This is actually a really funny manga. Full of incest, so if you don't like that, then I suggest you not read it. However, with the spoiler earlier on you'll find it's not so bad after. I found it really interesting and very much like Freaky Friday with the body swapping. I can't wait to see what happens next.
I liked this a lot more than I expected to, although I have enjoyed Kurumatani's smuttier works in the past. It's not for the incest-leery reader, but if you can suspend your sensibilities, it's an amusing and kind of romantic book. Full review will (eventually) appear on the Anime News Network.
The idea was unique to say the least, especially with the way they approached such a the taboo topic. But there were many parts of the story that were annoying and overall this volume couldn’t keep my interest.
I enjoyed reading this, as it was a slightly darker take on the girl/boy switch bodies genre. But it also made me a little uneasy with its assumptions about gender roles/ability.
if you saw i read this… no you didn’t. very cute manga story is enjoyable. heavy on the incest though and morally questionable. definitely one you put face down when buying at barnes and noble.
I was intrigued when I first heard of this book, then wary, then intrigued again. I wasn’t too sure what to expect—the incest made me wary, and the art looked iffy, but it sounded interesting enough. And now I’m glad I picked it up.
I don’t think I fully understood what the description meant until I started the book, because I was surprised by what I found.
Youta is loud and exaggerates and dotes on his twin sister. Hikaru is quiet and a loner and everyone thinks she’s creepy and never knows what she wants. Youta understands her perfectly, which is why they’re so close.
And then they switch bodies, and it turns out they’re not even related by blood. Youta freaks out, because he doesn’t know how to handle being in his sisters body, and he’s so sensitive and inexperienced that he doesn’t want to even change clothes. Hikaru, on the other hand, has openly confessed to him that she’s in love with him, and is perfectly happy to be in his body.
I think since their roles are reversed—with the sister being the one hitting on her brother—that I didn’t mind the scenario so much. Plus, they aren’t related by blood.
I also think it’s funny that with their stereotypical roles reversed—with the brother exaggerated and embarrassed and the sister quiet and the instigator—that when they switch bodies, they’re in the sex normally put with those roles. But you never forget that they’re in the wrong body—it’s mentioned a lot without being pushy or overdone. I appreciated that. It's almost a parody of the normal.
The artwork is pretty, and the characters are rather well done, with some surprises thrown in. The humor is good, and the exaggeration isn't over the top. There is a color page at the front, and it is very pretty. Hikaru is in love and emotional, and I felt for her a few times. Youta just plain doesn’t know what to do.
At this point, I’m really glad that I picked this volume up, and am looking forward to reading more.
Tycker det känns något krystat. Samtidigt är jag lite sugen på att skaffa volym två ändå. Men att läsa denna mangan gav mig ingen särskild glädje mer än att den var lättläst, just för att det är en manga.
Ani-imo is very much for a specific type of manga reader. It is a taboo romance with body-swapping antics between a twin brother and sister, who turn out to be not related by blood at all of course. Under these new circumstances, the sister Hikaru (now in a male body) feels free to express her long repressed feelings for the brother who has always doted on her. The more home-maker type Youta however finds himself in a very uncomfortable situation, and is torn between concern for his sister and doubt about his own feelings. One thing that the creator does thankfully discuss that many other body-swapping stories don't, is the problems that are inherent in such circumstances, namely the implicit lack of knowledge that one sex has about the body and activities of the other. Males probably would have some difficulty putting on certain women's clothes at first, and what would a female know about dealing with male urges or simple things like bathroom etiquette. On Youta's part it is played for awkward laughs, but with Hikaru it is treated a bit more seriously to show that it would be a genuine concern. While many readers will find the idea a bit disturbing, the writing and art itself is actually pretty decent, so for the niche group that does like this kind of story, it is a good series to pick up. It has its funny moments, some emotional scenes, and it adds some interesting food for thought to the body-swapping trope.
I was shocked by how good this story was. It is a bit of an odd one so realize as you're going in that it is an acquired taste. Overall the story flows well and the art is good (though I like other Manga a bit better in the art department). The sister is extremely selfish but we see glimmers of kindness in her character which is making me excited about Vol.2 because I'd like to see why it is that she so desperately wants to keep things the way they are. The brother is high strung to say the least and his desire to be "good" often makes him oblivious to things around him. Overall it seems like it's going to be a good coming of age and learning to be diverse in your personality kinda story. Just remember that the "romance" (which is one sided) is odd to say the least. I don't think the story will head in any truly taboo areas, its not the vibe I got from it but who knows with Manga sometimes.
This is one of the most bazaar manga books I have read, I wanted to stop reading it but I couldn't seem to put it down, the taboo subject made it extremely interesting! The characters weren't anything special and the drawings were definitely not my favorite but it was an odd quick read which I am always a fan of :)
This wasn't bad, I just didn't love it. There were some really good moments here and there that were pretty funny, but for me some of it just fell a little flat. And certain scenes were extremely uncomfortable.
