Bahama Breeze

He rented a sailboat in the islands because all those years ago she had stirred him in the way no woman ever had. His head told him to run—as did several local Bahamian law officers. His heart and a Category 1 "Bahama breeze" made him stay.

ANNA FORTUNE is a government intelligence analyst who longs for tropical sunsets, early morning beach walks, and a man bold enough to steal her heart.

SONNY CAY is a large, lumbering toilet paper salesman with the haunting memory of a girl he loved and lost in high school.

ANNA knows the location of terrorist cells, and corrupt politicians and that no man can be trusted with her heart or to love until death.

SONNY knows life is for the taking, love for the making and both end all too soon.

So when Anna is ordered to protect a presidential candidate polling in the single digits on a fund-raising junket in the Bahamas, both get a second chance at true love. Now only the hurricane-force winds of a "Bahama Breeze" can cool the white-hot embers of old flames erupting.

If you enjoy the Bahamas, sailing, and silly romance love stories (rather than cookie-cutter, Hallmark romances), Bahama Breeze may put a smile on your face and twang the strings of your heart.

"I can't remember the last time I laughed out loud while reading a book but I did with Bahama Breeze." ~ Ann Tatlock, Christy award-winning author of Promises to Keep plus lots of other books.

"I love Eddie's humorous tone. I would SOOO read anything he writes." - Michelle Medlock Adams, award-winning journalist and author of . . . . well, lots of books.

If you own a boat or wish to own a boat, odds are you have met or will meet someone like Sonny Cay. In fact, he may be docked in the slip next to you. For this 10th anniversary updated edition of Bahama Breeze, we invited someone special to perform at the throw back shell beach party. You may know him as an "over-forty victim of fate" often arriving too late for encores

From Bahama Breeze, by Eddie Jones

"Plus, there's that name, Boz Scaggs. Is that cool, or what? I remember listening to Silk Degrees my sophomore year in college." Joe said. "Met this girl at Myrtle Beach. Short dark hair, dimpled cheeks, baby-doll button eyes. At night, I'd bring my portable eight-track player down to the pool and we'd float around, and listen to Silk Degrees over and over again. I can still hear those 'Harbor Lights' calling me. She was my siren song." "Siren song?" asked Anna. "Greek mythology," Betsy added. "Sirens were dangerous bird-women. Sirens lived on an island surrounded by cliffs and rocks. Legend has it that any sailor who dared to come near her shores was seduced by the Sirens's songs and sultry voices.""That girl broke my heart," said Joe. "And fractured my pelvis." - Joe

Great writing, great story! Eddie Jones is a phenomenal writer. This is one of those rare books that will have you turning the pages unconsciously as the wonderful writing sucks you into the story. Be prepared for a rollercoaster ride before you open to page one.

Bahama Breeze was such a fun change of pace for me. I loved the combination of romance, humor, sailing, and a little danger because the story never takes itself so seriously that it loses its charm. Sonny and Anna are such an unexpected pair, and their personalities made their second chance at love especially entertaining.

What stayed with me most was the humor. There were moments that genuinely made me smile because Sonny’s larger-than-life personality and Anna’s more serious world create such an amusing contrast. At the same time, underneath all the laughter is a surprisingly tender story about two people carrying old memories and wondering whether they can finally take a chance on love.

The Bahamian setting added so much atmosphere that I could almost feel the ocean breeze and picture the sailing adventures. I finished this feeling lighter and thoroughly entertained. A warm, quirky, romantic adventure for anyone who enjoys characters with personality and a love story that doesn’t follow the usual formula.

This book caught me off-guard. I expected it to be some madcap adventure that would make me laugh out loud. Well, it was, and I did. Laughs are premium, these days, so any book that achieves this, I consider a good book. It had a rollicking good plot, too, one that you couldn't figure out where it could go next, even if you tried. But wait a minute. Half the reason it was funny was because it seemed to touch on almost everything that has puzzled or bothered mankind over the last hundred years. Maybe even longer. Mr. Jones even brought up some things most of us don't like to talk about. Let me change that. He brought up everything we don't like to talk about.

Of course, it was all through the eyes of his characters, so I didn't take it personally. They made some big mistakes, but -- hey -- everybody does. Some of them, I could say, "Yep, that's the way the cookie crumbles when you let that happen." Because I either knew someone in real life that it happened to, or had been there, myself. In spite of the wild plot and crazy humor, most of what Sonny and Anna went through with their relationships happen to everybody at one time, or another. So, again, I didn't take it personally.

Nobody was perfect in this book (who is?). But when Sonny Cay took one last shot at life with everything he had… well, as kookie as he was, I had to admire him for that. Did it pay off? Hey, I'm not going to give anything away, here, but I will say this. Not only did I start to wonder if some of these crazy behaviors might actually be humanly possible in real life, I started to hope they were. Why, if I looked at myself a certain way, I might even wonder if…

At which point, I realized I was starting to take it personally. Sheesh, how did Eddie Jones do that? The only way I can explain BAHAMA BREEZE is to say it's sort of like Dr. Strangelove meets Jimmy Buffet (that's for all you "oldies but goodies, out there). And while a lot of it was "tongue in cheek, " reading it was a real experience. I would recommend this book not just to people who like a good laugh, but also to anyone who actually likes to think about things. Or even just assumes they do.

With a colorful cast of characters, Bahama Breeze takes its readers on an excursion through the Caribbean. Imagine Gilligan’s Island meets Get Smart. The book’s subtitle “A Novel of Hijacks & Hijinks on the High Seas” is fitting.

Anna Fortune works intelligence for the U.S. government and Sonny Cay is a washed up toilet paper salesman trying to recapture his past love (Anna) before he dies of cancer. Mix in Anna’s boss, Tommy “Two-Pin,” who always has a snappy comeback, much like Hawkeye Pierce did in the television show MASH, and a President who seems more concerned with the Redskins football team than national security. A terrorist and congressman add to the hijinks on the high seas.

Follow Sonny and Anna through their island adventure while trying to outguess Tommy’s counter-efforts in D.C. to up the ante in Anna’s final government assignment and avert World War III in the process. The story keeps you laughing and shaking your head while wondering if Anna and Sonny’s love will be rekindled. Sonny’s last ditch effort is summed up in his words, “When one had nothing else to lose, dying for love is easy.” Surprise plot twists leave the reader guessing until the end.

Bahama Breeze is a sweet and funny romance that will leave the reader with a smile on their face after the story is over. A refreshing story, it's fairly light and very comical. I enjoyed the turn of events in the book. Anna and Sonny are unique characters that were well thought out and they shined brightly through the pages.

I enjoyed this story, with all its quirky, amusing moments that happened throughout the plot. Anna works for the government, but she is quite forgetful in some aspects, like using a security code when she makes phone calls. It’s simple things such as those that make Anna a well rounded, believable character that readers can relate to on various aspects. Sonny has his moments, too, and the path to the pairs HEA is quite humorous.

Readers, if you enjoy a sweet romance guaranteed to make you laugh, don't miss Bahama Breeze.
