I’ve spent the last twenty years reinventing myself—shaking off the snotty rich girl facade for law school at Tulane University, only to pivot and obtain a Masters in Social Work, much to my parents' dismay. I settled in New Orleans and embedded myself in local politics fighting for the people with the least representation. That is until my mother’s illness called me home.
Balsam Ridge Tennessee is an oasis tucked into the Great Smokey Mountains. I missed it, and now that my mother is back on her feet I’m ready to forge a new path. With the long-time mayor retiring and my father’s prompting, I decide it is time to put my degree and experience to use for my hometown. Running unopposed, it seems I’ve finally found my purpose until an old nemesis re-emerges and tosses his hat into the arena.
Langford Tuttle is the proverbial prince of the valley. His father and mine have been locking horns for decades, and now it seems that we will be carrying the torch of familial rivalry. If he thinks that his broad shoulders, sexy smile, and devilish charm are enough to defeat me, he has another thing coming.
He better get ready because a fight is coming and I’m ready to spar.
This is Langford Tuttle's book. *Small town, Family Saga, Enemies to lovers.
Amber Kelly is a romance author that calls North Carolina home. She has been an avid reader from a young age and you could always find her with her nose in a book completely enthralled in an adventure. With the support of her husband and family, in 2018, she decided to finally give a voice to the stories in her head and her debut novel, Both of Me was born. Amber Kelly is one of my favorite small town romance authors. I love this Balsam Ridge series! This is the fourth book and follows the oldest Tuttle boy, Langford. Langford is a single dad and has decided to run for mayor against Isley Paysour. Isley and Langford's family have had a long standing rivalry, and they have a bit of an enemies to lovers vibe which I love.
Isley is smart, savvy, and a caretaker at heart. She wants what's best for the town, and so does Langford. They realize they have more in common than the differences they share. I loved seeing their banter and watching them fall for one another. And Langford's son, Tuck was the most adorable. The storyline with Isley's dad was so well done and overall this book was great. I'm looking forward to the last 2 books in this series, but I have to admit- I'll be sad when it's over.
When Isley left her hometown to attend college it also allowed her to become a better version of herself and not the entitled teenager she used to use. In order to be there for her mother, she has recently returned and believes the best way for her to help the town and the townspeople is by running for mayor.
Langley’s family and Isley’s family have been adversaries for years and the history that he and Isley share isn’t much better. He believes that he would be a much better option than Isley for the town but he never expected to develop feelings for the opposition.
I really enjoyed seeing the relationship between Isley and Langley unfold as they are very different from when they used to know each other. This is a heartwarming story about love and family as despite the rivalry they proved that what was most important was each other.
I know when I pick up an Amber Kelly book that I won't be disappointed. This book made me laugh, there was spice, and Langford gave off some vibes that he likes to be dominant in the bedroom. I'm hoping 2023 will bring Weston and Morris's stories. I was given an ARC of this book for an honest review.
I was so looking forward to Life After Duty and being back in Balsam Ridge, Tennessee, and was not disappointed. I adore Amber Kelly’s writing style and always feel I am right on the street with the nosy neighbors when I read her books.
The series features six Tuttle brothers and in this edition, it’s Langford’s turn to fall. He’s a sexy single dad and a business developer and owner in town. I loved how he and Isley, our heroine, knew each other in high school, and the reason why she held a grudge for so long. So funny and relatable.
These two were truly a perfect match. It was a bit Romeo and Juliet as their families had some uncomfortable history, but their connection was explosive. There was no way they weren’t getting together after their few run-ins as adults. Bring on the steam!
Isley moved away from home to attend college earning her Master’s in Social Work, and returned when her mother became ill. Langford never left and the two were both running for mayor in this small town and you could just feel their tension. I thought the author did a fabulous job with their campaigning, and I particularly liked both their campaign speeches. I know others may be in it for the steam, but I love delving into what makes people tick and their real life jobs.
