin and Tavin sitting on opposite sides of the table in an FBI interrogation room.

Honestly I was just glad they were forced to face shit because the avoidance was not helping.

Will not spoil the way through but.

'Yes, I love my job, but I love you more.'

FUCKING FINALLY!!!!

I haaaaate that their love declaration had a witness (but I kinda get it because if I'd been the witness I'd have been paying so much attention that I could take an exam on it after)

And after all this time, I wanted them to say it so badly that I wouldn't have cared if everyone and their duck was watching.

I am aware the tag 'fated mates' strictly doesn't apply to this sort of situation but anyone that has an issue with it will have to pry it from my cold dead hands.

I’m such a sucker for romances that span decades! Add in the sweet tension of being on opposite sides of the law, the fun cons, and how I just knew everything would work out perfectly and you’ve got my favorite book of this series.

I really didn’t expect it to be so good because I felt like the quality had been decreasing, but this book more than exceeded my expectations. I knew the first demise of a con man and a law man falling in love, but I didn’t expect the whole forbidden relationship throughout the years aspect. It was so well done too.

This book was also surprisingly less angsty than I thought it would be. There’s not really this huge oppressive feeling of uncertainty for these characters and their love. It’s definitely meant to be there, but the author writes everything so light and fun that it was always clear everything would be okay and that really worked for me.

Huge fan of this author now!

"Four young boys stuck in Foster Care, who formed an unbreakable friendship...even changing their last names to "Foster" to seal them the rest of their lives as "brothers of the heart" if not of blood.".

Oh, how I wish Nora Phoenix had created two or three dozen more Foster Brothers and their stories instead of only four. Come on Nora!! I love everything this author creates, and this four-book series is certainly on my top 10 list. This is the last of the brothers for us to hear his story, Nordin was always kind of the leader, and also the most secretive. The others, Jaren, Hadley, and Lagan were always the definition of an "open book"... but not our Nordin. He had made a promise to the three younger boys when they were in the group home, that he would always...no matter what life might threw at them... take care of them...and he’s faithfully kept that promise to the letter. When the youngest brother, Lagan, turned eighteen, the four boys... now all men, had gone to the courthouse and changed their last names to "Foster". They weren’t officially adopted brothers, but brothers in every other way possible, just the same. Then they all moved from Chicago to Seattle, finally leaving their childhoods behind them. Three of Nordin’s brothers have now found their "happy-ever-after's" – Jaren with Reid (book #1), Hadley with Sebastian (book #2), and Lagan with Killian (book #3).

Nordin has always been their protector, the one who always made sure they had food, gifts, and other necessities that the group home never provided for them. Now that they have almost all found love, Nordin is a little lost, and a lot lonely. Nordin would like nothing more than to walk away from his "career", which we always knew was a bit questionable, and also find love...or actually be with the man he already loves.

Nordin's story starts by going back to 2004, when we see Nordin at 14, doing something for his three brothers. It also shows us a little about how he became a con man, a grifter of sorts. We had already learned that what he did wasn't exactly illegal, but very much, on the line. We were never actually told what it was. We learn more and love Nordin even more with each chapter. Chapter 1 starts in 2008, and the chapters move forward in years until the last one. I usually try to avoid "flashbacks" but, once I started, I just couldn't stop reading.

The Nordin we meet here, is now 18 and has aged out of the foster care system. He’s in the CPS office when he sees a hot guy close to his own age who has a black eye. They start to talk and neither wants to stop. Nordin learns that he’s there for the same reason Nordin is, and his name is Tavin. They plan to meet in the park later. Between the CPS office and the park meeting, Nordin has been busy doing his "job". He has managed to "score" suits for them both... some cash...and a hotel room in the Waldorf-Astoria. We already know that none of this was legal, but Nodin is determined to do something "special" with and for Tavin, even if they haven't yet had that first kiss. When it finally happens, they both know this is IT for both of them and they will have a life-long connection. It's the beginning of a true love story that will be fifteen long years in the making.... but so very, very worth waiting for.

I guess Nora Phoenix, isn't going to get on with those 20 other books in the series that I wanted, so guess I'll just have to reread these. (sigh). It'll be a tough job, but someone has to do it:)

The good
+ Their long distance friendship lasting more than a decade
+ How they both knew exactly how the other felt
+ Good communication
+ Both of them
+ How they absolutely trusted each other, despite the circumstances
+ Nordin becoming even closer with his brothers
+ The way Nordin and Tavin took care of each other

The neutral
o I wish the reader could have seen some of the aftermath.
o Dixie deserved a bigger role

The bad
- I've mentioned this in earlier reviews, but I don't understand why they all had to end up rich. They fought so hard in their group home and those first years after keeping each other afloat, and then everyone suddenly gets crazy rich and it all just kind of loses meaning
- The font used for notes and letters was almost illegible, and I don't have a reading disorder. I imagine for many people with dyslexia, the notes will be impossible to read

I still think it's very much a pity that all four of the brothers had to end up rich and none of them got a career in construction or another blue collar job for example. All their HEAs were stereotypical and over the top. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed the relationship between Nordin and Tavin, and together with Jaren's story, this is my favorite in the series. Their devotion to each other and the mutual trust were just perfect. Would recommend if you don't mind a slightly ridiculous ending.

I could care less if there are any problems with this. I loved this with my entire heart. I didn’t want this to end; I have formed an emotional attachment to almost all of the characters.

Thank you. Thank you for always taking care of us in a million ways, even when we didn’t know it, even going after those who hurt us. We wouldn’t be who we are today without you. We owe you everything, Nor. Everything.

