Aside from the new information about the organization, we got a fantastic ending for a specific character and their last words were quite memorable
*And the art has been really good these past few volumes especially the design of a certain northman.

The plot twists in this story literally made me say “what the fuck is going on?” several times. I don’t know how they’re gonna solve this thing ‘cause on one hand we got some “new Claymores” that are basically brainless assets designed specifically to hunt and eat the Awakened ones just like Isley. Even if they get hurt, they get up again and cannot be killed until their target is finished.

Tbh, I didn’t like the way Isley died. I liked him from his very first appearance and I absolutely believe he was powerful enough to make the world his but anyway, at least I’m glad he put up a fight against those horrible new Claymores.

Before this happened, Helen and Deneve helped a group of claymores from an Awakened one and they kinda revealed themselves against Miria’s orders. But welp, the surviving comrade followed them and proved us wrong: though she may work for the organization, she’s aware not everything is right. A lot changed in the past 7 years.

Riful, on the other hand, forced Renee to “see inside” Raphaela and Luciela mixed together and she found out that this new creature is not to be messed with and I’m thinking shit’s gonna turn into hell once someone does awaken them.

Overall, there was a lot of info dump in this volume but it was one of the best in the series! I cannot wait to read the next one!

More context is always good.

World: Amazing art. Not a lot of battle this time but the quiet stuff is still good. The world building is solid. We get a new type monster and some more context on the organization and the truth.

Story: Two stories here with two groups. Each are interesting in their own way and builds the story up. The Clare one was about meeting old friends and getting some context while the Deneve story as about the new pieces. Both were good and really loves the chains forward.

Characters: Single and needed character work. Not a lot of depth but it's still welcome. The history we get from 7 years ago is interesting and character based so that's good.

A good quiet arc that moves the story and world forward.

Onward to the next book!

Having a volume focused more on Helen and Deneve rather than Clare was a really cool change of pace. I like the new Number 8, Dietrich. And the reveal about Rubel was also VERY cool.

Claymore is a manga about Yoma who pretend to be human in order to kill and eat the humans. The Claymore are the hybrid of the two stronger faster but still human with the ability to slay the Yoma which they do for a price. They travel from village to village slaying Yoma with nothing but the sword on their back using the Yoma abilities but slowly turning into a monster that they hunt. When the time comes a Claymore will send a black card to another claymore to be slain before the Yoma takes over and so they die as a human.

In the 16th installment things are getting more intense. We are learning more and more about the organization as well as what’s really going on with the yoma and abyssal running around. They have split into groups Clare has gone to hunter for Raki with two others. Helen and Deneve have gone to check on their home villages but the more south they go the more they learn. They encounter some claymores fighting an awakened being and when it looks like they won’t make it they dive in to help. However one of the claymores isn’t knocked out and knows who they are but instead of telling the organization she tags along with the girls. It’s while heading more south that they find the abyssal Isley hiding in as a human in a village. Will they make it out? What is hunting the abyssal?

I like Clare she’s a sword carrying slayer who isn’t afraid to die charging in risking her life. She's grown a lot in the last several volumes leading up to the battle in the north. After faking her death along with her fellow claymore's she's returned after seven years to battle the Organization. While she may not be the strongest she's determined and unwilling to give up. She's one of those underdog characters you can't help liking. We've seen a little of Raki but other than knowing he's traveling with Priscilla that's about it.

I’ve seen all of the episodes on Netflix a few years ago actually binge watched them over a long weekend. While it’s been a while I don’t think the anime has gone this far in the series. I don’t remember the girls taking on the organization which is where the story has turned. It’s interesting learning that the organization which has been creating claymores for a long time may not be the good guys after all. I love the concept for the Claymore the hybrids created using parts from the monsters that they have been created to fight against the Yoma that they created. The art is great it gives me just enough to create the story in my head as I read each detailed page. This is only my 2nd manga so I don’t have a lot to base on but I’m super addicted to them. They are perfect for when I have some downtime or when I feel like reading back to back. I already know that the ending is close as I’m about halfway done. I’m anxious to see how it’s all going to play out.

Volume 16 directly continues an arc started in volume 15 and has several major developments that depend heavily on prior events. This is not the place to start reading - go back to the beginning.

The entirety of this volume is devoted to the remaining chapters of The Lamentation of the Earth (parts 2-7). Last volume had a lot of heavy revelations, but Yagi is far from done with the surprises. Clare's conversation with an "old friend" continues and portrays a intriguing tangle of complex loyalties and motivations, while filling Clare in on Riful's machinations. Meanwhile Deneve and Helen encounter a terrifying new weapon of the Organization that made my skin crawl, leading to a dramatic change in the long running power struggle between the Organization and the Creatures of the Abyss.

Absolutely phenomenal stuff, with another fantastic ending hook for the next arc. Highly recommended.

4/5 Well this volume at least finally has more meat on its bones and takes a little longer to get through. We start with a meeting between Clare and her former handler. Who turns out to be not who we thought he was.

The majority of this book though focuses on Helen and Deneve as they help another group of Claymores take down another awakened one. This leads to them exploring a nearby town where surprisingly Isley is hiding. We are also introduced to a new type of creatures created by The Organization called Abyss Feeders whose sole purpose is hunting Creatures of the Abyss.

Helen and Deneve on the cover of Volume 16.

This volume introduces a whole new scheme by the organization to defeat the three abyss dwellers and moves away from the revelation of the last few volumes. While it is still a good series and fast paced, I was hoping for more forward momentum with the world.