Even though they were on opposing sides I swooned with how respectful he was and wanted to hear her opinions, and how he helped her when her family was in crisis. He could have taken advantage of the situation, but just kept loving on her. I loved how she would blush and just gave into her feelings, trusting Langford completely.
I loved her character growth and how she realized she wanted to not be the same girl from high school. I felt empathy for her mom and how she must have been lonely and how she devoted her life to being a mom, and how Isley didn’t hesitate to help them when needed. This book is just a roller coaster ride of emotions; my only wish is that is was longer! I loved his son Tucker, his parents and brothers, and her girlfriend squad, and can’t wait for more!
I enjoyed this book but not as much as the others before it in the series. I really wish there was more substance at the end. I feel like it was kind of a real quick ending to just end the book without much of an actual closure ending.
Isley and Langford! Enemies to lovers - but why were they ever enemies in the first place? It’s a long story.
Isley left Balsam Ridge for school, and stayed away until there was a need to come back and help her parents. Langford stayed though. He’s been married, has a child, and has huge plans to help make the town a tourist destination. These two end up running for the position of Mayor, head to head, but sparks start to fly the more they get to know of one another.
Isley finds herself being friends with everyone who’s already married to, or will become married to, a Tuttle boy. She has times where she ends up being more and more affiliated with Langford’s mother as well, so how will that fare? Isley also has the matter of looking after her parents, more so than she knew she’d need to when she moved home. How does that play into everything?
Langford has no clue why Isley seems to hate him, and he can’t seem to take his eyes off of her any time she’s near. He knows a good woman, and a good woman’s heart for that matter. So how could he possibly convince her that they might be a good match? Isley’s so bent on their past that maybe she just needs a small glimpse into a better future?
These two are incredible together. All the characters of Balsam Ridge just warm me like no other.
She is running for mayor of her hometown. He is a grumpy, single dad who does not like the idea of her being mayor so he runs as her opposition. Their families hate each other but somehow no one can figure out why.
Isley Paysour is not proud of the girl she was in High School. Leaving home and finding her own career in local government became an interest for her. She returned to her home town several years ago to help her sick mom. Time and maturity has changed her for the better. Isley has decided to run for mayor and is shocked when the guy she hated in High School has decided to run against her.
Langford Tuttle is the oldest of the Tuttle brothers. He is busy raising his son, running a ski lodge, and starting a new project that is going to bring more positive tourism to their town. With the help of his family, he decides to run for mayor so Isley Paysour won't get her way.
Langford and Isley circle each other for the first couple weeks of the election but their mutual friends force them to realize they don't actually hate each other. Without a good reason to stop, they begin dating enjoy that give and take between them. As the election draws near and more hatchets are buried between feuding lines they realize they are on the same page.
Dual POV, frenemies to lovers, spicy
I don't understand the title. Is the "duty" the position of the mayor? Langford is not a politician but he does have a positive impact on his community. His grumpy reputation is barely true and he is well loved by friends and family. He supposedly hates Isleys brothers but that story line never gets addressed. Isley is a recovering mean girl who has potential to be petty. But the group of young women in this community embraces her and won't let her be cold and anti social. I didn't really pick up on chemistry or attraction between Langford and Isley to be honest. She isn't interested in him and he sees her as a challenge. I think my biggest issue with this series as a whole is the sudden and completely casual way all these couples begin a physical relationship. This is the fourth book I've read so far and all four couples just start sleeping together without serious conversation or considering the consequences. It gives the reader the impression these relationships are more based on physical connection and low on emotional intimacy. But if you don't take that side of things too seriously, these are adults mostly in their 30's who know what they want in a partner and go after it. If you don't mind insta-love with quick wedding plans and low emotional connection you will enjoy this series. Nice HEA and Epilogue.

ARC REVIEW📕- Love After Duty, by @authoramberkelly
🌲🔅Rate-⭐⭐⭐⭐.90/5 🌲🔅Spice-🌶🌶🌶🌶.55/5
🌲🔅Quote-“Isley Paysour makes me want it all—flirty foreplay and hot, sweaty s*x. I must have lost my damn mind.” ✨“I don’t need a man to validate me, but sometimes, it’d be nice to come home and curl up in a pair of strong arms and be assured that everything is going to be okay.”
