I'm continuing my quest to learn about my new home state. I read Randolph Campbell's Gone to Texas to get an overview of all-Texas history, and now I want to learn something about my city, Dallas. Shining Star of Dallas is a photography book, not a history book. But it was fun to read through it and start making a list of places I want to see on weekend explorations of the city. The text is as boastful as a Chamber of Commerce brochure, but that's what I'm enjoying about Texas: the fact that Texans just love being Texan. Sometimes it's corny, but mostly I find it refreshing and enjoyable. It's a nice state to settle down in, and Donovan and Brown's book is a nice photo introduction to Dallas.