Nordin and Tavin were everything to me. I loved how they could not stay away from each other no matter what circumstances happened. They just made me melt inside. Nordin deserved all of the love in the entire world. He took care of all of his siblings without a second thought. Tavin was just adorable. I fell in love with him the second I met him. Both of them are just soulmates.

“You’re in love with him”…“I am, and I’ve been for a long time. Maybe forever, I don’t know. I’ve tried fighting it, but it’s no use. He’s it for me, even if anything between us is impossible.”

I loved the little things that did for each other. Like the dog and password. Those things just melted. If I had to recommend anyone’s book out of the brothers, it would be this one.

He loved him. He was completely, head over heels, irrevocably in love with Nordin Foster.

What's with the biphobia?? Y'all act like bisexuals are attracted to sexual organs instead of living breathing humans. Using wrong definitions of bisexuality only perpetuates biphobia and is not helping. Just bcuz sm1 is pan or not into labels they dont need to be biphobic & use wrong words to describe bisexuality. Bisexuality isn't about "gender" n pan/unlabelled doesn't mean they r the only ones who "see a person instead of sexual organs" need you all to not mention bisexuality just to use biphobic definitions. Do away with the constant need to be biphobic whilst pretending to be better n more "woke". So disappointing to see biphobia from the author.

This book was good, but not quite what I expected—and I think that’s largely because the blurb is a bit misleading. With one character being a con artist and the other an FBI agent, I went in thinking I’d get a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase, full of emotional conflict, moral tension, and impossible choices. I expected intensity, push and pull, maybe even a moment where duty clashes with desire.

But that tension? It never truly showed up.

The book had so much potential. The story itself is strong, the setup is fantastic, and the characters are incredible—Nordin and Tavin are unique and well-written, with a slow but steady build in their connection. Their journey from meeting to finally being together openly is heartfelt, and the ending is genuinely beautiful and emotional.

However, I couldn't help but feel like the whole "FBI vs. con artist" angle was underused. It served more as a background gimmick than a real, driving conflict. Tavin being an FBI agent felt more like a character tag than an active plot point. I wanted more stakes, more tension, more of that forbidden edge.

In the end, the relationship became the central focus, and while it was lovely, it overshadowed what could’ve been a gripping plotline. I wouldn’t call it a romantic suspense—it leaned heavily into romance with just a hint of its criminal justice premise.

Still, if you're in it purely for the emotional payoff and great characters, this book delivers. Just don’t expect an enemies-to-lovers, high-stakes, cat-and-mouse chase—because that’s not what this is.

This was the stupidest book I've read in a while. You'd think Ms Phoenix would at least have figured out the too many "he" and "him" in one sentence, but no such luck. Nordin's "career" details are fantasy material, same as Tovin's... And don't get me started on these names... Shallow, unrealistic and even unsexy. I don't know why I did this to myself. A long day between train stations and airports, I guess.

Omg how good was that?! Easily added it to my favourites list of 2023.

I really am not happy about wrapping up this series because I absolutely adore the relationship that these men have.

This one in particular was SO DAMN GOOD. The fact that they grew into who they were always meant to be, and they kept gravitating back towards one another like their collision was inevitable. Ugh.

Nicked: Nordin is the final book in Nora Phoenix’s Foster Brothers series, and we finally get to know all of Nordin’s secrets. While this story technically stands on its own, like the other books in the series, it’s best read in order. Unlike the other books in this series, however, the first part takes place from Nordin and Tavin’s first meeting, and then we get to see a great deal of the intervening years as they both grow up and live their lives. As I mentioned, they keep coming back together, if only for a night or two, unable to stay away from each other.

mixed feelings on this one. It wasn't bad and was a good wrap up to the series, but it wasn't what I expected. The blurb is very misleading. Based on the blurb i really expected more thief vs the law shenanigans, a game of cat and mouse, but no. Tavin nor the FBI are ever trying to catch Nordin. He's never even on their radar. The two meet as teens and only cross paths professionally once at the end of the book and its resolved in 5 seconds.

Indimenticabile.

I seriously loved this book. It's definitely a new all-time favorite for me.

Of the Foster brothers, Nordin's was the book I was most eager to read. He was mysterious and secretive, so much so that his own brothers had no real clue what he did for a living.

They also don't know that he fell in love with a man right after they both turned eighteen, only they can't truly be together because of each of their career paths. Even though they know they need to stay apart, it's just not possible, which makes each goodbye much harder than the ones before it.

I honestly don’t remember the last book that had me as teary eyed as this one did almost from the very first page. Watching Tavin and Nordin fight so hard to not love each other hurt my heart. Hell, just seeing Nordin emotional hurt my heart. He’d always been the strong one of the brothers, the one who appeared to always be in control of everything – his life, his emotions, everything. Only in Loathed: Lagan was the reader given a few glimpses of his emotional side, with him even sharing a little with Lagan about what he did for a living, something he’d never done with any of his brothers before.

Throughout the entire book, you want so much to see Tavin and Nordin finally get their HEA. I’ve never cheered on a couple in a book like I did these two. They loved each other so much, and it killed them each time they had to separate again, but it’s hard to see how they could ever be together.

Fantastic book. Such an amazing way to end the series.

This was a decent end to the series. Nordin's story was full of angst since his love interest is on the other side of the law. It made for a fun dynamic between them. I also liked how Nordin came to see that his brothers love him with no conditions. Looking back on what Nordin was going through when his brothers were falling in love was another interesting aspect.

The series is over, and all four brothers are better off than when the story started. I love how each man fell into money. Nordin has made his for himself, which is so in character for him. May they all continue to ride into the sunset in their HEAs.