🌲🔅Review- This book was absolutely adorable and so beautiful. 🥰 - I love the way Amber Kelly gracefully show her characters so mature while at the same time being youthful and acceptable. I am honestly so glad that she never let's down the elegance in the writing style and storyline of her books rather than give way to some immature and unnecessary drama. 🙌🏻 - Coming to the book, I love Langford and Isley's story + there cute bantering for the mayor position and in general. I also loved all the several small messages in this book along with all its funny moments😂 Like where in a drunk Isley is on a mission to give Langford ‘Hell’. The chemistry between the couple is damn hot❤🔥 - Langford is Caring, Hot, brute, rugged, s*x on legs also is a single dad who is divorced. Yes, he is divorced and No there is no other women or some bitchy ex-wife drama *thankful sight*😘. Isley is beauty with brains and I love her confident, leading personality❣️ - I was honesty so excited to see who will win the position of the Mayor along with the way they present themselves in front of the Town, and way pretty pleased with its results. One of the best was the way Langford helps Isley with her family problems being a silent support for her. 🥺💕 The ending was just damn perfect and satisfying. - For all those who love a good comforting rivals to lovers, small town adult romance..
Love After Duty is a small-town romance that sees two people vying for the position of Mayor of Balsam Ridge. When Ms. Kelly introduces us to new characters, we can count on them to be relatable, likeable and definitely have chemistry that is off the charts. Her way of writing wants you to walk into the book and be part of the town as well as part of the circle of friends that Langford and Isley are a part of. Ms. Kelly writes a terrific story that gives us Langford and Isley, two people who both want to be mayor however, there is history that only one person remembers, Isley. Will what happened between the two of them all those years ago still invade Isley's thoughts and feelings? Langford and Isley seem to bring out the competitive side of one another which also brings out the best in one another. As time goes by their competitiveness leads to the sexual tension that is hot. Will they cross that imaginary line of sleeping with the enemy? Can Isley deal with campaigning for mayor while at the same time having to deal with some very troubling news about her father? When Langford steps up and helps her when there is a crisis, it proves that he is a man that is easy to love. His relationship with his family and his teen son shows us that he is definitely a man that has values and integrity.
I love the relationship between Langford and Isley. Their storyline was so enjoyable that I could not put it down. I recommend adding this book to your TBR list.
I loved Langston and Isley. two strong characters coming together. YES!
This is the 4th book in the Balsam Ridge series, centering on Langford Tuttle, oldest Tuttle brother and dad to 13 year old Tucker and Isley Paysour, former high school enemy of Langford, who has now returned to Balsam Ridge at her father’s urging to run for mayor. She figures it will be easy as she’s running unopposed. Until she finds out she isn’t. Apparently Langford Tuttle has thrown his hat in the ring. Let the competition begin!
Of course competition leads to animosity and…..attraction! Isley and Langford (very reluctantly) fall hard for each other. It’s great steamy fun because WOW. Hot is an understatement!
All of the Tuttle brothers are back and the girl squad of best friends envelopes Isley into their fold, even though she’s actually the enemy! Even Sarabeth Tuttle pulls Isley in. The BFF banter and wine nights are fabulous fun. I love these best friends who are never afraid to speak their minds and include whomever they want into their friendship circle - this time they include Isley.
Isley is a strong, independent woman with a strong bond with her ailing father and when she reluctantly confides in Langford about her father’s failing health and needs his help, he’s right there. And the emotional scene between Langford and Isley’s dad is precious.