This volume is kind of a follow-on from the prior one, with Helen and Deneve going off and learning more about what has happened to their world in the past 7 years since they went missing, and Clare heading off with Cynthia and Yuma to continue looking for Raki. It's good to see Isley again as he was one of the more unique character designs and I think had a lot more to offer than what he got. I'm not sure how I feel about the abyss feeders; they're essentially glorified zombies at this point. I wish there was a bit more to the plot than there is here... kind of running out of patience with it to get moving again.

HOLY SCHEISSE!

Awakened ZOMBIES !!
description

Claymore: The Lamentation of the Earth, Vol. 16 begins with Rubel revealing the Organization's plans involving Riful of the West, Rafaela, and the Number 6, Renée. Rubel is a tricksy little devil and his true intentions are difficult to decipher. Although he reveals that he is a spy against the Organization, I doubt he's playing on the same side as Clare. I rather do enjoy this sneaky bastard's cheekiness.

Meanwhile, Helen and Deneve come across some Claymores engaged in a battle with an Awakened One. When it looks like the Claymores will be wiped out, Helen kamikazes her way into the fight to lend a hand. I just love Helen's spunk. After Helen and Deneve help defeat the monster, they head further south with the Number 8, Dietrich, following in tow. Once Dietrich catches up to them, she warns them not to continue because of a "demonic existence." Paying no heed to her warning, the fabulous duo rushes off to a nearby village when they get a whiff of Isley's yoma energy.

Helen's curiosity finally gets her into trouble when she comes face-to-face with Isley. As the three engage in battle, the ruckus attracts the attention of something evil lurking by. Just as she realizes how terribly outmatched she is and thinks she's about to die, the demons surface, hungry for flesh. Luckily, Dietrich is able to save Helen and Deneve in the nick of time and rushes them to a safe location. Here, she informs them of the terror known as the Abyss Feeders, who hunger for Isley's flesh.

Poor, beautiful Isley. What a terrible way to die. Even though he is technically a "bad guy" I really like him and appreciated how he looked after Raki and Priscilla. Of all the Abyssal Ones to die, couldn't have been Riful? I'd much rather the annoying brat kick the bucket than the regal Isley. So sad.

Isley's death is heartbreaking.

This is an excellent volume, especially with the focus on my favorite twosome, Helen and Deneve. They look fantastic on the cover. The cliffhanger ending with the Organization sending Alica and Beth to the West makes me very excited of what's to come. The Organization is so immoral and twisted. It makes for great drama. I do look forward to the day Clare and her companions punish the Organization for all their wrongdoings.

The enemy of my enemy is not my friend; it is my enemy -or, at least, that's what this volume felt like. So many factions, so many interests.

I'm starting to feel sorry for awakened ones and creatures of the abyss, and wondering how much more all of this will be escalating. It's quite exciting.

Today's post is on Claymore volume 16: The Lamentation of the Earth by Norihiro Yagi. It is the sixteenth the long running Claymore series, you need to have read the first fifteen volumes to understand the story. It is 189 pages long and is published by Shonen Jump Advanced. The cover has Helen and Deneve of it. The intended reader is someone who likes dark plots, high action, and strong female characters. There is mild foul language, no sexuality, and lots of violence in this book. The story is told from third person close of the main character. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the book- After Miria's incredible revelations about the origins of the Yoma, the seven warriors split up to settle their affairs and say their goodbyes in preparation for the final battle against the Organization. Helen and Deneve fall in with a spirited young warrior of the current generation and soon find themselves confronting the Organization's latest, most terrible weapons.

Review- We get odd answers to questions from the beginning of the series. The man in black who was Clare's contact with the Organization is really a spy from the mainland and he tells her everything. From the war to the reason for Claymores but Clare and company are not the ones at get the big story in this volume, it is Deneve and Helen. They pick up another Claymore as they are traveling to their hometowns. She tries to tell them that there are only demons that way but Deneve and Helen want to finish their business. As they travel south they run into Isley and a fight ensues but the demons come. The demons are the newest weapons by the Organization and they are horrifying. They are called Abyss Feeders and they exist only to eat Awakened Ones. The fight is brutal and not quick but the plot revelations are pretty chilling. I am so curious about where we are going to go from here.

I give this volume a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my money.

Okay, we've gotten the big plot reveal about how the island is made for experiments and all that. Now we're seeing MORE experiments, like yeah now that we know all these yoma and stuff and weird science shenanigans let's open the floodgates and make MORE weird part-yoma creatures. They're an extension of what we've seen before, it makes sense, but I'd like Clare and friends to actually have a direction. We're seeing the creatures of the abyss sort of do things, we're seeing the organization make whatever moves they make (that they didn't make until now for some reason, idk, I guess it literally just took them a while to decide to do it), and our protagonists are... maybe going one way or the other? We're in the catch-up phase after the time skip and I wonder how long we're going to be sitting around getting exposition.

Finally saw Isley after the seven-year time skip, as little as it was. The Organization has developed new soldiers from the remains of the Awakened Beings - Abyss Eaters, nasty motherfuckers who level towns and eath Abyssal Ones.
We may have acquired a new ally, from the New Generation. She's kind of sus, maybe she has some insight that made her switch sides so quickly. Or she's just a spy from the Organization?
Speaking of spies. Rubel is a spy that has infiltrated the Organization and is trying to let it eat itself from the inside. I guess he is on the Dragon side, or whoever the opposing party supposedly is.
The information Miria had was given to her by Rubel, so it's sketchy.