This is the fourth book in the Balsam Ridge series, which I am loving. Langford and Isley story takes place in this book when the major of BR decides to retire he needs to hand over to someone who will have the best interests of the town at heart. Isley comes from BR but moved away and worked in a major's office elsewhere. When she comes back to comes up against Langford one of the Tuttle brothers who is up against the major ship too. Only they start off as enemies since he wouldn't kiss her in a game of spin the bottle when they were much younger, even though he actually did want to but Isley didn't know that point. This is a cute and cozy enemies to lovers sweet romance with spice that doesn't overtake the plot and is well positioned within this romance. The author also writes empathetically about Alzheimer's and how it can affect not just the person but those who love them. When Isley's father is diagnosed she and her mother have to learn to adapt. Of course Langford is on hand to help Isley go through the pain and suffering she experiences. Yet another comforting and sweet book by this very talented author. There isn't anything not to like about this book. If you love a country romance with some spice and a heartwarming storyline then this is a must read. Kerry Kennedy Author
Isley and Langford were another great addition to the Balsam Ridge series. My heart broke for Isley in the prologue and I can totally understand why she hated Langford for years. Amber is so good at writing small town romances. You can't help but fall in love with the town and the cast of characters she creates. It was great being back with the Tuttle's and the rest of their clan. The girls are hysterical and the type of girl gang you want to be a part of.
I loved Isley & Langford's banter and how they kept each other on their toes in their mayoral campaigns. They pushed each other to do better, which is exactly what Isley needed. What started out as enemies to lovers quickly dissipated and what was left was a deep connection between the two of them that neither of them could fight. While their story also touched on some sadder issues, the way Isley handled them was with grace and care. I loved when Isley's father called Langford over for "the talk." I definitely got a little teary eyed. Their love was the key to the ending the long standing feud between their families.
All in all I devoured this book in one sitting because I just adore this family and can't get enough of them. I am so ready for the next Tuttle brother to get their story!
Langford and Isley have a history and it’s not pretty. Their families hate each other. Growing up they had their fair share of problems. After years of being away Isley returns and then runs for mayor. Soon Langford throws his name in the ring. Then the sparks begin to fly. As they navigate their feelings as well as running against each other they learn what really matters.
This is a beautiful story about family and community. Isley and Langston each want the best for their town. They want to see it flourish and grow. Each have different ideas on how to make that happen but they are determined to see it become a success.
I love Isley. She wasn’t afraid to admit that she was a mean girl in high school. She also was not a door mat. She knew she had grown and changed and was willing to see that other people could too. As she grows closer to Langston she realizes that he too is different and the misunderstand of their youth was just that. I also love that she accepted Langston’s son. Her interactions with him were great.
This was a fun enemies to lover romance. It has all the great small town feels with some headache. This book has very little angst but a whole lot of passion. Grab the other books in the series
This is Langford's story. He's the oldest of 6 brothers and a single dad to his son Tucker. He's also a life long Balsam Ridge occupant. He's currently working on building a huge resort property on their mountain with over 175 rooms and suites along with ski runs. He's working on increasing the money coming into the community.
Isley has had it out for Langford since she was 14. Both Isley's family and Langford's family have been at odds for over 30 years. Isley came home 2 years ago to help her mom as she's been dealing with breast cancer. Now the mayor of their town is retiring so she decides to run as the next mayor.
Langford hates this news, and his family tricks him into running too. But when they keep running into each other, Langford has a hard time keeping his eyes from traveling over Isley. She is stunningly beautiful. Even though words keep coming between the two of them, they can't deny the attraction.
Wow! Really intense story. So hard to put down. It's only book 4, and I am going to hate when this series ends. The family and friends interactions have me begging for more. Great job Amber Kelly. Ready for Book 5. Enjoy
Another adorable small town romance story by Amber Kelly. For this one, we are brought back to the cute town of Balsam Ridge and all of the fun characters that reside there!
This story is about Isley and Langford. They have been enemies for as long as they can remember. What started as a small grudge, turned into a full time hate between them. Now that they are grown up and older, they are taking things to a new level. After Isley announces that she is running for mayor, Langford decides that he needs to just to be in competition with her. What you know what they say, all is fair in love and war. And when it comes to these two, the line between hate and love is diminishing by the day.
I really liked the progression of the relationship between them and we got to see both Isley and Langford vulnerable in their feelings. I really enjoyed seeing Isley and Langford's son Tucker forming a relationship as well.
This story was much more than a romance - this was all about family, both blood family and found family.
If you are looking for a quicker small town romance read, this is for you!
*4 stars* I've really been enoying reading this series and it's been a true rollercoaster ride of emotions as the story deals with a lot of things that can happen in real life which makes it that more believable but also relatable. I enjoyed the chemistry between Isley & Langford but I also loved the progress that Isley went throughout the story. A great read and can't wait to see what's next in store.
Isley has returned home after being away for a few years to take care of her mother. With her mother now finally on the mend, she's trying to decide what comes next. When she learns that the Mayor is set to retire, she's ready to take over his position & finds herself the only one who volunteered for the job but that won't be for long as Langford shows up to oppose her. When Langford returned to Balsam Ridge, he never thought to really apply for Mayor but he'll do whatever it takes to make sure Isley doesn't win. But he soon learns that she's no longer the girl from high school and starts to see her in a different light and when tragedy strikes, their relationship will be taken to another level. Will they find their way?...
I received a complimentary kindle version of this book and am voluntarily leaving my review.
This was a really fun story between Isley and Langford Tuttle. If you are new to this series, this book easily stands alone.
This is very much a romance between two opponents vying to be Mayor of their small town of Balsam Ridge. In addition, Langford is a single dad to an adorable son who was so much fun in this book.
While this book was a lot of fun it also had some serious moments. Some of the issues involved in this book was Cancer as Isley's mom has been fighting it. In addition, she also has to deal with memory issues/Alzheimer/Dementia.
Langford and Isley grew up together but their family's kind of hated each other. Isley is very involved in the community and decides she wants to help her town grow and she is the perfect person to make that happen if she becomes Mayor. Langford is building a fantastic hotel/resort and wants to help that happen by becoming mayor as, so he throws his hat in the ring. That is when things get really fun from town meetings to debates, these two were so much fun.
Love After Duty is the fourth installment of author Amber Kelly's "Balsam Ridge" series and this one doesn't disappoint. Kelly gives her readers a wonderful small town, enemies to lovers romance with a nod to Romeo and Juliet. This author's current series follows the six Tuttle brothers and it's Langford's turn in the spotlight.
Isley Paysour left Balsam Ridge after high school to find a new and better version of herself. She stayed away until her mother became ill. No longer the entitled teenager she once was, Isley is back in town to help not only her family through her mother's illness but also to help the town. Langford, never left and has big plans to help bring monetary gain and more tourism to Balsam Ridge. These two adversaries both end up running for mayor. What they don't expect is to end up falling for the opposition.
I love Amber Kelly's stories and they never let me down. The story between Langford and Isley is my new favorite. Their story heartwarming, full of steam and laughs, plus a sexy single dad with a dominant side and who knows how to use it. I can't wait to see what Kelly has instore for Weston Tuttle's story in Hope After Loss.
Isley cannot stand Langford Tuttle. She finds out he enters the mayoral race going against her, and she believes it’s out of spite.
Isley had left home and worked in local politics while she was gone. She came back home to take care of her momma, but now that her momma’s doing better she decides she wants to stay. Her small town is in need of a new mayor and she has the background to know how to get them the help they need.
Langford finds out that Isley is running for mayor and decided he better step in because she is always against his ideas and trying to make his life hell. She has since she was a kid - probably because of their family feud.
Once they are in each other’s company and hear the difference they each want to make in their hometown, how will they stay away from each other? What happened to start the family feud? What’s going on with Isley’s dad?
This was a good one, but definitely not my favorite of the series. I am looking forward to Weston and Anna next 😍
Character I want to smack…. Hmmmm 🤨 I don’t think anyone in this book, though the teenage Isley sounds extremely annoying.
I loved being back in Balsam Ridge with Love After Duty, Langford and Isley's story. And do they put another level in enemies to lovers. First their parents are enemies and then they are highschool enemies. After years away Isley is back to take care of her parents and is running for major of Balsam Ridge. Langford is the opposing candidate. And that's where things get interesting. Because they get to know each other anew and Isley is tangled up and befriended by the girl gang . Soon they are up each others lives and more importantly they care about each other. Isley get to know Tucker, Langford's son . And they help her with a family emergency. They out grow their family drama and develop quite a relationship. There where a lot of swoon worthy moments with Langford, а laugh out situations with the girl gang and a heartwarming family moments. Isley was so smart, brave and loving with a dash of sass and a perfect match for Langford. Loved being back in Balsam Ridge and with those wonderful characters. Amber Kelly added another wonderful place to my fictional small town romance map .
Having read the three previous installments in this series I was so happy that we were getting more! As soon as I found out about this fourth book I've been looking forward to it ever since. I picked it up and got right back into the Balsam Ridge world! I enjoyed it so very much!
Isley and Langford's journey captured my attention right from the get go! Isley and Langford have been enemies since they were kids. Isley is determined to become mayor when surprisingly Langford announces he wants the position as well. As these two go head to head, who will win? Their hate or their love?
I got right into Isley and Langford's story right from the get go. I really liked how these two had been in each other's lives since they were younger and the way they got under each other's skin. I so enjoyed getting to see Isley and Langford both vie for the mayor position, their banter, and getting to see them tackle their feelings. I loved the sparks that ignited between them as well!
I adored Isley's care for her mother and Langford's for Tucker, both got me in the heart. It was so awesome for this book loving heart of mine to be back in Balsam Ridge, Tennessee! I can always picture it and the characters so clearly! So happy to reunite with characters as well!
With Love After Duty, Ms.Kelly has created such a good read that kept me turning the pages and feeling every bit! If you haven't checked this series out, you so should this year! I can't wait to dive back into it with the fifth installment, Hope After Loss! 💛
*I volunteered to read and review a copy of this book from Wordsmith Publicity / the author*
This was a really good small town enemies to lovers romance. Isley and Langford were like oil and water in the beginning. She was still harboring some rage towards him from when they were really young. Isley is running for Mayor of Balsam Ridge…unopposed. Or so she thought. She’s furious when she finds out Langford is running against her.
Langford doesn’t have a clue as to why Isley hates him so much but he knows he’s made things worse since he’s running for Mayor as well. But there is just something about her and he can’t stop thinking about her. Slowly but surely, Langford starts wearing Isley down and their passion ignites.
Isley is worried about sleeping with the enemy and how this looks for her campaign. But she can’t seem to let go of Langford.
I really enjoyed the push and pull of these two. I will say the situation with Isley’s father hit very close to home for me and brought tears to my eyes multiple times. I’m enjoying this series and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
Love After Duty is the 4th book in the Balsam Ridge Series but can totally be read as a standalone. This story was a great small town, single dad, family saga with the enemies to lovers twist. I loved Langford and Isleys competitive dynamic, the sassiness, the push and pull and the chemistry didn’t disappoint. Langsford has such a rough exterior, but he’s so swoonworthy. I loved the Tuttle family dynamic, and how the ladies befriend Isley. They are all so supportive even though she’s battling her enemy Langsford Tuttle. As the story progresses we see both a growth in character from Langford and Isley which I loved. And, towards the end of the book I was tearing up with Isleys family story, the sacrifices that she had made, and continued to make for those that she loved. It was sassy, spicy, angsty at times, but with a heart warming ending that had my emotions all in a knot. Another great book by Amber Kelly
I voluntarily reviewed a complementary copy of this book
I absolutely loved this book. I will start by saying that you should grab a box of tissue for this book. It may have the majority of the book be funny and witty full of fun banter between Isley & Langford but there is some very emotional heartbreaking matter discussed. What Isley and her family is dealing with is just utterly heartbreaking. To me this book was very close to home fir we are dealing with Alzheimer in our family and it is a heartbreaking devastating situation. You are loosing your loved one slowly and daily. You suffer right along with them it’s painful and scary and I loved that the author let them fix things their way before it got too bad or too advanced. So many people v don’t get that. Ok enough of that let’s not go there cause it’s dark and painful. Back to the story if wax fun and I loved it so much I didn’t want it to end. I want more of the Tuttle bothers and I definitely want a book for Anna and for Brandee.
Well if that is you- and you're reading this review right now, you need to go to the previous reviews and read this whole series and then devour Langford Tuttle the way he deserves to be devoured.
Langford is a single dad, he is the big brother that everyone looks to for guidance. He is also running for mayor when he finds out a girl from high school is coming to take over and that just can't happen. He will do whatever it takes to keep Isley away from Balsam Ridge where she can mess up his dreams and his ski resort....
When Isley comes home, she expects to come back to a town where she will have to win everyone over but, she is welcomed with open arms from the girls she was so mean and hateful to in high school and she doesn't understand why. What has changed.. something she knows hasn't changed is the hate she has for Langford, and it never will. No matter how amazing, swooney, or sweet he is. She will not fall for his charm like everyone else in this town.
OHHHH BUT SHE DOES.. AND ITS FREAKING GLORIOUS.
*this book is really hard to read if you have older parents. Isleys dad is is apart of the reason she comes home and his health is declining.**
4 star Review of Love After Duty (Balsam Ridge #4) by Amber Kelly
Amber Kelly is a relatively new author to me but what I have read I enjoyed. Love After Duty was an entertaining read that ticked a number of boxes for me. The characters were engaging and easy to like and I was quickly drawn into the story that Ms.Kelly wove. I love stories set is small towns and Balsam Ridge sounds like a wonderful place to visit. This is enemies to lovers Langford and Isley’s story. I enjoyed the push and pull dynamic of their relationship as they battled for the position of town mayor. What neither of them expected was the attraction that sizzled between them, not to mention the witty banter. I also loved the relationship that Isley formed with Langford’s son Tucker. I also enjoyed the friendships that Isley made in her return to her home town.
This is the fourth book in this incredible series, and this is Isley and Langford’s story. Islay is running for mayor of Balsam Ridge, and should be a sure thing, until Langford, who is a single dad to a wonderful son, decides that he is going to run against her. Langford is Isley’s nemesis since childhood, and their families have been feuding for years. These two know how to push each other’s buttons to bring out the best in each other. This is a beautifully written enemies / lovers, small town romance, which is an emotional roller coaster, with family, friendships, undeniable chemistry, witty banter, romance, realistic and engaging characters, humor, and love, which leads to an entertaining, sweet, and steamy addictive page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
You'd think with the whole family rivalry thing, this would be a story and characters laden with drama, but surprisingly there wasn't much to speak of--and that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Even a reader like me who enjoys a fair bit of angst in her books looks forward to a story that is mostly lighthearted with a dash of angst. Both main characters brought with them interesting back stories, and the sexual tension between them was on-point. I enjoyed their banter, and seeing everything develop between Isley and Langford made for some great reading. Having the rest of the Tuttles around added to the entertainment factor; on the other hand, Isley's parents and their part in the story was heartrending, but not depressingly so. Love After Duty was a wonderfully written addition to the Balsam Ridge, which is why giving it 4.5 stars out of five was a no-brainer.
I love the Balsam Ridge series by this author so I knew I wouldn’t be disappointed by this book. The story follows Langford who is one of the Tuttle Brothers and Isley, they both knew each other in high school but family fued had caused a grudge between the families.
I loved the relationship between Langford and Isley as it had so much sexual tension which soon turned into an amazing steamy romance! They are just made for each other and it was so lovely to read about, just like any of the romances with the Tuttle Brothers.
I loved every character in this book but Tucker (Langfords son) became my absolute favourite as he was such a character, I’m hoping to get more from Langford, Tucker and Isley but I can’t wait for the next book in the series
